Naoise / ノイッシュ, Arden / アーダン, and Alec / アレク
Naoise (JP: ノイッシュ; rōmaji: noisshu; romanization: Noish) is a knight of the Grünritter who joins Sigurd in his journey in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. He is named after the character of Naisi, called Naoise in modern Irish, from the Tragic Tale of the Sons of Uisnech, a section of the Táin Bó Cúailnge. He became the lover of Deirdre, a woman who already promised to wed Conchobar mac Nessa—the king of Ulster. They fled to Alba, that is, Scotland, to escape Conchobar's wrath, and later hid on an adjacent isle upon the Alban king learned of Deirdre's beauty. The people of Ulster dearly missed Naoise, and Conchobar gave into the populace's desires, sending Fergus mac Róich as an envoy to bring the couple back. This plan was sowed with evil from the start; soon after Naoise and Deirdre meet Conchobar, battle breaks out. By the conclusion, Naoise is dead, and Conchobar takes Deirdre to be his wife.
The character of Sigurd, being the husband of Genealogy's Deirdre, has a handful of parallels with Naoise, from his exile from Grannvale to his wife being taken by the one who plots against him. This connection is made even more direct by naming his knights after the sons of Uisnech.
That's right: Naoise had two brothers with minor roles in the story, serving as the namesakes of Sigurd's two other knights. Arden (JP: アーダン; rōmaji: Ādan) is named after the youngest of the three brothers, Ardan. That leaves Alec (JP: アレク; rōmaji: areku) to be the middle child, Ainle. Even if you don't understand Japanese, you probably can tell something is off here. And you're right: Ainle is supposed to be rendered as アンリ (rōmaji: anri)—the same name as the legendary wielder of Falchion, Anri. Likely to avoid stepping on the toes of another continent's lore, the name was changed. I do wonder why such a drastic change was made; I don't think something like アンレ (rōmaji: anre) would have been problematic.
The sons of Uisnech all fell in that conflict against Conchobar; some tellings claim they were killed simultaneously, decapitated with Naoise's sword, granted to him by the god Manannán mac Lir, or run through by a single pike. Of course, all three of these Grünritter were slain in the Battle of Belhalla.

Round One - Bracket Eleven [Dimension 20 NPC of All Time]
Mira vs Garthy O'Brien
Descriptions under the cut
Mira - She/Her
Campaign: Neverafter
Who is she?
Mira is a daughter of the Mer-King who wished to be a human. In exchange for her legs, Mira gave up her voice, and endures terrible pain with each step. Despite being born a mermaid princess, Mira is transformed into a human woman. However, walking is incredibly difficult as each step feels like she's walking on knives. Initially mute, the Sea Witch, Alba Mac Lir ultimately gives Mira back her voice. However, being human, she can no longer breathe underwater.
Why is she the NPC of All Time?
Queen of free will and agency over herself and her story. She choses to continue to be in pain rather than kill the man she loves even though he doesn't love her. She choses to fight her father instead of going back with him because it's not what she wants and she choses ultimately to fight the princesses because she doesn't want her story to end there.

I don’t actually know what they represent or if the Witches are ever going to present a united front at all, (probably not), but so far… I’m kinda on their side? (Even though I don’t know what it is.)
Obviously the Snow Queen had values and principles that she cared about enough that she chose death over betraying them and serving the Princesses and their goals. Alba Mac Lir maybe isn’t great, but she made her deals all above board; everyone she bartered with knew what they were getting into. Even the great Baba Yaga herself is usually portrayed as an ambiguous character rather than an evil one; more of a shrewd bargainer and tricky speaker. She’ll give you what you want or need, but you need to be very careful and watch your words, lest you wind up offering more in return than you meant to.
Certainly there are some Witches in these stories that are presented as unambiguously evil, the Evil Queen in Snow White, the Witch who imprisons Rapunzel, etc, but once again we hit Stepmother territory, where they are this way because they were given no other choice. Who’s to say if once they have knowledge of themselves as being tropes, much like the Stepmother, they don’t go the opposite way and choose to become better versions of themselves? That’s one thing Brennan hasn’t presented us with yet. A character who has been given this meta knowledge, and when confronted with it, makes the choice to become the best version of themselves they can, at least within their current incarnation. It’d be interesting to see.
Anyway, go Witches!

Amazing addition - gorgeous. Wonderful.
What's her deal? Scottish?
Yeah.
Fun fact, the Sea Witch, Alba - Alba is actually the Scottish Gaelic word for Scotland!

Idk if it's just me but Destiny's Children keep on bringing up Princesses vs Fairies and don't ask for more info on the Stepmother. I mean a lot is going on but like I bet Alba Mac Lir would know SOMETHING.
Also Stepmother currently feels way more team Princesses right now.

So true.
I think it comes back to the fact that they were probably characters before they were people.
They are awakened now and think that means they are no longer characters, that they are now people as they always thought they were.
They can recognise when Events™️ influenced their story, but they barely flirt with the idea that their emotions and feelings are influenced just as easily by their archetype, because that is too much for them to be able to truly comprehend.
Which ironically is one of their most Real traits. Irl humans have been having the philosophical argument over fate and freewill for at least as long as we've had the technology to record said arguments.
They can look at their life and go "oh I got cursed/poisoned and then had to wait for a prince to save me because that is how the story goes" and can now acknowledge how fucked that is, but they haven't reached the next step of "my response to those outside events has been dictated by an archetype or set of character traits assigned to me by the same entities scripting those events."
I'm struggling to phrase this but like, they can comprehend and rail against the external forces of their story, but they are unable to turn that same awareness and rebellion to the internal forces that build their story.
They haven't had that lightbulb moment of "not only was the situation I was in fucked up and manufactured but so were all my responses to that situation as they occurred, I need to critically reexamine these thoughts and feelings that have become central to who I am since awakening."
At least in the cases of the princesses and such. The witches (or at least sea witch Alba Mac Lir) seem to have looked at that thorny philosophical debate and decided to check right out. "Oh my driving motivation seems kind of overblown and 2 dimensional and cruel? Go tell someone who cares, I just work here."
I think the essence of what’s messed up abt the neverafter is that everyone we meet in the world, is so obsessed with being in a narrative (being the bad guy, exacting a price, having won the story etc…) that they have completely lost track of the basic decency they owe other people.
Like Gerard couldn’t fathom that being a frog king, also meant ruling a kingdom or being a good husband.
Cinderella refused to help her stepmothers kids, not on any emotional merit, but because her step mother was the bad guy and bad guys wallow in misery after defeat.
The sea witch had no good justification for hurting the little mermaid, or for taking the bridle. And then when she got a hold of the treasure, she had to be REMINDED THAT SHE HAD THE MEANS TO END MIRAS SUFFERING BY A FUCKING CHILD??
This sort of behaviour is extremely antisocial and cruel. Like?? None of these people realise other people are people.

The Celtic Nations with their native place names.
by u/oglach:
In legend Éire is named for the goddess Ériu, but in actuality the goddess was probably named for the island, with the name coming from Proto-Celtic Φīwerjō meaning Full/Abounding. So something like Abundant Land.
Alba ultimately comes from a proto Indo-European root meaning "White", probably referring to the Cliffs of Dover. It originally referred to all of Britain in Goidelic, being related to the term Albion.
Kernew comes from Proto-Celtic karnos meaning "horn", referring to the shape of the peninsula.
Mannin is named for the sea god Manannán mac Lir, or Manawydan fab Llŷr as he was called by the Welsh.
And Breizh just means "Land of the Britons", which replaced the older Continental Celtic name of Armorica when the area was resettled by Celts from Britain in the early middle ages.
