With Ian Kennedy feeling the need to release another book in an area where he feels "qualified" I want to give a gentle reminder that this man has also released a book called "on account of darkness" where he feels the need to as a white man explore the racial inequalities in sport and how he needs to bring to light their achievements. Where just like his book on women's hockey he starts off the very first chapter with multiple paragraphs all about him and about how he is such a bad ally to the black community he grew up by.
The premise of the book itself is amazing and has been done before and better by other authors of color such as
Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete by William C. Rhoden
with other good reads being
Blackness Is a Gift I Can Give Her by R. Renee Hess
Winning Gold: Canada's incredible 2002 Olympic victory in women's hockey by Lorna Schultz Nicholson
Women Who Win: Female Athletes on Being the Best by Lisa Taggart (this one isn't one I have read personally yet but I have heard good things about)

Happy Birthday Kenneth Campbell "Ken" Stott, born on October 19th 1954 in Edinburgh.
One of my favourite actors, as hard-drinking Detective hero of Ian Rankin's popular book he was Inspector John Rebus to me. Ken's Father was Scottish and a teacher, his mum a Sicilian, he went to the famous George Herriots school before going onto to Mountview Theatre School, where the distinguished actor Sir John Mills was president. Fellow Scot Douglas Henshall was also a student of the school. Before leaving Edinburgh Stott had been in a band called Keyhole some of the members of the group would later join the Bay City Rollers.
Ken went on to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company but the pay was poor and he subsidised his earnings by selling double glazing. His first TV role was in Secret Army for the BBC, parts in TV shows throughout his career have included, Taggart (of course) The Singing Detective, London's Burning, Your Cheatin' Heart and Silent Witness. He was insome good films too, The Debt Collector (with Billy Connolly) , Shallow Grave, (with Ewen MacGregor) and Plunkett & Macleane (with Robert Carlyle).
My favourite shows of Ken's have been the brilliant BBC Scotland series, Takin' Over the Asylum in which starred as Double Glazing salesman, but aspiring disc jockey
with David Tennant and Angus Macfadyen,The ITV series The Vice was also a cracking series where he played DI Pat Chappel and The BBC show Messiah, where again he played a cop, DCI Red Metcalfe where he learned sign language for scenes with his screen wife, and Rebus of course, when the show was resurrected in 2006, Stott was a first choice for many as D.I John Rebus, John Hannah had the role in the first incarnation, mainly due to it being made by his own production company.
On film Ken is probably best known for his role as the Dwarf, Balin in The Hobbit trilogy. He is a popular choice for voice work, as narrator for series such as Trawlermen, a documentary following North Sea trawlers, and Send in the Dogs, following the work of Police Officers and their canine partners.
One of my favourite stories about Ken Stott echoes the no nonsense approach of Rebus, on stage during Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge, he halted the play when a group of teenage schoolkids were misbehaving and disturbing the show, switching from his stage American to his native Scots accent he told the teacher responsible for the children to remove them, or the play would not go on.
The house lights were switched on and there was then a 15-minute stand-off as discussions took place with the offending youngsters.
The audience took the side of Stott and even resorted to chanting 'out, out, out' in extraordinary scenes. Eventually the three culprits and an embarrassed teacher was forced to creep away before the play resumed at the Duke of York's Theatre.
Of his recent stuff check out The Dig,, it a decent film and based on a true story of an archaeologist embarks on the historically important excavation of Sutton Hoo in 1938.
I can't see anything happening on Ken's IMDb page, but there is a third series of the Irvine Welsh show Crime in development, so I expect he will reappear in that.

It's Just So, So Good: Radio Dramas and Our Relationship with Evil
I just “came back”—In truth, I’ve just turned off the audio, mid you without unplugging my hearing device—from listening to last Sunday’s Drama on 3, a double bill of Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s short plays: A Conversation at Night and An Incident at Twilight. Both were great productions, but the latter was especially wonderful.
I may be biased because though I like socio-political commentaries, I love philosophical thrillers, mysteries, and police procedurals. I like a crime story that speaks about the world and not only the immediate case at hand (maybe that’s why I like Taggart more than Law & Order). An Incident at Twilight is that!
The premise is not new, I suppose, after thrillers became popular one and half centuries ago: a series of crime novels is allegedly a collection of true stories, and its writer is the murderer(s) in them. But instead of simply revealing whether or not he really is or enacting a cheap, head-scratching plot twist as I at first predicted, it turned into a conversation on our (sometimes, over-) fascination with evil, our hunger for sensation and thrill, and as simple as our leniency toward problematic artists.
Both works discussed this fascination with evil that sustains the same despicable persons we may condemn with our mouths. The first play hovers around it briefly, zooming in on people’s curiosity, even admiration, for political power and evil. As a former Interbellum political history enthusiast and a Tumblr user who wandered off too far once, I know very well that it is still a contemporary topic, and evil can intrigue even the most consciously opposed to it.
The second play was devoted entirely to the topic, though with a different focus: why do we subconsciously think that evil is cool? How come that the more controversial the artist is the higher interest they gain? And, why in God’s green Earth are we so lenient on debauched artists? I don’t think it is a rallying call to cancel problematic artists, nor is it an introduction to a newly observed phenomenon. It is a truth of the day-to-day we know but often forget.
Our fascination with evil is probably, partially, why gangster-rapper-wannabees exist within affluent and rather happy environments, why gangster-rappers themselves are still being much adored, why anything will sell when you slap “Hitler” on it, and why admiration for evil regimes is still prevalent even without communities of ideologues.
An Incident at Twilight ended very ironically, for us listeners especially. We felt safe from the guiles of evil after being made aware of it only to be impressed by that absolutely gorgeous ending and that absolutely terrifying but brilliant madman.
PS: YES, it is another Ian McDiarmid radio drama. I think most of them, as far as I know, are good, although some stand out like this little one here that I think is a little better than The Remains of the Day which I’ve listened to twice or thrice (I’m into melancholic shit). So, for all of you who miss Ian McDiarmid going full cerebral villain, this double bill entitled Different Truths is the one for you.
P. PS: I drafted this post a week ago.

