The Story Behind My Nickname: Dee Dee Womp
Whatās the story behind your nickname? Growing up, my grandmother had a special talent for giving out nicknames. Each one of us had a unique moniker that held a story or memory. Mine was āDee Dee Womp.ā This nickname was more than just a quirky name; it encapsulated some of the happiest moments of my childhood. Cheon-Shik Yang: he is a Korean tailor who talks about Hanbok & traditional Korean clothing
Fashion & Culture with Kingsley: focuses a bit more on contemporary African clothing & fashions & geared towards fashion designers, but inspired by traditional African designs (from different countries and cultures, such as Ghana, Ethiopia, & Senegal) and clothing & a bit of historic ones as well.
The Couture Courtesan: mixed race Asian reenactor and historical fashion enthusiast who talks about fashions of various time periods, as early as the Tudor era up to the 1910s.
Eccentrik: Jamaican youtuber with vids focusing on fashion, & in particular either vintage fashion (I believe 1940s-60s), pinup fashion & hair & makeup, or vintage inspired sewing

in my pursuit of ever-increasingly niche comics, I drew a 13 page comic about Tape v Hurley, a court case about Chinese-American school segregation in 1885. The rest of the pages are after the readmore, as well as on AO3 here. More obsure Chinese American court case comics are there, as well.
Historical Notes
Mary and Joseph Tape were not born in America, but their names and identities were very much formed in America. Joseph Tape was born Jeu Dip in Guangdong, China, immigrated the America when he was twelve, and spent his teenage years working as a house servant in an Irish household. Mary arrived in America at the age of eleven, and was found and raised as Mary McGladery in a Protestant orphanage as the only Chinese child amongst ~80 children. Both Mary and Jeu spent their formative years amongst White Christian families, so when Jeu Dip and Mary married in 1875, little wonder that Jeu picked the English name of Joseph Tape -- Joseph to match with Mary, and the German last name Tape as a nod to his former name of Dip.
The Tape family lived about 14 blocks outside of Chinatown, in a primarily white neighborhood. They dressed in Western clothing, spoke English at home, and Mamie grew up playing with non-Chinese kids. Naturally, they wanted their children to attend the local elementary school, a mere 3 blocks from their home. The principal, Ms. Hurley, denied her entrance, claiming that she was āfilthy and diseased.ā At the time, there was no public school option for Chinese children -- the 1870 state law stipulated separate schools for āAfrican and Indian childrenā only, not Chinese. The Tape family, with the help of the Chinese Six Companies, their church, and the Chinese consulate, decided to sue, claiming that the 1880 California school code guaranteed everyone a right to public education and that this was a violation of the 14th Amendment.
They won.
But this was 1885, three years after the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act and six years before Plessy v Ferguson. Regardless of what the California Supreme Court might decide, public sentiment was on the side of the San Francisco school district. Determined to keep out this āinvasion of Mongol barbarismā, the California State Legislature passed a law permitting separate schools for Chinese children, which then allowed Principal Hurley to reject Mamie Tape once more.
While Mamie was rejected from the Spring Valley Elementary School for being Chinese, she also had a hard time fitting in to the Chinese public school. The Chinese merchants saw Western education as something primarily for boys. (Their girl children learned from their mothers at home.) Mamie, a girl dressed in Western clothes, would have stood out like a sore thumb. The final panel of the comic was based on a photo from three years later, and even then, Mamie was the only girl.
Places where I fudged the history: Frank, Mamieās younger brother, was actually six years old and should have been more present in the comic, but I wante to keep the focus on Mamie and Mary. Also, Mamie had actually shown up to her first day of school in Western clothes. An earlier draft of the comic had a separate arc involving Mamie feeling rejected at school and Mary buying her some Chinese clothes, but that got too long and complicated.
