Vadim Lurie: Alexander Kolchenko's Birthday Party
Vadim Lurie: Alexander Kolchenko’s Birthday Party
Vadim F. Lurie Facebook December 2, 2019
I spent my last evening in Kyiv at a concert thrown by anarchist punks in honor of Alexander Kolchenko‘s birthday. I congratulated him, took a few pictures, listened to the music, and socialized.
Thanks to Vadim Lurie for his permission to publish his photos here. Translated by the Russian Reader

Russian court jails Ukrainian filmmaker Sentsov and activist Kolchenko
A Russian military court on Tuesday sentenced the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and the Anarchist activist Alexander Kolchenko to 20 or 10 years in prison due to charges of plotting terror attacks in Crimea. Sentsov, who is best known for his 2011 film Gamer, and Kolchenko were arrested in their homeland, the Ukrainian Crimea peninsula shortly after it was annexed by Russia last year. Both actively supported the protests during Ukraine's Maidan revolution. Human Rights organizations criticized the trial, Amnesty International called the ruling “a blatant injustice after a patently unfair trial marred by credible allegations of torture". Sentsov, who was according Russian authorities involved in two attempted Right Sector arson attacks in the city of Simferopol, said that he was beaten in jail for 24 hours in an attempt to force a confession. Also Kolchenko reported similar things and one of the major witnesses against them, Henadiy Afanasiev, retraced his testimony as given under torture. After the verdict was read out, both men sang the Ukrainian National Anthem.

Contemporary Art Killed My Dog
Contemporary Art Killed My Dog
In terms of a number of issues and events you have opposed Putin’s policies, and now you are at the Moscow Biennale [of Contemporary Art] at the VDNKh, a venue where the order of things is supposed to be questioned [sic]. Do you believe that here, in the current political situation, there can be a place for real criticism that is both anti-Putinist and anti-capitalist?
Yanis Varoufakis,…

On Kolchenko and Sentsov’s Sentences August 26, 2015 www.shiitman.ninja
Alexander Kolchenko and Oleg Sentsov
It is important to realize that the sentences that Kolchenko and Sentsov received are a fiction.
No one actually takes the charges against them seriously.
Even the most loyal Putinists do not take the charges seriously. What terrorism? What does the Right Sector have to do with any of this?

Askold Kurov: The Importance of Solidarity
Askold Kurov: The Importance of Solidarity
Askold Kurov, filmmaker:
I have been shooting the film Release Oleg Sentsovfor over a year, since Oleg was brought to Lefortovo Remand Prison in Moscow, and the first hearings in his case were held. The case is an unbelievable absurdity, an absolutely Kafkaesque story. I hope that the film will draw attention to these terrible events. Unfortunately, however, hopes for a favorable outcome, for…
