Okay I know I said I'd send a mile-long ask about Histrionic Error sometime after I finished my post analyzing Covert Narcissist Cross, but at the time I forgot this blog is a side blog and I can't send asks from it. I would use my main instead and clarify this is the same guy yapping to you, but I don't feel like it.

A reblog might be more convenient for you anyway, we'll see.

I have much different headcanons for Error. Before I came across your version of the little bastard, my headcanons for him, that being based on the canon Error from askerrorsans, was that he's a Cluster A disaster (Paranoid, Schizoid, Schizotypal) with traits of BPD. But upon closer inspection of Histrionic Personality Disorder based on your version of Error, I've had to rearrange and rethink my approach and prior conclusion.

There have been theories about what exactly Error suffers from, for reference. This is one of the oldest, reblogged by CrayonQueen herself. Very thorough, but I can't say I agree with every symptom and diagnosis listed. I just can't vibe with the idea that yet another mass fucking murderer has Schizophrenia. I've seen other headcanons where Error is a Covert Malignant Narcissist (BPD + ASPD + NPD), and I dislike that for the same reasons. I'm tired of it only being murderers and abusers being headcanoned with some of the most stigmatized mental illnesses.

Here's the thing, and this may or may not apply to your variant of Error and that's fine, I'd just like to rant about this real quick.

The idea that Error in general seeks out attention is a concept that might have been introduced by Underverse, when Error showed up in that one Outertale genocide timeline to ask Nightmare where the fuck Ink went and Nightmare asked him "Are you looking for attention again?". I don't recall an older source, so that's the one I'm defaulting to.

That's a fun idea, that Error seeks out specific people for attention. Unfortunately this wasn't a thing with the original variation of Error, who was more than happy to isolate and compliment himself. He appreciated attention from Tumblr Users, but it was evident his sense of self-esteem was not dependent on them. Heck, one could say he prefers his own company over that of other people's in general, because even following positive or somewhat positive encounters with others, both characters like Blueberry and Tumblr Users alike, it would quickly be followed up by paranoid suspicion that he was going to be taken advantage of and/or manipulated. This is where my primary headcanons for Error come in, mainly that he's got Paranoid and Schizotypal Personality Disorders, which greatly interfere with how he interacts with others and where his delusions and fears of losing agency or control come from. The isolation and lack of much care or interest in others is where the Schizoid traits come in.

There's also the fact he acts very different depending on where he is. The Anti-Void is his safespace. It is the dimension where he harbors the most control over himself and others, and that is why he's the most relaxed, so to speak. Outside the Anti-Void though, he's guarded and on the attack. He is on a mission either to destroy a reality with no mercy in mind or he wants to go to Outertale and not be bothered.

However, your Error is clearly meant to be different, and he intrigues me. I said before that I have a special interest in personality disorders, and just before I saw your posts about some of your boys being Cluster B (we share a braincell in Ink having ASPD, I am so happy about that), I was going to lose my mind from a complete lack of Histrionic acknowledgement. I was just about to add traits of HPD to my version of Error just for the fuck of it, so in a way you have both inspired me further and saved my last quarter of a marble.

Now, I haven't seen everything about your Error, but from what art I have seen, he's a total bitch <3. He's fuckin hilarious, I like him.

Here's the thing. Because I don't know everything about your Error that you have shared on your blog thus far, I am not gonna make accurate observations about how HPD fits with him. What I do know is he seeks attention, especially from what I assume would be Ink and Geno (based on your previous asks and art), who may serve as his "Attention People" (ATP is the shorthand), and if he's anything like Underverse's Error, he'll go absolutely hogwild if he needs their attention and can't fucking find them to save his life.

Note how this list of diagnostic criteria cites sexual and/or provocative behavior as a quite common variation of behavior Histrionics use to attract attention, implying that many Histrionics have been sexually abused in some way. This may or may not apply to your version of Error, I don't know, and I'm not going to assume that's the case. Here's a source that doesn't cite implications of sexual abuse as much in HPD criteria.

There are Histrionics who have not suffered sexual abuse and they seek attention through other means, expressing themselves in whatever way that's loud and extreme enough to get the attention they desire.

