God, watching a Mayday episode and a pilot, who luckily survived his plane going out of control, said, "At one point, I told my first officer to look out the window and find a dark spot - we didn't want to hit a neighborhood."
To stare death in the face, to have the same thing happen to you that took down two airplanes, killing everyone in them, and still go "I don't want to die, but if I have to, I am taking as few people with me as possible."
#mayday#air crash investigations#thistale watches#honestly pilots deserve so much credit#mayday tells so many stories of pilots who fought to their last breath to save their passengers#and the stories of pilots who were willing to do that but luckily didn't have to

Looks like the airline industry is hard at work coming up with the plots for new episodes of Mayday/Air Crash Investigations. 😒

watching air crash investigations
Narrator calmly explaining “The pilots have lost what is referred to as ‘situational awareness’.”
60 seconds before hitting a mountain.
#air crash investigations#some episodes of air crash investigations are like 6 unrelated things go wrong but if one of them hadn’t everything would have been fine#some are like “fuckjhhfning stop overworking your maintenance workers!!”#But this one really just boils down to “the pilots werent paying attention to where their plane was going” yikes x_x#mmnmmq.txt

From having seen every episode of Air Crash Investigation and having a bad habit of reading ATSB reports while I should be doing other things, I have determined that there are 5 distinct types of aircraft accident:
1. What the hell is "CRM" and why am I not allowed to grope the flight attendant
2. The Sky Machine Is Trying To Kill Me, However, I Am Greater Than God (uplifting)
3. What do you mean "the appropriate response to a stall isn't to pull up?"
4. The Spong Dingler™, a part which is made by imps and only exists to ensure that the seatbelt light goes 'ding', has failed. You must now die
5. Capitalism

"Mayday: Air Crash Investigation" is the best source of hot beefy daddies. More than 20 seasons, and at least one gorgeous beefy daddy in every episode, lots of hot beefy pilots in uniforms.
This is Judah Katz, one of my favorites. You can find episodes on Dailymotion and youtube, so try them. HOT HOT HOT!

Sokka: Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress.
Suki: Okay Toph, let's begin the engine restart drill, ready?
Toph: (accidentally breaks her oxygen mask) Uh, was this supposed to do something?
Sokka: ...Yes...

seriously tho The Crash Detectives by Christine Negroni is my favourite book & i think everyone who ever had a hot take about Malaysian Airlines 370 should read it
#most of what you find about Malaysian 370 is racist bullshit or conspiracy theories about hijackings or shit like that#this is a whole book exploring the possibilities of how that plane likely vanished#it pulls in real historical examples of each possibility (political hijackings technical failures etc) to build a strong thesis#if you like any type of air crash investigation show or video this puts them all to shame

Me: mmm no can't write that, makes no sense for a character to get in two plane crashes even if the first is a small airplane
Me: *a day later watching mayday real life stories*
Air crash survivor interview: we went up in a small airplane my dad bought and crashed into the bay, took me awhile to get back on the horse so to speak, but you know whats the chances of being in two air crashes?" *plane crashes on take off*
Me: ..... I'm so sorry my main character looks like two crashes are in store for you
#may day#mayday#air crash investigation#oc#writing#realism i usually dont care about#but two crashes seemed like way too much#then this

Watching a Mayday episode - I know something is going to go wrong, it's a fucking Mayday episode, and they mentioned turning Engine #3 off because they were waiting on the taxi way, and then they got moved up the priority line to go and now I'm sitting here like "Did you turn Engine #3 back on? Engine? Engine? Engine?"
#thistale watches#mayday air investigations#mentioning turning the engine back off could be a red herring#but it also could be they crashed because they attempted takeoff without all of the engines

Mayday Air Crash Investigations is a great writing tool if you’re autistic trying to grasp neurotypical behavior, because sometimes engineering is the problem and sometimes it’s human error, but sometimes it is the wasp nest and the pitot tube, and the pitot tube is a great metaphor for explaining to a shrink that you can not pick up the vibe and are flying by ear in an incorrect artificial horror, and also the horrors

I have been watching Air Crash Investigations for years. I love it, particularly I like the no-nonsense narrator. TIL that the man narrating one of my favourite docuseries is also this guy:
And now all I can think is:
#air crash investigation#anderson#bbc sherlock#this might have just ruined one of my favourite shows#i can't unhear it

the hyperfixation on aircraft disasters has me considering the realities of the batplane
#batman#the average person does not understand the importance of air traffic control#shit we used to have people flying into each other constantly because our best bet was ‘just see the other plane and don’t fly into them’#either the bat plane is communicating with atc or they have the worlds best anti collision technology#like for cruising just hand wave it that batman has made a plane that can go higher than any other plane that makes sense to me#but take offs and landings?#nah#yknow media always shows it just sort of setting down space ship style#(sci fi spaceships to be clear)#but most jets require miles of runway just to get into the air?#you can’t just do that in the middle of gotham#i’m not saying it’s impossible btw i’m actually interested in how that would work#also imagining ntsb investigating the bat plane crashing#local tin kicker: what in the goddamn—