Much of this was drawn from Mae Ngaiās book about the Tape family and their experiences as 2nd and 3rd generation Chinese Americans, titled āThe Lucky Ones.ā
----------
Here is Mary Tape's letter to the San Francisco School Board, 1885:
1769 Green Street. San Francisco, April 8, 1885. To the Board of Education - Dear Sirs: I see that you are going to make all sorts of excuses to keep my child out off the Public schools. Dear sirs, Will you please to tell me! Is it a disgrace to be Born a Chinese? Didnāt God make us all!!! What right have you to bar my children out of the school because she is a chinese Decend. They is no other worldly reason that you could keep her out, except that. I suppose, you all goes to churches on Sundays! Do you call that a Christian act to compell my little children to go so far to a school that is made in purpose for them. My children donāt dress like the other Chinese. They look just as phunny amongst them as the Chinese dress in Chinese look amongst you Caucasians. Besides, if I had any wish to send them to a chinese school I could have sent them two years ago without going to all this trouble. You have expended a lot of the Public money foolishly, all because ofa one poor little Child. Her playmates is all Caucasians ever since she could toddle around. If she is good enough to play with them! Then is she not good enough to be in the same room and studie with them? You had better come and see for yourselves. See if the Tapeās is not same as other Caucasians, except in features. It seems no matter how a Chinese may live and dress so long as you know they Chinese. Then they are hated as one. There is not any right or justice for them. You have seen my husband and child. You told him it wasnāt Mamie Tape you object to. If it were not Mamie Tape you object to, then why didnāt you let her attend the school nearest her home! Instead of first making one pre tense Then another pretense of some kind to keep her out? It seems to me Mr. Moulder has a grudge against this Eight-year-old Mamie Tape. I know they is no other child I mean Chinese child! care to go to your public Chinese school. May you Mr. Moulder, never be persecuted like the way you have persecuted little Mamie Tape. Mamie Tape will never attend any of the Chinese schools of your making! Never!!! I will let the world see sir What justice there is When it is govern by the Race prejudice men! Just because she is of the Chinese decend, not because she donāt dress like you because she does. Just because she is descended of Chinese parents I guess she is more of a American then a good many of you that is going to prewent her being Educated. Mrs. M. Tape

Juneteenth is a Black American holiday.Ā
We call Juneteenth many things: Black Independence Day, Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, Jubilee Day. We celebrate and honor our ancestors.Ā
December 31 is recognized as Watch Night or Freedomās Eve in Black American churches because it marks the day our enslaved ancestors were awaiting news of their freedom going into 1863. On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. But all of the ancestors wouldnāt be freed until June 19, 1865 for those in Galveston, Texas and even January 23, 1866 for those in New Jersey (the last slave state). (Itās also worth noting that our people under the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations wouldnāt be freed untilĀ April 28, 1866 andĀ June 14, 1866 for those under the Cherokee Nation by way of the Treaties.)
Since 1866, Black Americans in Texas have been commemorating the emancipation of our people by way of reading the Emancipation Proclamation and coming together to have parades, free festivities, and later on pageants. Thereafter, it spread to select states as an annual day of commemoration of our people in our homeland.Ā
Hereās a short silent video filmed during the 1925 Juneteenth celebration in Beaumont, Texas:
youtube
(Itās also worth noting that the Mascogos tribeĀ in Coahuila, Mexico celebrate Juneteenth over there as well. Quick history lesson: A total ofĀ 305,326 Africans were shipped to the US to be enslaved alongside of American Indians who were already or would become enslaved as prisoners of war, as well as those who stayed behind refusing toĀ leave and walk the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. In the United States, you were either enslaved under the English territories, the Dutch, the French, the Spanish, or under the Nations of what would called the FiveĀ āCivilizedāĀ Native American Tribes: Cherokee, Creek (Muscogee), Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminoles.Ā Mascogos descend from the Seminoles who escaped slavery during the Seminole Wars, or the Gullah Wars that lasted for more than 100 years if you will, and then settled at El Nacimiento inĀ 1852.)
We largely wave our red, white and blue flags on Juneteenth. These are the only colors that represent Juneteenth. But sometimes you may see others wave our Black American Heritage flag (red, black, and gold).