Just like with BPD and NPD, which I have talked about around five, six days ago? For a patient to be diagnosed with HPD, they need to experience at least 5 of the diagnostic criteria presented. With your Error, again from what I am aware of, he matches with 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. That's six of the criterion. Could be more, could be less.

He feels very intensely and expresses it in impressionable and extreme manners, his mood swings are off the fucking shits, he's always admiring his appearance and seeks validation for that, is ridiculously dramatic and theatrical whenever he feels wronged or is recounting events where he felt cheated, and is gullible and easily led on to think or feel something about a subject that he previously had no reason to have a differing opinion for or an opinion at all on.

Would you say this is accurate or semi-accurate to your interpretation so far? I wanna know more. Histrionic Error scratches my brain in a way I need more of.

okay so, a lot is being said about all the shitty changes on tumblr lately. i've avoided many of these changes by downgrading to older versions of the tumblr app on android. however, there's one drawback i've faced: if you go back too far, you lose polls, one of the only good new features. so i decided to experiment version-by-version to see when certain desirable or undesirable features were added to the apk. unfortunately there's no version with polls but without tumblr live. i've compiled the detailed results here, in order of most recent version number

NOTE: to get old versions of tumblr, use apkmirror.com, which is a trustworthy, reputable source for .apk files, android's package installers. to downgrade your app you need to uninstall it and install an older apk (not necessary for upgrading to a higher version). a list of available apks for tumblr can be found here

note: if you don't have an ad/tracker blocker on your phone, I'd recommend Blokada 5 (not 6)

again, disappointingly there isn't a version with polls but without tumblr live. if you want to see a poll you'll either have to share a post containing a poll to a web browser, or just use 27.8.0.109 (or slightly newer) and deal with snoozing tumblr live and having the live button on the navbar, but at least you get the old media viewer and can go up reblog chains again

sometime after the most recent version i tested, the new media player was also added. if anyone wants to test for the last version with the old media player, i can add that to the list as well added :)

if you want a version of the tumblr app with polls that doesn't have live, someone would probably have to mod the apk. i don't know how to do that, but there's modded versions of many popular apps out there, so maybe someone can try and see if that's possible for tumblr. otherwise just keep complaining about the shittiness and maybe staff will go back on the bad changes, though i wouldn't hold my breath on that

oh and if you're on iOS idk what to tell you, you probably have to jailbreak it to downgrade an app

hi! uhhh i'm probably the worst person to ask this about oh no fjskds but i'll try my best?

i say i'm the worst person to ask because generally speaking i'm more of a book person for dmbj, as in once i started reading the books some of the adaptations felt like they went from a little lukewarm if fun to this is committing multiple crimes by comparison so i always recommend the books over everything else, but i'm also in the minority in the english-speaking part of the fandom that tends to favor the adaptations so heads up for that. not that that should stop you from watching them if you want to!

which adaptation i'd recommend watching next i feel depends on what you're looking for and where you're coming at them from. reboot/the sound of providence is "good" if you're looking for something understandable as a stand alone thing for example, but it has other issues. in general i think the best approach to the dmbj dramas is exceptions (very rare) aside, it's best not to try and judge them as faithful adaptations, and as long as you don't do that some of them are enjoyable on their own

ultimate note is probably my favorite in terms of the dramas because for the most part it follows the books it's adapting, and even when it tweaks characterization or introduces characters earlier than in book canon, it never does it in jarring ways, and the pacing is also good. it also has gratuitous pingxie (and heihua) it has a special place for me djskds. this one is free on youtube that i know

sand sea (or tomb of the sea) is another good choice even if it's a little bit of an unconventional one. it does have some down sides like the pacing (that's a general issue with dmbj dramas to be fair), some subplots that drag and aren't always that interesting depending on who you ask, and the fact that like its book counterpart, wu xie isn't the main character so he gives center stage to someone else. it's interesting for the vibe alone and wu xie's very specific mindset at this point in canon, and it's understandable as a standalone thing, but it's also very much apart from the rest of dmbj as a whole. this one is also free on youtube

lost tomb 1 (not sure if this one is on youtube but tempted to say yes?) is only good if what you want is to start from the very beginning if you know nothing about the story, but besides that's it's kinda mid? it's ok but it's a but bland. lost tomb 2 is a little similar to me in that it's better (and i do like this drama's version of pangzi) but it drags a lot and makes some weird choices among other things in my opinion

i'm not gonna personally recommend either lost tomb 2.5 (which should be explore with the note? the one where they go to changbai mountain) or tibetan sea flower because those two have committed too many crimes to me personally, but if you want to try them feel free!

