Only a few more days. 

A few more days for all of the pilots to show that they could make it through the training exercises. That they could make it through this mission and come home. That was the most important part to Jake, the coming home part. He needed to come home. 

So when Maverick flew the mission successfully and no one else had, Jake felt a sort of relief. Perhaps it would be him and Maverick up there, Mav as team leader and Jake, his wingman, and he’d be fine with that. Seeing Maverick fly it successfully upped the game for everyone though and not only did Jake come out on top with the fastest time after Maverick, but he had earned the trust of those in the dual aircrafts to where he’d somehow instilled confidence enough in Payback and Fanboy to fly it successfully behind him and hit the target.

When Maverick stood up there, in front of the room, and picked the teams, Jake shed tears, a mixture of excitement and fear for what was to come. “The Team Leader will be Hangman.” He’d said. “Your wingman will be Rooster...And your two Foxtrot teams will be Phoenix and Bob, and Payback and Fanboy.”

When Jake stepped down out of his truck and walked up the stairs to the front door of Sam’s house, he felt like his whole body drained of blood. How was he going to tell her? Hey, I'm mission leader, I'll be gone for a week or so when you need me the most? Jake's brow knit and he felt a wave of anxiety rush over him. What if she called off the engagement then and there? He couldn't think about that right now. 

It was Sam who answered the door, and Rocco was right behind her. Jake knelt down, picking the little dog up and scratching him all over, but once he stopped and put him down, he saw the expression on Sam’s face. She’d folded her arms across her chest and she was for sure on the verge of tears.

“Nat texted me.” She said, her voice crackly. Jake pulled her into a tight embrace and she broke down, sobs wracking her body for what felt like the millionth time that week. He tried his best to console her, but there was nothing he could do. The only thing was for him to not go on the mission, but that was out of the question. Part of him had wanted this, but part of him was unsure. Part of him didn’t want it at all.

“I don't want to lose you too, Jake.” She whined quietly as he rubbed small circles on her lower back. His lips touched her temple softly.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t honestly think I was going to get picked. I thought it was gonna be Mav and Rooster after yesterday, but they won’t send Mav. Cyclone won’t risk his career. And I get that. I couldn’t have gotten this without you, Sam. I couldn’t be a team leader without your help. My team actually trusts me to fly this mission and I’m gonna do my damndest to bring everyone home safely.” Jake explained, as he smoothed his hand over her hair and rubbed the back of her neck. This calmed her enough to look up at him.

“You had better come home, Jake. I need you.” Sam demanded, through the tears stinging her eyes, and through broken but soft cries. Her fingernails dug into his chest, grasping at him as if she would die if she let him go.

“I will. I promise.” Jake said, holding her tight to his body. “Now...I've got the night to do whatever I want. So what would you like to do, babygirl?” He asked, wiping tears away from her cheeks with his shirt. She sniffled and stretched up to ask for a kiss, which he willingly gave.

“I just wanna spend it with you, in your arms.” She said, and Jake nodded.

“You wanna stay here or go back to my place? Javy will be out with his new lady friend.” Jake asked, figuring he knew what her answer would be. She simply yelled back into the house that she was going to Jake’s for the night, then shut the door behind her. She didn’t even grab extra clothes. She’d just steal one of his shirts later.

“Let’s go.” She took his hand and directed him toward his truck. Jake hoped the night didn’t go by too quickly. He wanted to savor it.

Jake had ordered pizza for them, and they had started watching a movie while they ate, but after some time during the movie, Sam had begun to nod off. “I don’t want to fall asleep yet...it’ll make the morning come and you’ll have to leave.” She said, yawning and Jake smiled weakly. She was right. 

“We don’t have to. C’mon, I’ve got somethin’ else in mind to occupy us for a bit.” Jake said, pulling her to her feet and guiding her toward the stairs. They began making out, chaste kisses and light touches at first, but as they neared his bedroom, the intensity of their desire rose. He didn’t bother turning the light on, letting the full moon’s light shine through the balcony door. As he guided Sam to the bed, he removed his shirt, his tags jingling around his neck. The silver of them caught in the light and glinted, reminding Sam of the mission he was about to embark on and how every day from now on was not promised. 