Juneteenth is a day of respect.Ā It has nothing to do with Africa, diversity, inclusion, immigration, your Pan-African flag, your cashapps, nor your commerce businesses. It is not a day of āwhat aboutā isms. It is not a day to tap into your inner colonizer and attempt to wipe out our existence. That is ethnocide and anti-Black American. If you canāt attend a Black American (centered) event thatās filled with education on the day, our music, our food and other centered activities because itās not centered around yoursā¦that is a you problem. Respect our day for what and whom it stands for in our homeland.Ā
Juneteenth flag creator: āBoston Benā HaithĀ
It was created in 1997. The red, white and blue colors represent the American flag. The five-point star represents the Lone State (Texas). The white burst around the star represents a nova, the beginning of a new star. The new beginning for Black Americans.Ā
Black American Heritage Flag creators:Ā Melvin CharlesĀ &Ā Gleason T. Jackson
It was created in 1967, our Civil Rights era. The color black represents the ethnic pride for who we are. Red represents the bloodĀ shed for freedom, equality, justice and human dignity. Gold fig wreath represents intellect, prosperity, and peace.Ā The sword represents the strength and authority exhibited by a Black culture that made many contributions to the world in mathematics, art, medicine, and physical science, heralding the contributions that Black Americans would make in these and other fields.Ā
SN: While weāre talking about flags, I should note that Grace Wisher, a 13-year-old free Black girl from Baltimore helped stitched the Star Spangled flag,Ā which would inspire the national anthemĀ during her six years of service toĀ Mary Pickersgill. I aināt even gon hold you. I never looked too far into it, but she prob sewedĀ that whole American flag her damn self. They love lying about history here until you start unearthing them old documents.Ā
In conclusion,Ā Juneteenth is a Black American holiday. Respect us and our ancestors.

Would SKZ date a foreigner? MTL
Most
Chan
Changbin
Jeongin
Felix
Seungmin
Hyunjin
Lee Know
Han
Least
Bangchan
He would. He probably has, and will continue to in the future. He finds a sense of fulfillment in these relationships. Like he probably dates Aussie girls a lot because they remind him of home. If theyāre from far away he has this mentality of āOh, you traveled all this way and your journeys ended with an amazing new relationshipā towards them or something.
Changbin
Definitely. Like Chan, he probably prefers them. I think he thinks of it as an achievement? Because he has to work in those relationships, and theyāre fulfilling. He feels like they both have to make that effort and have that sort of ambition to get there, and learn about each otherās cultures, languages, etc. itās a sign of love. He likes dating foreigners also because they donāt know him as āChangbin of Stray Kidsā, but as this foreign Korean dude they met. (Though I would say there is that aspect of wishing that they did know and appreciate his art if they didnāt.)
Jeongin
He would. He thinks thereās potential and he may get lucky. Iām getting a lot ofā¦Finance indicators here. Iām gonna be so for real, he probably dates old white sugar mommies. Or daddies. Whichever way he swings. Said what I said. Iām also getting thatā¦He loves the money. Heās young, and sure heās rich but who doesnāt want to be wined, dined, and pampered? Heās not big on relationships or commitment as a general rule of thumb since heās busy and working and just living his life and young. But if he does date someone? Might as well get something out of it.
Felix
Felix has no real preference. Though this may be because his terms ofā¦Whatās foreign and whatās not are broader? Is something foreign when the cultures are different? Is it foreign when the countries are different? Is a foreigner someone whoās not Australian or someone whoās not Korean? Thereās a lot of gray area. But generally he doesnāt care where you are. If you can communicate, have things you have in common, and can compromise then hes okay with whatever. Cambodian, Indian, South African, American, Indonesian, whatever it is. As long as their minds and hearts are in the same place.
Seungmin
He doesnāt really seem to care. As long as they have that depth and emotional security heās looking for, itās whatever. Iām getting a direct message of āAs long as I can be happy with them without sacrificing myself.ā So essentially, he truly and honestly doesnāt care as long as theyāre happy together.
Hyunjin
No. I think, practically, he would, he has, and he does. He enjoys learning about cultures and traditions and languages. Foreign partners are the perfect way to mix what he loves most. (This part made me giggle but Iām free styling this shit) Love, sex, and learning. Itās a win win win. Like that one conversation he had with Seungmin. With that being said, back to the no aspect of the tarot. His most recent ex was probably foreign. And that was DISASTROUS. Iām talking hopelessly, everything destroyed, life and mental health in shambles (I keep getting a lot of scratching images? Like scratched up clothes, scratched up skin, scratched up wallpaper. As well as just broken furniture. Possibly physically abusive but thatās just me speculating) so much so he probably threw the entire country theyāre from away. āNever stepping foot there againā type shit. So, in normal circumstances he would, but the ex probably used cultural differences as a crutch. Like, āNo, this isnāt abuse. This is normal in my culture. Itās showing how much I love you.ā And Hyunjin loves love, but not that type of love. But poor little Hyunjin believed it and now heās scared. I put him in the lower middle because he WOULD under normal circumstances but these ARENāT normal circumstances.