for other adaptations, the qinling bronze tree donghua is actually really nice. it's basically the book it's adapting ad verbatim with an added twist at the end that's still plausible, so you get book wu xie flavor which is always nice

plugging the books again because i'm annoying like that but to be fair by comparison to the adaptations they're more of a time investment so i understand why people would find getting into them daunting or not worth it if you aren't hardcore into dmbj

5. Favourite movie/tv show to gif? dbh is my main fandom so yeah, dbh but more specifically, Markus. I just love giffing him, it's almost therapeutic at this stage.

13. Where and/or from whom did you learn to gif? I'm mostly self-taught but I have relied on a few tutorials here and there.

17. How many gifs do you prefer in a set? I guess 2? That's how many I usually make in a set, so that must be my preference. I do like a 4 set too though.

19. What I'd my giffing process like? Very on the fly, lol. I check to see if I have the footage I want, if I don't I screen record the scene I need. I upload that into ps, trim the clip to what I need, change the speed and crop. Then I brighten and colour them to whatever I'm feeling at the time. I always sharpen last. It's what takes the longest and I sometimes have to finick with the settings a bit until it looks nice on tumblr.

23. What's the thing you gif when you don't have anything else to gif? Take a wild guess. It's my boy ofc

29. Have you ever posted a set, realised you made a mistake later but realised it was too late? Oh yes many a time. Usually on sets with text and I made a typo. That's happens pretty often 😅 I usually go back and fix them anyway but then the old versions still get reblogged lol

31. Do you schedule/queue posts or do you post as soon as you're done? I usually post when I'm done. If I'm not really happy with a set, I'll save them to drafts and look at them later. If I decide they're actually OK, I'll post them, if not, I redo them. But I don't schedule posts, I'm too impatient.

37. What sets do you have planned to make in the future? There are a few sets I'm waiting to do when my skills catch up to my visions. But right now? There's a quote gifset I want to make with Markus but it will require time I just don't have right now.

41. Least favourite part of the gifmaking process? Oh my god, uploading to tumblr. I never really know what gifs are going to look good. Sometimes I'll spend ages on a set, upload to tumblr and it look like ass, so I have to redo the whole thing. It's infuriating.

43. Do you keep videos or delete them once you're done giffing? I keep them unless I need the space. I'm pretty lazy like that hahaha

47. Any advice for novice gif makers/people who want to start making gifs? Gif tutorials are your friend. I'm mostly self-taught but whenever I get really stuck, I search for gif tutorials. They are incredibly helpful.

As content as I'd be to reblog things forever, I do draw and I do need things… soooo, drawing instead of ebegging because crushing guilt either way and using my one chosen defining skill to feel useful? To be honest and fair, I just need at least $25-30 to get past instafart's bs, but I could also do so much more if my chronically ill butt just… tried? I have self-trust issues, don't @ me… Also, I'm not starving; I need sundries. 🤷🏾

Detailed backgrounds, extra characters, and/or designs will cost extra; about +10-15 each depending on my spoons at the moment.

One-page comics are... doable, but not a thing I plan to do often, at BnW or Full Color price + $40. Comics are hard, even short ones.

One of observant mind will notice that one of the examples is traditional. DO please specify if you'd prefer traditional or digital. If not, I'm gonna randomly do one, the other, or a mixture (It's the same effort for me, either way.)

There will be times where I will NOT be able to sit up and work. I will either edit this message, or make another one with said announcement on it and pin it. An then subsequently edit or make another message again to announce that I'm well again. So goes the conditions of having a corporal body; sometimes you get stuck with a shitty one.

I plan on taking breaks. They will be announced similarly. Because breaks are good for you.

The ability to say 'no' is always at my discretion. I'm willing to try things; I am NOT willing to be uncomfortable.

I have more examples if you're curious, just nothing recent or that I personally feel represents me as an artist at the moment... It's complicated...