As he hovered over her, she admired the way the low light highlighted his muscles and the shadows contoured them. She had a newfound appreciation for the way they flexed, in tension and release as he began to pleasure her. UKRAINIAN MISSILE SHOOTS DOWN RUSSIAN MILITARY TRANSPORT PLANE FILLED WITH ITS OWN POWs

74 are dead, including 65 Ukrainian POWs, after a Russian military transport plane being used to facilitate a prisoner exchange scheduled for Wednesday was downed somewhere over the Bolgorod region of the Russian Federation, near the border with Ukraine. The prisoner exchange has since been called off by Russian authorities.

In an article published by Ukrainian Pravda, a Ukrainian news periodical, a source is cited as saying that the aircraft was downed by Ukrainian forces near the border with Russia's Bolgorod region, however they have since retracted the source, and are now claiming they cannot confirm the news. The Russian authorities have since confirmed that the plane was in fact downed by a Ukrainian missile, likely using either an American Patriot air defense missile or a German-made Iris-T.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian authorities say that the crash took place at approximately 11:15am (local time), when a Russian Il-76 military transport plane filled with Ukrainian POWs was downed near the Bolgorod region.

“At about 11:00 Moscow time, an Il-76 plane crashed during a scheduled flight in the Belgorod region. On board there were 65 captured Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen, <including> six crew members and three accompanying persons,” the statement says.

In its statement, the Russian Defense Ministry slammed the missile strike, declaring the "Kiev regime committed a terrorist act" in downing the military transport.

According to Russian sources, the aircraft had been en route from the Chkalovsky military airbase in Moscow, and was shot down by air defenses stationed somewhere in the Kharkov oblast in the northeast of Ukraine, killing everyone on board.

The Russian and Ukrainian authorities had agreed to conduct a prisoner exchange later on Wednesday, with the exchange set to take place near the Russian village of Kolotilovka, also in the Bolgorod oblast, close to the border with Ukraine.

A second military transport aircraft carrying some 80 Ukrainian POWs was turned around before reaching the danger area, and was successfully diverted to another airbase after news of the downing reached Russian authorities.

The Ukrainian officials have so far refused to comment on the crash, remaining mum as news of the event spreads, although Andrey Yusov, a spokesperson for the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) confirmed a prisoner exchange had been scheduled for Wednesday, adding that the exchange has since been cancelled.

Hi! A google search would probably do a better job than I could summarizing it for you, but essentially Masters of the Air is Tom Hanks's third WWII rpf miniseries, and it's a fictionalized account of the US Air Force 100th bomb group that were deployed to and operating from great Britain in that war.

The show keeps a fairly steady focus on the leads, John 'bucky Egan and Gale 'buck' Cleven, but it's a group of guys and everyone gets their moment. Huge effort for historical accuracy with the aircraft especially, some really tense and cinematically great aerial scenes, and, as it's following real life, some typically tragic wartime circumstances. Oh, and the actor who plays Bucky apparently decided his character must be In Love with Buck, and carries on accordingly 🛩️💕

The United States Armed Forces launched a wave of "retaliatory" strikes against supposed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iraq and Syria Friday after previously blaming Iran for the recent deaths of three American soldiers by Shia militias in Iraq and Syria.

Although many of these groups receive funding and purchase arms from Iran, the White House has yet to produce evidence that any these Militias, such as Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq, take literal orders from Iran, or that Iran even knew anything about the attacks on American bases.

Iran, for its part, denies involvement in the drone strikes that killed three U.S. soldiers on the border of Jordan and Syria, and denies knowing about it in advance.

Still, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) released a statement on the social media platform X, announcing that U.S. had "conducted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated militia groups."

U.S. forces launched strikes against "85 targets" in Iraq and Syria, utilizing "numerous aircraft," including long-range bombers "flown from the United States."

According to CENTCOM, the attacked also used "125 precise munitions" striking "command and control operation centers, intelligence centers, rockets and missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities" belonging to Militia groups "and their IRGC sponsors who facilitated the attacks" against U.S. and partner countries in the region.

In Iran, President Ebrahim Raeisi vowed to respond to any attack by U.S. Forces, telling reporters earlier Friday that Iran has "said many times that we will not be the initiator of any war, but if a country or a cruel force wants to bully the Islamic Republic of Iran, it will respond firmly."

Despite the death of three U.S. service members and the wounding of dozens as a result of the recent strikes on U.S. bases, all of which are located in the middle of the desert overlooking refugees of U.S. wars, yet no one in the U.S. mainstream media seems capable of asking just what American soldiers were doing on the border of Jordan and Syria in the first place?