Lee Know
Honestly, I donāt think he would. Heās tried, but it hasnāt worked out. Thereās cultural differences, language differences, etc. and thereās also just conflicting values, upbringings, etc. he finds a hard time connecting on those deeper levels because they lack a lot of shared experiences they wouldāve otherwise had, even down to cuisine. He steers clear of dating foreigners.
Han
Another no. Another who has and didnāt like the experience. Honestly this mightāve been because of in-laws. The cultural differences stressed him out and I think heās said he has social anxiety before anyways? Correct me if Iām wrong but I heard it somewhere. Canāt remember there. But he gets really restless and feels like his skin is peeling and crawling and wants to fucking die when he has to meet the in laws. He doesnāt know what to wear, how to act, what to bring, what to do, how to talk (If he even knows the language). It just stressed him out. And honestly, itās probably the same vice versa. Also, he mightāve dated an American. And American girls are much moreā¦Open with the opposite sex than Korean girls are. And because of that it stressed him out because he got insecure and over thought everything but also didnāt want to be overbearing because he knew it was a cultural thing. Soā¦

STRAWHATS FAMILY AU
The Lore Drop:
Alright,in this alternative universe the whole gang is a family. Robin and Franky are married and they are the parents. Brook is Frankyās adoptive father. Jinbei is Robinās biological father. Brook is African (Nigerian (Bantoid))American and he was never married. Franky is caucasian, his roots comes from Turkiye. Jinbei is Indian, he married Olvia, she is Brazilian. So Robin is half Indian half Brazilian.
Only Luffy and Chopper are Frobinās biological children.
When Robin and Franky got married, they had realised that they are rich enough to set on a quest to help the children of need so they went to see the world. HEAR ME OUT it makes sense because um Jinbei is a very respected doctor and Brook is a renowned musician; Franky own a ship/boat/cruise fix company and Robin is a doctor in the archeology field š they are rich rich
First, Luffy was born. And their first destination was Japan. That is where they adopted Zoro. He was in Juvenile. They sorted out things and adopted this child to save him. Cause he was innocent. Luffy was 6 and Zoro was 10 when this happened. (I know the punishment age range is after 14 in Japan but the crime they were accusing him of was so severe or something that they had to, like you should know Iām just making shit up leave me alone)
After a few months they go to Finland. That is where they adopt Nami. A Swedish girl who was in the hands of a gun mafia that killed her sister and mother. She was 9. So they fight fight and get her.
The new year comes, and they decide to go to Mozambique. That is where they meet Usopp! When Franky and Zoro was walking through streets with full of shops and all, they run into Usopp (same age as Luffy) who was selling things he built. Usoppās father Yasopp left their home when he was born, and her mother dies of sickness. The social workers does not give shÅt about the poor. Franky sees this spark in him. He and Zoro buys things from him. And at the end of the day Franky asks if he wants a family they can be one to him. Usopp refuses because of his sick friend Kaya. Saying that he cannot leave her. Later in the week, yk the drill they show everyone that Kuro is bad person blah blah, they both save Kaya and Usopp. Usopp accepts to be part of their family.
They make BIG AHH turn and go to France. They drop at some seaside town. Such a nice touristic place. But so many shop owners with rent complaints. The mayor of this town goes againts its countryās law and increases the rents per SECOND. They dig down this mystery by accident and find out that the mayor is a evil motherfrucker scientist. He also has a son , Sanji (10 yo), whose very much so sweet. They want to fight the scientist but the country is actually supporting him. Since his products and the stuff he does supports the economy or something. So they technically kidnap Sanji. But Sanji needs it. With Frankyās relations they get him a fake id and all that. But they promise that ona day they will have enough power to defeat him. Sanji is happy.