What type of commission you'd like - b&w/color, portrait/half body/full body, how many characters, etc. references of the character(s) - if you don't have an image of them drawn out in their entirety, please provide picture references of all their parts (hair, face, clothes, colors, etc.)... You have a reference sheet? Even better!

What you want to see - what pose do you want your character(s) to be in? what expressions? what is the vibe you want conveyed? is there something you want to focus on in particular (e.g. a character's ring, a scar, a limb, etc.)

Are you okay with your commission being public? - you will get a higher-res, un-watermarked version of your commission and the project files (Krita, FireAlpaca, or GIMP... I tend to jump around). I do intend to put lower-res, watermarked versions of my commissions up on my blog / portfolio, so please let me know if you would like it to be a private commission.

You'll receive a reply within 3-4 days, at which point we can talk a little bit more about your commission if needed!

Welcome and thank you in advance!! As I say every year (or every-other-year when I partcipate) these are just some thoughts, but feel free to focus on different characters/storylines/etc. I'm excited to see anything you're inspired to make from the sources below!

If you're checking out any of these sources for the first time, content warning for some blood/gore in Renfield (played for comedy) and blood, jumpscares, animal death in Midnight Mass.

Film (Safety)

Renfield (2023) - Listen. Cinema peaked when Robert Montague Renfield decorated his little apartment in bright '70s colors and kitty cat bedsheets to Lizzo, and then peaked a second time when Ben Schwartz snorted a centipede. This movie is bloody camp nonsense but somehow also an earnest abuse recovery/revenge fantasy, and it gave me Emotions and a crush on Nicholas Hoult. His giant sad eyes and self-empowerment arc mean the world to me.

Television

Abbott Elementary - Wholesome sitcom in the vein of Parks & Rec following teachers in a Philadelphia elementary school (as a child of two public school teachers it hits close to my heart). I'd kinda like to see an Ava vid, she's so entertainingly terrible but then has great moments of growth as well. Or one centered on Janine, Janine/Gregory, or just any kind of fun ensemble thing!

The Afterparty - Murder mystery comedy with the twist that each episode, a character gives their version of events in the style of different genre parodies. Honestly I'd be fine with just a season 1 vid because I liked it more than season 2. (With the exception of S2 giving me the Sapphic Wes Anderson Movie of my dreams.) S1 had just about a perfect ensemble (Yasper being a highlight) and great execution of the Rashomon-style premise.

The Bear - Drama/dramedy set in the chaotic back-of-house world of a Chicago restaurant. I love how real the environment, relationships, and characters of this show feel. I adore Ayo Edebiri so I'd especially like a vid centered on Sydney, her ambitions and anxiety and passion, but again anything that inspires you about the show would make me happy! I love everyone in this dysfunctional restaurant fam. I don't really ship Syd with Carmy so I'd prefer not an explicitly romancey vid.

Midnight Mass - There's a venn diagram between Catholic Trauma and Vampires that Mike Flanagan seemed to crack like nobody else ever has lol. After Hill House (which I got an incredible vid for a couple years ago) this is my favorite of his horror-drama miniseries, I really love the mood and themes it explores about faith/religion a source of both comfort and harm. Pretty much a "do whatever you want with this source" request!

Web Series/Internet Content

Dimension 20 - There's a lot of source here and even I haven't made it through all the older intrepid heroes campaigns yet (not to mention all the side quests). I've basically seen everything from A Court of Fey and Flowers onward. Favorites include Neverafter, A Crown of Candy, and I'm really enjoying the current Burrow's End series. But honestly if there's any season or mini-season or general vibe YOU especially love and would like to focus on, feel free to do so! And if you want to incorporate stuff like art, minis, fan sources, or just rely on the player dynamics, go for it. I love basically everybody but special shout-out to Lou Wilson.