She’s chaos and he’s just the man to handle her.
The Bodyguard and the Bombshell, a Masters and Mercenaries: New Recruits novella from New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake & 1001 Dark Nights is now live!
The Bodyguard…
Nate Carter left Australia’s elite SASR unit after a tragic accident. Shattered by the experience, he thought taking a job in the States might be a good way to start over. His father’s former employer, McKay-Taggart, has a position for him in the bodyguard unit. He never imagined himself risking his life for celebrities and the wealthy, but it will do for now. It will also give him a chance to reconnect with old friends, including the girl who’d been like a little sis to him ten years before.
These days, however, his feelings for Daisy O’Donnell are anything but brotherly.
The Bombshell…
Daisy O’Donnell is a girl on a mission, and it does not include falling for one of her brother’s best friends. She has plans, and while chaos always seems to follow her, she’s determined to see this through. Daisy finds herself in need of a bodyguard when a job goes terribly wrong. She’s sure her dad will find someone suitable, but she didn’t expect a big, gloriously masculine Aussie to show up ready to take a bullet for her. Maybe spending some time with Nate Carter won’t be so bad after all.
An explosive match…
Thrown together by danger, Nate and Daisy can’t resist the insane chemistry between them. But when his past and her present collide, they must decide if they can hold it together or go their separate ways forever.

“I was helping out a client,” she began. “Uhm, Mr. Taggart, I would like to make it clear we didn’t hire Daisy as a private investigator.” Her bosses were here, too. Harlow and Ruby sat at the opposite end of the table, and Harlow seemed to be the one who wanted to set the record straight. “She was supposed to answer the phones.” Ruby frowned her way. She was going to have to soothe her bosses. Things had done what they so often did in Daisy’s life. They had gone awry. To top things off, her brother was somewhere in the building. Aidan had been the one to drive her up, and he’d told her he needed to go talk to his newest roommate. Nathan Carter. Big, gorgeous Nathan Carter, who’d barely known she’d existed past being his friend’s obnoxious sister. She hadn’t seen Nate in years. Was he still stunning? He probably had a girlfriend. “Daisy?” Her mother’s voice brought her out of her reverie. “Uncle Ian asked you a question.” Of all the grave faces around the table, it was her aunt and uncle who broke the mold and looked highly amused. “I asked how you went from answering the phones to taking down a drug cartel,” Uncle Ian said, his lips curling up. He leaned in like he was ready for this story.

