so funny when a season premiere (such as season 12 of ER) is supposed to take place effectively the same/next day after the previous episode (such as the season 11 finale of ER) but they have changes as big as:

- One actor (Alex) changing to another (and the kid going from being a 5th Grader to age 12?)

- One doctor (Ray) was in treating his friends who were injured during the party when a balcony collapsed, witnessed at least half a dozen people die, and now is back in work like nothing happened

and most importantly

- Susan’s hair is like two inches shorter

I cannot speak of the modern electronica without mentioning one of the most successful outfits there. Yes, we have to deal with the Chainsmokers. I mean, they became the Nickelback of EDM, though I do think I get why they ended up like this. Check their debut single on the link and notice the latter promised a more adventurous band in a way. Look, I get that the tune might be an intentional attempt to be viral, yet there's a certain cheeky energy present there they forgot to include later on. Mind you, them trying to achieve the similar mischievousness could have backfired immensely, yet something was lost, when they transformed into the emo electronica for those who like the style, though they want to experience the brand without the pesky guitars.

SO! I’m currently watching SIX for the first time: I just finished season one. Initial opinions:

Happy Birthday Scottish actor Alec Newman, born November 27th 1974 in Glasgow.

He may not be a household name, nor has he been in any real blockbuster films, but Alec Newman has quietly made a name for himself with roles in some very good dramas on both sides of the Atlantic.

Alec’s dad, a musician and singer, was since 1973 the lead singer and guitarist in Marmalade, Alec’s brother, John James Newman competed in the 2012 season of The Voice UK. Newman considered a life as a football player before breaking his leg playing for Wokingham Town as a youth.

He started out acting with National Youth Theatre aged 16, before enrolling in The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Straight out of there he began cropping up in stage shows and impressing in guest appearances in TV shows like good old Taggart, of course, Heartbeat, Peak Practice and Dangerfield.

In the year 2000 he landed a leading part in Frank Herbert's Dune a three-part based on the novel of the same name, this got him noticed in the US and guest roles in shows there included, Angel, Star Trek Enterprise and Tru Calling, Flitting between stay at home and in the states he has continued to appear in some of the top shows, at home and abroad. Outlander fans might remember him as Joseph Wemyss in Down the Rabbit hole two years ago.

Alec is probably best known at home for playing Headmaster Michael Byrne in Waterloo Road when the series decanted to Scotland. Judge, John Deed, Spooks, Call the Midwife and Casualty at home, 24 Live Another Day, Victor Frankenstein, Shetland Rogue and The Bastard Executioner among many others, as well as stage roles has kept Newman busy in a career spanning around 25 years. Add to that he has voiced numerous commercials, audio books documentaries and an abundance of Video games, eight just in the past year!

In 2023 Alec starred in four episodes of the ITV crime drama Unforgotten, and in the Scottish detective series Karen Pirie, based on the books by Val McDermid. Alec was also on big screen in The Boys in the Boat directed by Hollywood A lister George Clooney.

Alex has a number of projects in production just now, so expect updates in next years birthday post!

Alec Newman married production co-ordinator Heather Stewart after meeting on the set of Waterloo Road. They married in Ayrshire in 2014 and have a daughter together. Newman is a huge football fan and has indulged a love for the outdoors, twice trekking in the Everest region of Nepal..

Bob Servant - BBC Scotland 2013

Now, I'm a big fan of Scottish actor Brian Cox (b. 1946), but rarely find him that attractive (although his voice alone can send a shiver down my spine). However, much overlooked sitcom, Bob Servant, where he plays the title character, shows him at his potent and handsome best.

Moustache, flat cap, leather jacket. What more could I want? (Well, maybe a pair of tight leather gloves would be nice, add in a cigar or two. Still, it is what it is...)

Famed in the Scottish coastal town of Broughty Ferry, Bob made his money in the infamous "Cheeseburger Wars" and decides to try his hand at local politics.

Full of his own self-importance, loud-mouthed and outrageously rude, unsurprisingly he loses the election.

At times satirical, sometimes painful to watch and always funny, the series should have had a much bigger profile. Maybe it's time to bring Bob back.

For the time being, I'm stuck with re-runs and the occasional clips on YouTube.

And, of course, I can't resist a shot of him in a bow tie.

BTW - honourable mentions to Jonathan Watson (as his downtrodden election agent) and Alex Norton (he of Taggart fame).