Amaury Guichon (the chocolate guy) (Youtube/Tiktok/he also had a Netflix show) - Guichon is a French-Swiss pastry chef known for making elaborate, edible chocolate sculptures, and posting usually wordless montage videos of his process. I'm just kinda curious what a Chocolate Guy vid would look like! Watching his videos and the work that goes into each piece is so fascinating, and he has a really charming and pleasant vibe. Love the technical skill, the commitment to the bit, and the fact they often look like they taste good on top of it!

for the hair question, i don't have a preference. natural would be my preference but between the two, it changes depending on the day. i adore an oversized hoodie but wearing a crop top under an oversized hoodie has to be my favourite combination so i say both. funnily enough, i've wanted to learn bsl again but haven't gotten round to it. don't mind doing the dishes, it's the dishwasher i hate. would sm rather do the laundry. heels bc i don't wear them often enough, adore a good heeled tall boot. books/movies is a tough one. i'd say both but if i had to choose... movies. i'm nearly always overdressed, even when it's a casual outfit, it's a talent of mine. dancer but only because i cannot dance. i prefer spicy food and since that's not an option, i'll have to say neither. and i prefer slightly yellow lighting.

This post is fucking hilarious because these are insanely misleading and completely ignore user feedback in order to construct a gotcha.

So let's break it all down then!

Its a standard feature of a blogging platform. Tumblr DID not invent blogging.

3rd standard blogging feature. Any more standard feature expected from a blogging platform you wanna name?

The only premium upgrade Tumblr has is a paid ad-blocker. The announcement post for it is dated Feb 24, 2022, meanwhile the announcement post for Twitter Blue is dated Jun 3, 2021. That's 265 days before Tumblr introduced it. (In other words, this statement is a lie)

You both copied tabs from TikTok. You do not get credit for this. Its one of the most complained things yall introduced because it was a blatant attempt to be TikTok.

What was first on WordPress does not count since the topic here is Tumblr. Polls were on Twitter long before Automattic owned Tumblr, and the feature here on Tumblr isn't even a year old. I remember this very vividly because in August 2022, we had to host a Tumblr Sexyman poll on Twitter because this site didn't have a feature.

This is the only thing Tumblr excels at. The search function is probably the best one remaining on the internet even with its flaws.

This point is completely redundant. The threat is supposedly about features Twitter copied off Tumblr. None of these features are on Twitter and serves no purpose being on this list. However, its extremely bad that yall are using custom themes and domains as a way to flex, when your new redesign is actively trying its hardest to phase out the personal site side of Tumblr, to the point where you can no longer even access custom pages feature from mobile (or even desktop, if you aren't fluent in Tumblr and know all the extra buttons you gotta click to open it because the site prioritizes the tumblr.com/username pages over username.tumblr.com, and there's no way to opt out of the former).

And the 4th standard blogging feature. God, remember when we could edit other people's responses? Or completely remove unnecessary comments like the parts of a reblog chain? (or speaking of that specifically, how yall removed the feature to go back in the reblog chain and reblog versions of the post without that comment)

I don't even hate that yall are trying out new things, trial and error and all that. Whatever keeps the site functional in a long run. But this being a response to criticism just isn't it. Its not a competition of who did it first, its about who has a better functional site. The only thing yall are competing in with this attitude is whose site will get shut down first. Every lil bit of feedback is valueable, even the crazy loud ones, because all of them draw their opinions from their love for this site.

And the new layout just ain't it. A lot of people make amazing points about why, and they're all right. It's something that makes Twitter feel bad and bloated, and now it also makes Tumblr feel bloated too. Probably a bad idea to do a massive redesign before hiring designers though. I'd recommend listening to the massive amounts of feedback, find a proper designer (please no ex-Twitter or ex-Meta staff), stop pretending Twitter is copying you because you copied it off TikTok first, and stop copying bad features from sites and instead embrace the things that make Tumblr stand out. I promise you, TikTok users will never adapt to Tumblr because they're on TikTok for short video format, not blogging format and gifsets.

Long posts, which were on Tumblr first.

Mixing text and rich media, which Tumblr did first.

If we go way back, supporting images and embedding media in the first place, which Twitter didn't used to do. (Remember twimg and Photobucket?)

A premium upgrade, which we did on Tumblr first.

They copied our tabs.

Polls, which were on WP.com/Jetpack first.

Subscriptions to individual creators, which we did first with Post+.

Tags existed on Tumblr first.

We have Asks! And custom domains! And custom themes!

We supported editing first, you couldn't do that on Twitter until relatively recently.

Now obviously they have 20x the monthly users we do, so have executed better in a number of ways:

Their native ads provide much more targeting.

Per-post metrics.