The next destination is Canada. That is exactly where Franky and Robin decides to make another child š
After that they go to Egypt. They come across an organisation that Robin did her internship, the one that ran by Sir Crocodile. They find a lost child named Vivi. Vivi is an 8 year old who is getting used by Crocodile. They save her, save the country, yay! Allthough Vivi was a part of their family for a quite time after they learned that Vivi was a princess, they help her to meet her father. The Strawhats leave Egypt and promise eachother that they will meet again.
After 9 months Chopper is born. And the family is complete for now. But they are still in a quest to help children. Or to collect them lol. After a while the grandpas also join their quest. And yeah thats it. I would binge read it if someone makes a fanfic about it.

what I realistically think op characters ethnicities are
-Luffy: indigenous Brazilian (with a slight Portuguese and African mix in there)
-nami: Saami (native people of northern Scandinavia) this makes a lot of sense to me since many Sami people were tragically murdered (like namis parents) and had there children taken away. to put this into simple terms, namis parents were killed and then nami became and orphan and grew up on an Aegean island (agriculture similar to cocoyasi village)
zoro: Mongolian (got really lost as a child and ended up in Japan)
usopp: south Sudanese but grew up in South Africa(because thereās a lot of Dutch settlers there due to colonization and there were a lot of white people in syrup village)
sanji: half german half Syrian, Germa was based off Germany but sanji does use arabic words and makes āsimsim creamā (sims in means sesame in Arabic) he was born in Germany but ran away and ended up in northern France (in my heart heās 100% Albanian but this is supposed to be realistic not hcs)
Robin: native Siberian specifically nenet, similar to what I said about the Sami and nami earlier, many siberians went though genocide just like in robins backstory and how all her people were whipped out. (Robins also has a very Siberian/turkic look in my opinion coming from a š°šæ girl)
Franky: Dominican that grew up in north eastern America
brook: African American from Louisiana (I canāt really explain this one it just feels right) (also brooks love for music and a lot of music types came from black Americans)
Jinbe: Indian Fijian (this one is also hard to explain it just feels so right)
extra ->
law: Sinti Romani (a big group of Romanis mainly located in Germany) btw this one is mainly due to looks bcz thereās no way in hell law is a white German lmaoo that boy is BROWN

Interview with @black-new-world-academy pt6
I would 100% recommend doing your research.
I'm not here to gatekeep. You sexy fucks can jerk off to whatever you want. But there is stuff out there that might look BNWO positive, that when you think about it really isn't.
I'm talking about the black Muslim immigrant stuff.
Pictures on this theme often cast the non-white people in them as a low-born, dirty, slavering horde non-consensually violating the clean, upper-class white women. Sometimes they show a black guy that has just clearly lucked out, but the inference is usually that he is a chancer, he is laughing at you, and that he is of lower social class and status than you š«µš¾ the white guy jerking off over it.
However technically skillful they are done, the output is BNWO negative. They objectify the women and group black people, Muslims and immigrants into one big jealous 'watermelon smile' monoculture out to violently ruin and subjugate white women.
I don't recognise myself in that and I don't trust the motivations.
So think about what you're engaging with before you go too far down that rabbit hole. And definitely think about it before you bring it to me. You won't get the reaction you're hoping for.
As well as black not being the same as immigrant or Muslim, black cultures are different world wide. The black african american experience may share some similarities with, say, black nigerian-British in London UK, or Jamaican, or Indian, but there will also be massive differences. I'd recommend getting into distinguishing between cultures, races, religions and ethnicities. We are never just the colour of our skins.
For Movies 'Roots' is an all time classic. 'Glory'. '12 years a slave', obviously. 'Remember the Titans'. 'The Colour Purple', or read the book in that one. 'Hidden Figures'. 'Black Panther' (more for why it was culturally significant rather than how good it is) 'Get out'. Lots of very American stuff there but 'Kidulthood', 'Adulthood' & 'Brotherhood' also good for a particularly urban UK look (some bleak shit mind, don't expect a lot of laughs). Back to America I'd recommend 'Green Book' because the white saviour trope is hilarious. 'Black Klansman' also very funny. Also the original UK version of 'The IT crowd' with Richard Ayoade does a great job of making the colour of his skin irrelevant, and is funny as fuck. See also 'Peep Show' and Alan Johnson. 'Phoneshop' is funny for the very recognisable patois.
