Even with his funny shirts and a big smile, Choji inspired fear in your friends but not in you. You got along really well since the day he complimented your keychains attached to your bag. Seemingly the only "strange" thing about your elegant and stylish appearance. At the same time, his T-shirt brought a smile to your face, leaving both of you grinning and richer by a new friend.

You got more attached to each other, the more times you met. He brought you so much joy so easily and, you could say, stupidly. You really did appreciate the different and more relaxed way he was compared to your classmates.

All the rumours your friends told you about him being the leader of Shishitoren, the fights he got in, and the race for the strength he constantly found himself in, didn't have that much effect on you. Of course, the first time you saw his bloody fists and dark eyes was very shocking, you even took a step back trying to calm yourself before you could run away from him. And so after talking and him sharing in excitement that his fists were finally heavier and more powerful you only smiled at him and congratulated him. He reminded you of a cute puppy, a cute but feral puppy.

As mentioned it wasn't strange for you to see him covered in blood but to see him at your school gate with blood over his T-shirt was new. He just got too excited to share something with you and had to do so right after the fight.

You came out of school with your friends and immediately you heard all sorts of mutters from around you.

"Why is he here?" Someone behind you whispered.

"Oh my God!"

"Is that blood?" A couple of voices echoed.

Then your eyes meet the figure that caused all this disturbance. His eyes searched the crowd constantly moving from one leg to another and swinging side to side. When he finally found you he smiled brightly and waved in your direction.

"Oh, (Y/n)! I was waiting for you." Choji said and eagerly bounced toward you.

Seeing that your friends hid behind you grabbing at your arms and using you as their shield. You knowing such a delinquent made them question if you had some trouble or got into some unwanted company.

"Hi Choji, what happened to you?" You asked when he stopped before you.

Your friends and people around gasped at the friendly attitude you shared with some thug, covered in blood and with bruises lining his body.

"Oh, that? Just some weak guys that went out of line. Had to set them straight." He replied cheerfully and you could see the people around shivering in fear at the temporary change in his voice.

"I see, then good job keeping them in their place." Your monotone voice made him very happy.

"Thanks."

When you felt your friends' grips tightening around your arms and shoulders once again you sighed and shook them off. You reached into your fancy bag and took out a pack of wet tissues. Taking one you stepped closer to him and your hand reached toward his face.

"Here, let me help you with the blood." You proposed and your friends gasped dramatically making you roll your eyes.

"(Y/n), don't come so close to him." One of them said trying to come to you and bring you away from the boy but you just raised your brows at them.

"Oh, come on, it's not like he'll bite you." You said sarcastically, but you knew that he could if he was provoked, you wouldn't put it behind him.

"Eeek." At yet another sound from your classmates, you had enough.

You grabbed Choji's hand leading him out of the school grounds and on the way to some quiet place.

"I'll see you guys later." You told your friends not even sparing them a look.

"Are you sure?"

"Will you be alright?" They asked worried about you.

"Yes, don't worry." You turned briefly toward them and sent them a small reassuring smile before continuing with Choji by your side.

He was unusually docile, but you blamed it on his after-fight excitement and need to share the whole story with you.

When you were far enough, you sat on the benches near some playground. You gave him the tissue and he finished cleaning his face up as best as he could without seeing where the dry blood was. Then he searched his jacket's pockets before grabbing something and showing it to you. From his finger dangled a cute little charm and you tilted your head.

"What's that?"

He grinned at your question.

"Ah, yes! Here you can have it. I got it from the kid I helped." He said before shoving it in your lap.

He then started telling the story in much more detail, talking about how heavy his fists were when he saw the kid in trouble, and when he beat up the guys. And you, you listened to him going on and on while playing with the fuzzy charm.

One more show on my watchlist this season is Flower and Asura. Our main character, Hana, becomes captivated watching a girl do a vivid reading of a story on television and finds herself with an aspiration to do narration herself. Quietly doing this on her hometown island to the local children, she captures the ear of a passing high schooler one day. This girl, Mizuki, wants Hana to join the school's broadcasting club and hone her craft, helping them in a national competition. It takes a bit of convincing due to Hana's cautious nature, but the first episode finishes with her joining the club, setting the stage for the series to come. In a way, this is making me recall Akebi of Akebi's Sailor Uniform, the type of story with a small-town girl with a much bigger world inside her mind that everyone should get to experience. Hopeful this will be a fulfilling, interesting series to watch for winter.

