275 - The Woman in the Window (Patreon Selects)

We're wrapping up our run of Patreon Selects episode with a real doozy! Originally intended for 2019, The Woman in the Window was meant as a prestige adaptation of a popular thriller, packing quite the pedigree. With the attached talents of director Joe Wright, writer Tracy Letts, and star Amy Adams (along with a stellar supporting cast), the film follows an agoraphobic who witnesses a murder across the street, setting off a mystery of mistaken identities and skewed perceptions of reality. Then, it was hit by a rapid succession of misfortunes including the Disney-Fox merger, a cringe-inducing exposé on author A.J. Finn, and, well, the pandemic.

This episode, we talk about what went wrong and what might have been watered down by the Tony Gilroy reshoots. We also discuss Adams' recent run of disappointing roles, our hopes for Nightbitch later this year, and Jennifer Jason Leigh joins our Six Timers Club!

Topics also include the emergence of Fred Hechinger, Julianne Moore's brief boozy performance, and the film's somewhat unceremonious Netflix drop.

today i will be discussing my book, which will hopefully be cool and awesome

so anyway so i am reading The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn and it's pretty cool so far

i wasn't really aware of what the genre of this story was going into it, so it's kind of just been a mystery for me. i'm not very far into it, only about 40 chapters i think?

but it seemed like my kind of book, and i was right. :) it's been good so far!! i'll add a spoiler below before i get into it.

so, basically, the main character is this woman who has been inside her home for like 10 months. she's agoraphobic, and doesn't live with anyone else besides her tenant who lives in the basement. she is separated from her husband and eight year old child, and at this point in the story, i still don't know why. however, i'm only like 30% of the way through with it, so that makes sense.

anyways, most recently in the story, she sees her neighbor (jane) get stabbed whilst looking out the window. the woman in the story (anna), tries to call 911 and get help for jane, but becomes overwhelmed with panic during the call. anna, gathering her strength, decides to try and go outside to help jane herself, but collapses in the park before she can reach the street.

so then we find out that supposedly, her neighbor wasn't stabbed??? or something?? i fell asleep and so i don't have all the details yet

but like isn't that crazy?? anyway

i probably should've like... wrote about a book i had finished already

but i'll do that later

End of Story by A.J. Finn

A.J. Finn has done it again and delivered another jaw dropping thriller. End of Story is about a woman named Nicky Hunter who is invited to visit the home of her favorite mystery author Sebastian Trapp. The two have been corresponding back and forth for five years and after recently discovering that he has only three months to live, Sebastian decides he wants Nicky to write his story. On New Year's Eve in 1999, Sebastian's son Cole and his wife Hope disappeared without a trace and this disappearance has haunted both him and his daughter Madeleine. Rather than tell us the mystery of what happened in two alternating storylines, we learn about Cole and Hope through video tapes, hearsay, and Cole's diary. I thought I had this book figured out but was still completely blindsided by the reveal of what happened. It's a slow burn so expect maybe a handful of chapters that actually have a lot of action. I give it 5 stars.

I’m probably the only person who cares about this, but I desperately want Tama Tonga and Finn Bálor to come face to face.

What adds fuel to this fire is the fact that the WWE world seems to be ok with acknowledging past relationships between wrestlers outside of WWE. That’s the entire foundation for DIY and MCMG right now. They’re acknowledging things that happened in other companies.

Two OG Bullet Club founding members are on the WWE roster and they haven’t come face to face a single time. Even if they don’t directly acknowledge this fact, JUST GIVE US SOMETHING.

(Holy shit, I just remembered that they totally had a bullet club moment when AJ and Finn teamed up back in 2022. THERE IS A CHANCE)