Are Zayn and Selena D@ting? Love in the Spotlight
The two biggest talents in the music industry, Zayn Malik and Selena Gomez, have been the subject of d@ting rumors in both the music and celebrity worlds. Very skilled and good-looking, fans and tabloids alike are asking if the allegations are genuine and if these two artists are d@ting. Are Zayn and Selena D@ting? Come with me as I delve into the nitty-gritty of this rumored celebrity couple.
Are Zayn and Selena D@ting?
The former One Direction singer was most recently publicly linked to Gigi Hadid, whom Selena Gomez joked about d@ting earlier this month. Do Zayn Malik and Selena Gomez go out together? The two music artists, both 30, have been linked after being seen having dinner together in New York. Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik spark romance rumors after alleged NYC dinner date. TikTok user @klarissa.mpeg shared a conversation with a friend who claimed to have been the hostess during the couple's dinner at an unidentified restaurant in the city, and the conversation quickly went viral. She went on to explain that she and her friend both work at restaurants frequented by celebrities, and she then showed a snapshot of a text message in which her friend said, "Tell me how Selena Gomez and Zayn just walked into hand in hand making out and I seated them." You can view Pop Hive's tweet confirming Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik's relationship status down below: Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik are officially d@ting. pic.twitter.com/NYSgIyLmwv — Pop Hive (@thepophive) March 26, 2023 When reached for comment by PEOPLE, representatives for Gomez and Malik were silent. A few weeks before the dinner, Gomez's fans on Twitter saw that Malik had followed back Her on Zyan Malik's Instagram. (She is also one of the "Pillowtalk" singer's 18 followed accounts.) Gomez's response to a fan's question on which One Direction member she'd like to kiss on a red carpet in the early 2010s has also gone viral. "Oh no," the "Lose You to Love Me" singer answers before quickly replying, "Zayn," with a giggle.
In January, the Only Murders in the Building actress and Drew Taggart of the Chainsmokers were spotted at a bowling alley together, sparking d@ting rumors. But, she quickly ended d@ting speculation by deleting an Instagram post where she said she was single. Gomez made light of her single state earlier this month with a TikTok video in which she lip-synced to the following audio: "I hate it when girls are like, 'Oh my God, my crush doesn't even know that I exist.' Like girl, my crush doesn't even exist!" You can learn more about the romantic lives of other famous people by clicking the links above. - James Bergener Net Worth: Sugar Daddy D@ting How Did Noella Bergener Meet Her Ex-husband - Thomas Ian Nicholas Net Worth: Who Is He D@ting Currently? The video accompanied the message "Still out here lookin for him lol." from Rare Beauty's creator. Nevertheless, since breaking up with model Gigi Hadid in October 2021, Malik has not been publicly linked to anybody else. Khai, the couple's 2-year-old daughter, was first reported to be a member of the same family in 2015. I hope your answers to "Are Zayn and Selena D@ting?" prove accurate. Happy Birthday actor Derek Riddell, born January 11th 1967 in Glasgow.
Derek the son of actress Hope Ross and former professional footballer Ian Riddell is best known for being a stage thespian more than anything else. Nevertheless, he still achieved mainstream popularity with roles on Doctor Who, the comedy Ugly Betty, and the Lifetime series State of Mind.
A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he was able to perform a lot of classics onstage in Shakespearean classics such as a Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much ado About Nothing before finally moving to television.
Riddell managed to chalk up two appearances in Taggart. In 2003 he starred in the situation comedy Book Group that aired on Channel 4 between 2002 and 2003. Riddell’s other credits include the brilliant No Angels, Gentleman Jack, Shakespeare-Told, ,Blake’s 7 radio adaptation, Happy Valley and Inspector George Gently. His films include Meat the Campbells, A Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey, A Previous Engagement, and Tumshie McFadgen’s Bid for Ultimate Bliss.
Derek played King James VI in the excellent BBC drama Gunpowder in 2017. He keeps busy, since then he has appeared in some great dramas including, A Confession, Hard Sun and season 5 of Shetland,
In 2020 Derek was on our screens in the BBC/HBO product, Industry about the banking collapse in 2008, Industry, and the Irvine Welsh drama set in Edinburgh, Crime, appearing in 7 of the 12 episodes so far.
Riddell was in two decent mini-series in 2023, Bodies, an excellent time travel type show, featuring four detectives, living in different eras -1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053 - find the body of the same murder victim in Whitechapel. They soon come to realize their investigations have them central to a conspiracy spanning over 150 years. I hope there is a second series, but it looks unlikely. Derek also showed up in Payback, not as good as Bodies, it was a crime story set in Edinburgh, Peter Mullen tried his best, but I wasn't overly impressed with it. Both series did however get 7.3 out of 10 on Imdb.
Last year Derek was in 6 of the 7 episodes of Boarders, which I haven't watched yet, a season 2 is in the making with a whole new cast. He also starred in a TV movie called The Christmas Quest.
A Glasgow actor known for his role in Fantastic Beasts has teamed up with fellow film and TV stars to front a major new modern slavery campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of modern slavery and educate the public on signs that indicate someone may be experiencing modern slavery and exploitation.
In a special film produced for the campaign, Riddell explains how modern slavery "can be hidden in plain sight and is happening in towns and cities across the UK."
He said: "It is important we know that modern slavery is out there, and there are people experiencing it right now."

TOP LASS World TV Day: Vote for Scotland’s greatest telly star. Part 3, the wonderful women – from Laura Fraser to Karen Gillan
Phyllis Logan has a huge and impressive back catalogue of films and TV shows.
She played Lady Jane Felsham in Lovejoy between 1986 and 1994, starring in nearly 50 episodes of the comedy drama series. She was a close friend of Ian McShane's Lovejoy, a rogue antique dealer.
Logan is best-known as housekeeper Mrs Hughes in Downton Abbey, and she was voted the period drama's best ever character in a Radio Times poll.
Although prim and strict as the housekeeper, Mrs Hughes is kind and generous. She is a close ally of butler Mr Carson, with the pair eventually marrying in the later series.
Logan, 64, has also starred in Rab C Nesbitt, Taggart, Spooks and, more recently, Doctor Who.