Started watching (and reading) Akebi's Sailor Uniform, and it's so savage that she expressly stated in the interview with her school that she was applying BECAUSE she specifically wanted to wear a sailor uniform and NONE OF THEM were like "Oh we actually discontinued that uniform and use blazers now"

Like I do get that the whole plot is her wanting that and being the only one at school in the sailor uniform, but the implication and outright statement that she had at least one (but likely more than one) interview with this school to get in, and they never thought even once to let her know, despite her directly stating that is why she wanted to go there is insane

La seconda stagione della serie arriverà a partire da luglio! Tenete presente, però, che fra questa e la prima ci sono ben tre film che continuano la storia; Crunchyroll ne ha portati due al cinema l'anno scorso, magari la distribuirà in simulcast anche per noi?

Re:Dive) sta attualmente supervisionando l'intero progetto presso Studio Gokumi (I'm Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class), la sceneggiatura e il reparto sonoro, mentre si è riservato di lasciare la regia in mano a Yasuo Iwamoto (Princess Connect! Re:Dive - Stagione 2).

Mostrato finalmente anche un primo trailer per la serie Disney+ in arrivo da ottobre.

Come vi dicevo, sono già state confermate tre stagioni: Episode of Heartslabyul, Episode of Savanaclaw e Episode of Octavinelle, ognuna basata su uno dei manga legati all'originale videogioco, con protagonisti studenti ispirati a celebri villain delle opere Disney.

So the opposite of Akebi's Sailor Uniform

I'm kidding, I doubt it has the same plot.

Have any of you heard of Akebi? She goes to a specific middle school because he mom went there and they have sailor uniforms she was really hoping to wear. However, as soon as she gets in, she discovers that they've switched to blazers. However, the school board gives Akebi permission to wear her sailor uniform anyways, effectively making her the only girl in school dressed like that.

From there, it's pretty much a Pollyanna plotline. With a cheery and enthusiastic disposition, she goes from classmate to classmate and she kind of helps them through their insecurities, either indirectly or directly in some cases.

It's a very cute slice-of-life story. The only downside? Well um... either the author had a brutally honest depiction of girls going through adolescence, or they accidently let a dozen or so barely disguised fetishes in the show.

Reflections: Akebi-chan no Sailor-Fuku Episode 7

Guys, I gotta level with ya on this episode. It was long ago I watched this show. I was mostly drawn to it by it’s purely calming atmosphere at first. But as I moved on, it continually impressed me. When it dawned on me that nearly a year later, I still am haunted by the truths this episode made apparent to me, I knew it must have been at least good enough (If not exceptional) far more than I originally anticipated.

            It culminates in the scene when Hebimori takes a walk after school, and witnesses everyone practicing for their club. The episode has an extreme attention to detail on the actual first steps of learning guitar. As a guitarist, I’m sure this gives special resonance to me. But even separate from that personal resonance, the message speaks to life as a whole. I’m sure none of us are strangers to lack of determination. Especially nowadays, with so many easy escapes available on the internet, that for many of us, it can feel an extremely difficult task keeping up everyday intensive hobbies, and through this neglect never experience that transformative and valuable joy of fighting for something and getting it.

            This is where I’m am so continually amazed by children’s style fiction. In many ways, I think Moe speaks to people because it does capture that calming effect of early children’s cartoons. From having a comfortable and warming color tone, to somewhat predictable plots, driven by very pleasant characters, calming music, everything is designed to evoke peace. It not only calls to mind the effect these early television shows we used to watch, but the state of mind which we were in when our parents sought to calm us down by method of simple, calming, brain numbing audio-video materials. I assumed as I aged, I must have gotten smarter, and the merit once gained from them was no longer applicable to the me today. But realizing this connection between moe and children’s literature and fiction, I realize the relevance it still holds as a valid theme in all artistic works.

            A Place Further than the Universe is a masterpiece, in a very different way that Les Miserables is. Yet, they both accomplish conveying an exceptionally deep message, and that’s why they both qualify as masterpieces. However, something like Les Miserables may initially seem more mature, it is rather just the detailed version of conveying some of the same messages. Whereas, much of Moe does the same thing, but in simpler terms. This is where Moe excels, it lowers your defenses. Makes you feel comfortable, safe, and not expecting anything to get too real. Hence, it is very functional for that purpose. However, there is the class of Moe (In my opinion, Quality Moe) that slips in those transformative moments, or in some cases, drops them glaringly in front of your face. Furthermore, since they are presented to such a childlike manner, it puts the deep, complex messages into words that even a child could understand. All of us, still having a piece or memory of what it was like to be that child, have a subconscious response to this. But when you think through your experience, and you realize it’s applicable to your life as an adult, you suddenly illuminate some of those lessons that slipped by you somehow. Or maybe, you just forgot them.