Lists and communities.

Direct Messaging. (Though theirs is still not great.)

Much more robust and real-time search.

They did livestreaming first.

Their apps and web QA seem more stable. I've never experienced an app crash there.

It's easier to navigate RTs and comment/reply to them than reblogs.

I used to hate hot cross buns, funnily enough XD I was lucky that the only thing I needed to get was some yeast for them, cause a while ago I got a bunch of flour etc...also I'm glad pinning helps! I've literally been a swiftie for like 2 years XD I was so new to it all that when people were talking about Taylor's Version of things I had no idea what they were on about, and was confused by how some versions of some songs sounded different lol. My like...very first song was technically Story Of Us because I found it on an anime amv as a kid and was like D:

But the first one that started making me a swiftie was I think Cruel Summer. I saw a random youtube short about songs from TS that needed music videos and watched it on a whim. From there, got really into the Lover album, then tried Reputation, and then proceeded to listen through every album she had lol.

See I too cannot swim, so breathing underwater would just be me stuck alone at the bottom of the water...bit nightmarish for my liking. If I could swim then I'd love to breathe underwater. But since I cannot I am forced to pick flight as well XD Also I love My Little Pony, and Rainbow Dash is an excellent choice for favourite pony XD

Ah tea easily. Coffee ranges from "bad texture" to "bad taste" to me...! But with tea I always go for herbal tea (usually peppermint or chamomile cause I can get those cheaply). I used to put honey in it, but even if I weren't vegan now I also just got lazy about it. I only used honey for tea, and at some point was like "is it worth the money" and decided no XD What about you?

Another question (my workplace does "question of the day"s and so I have many of these random things): Would you rather be able to master any instrument you wanted to learn, or any sport you wanted to play?

Once again I would love to . All I have are like, earplugs that hurt my ears after a few minutes and headphones that I have to turn up the sound real high to drown out the other noise

Once again I would love to and not just for my autism . Instead of having any aids for those my preferred method of managing myself is to sit completely still on my spinny chair the entire day not talking to anybody unless they ask and the answer is easy, just watch something on my laptop or something, and don't come out unless to eat or go to the bathroom and forget I'm alive if I'm not doing anything atm. If someone wants to talk / some noise disturbs me then I get mad. Typing this out that kinda sounds miserable but also whatever works for me I guess!!

If I understand what sensory seeking/avoidant means well, then I think avoidant. No one touch me, don't speak to me or make any noise (except for like, background noise is fine, I'm too paranoid to stand silence without thinking something is Out to Get Me), don't even be around me ever (though if I'm completely alone then that's also bad and sets of the paranoia I previously mentioned. Just be in another room or something and that's fine), food and clothes are evil

The reason why male tortoiseshells are so uncommon compared to female torties (and whenever you hear of them, it's because they were born with an XXY chromosome or were a chimera) is because of how cat coat colors are inherited. There's two main colors, black (melanin, aka. black, chocolate, cinnamon and their diluted versions, blue/gray, lilac and fawn) and red (pheomelanin, aka. red and its diluted version, cream), if you have both of them at the same time then that makes them a tortoiseshell. Male kittens inherit one color from their mother, for ex. a tortie mom will have male kittens that are either black or red, the color of the father doesn't really matter in this case. Female kittens inherit one color from their mother, and another from their father, so for ex. if a tortie female and a red male had kittens, their female kittens would either be tortie (took black from mom, and red from dad) or red (took red from mom and red from dad), which colors they "roll" is pretty much random and up to chance. That's why male cats cannot be torties unless they're intersex (which would sometimes make them inherit colors like female cats do) or a chimera (aka. two fused embryos, which might have different colors which is how they appear to look like a tortie, even if they technically aren't), because otherwise they can only have one color unlike female cats. I got no idea why people say that red female cats are apparently super rare, I guess they would be if red males were less common too, but I don't think they are uncommon to THAT degree. So yes I do believe that there is slightly less red females, but not that they're such a rarity that it's worth getting fascinated over. There's probably just less red cats in general than black/brown/gray, which also means that red females are gonna be less common in those areas based on how they inherit their fur colors, than males, who would just need one parent to have red. Sorry I'm just really confused over people saying that female ginger cats are special apparently .