For music, try some Burna Boy for some west african afrobeats. A girl could do worse than listen (and learn how to sway) to Sade too. Nina Simone, obviously. Megan Thee Stallion. Beverly Knight. There's a lot of popular drill artists out of the UK and a big rap scene but that's for the young bloods. Hurts my damn ears.

omg you are also south indian!!!! i find it really hard to find south indians on here, could you do the batboys reacting to reader wearing traditionally indian clothing for a wedding they are attending???
Im north Indian with a little spanish in me shifting to NY actually but yea the indian dc fanfic community is smaller. I love the idea of a traditional indian s/o with Jason particularly. Dick with someone spanish , tim with an African American, Damian with caucasion and bruce with someone asian. Idk why Thats just How I imagine it. Its in no way a canon to their character or a generalization of people from a culture but the cultures ,and norms and values of these cultures really suit the batboys. Hope this isn't offensive. So Im just going to do batboys x reader in a family event .
Batboys(tim, dick, jason , bruce)x y/n - At a family event
Dick Grayson
is also dressed in your cultural's traditional clothes. Dick has traveled all over the world and he likes seeing you in your traditional clothes. Being comfortable in your traditional wear, being in "your element" . He charms up all your family members, no-one even calls him the white boyfriend anymore . The women also hit on him( of all age groups srsly) He is part of the family by the end( or within 5 mins) of the night . Dont be surprised when you find him and your family laughing about what jokes your parents are going to make at your wedding. He isn't even nervous before going. He is a real charmer and you couldn't be prouder.
Jason todd
doesnt want to go. Really thinks your family wont like him and they probably wont the first time they meet him. Will still wear his leather jacket but at least he wore a white shirt and clean jeans? He even agreed to take the car rather then the bike. Will stop complaining the moment he sees you in your element. Like goddess pro max what even , so ethereal ,the world is shaking . Staring dialed up to 100/10 . plus his complaining was never serious to start with. He wants you to have a family, be connected to your background,. Its just one of the things that make you you and he wont change a single hair on you. Will probably get insecure ( I get set up or marriage proposal talks when I go to family functions - just indian girl things I hate it tbh. And I've noticed its a thing in a lot of cultures) because he'll think that you deserve that traditional life with people who 'get you" but no one will ever get you the way he does and you just need to remind him of that. He is a bit broody , tall and just kind of sticks by you . The men and boys of the group are probably fascinated by him so as the night goes he starts getting more comfortable around them. The kids lowkey like him a lot so its cute and you may get baby fever. And the older women of the group are poking at him( why the jacket? whats with that scar) and you'll have to rescue him. He'll do it all over for you though.
Tim drake-
time to put on that practiced facade. He is used to putting on a fake winning smile at those galas so imagine his surprise when his old tricks don't work at your family function. Personal space? privacy?? fake formalities?? don't exist. Bonus points if it isn't a fake rich family. But he gets to see you In a pretty clothes and he is simping, teasing you on how you look like a real girl now(but he lowkey prefers you in the geeky shirts you guys share) . he did research so like ask him the They are still very impressed by your respectful young man ( who is super rich and smart). He gets by tbh, a bit shy because he is just so not used to all this. But keep him near you, show him how to dance properly and get a few drinks in him and its a party. He loves it, your family loves him and your cousins are now his besties (don't ask when that happened). He loves having a family and it just leaves him with wonder. He is in awe of this and so grateful that you let him into your life.
Bruce wayne
does a lot of research . He knows exactly how to act, what to say and what to do. A bit cold and aloof . Still surprised by the whole chaos . But unlike tim he keeps his cool. your family is impressed by you "bagging" the rich billionaire boyfriend. If this is batman with robins ver then they are worried about the huge amount of kids he adopted and what that means for you. So uh..just mention the billion again? They ask really personal questions but bruce prepared and is so ready for it. He loves seeing you in your traditional clothes, probably encourages you to wear them casually too. As if anyone can stop you, go to galas in traditional clothes or just wear home traditional in the mansion. Over all he loves getting a peak into your life and what experiences shaped you to be the woman he loves so dearly now.
If there's anything offensive about this let me know and I will change the content or even delete the whole thing. Ive based it a little of the four different cultured families I have and the common stuff I've noticed in all of them. But I've tried keeping it as general as possible tbh. So I'm sorry if this is offending anyone.