            All the time, I try to systematize my life to enhance it. Make a schedule, get more done, think harder. All of these have merit no doubt, but all seek to exploit the bounties of life through third person management. But thinking of this as the more mature way to handle things, we feel somewhat scared to break this rule enough as is healthy. We get too focused on the frills we put in place, but forget to search or keep in mind the fundamental message. That which doesn’t need to be explained to be known. Those lessons you just used to hear repeated by mentors, TV shows and friends. And you always wondered, which ones would stay applicable, and which ones were bullshit made up to manipulate my dumb child brain?

            That takes me too the club practice scene. Hebimori is on the verge of giving up, but comes to see so many of her peers and loved ones working so hard for what they’ve dedicated themselves too. From the gorgeous imagery, to the perfectly timed music, each one calls out to her. I always break down during this scene. As one of her classmates looks so distraught, and appears to be suffering so much from running, and it sinks in on Hebimori that she does this every day, and does it with enthusiasm, puts into contrast just how little she’s trying. Then, to the gut wrenching hollers of Akebi and the Drama Club President chanting vowels like drill sergeants, and the courage it takes for them to committing to embarrassing themselves in front of the school to pursue their hobby. Then, a more thoughtful reflection upon her roommate. As the music hangs, we hang in suspense waiting for her to make the shot, and she fails. But the shot doesn’t move on, and resumes for her second attempt, as the ball satisfyingly falls through the hoop, and we see a small token of her pay off from all her hard work. Framed so dramatically by the music and cinematography, yet such a small and seemingly mundane moment of progress. Even when slowed, it only lasts a few seconds at most.

            That is the beauty of this style. The lens through which everything is viewed, is so earnestly optimistic that just like Hebimori feels outdone by her classmates, you too feel outdone by the show. Even though fictional, you look at these people and see just how much work they put in every day to build the life of the happy person they have a responsibility to be. They see everything through meaning-­colored glasses. No matter the moment, every aspect of the direction is placed in order to convey the significance of the moment through anything but excessive words. It must be able to do so, on a level deeper than language. And if these characters who inspire you and give your day such a sweet nugget of joy, you feel challenged by them to see the worlds more beautifully. Or rather, by the work of art itself. And you think, if the world can look this beautiful, if you’re not seeing it this way for at least 25 minutes a day, then I don’t think you’re really living. Not to the fullest, at least.

            Seeing the following arc where they hear Erika play the piano so beautifully. Hebimori is so encapsulated by its beauty, that the animation morphs into an even hazier, warmer version of the art than before, beaming rays of soft light mixing with its seas of blues. She is taken away for a moment, from herself, her surroundings, her worries and her aspirations. She experiences when music takes you out of the body, out of the mind. But then, returning from that after the song ends and the animation returns to normal, she feels so left out and dry after returning to earth, experiencing the double edged sword of transformative art. It’s inspiring, and one of the things that makes life worth living, but it is also so daunting. To know, there are people this much better than me out there? It challenges your validity as an artist entirely, to realize that the people where you’re shooting to reach, are so far out of your league that you can barely even comprehend it. She tries to run away, but Akebi being such a good friend, (in other words, a mad bro) holds Hebimori accountable with her earnest and goodhearted desire to hear her play.

            The performance is definitely above average, but it pays attention to still encapsulating that quality of a passionate performance from a novice. That passion that captured, makes irrelevant the lack of otherwise necessary musical qualities. The rhythm is a bit of, the pitch isn’t perfect or the guitar out of tune. There’s not much I can say for this scene, because most of what it has to say can only be said through witnessing the beauty of this scene for the song. All I can really add, is that the cherry falls right on top when Akebi (being yet again a mad bro) claps so enthusiastically (like a child), and as if at a professional venue, that she is so earnestly proud of her friend, that she gives a full, loud, stupid looking standing ovation in the middle of an empty room. The vulnerability this character wears on her sleeve is absolutely endearing and inspiring, and I aspire to someday reach such levels of comfort with myself.

