Zurich Airport, CH (No. 2)
The airport has three airside piers, which are known as terminals A, B, and E (also signposted as Gates A, B/D, and E). These are linked to a central air-side building called Airside Centre, built in 2003. Alongside the Airside Centre, the ground-side terminal complex named Airport Centre comprises several buildings, and includes airline check-in areas, a shopping mall, a railway station, car parks, and a bus and tram terminal. All departing passengers access the same departure level of the Airside Centre, which includes duty-free shopping and various bars and restaurants, via airport security. They are then segregated between passengers for Schengen and non-Schengen destinations on the way to the gate lounges, with the latter first passing through emigration controls. Arriving Schengen and non-Schengen passengers are handled in separate areas of the Airside Centre and reach it by different routes, with non-Schengen passengers first passing through immigration controls.

Airbus A320 Air Arabia Abu Dhabi
Registration: A6-AUG Type: A320-214 Engines: 2 × CFMI CFM56-5B4/3 Serial Number: 6166 First flight: Jun 18,2014
Air Arabia was founded in February 2003, and began operations in October of the same year. It became the first low-cost airline in the Middle East. The company's head office is located in the Sharjah Freight Center building, at the Sharjah International Airport, United Arab Emirates.
It was a time of rapid growth for the largest airlines in the Persian Gulf. In November 2003, Etihad, the flagship carrier of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, made its first flight. Sixteen years later, in the fall of 2019, Etihad, already world–famous, partnered with Air Arabia to establish its own low-cost airline, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi. This happened two years after the state-owned Etihad launched a five-year transformation plan.
In the spring of 2020, the new airline Air Arabia Abu Dhabi received an operator's certificate from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the UAE. At that time, the airline had not yet determined an exact launch date due to flight restrictions during the pandemic. Under the agreement with Etihad, Air Arabia supports the network of destinations provided by the flagship, and in return gets access to the growing low-cost airline market. In May 2020, the newly formed airline started its operations with only two Airbus A320 aircraft.
Currently, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi is based at Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed International Airport and has a fleet of 10 Airbus A320 aircraft. There were also competitors in the face of another low–cost airline, Wizz Air, which has 12 A321 aircraft based at the same airport. A serious competitor, but as the Arabic saying goes, "The residents of the house know better what is inside." Just two years later, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi became the emirate's second largest airline, serving 24 destinations.

airsLLide No. 6808: N484GX, Airbus A320-212, LACSA Lineas Aereas Costaricenses SA, Miami-International, March 19, 1992.
LACSA, the flag carrier of Costa Rica, was formed in 1945 and traded under that name until 2013 when it was acquired by Avianca de Colombia, along with its strategic partner TACA of El Salvador. Becoming a member of the Avianca Group, it changed its name to Avianca Costa Rica SA, flying in the full colors of the parent with only the Costa Rican flag next to the registration marks indicating its identity.
Although the LACSA brand has disappeared formally, the Avianca group keeps its heritage alive with one of its current Airbus A320s wearing a hybrid livery, sporting both the current Avianca brand name and LACSA's former marks.

Russia's Aviation Is Plagued With Accidents - Sanctions Do Work - Technology Org
Russia may say that the sanctions imposed by the Western world and many other countries are not affecting its economy, but there are signs that Russia is suffering. For example, there seems to be a noticeable increase in accidents in passenger aviation, seemingly caused by maintenance issues and other technical problems. Russian aviation is compressed under an impressive weight of sanctions.

Western countries do not allow their companies to export aeroplane parts and aircraft maintenance services to Russia. This, of course, is a response to the invasion of Ukraine launched by Russia on February 24, 2022.
Russia has accumulated some parts in its warehouses, some spare parts they can get by dismantling old planes, some they import through secret channels or acquire by servicing their planes in other countries that ignore the sanctions. But the fact is that Russian aviation is clearly suffering from increasingly poorly maintained planes.
The Wall Street Journal reports that economic sanctions are strangling Russia so badly that they are causing a large increase in accidents in the aviation sector. These are not necessarily fatal accidents, of course, but planes just keep breaking down. And some of those accidents are quite bad.
For example,  On 12 September 2023, the Airbus A320-214 or Ural Airlines had to perform an emergency landing in a field, because it experienced a hydraulic failure and couldn’t even close the landing gear door. It tried to reach another airport, but ran out of fuel, due to the increased air resistance flying with the open landing gear door.
The airline denied that this accident was somehow related to sanctions or uncertified parts, but this is still one of the versions about what happened there. And it was far from the only aviation accident in Russia in 2023.

In 2022, 36 accidents occurred in Russian aviation. In 2023, this number reached 74. In these statistics, by the way, only those accidents that affect aircraft capable of carrying at least 19 passengers are included. The smallest aeroplanes are not counted, even though they should also suffer from shortages. This deterioration in aviation safety is attributed to poorer aircraft maintenance and bad-quality parts, so the situation is likely to worsen over time.
More than two-thirds of Russia’s passenger aircraft fleet consists of Boeing and Airbus planes. They are quite popular in the entire world and Russia could try getting their parts through unofficial channels.
However, the required amount of parts is quite large and ensuring the quality of service is now a difficult task for Russia. Putin’s plan is to increase production of domestic airliners, but those also heavily rely on Western tech and the increase in production is not going to be sudden. It will be interesting to see what Russia’s aviation safety stats will look like at the end of 2024.

airsLLide No. 18810: G-VKID, Airbus A320-214, Virgin Sun, Corfu, June 19, 2000.
Another reminiscense from the days when the concept of «an airline within an airline» was at its peak. In spring 1998, Trans-Atlantic low-cost pioneer Virgin Atlantic Airways formed the in-house subsidiary Virgin Sun and used the brand in an attempt to enter the highly competitive, and always re-consolidating British market for leisure flights and IT holidays.
G-VKID, appropriatedly named «Sundance Kid», was one of three Airbus A320s the carrier used on flights to the Mediterranean and to the Canary Islands. They were supplemented by two Airbus A321s. Brightly colored Virgin Sun ceased trading in fall 2001.

US Airways Flight 1549
10 years ago, on the 15th January of 2009, the Miracle on the Hudson happened. Struck by a flock of geese, the Airbus A320-214 lost all engine power about 3 minutes after takeoff from New York City´s LaGuardia Airport. With only around 975 meter (3200 foot) in the air they were unable to reach any airport. Pilots Chesley Burnett “Sully” Sullenberger III and Jeffrey B. Skiles  glided the plane to a ditching in the Hudson River. All 155 people aboard could be rescued with only few serius injuries.
Tumblr media
So thank you to the crew, Chesley B. Sullenberger, Jeffrey B. Skiles, Donna Dent, Sheila Dail, Doreen Welsh, to the ferry, the Tugboats, the fireboat  John D. McKean and the ambulances from the New York City Fire Department, the boats and helicopters from the coastguard and the New York City Police Department for saving everyone.