This episode reminds me that I need to seriously work at making my life and the worlds a better place if I truly want to see it happen. Luckily for me, I share a passion with the subject of this episode. So every day, I have the same reminder she does. The rusty stringed old friend leaning against the wall, begging me for my company. Remembering that if I truly love something, I need to invest in it every day. And maybe, if I do that, I really can change some things for the better.

The lessons these shows have taught me, I can never repay.

Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story Season 2 Spoiler-Filled Review [Part 2]

Continued from part 1

Although there, sadly, wasn't a kiss between Eve and Aoi, the series was filled with gay subtext. While some may call it yuri-bait, it is more charitable to describe it as yuri subtext. In any case, the show was a fun ride. It wrapped up far too quickly, with many time jumps. Despite this, the ending of the series makes clear that the game between Aoi and Eve continues forever. There is the implication that they won't be apart and may even play again.

The ending could have been stronger, but I don't detest it. There is enough space and possible storyline, especially during the two aforementioned time skips, that a third season or even an OVA could expand upon. Such a season, or OVA, could focus on Eve and Aoi, or the growing closeness between the two caddies, Amane and Ichina, shown in the final episode. There is fan support for another season, or OVA. It remains to be seen if executives think the same.

There are other praiseworthy elements of Birdie Wing. The music complements the action. It accompanies the strong, flowing animation. The two highly skilled series composers, Kōtarō Nakagawa and Hironori Anazawa, make the series that much better. The former composed music for Gosick and Chivalry of a Failed Knight, while the latter did music for Scarlet Nexus.

Birdie Wing is nothing like any currently airing series produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, or those by Sunrise. Such series are supernatural action, mecha, or military science fiction. Bandai Namco Pictures is known for Gintama, Brave Beats, and Aikatsu!. Another division of the same company, Sunrise (also called Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc.), is recognized for other series. This includes Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, Love Live! Superstar!!, Love Live! Sunshine!!, Love Live! School Idol Project, Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Tiger & Bunny, Dirty Pair, and Cowboy Bebop.

The series director, Takayuki Inagaki, worked on Fuuka, KanColle, Kokoro Library, Princess Tutu, and R.O.D. the TV. Yōsuke Kuroda, main writer for Birdie Wing, worked on Kokoro Library as well. He served as a head writer for Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid and Madlax.

The voice cast are just as seasoned and have often voiced queer characters. Akari Kito, who voices Eve, voiced magical girl Momo Chiyoda in The Demon Girl Next Door, Kanata Konoe in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Touko Usagihara in Akebi's Sailor Uniform, and Sakura Adachi in Adachi and Shimamura. Asami Seto, voice of Aoi, previously voiced Yoshino Takatsuki in Wandering Son, Charlotte Scherzen in Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid, Fena Houtman in Fena: Pirate Princess, and Nene Saionji in Yuri Is My Job!

Seto is scheduled to voice Yori Asanagi in Whisper Me a Love Song in January 2024. M.A.O. (voice of Kaoruko Iijima) will voice Kohaku in Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror. The latter is a Love Live! Sunshine!! spinoff which recently premiered on Crunchyroll. The voice actor of Amane (Ami Koshimizu) voiced Yang Xiao Long in RWBY: Ice Queendom, Elda in Otaku Elf, Maria in Management of a Novice Alchemist, and Sailor Jupiter in Sailor Moon Crystal. All these characters are directly or indirectly queer.

Akira Sekine, voice of Lily, previously voiced Sora/Cure Sky in Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure and Princess Charlotte in Princess Principal. Saki Fujita, who voices Ichina, previously lent her voice to school president Mitsuki Sonoda in Sakura Trick. Sonoda had a huge crush on Haruka Takayama. Other voice actors are known for their roles in Maria Watches Over Us, Yurikuma Arashi, D4DJ, Akebi's Sailor Uniform, YuruYuri, Strawberry Panic!, and Sweet Blue Flowers.

Birdie Wing will likely not be continued. Similar themes were likely added to the video game associated with the series. The connection to Madlax, since it is in the same universe, will remain a topic of ongoing fan speculation. I will always remember this anime fondly. It may be some time before another anime can shoot me right through, as Eve says to her opponents, like this one.

And I'm sorry, the show does look gorgeous but I need a little bit more than 'anime girl wants to wear a school uniform and make friends' as a premise.
