The Anniversary Zoids have been really enjoyable to build, with that classic moto style, yet more complex design than the Wild kits. I only have the Blade Liger and Liger Zero right now, but hope to pick up more of them now that they are expanding the line under the new name Advanced Zi!

Light angst, comfort, tooth rotting fluff, yandere undertones

It’s not romantic to have a boyfriend in the military. It really is not.

Your man is always away, and the stimulating aspects of mutual pining dry off quickly. In the end, you’re both just lonely, and anxious, and jealous, and horny.

Usually, the first week goes by just fine. You’re quite glad that the big man is away and you have the house all to yourself. You stay up late now that König is not there to supervise you, and you can walk around in nothing but his tee and your underwear without a giant sneaking up to you from behind and smothering you in a crushing hug or picking you up and twirling you around like you’re a doll.

He always tells you (lovingly) that you demand so much attention, that you’re like a little pet he has to take good care of. You always pout at him for saying such things because König is the most co-dependent, touch-starved man you have ever met. (You don’t tell that to him, of course. And König would simply deny it even if you did.)

The second week is way harder.

You start to miss the smothering and the cooing and the cuddles and the sex. You start to miss the way he brings you your morning tea and then attacks you if you’re still in bed. You were always the morning person out of the two of you. König had already gone for a short run or done 50 pushups before you were even fully awake.

In the third week, you start to cuddle his blanket and pillow. You even cry into them because they smell of him but are far too soft and tiny to be any kind of compensation for his muscles and safety. You two can’t even text or talk – not to speak of having a cute but raunchy little video call – because he’s somewhere where there’s no connection, no internet, nothing.

Familiar fears creep up on you at the end of the third week. You know König is supposed to come home tomorrow but there’s still no sign of him having returned from the mission safely. Usually, he at least sends a text; normally, he would call and you two would talk on the phone for hours. He would ask so many questions about how you’ve been, what you’ve been up to, who you’ve seen, have you remembered to take care of yourself, eat healthy and drink enough water, silly things like that. It sometimes feels like an interrogation – as if you can’t even tie your own shoelaces when König is away. And you know he’s a little too possessive… but you can’t help but giggle sometimes, which in turn only makes him more serious. Once he even scolded you, saying "Zis is not funny" (with his terribly funny, sexy accent.)

He always, always has to make sure his girl is safe and that nothing bad has happened to his pet while he has been away. But now… there’s nothing. Only silence.

The key turns on your front door lock at 15.10 sharp the next day.

For the first time ever, you actually run to him. You don’t even have time to look him in the eyes; you simply collide against his chest, your arms go around him while relief washes over you like a warm, lovely wave.

"Hallo little one," he’s surprised at your advances – usually, it’s he who comes to you and lifts you from the ground with a hug. Now he freezes from the wall of your emotion that he’s met with before he’s even gotten his shoes off. Then his arms close around you, pressing you against the sweet, sturdy darkness of his chest.

"Liebling… Kleine Schatz. I missed you so much."

He sounds so relieved to see you too that you almost start to cry. If you’ve been an anxious mess for not having heard from him in three whole weeks, you can only imagine how lovelorn König has been. He’s stronger than you in many ways, but you know you’re the Achilles’ heel of this man. You’re an addiction, an obsession – perhaps it’s not healthy, but neither of you are strong enough to fight the connection you two have.

"I missed you too," you mumble in his chest, squeezing him even tighter, pressing yourself against him furiously until your heart starts to feel like melting ice cream on a sunny day.

You stay like that for a while, breathing together, relaxing into each other. Then he moves to slowly get his shoes off all the while still holding you, scoops you up in his arms, and you reach to place your hands around his neck in an instinct. He must see the sorrow in your eyes as he looks down at the pitiful, pathetic you, trying to hold on to him while he walks with you in his carry, marches through life with you in his arms like you weigh nothing. He looks at you with concern through the whole journey to where your bedroom is. You feel your bottom lip pout again as he lays you on the bed.

"Little angel… Is everything alright?" He asks when he settles there beside you and takes you back in his arms. Your leg drags up and over him – you’re built small compared to this giant, but his hips are so narrow that your thigh comes to rest on his frame like it has always belonged there.

"Yes," you whimper, cringing at how pathetic you sound. Everything is alright. Everything's perfect now that he’s here. You guess you’re a bit dependent, too...

He tells you he had to destroy his old phone because of some breach in security. That’s why he couldn’t call you. The mission was a mess, and everything that could go wrong, went wrong. He got back yesterday with fresh scrapes and bruises, only to get rid of his cell without being able to even call you first. It would’ve set you in danger too if he had made that call.

And it doesn’t matter now, not when he’s finally here. König doesn’t even grill you with questions, he just looks down at you with all the love in the world. His hand lifts to cup your cheek, a warm thumb brushes over your cheek as if to sweep away an imagined tear, and t’s obvious that he’s happy to be home – happy to be with you. From that loving look in his eyes, you could bet a million bucks that you’re his home, not this house or the objects inside it.

You cling to him as he strokes your hair, your neck and your back, gently and with care, like you’re his most prized possession. When you tell him you were afraid that something had happened to him, he takes a deep breath and releases it with a shaky exhale.

You know that it breaks his heart to know that there’s someone in this world who cares about if he lives or dies. That’s why you sometimes hold back your confessions of love and dedication; because you know it’s almost painful for him to hear them. König wants to smother you with love, but every time you return the gift, he looks like he’s about to crumble to dust.

He starts to rock you gently while whispering sweet little things in your ear. He tells you how he almost forgot to clean his gun because he was in such a hurry to get back to you. He tells you how he looked at your picture first thing in the morning and last thing at night before laying himself to sleep.

He also tells you about this little kitten that befriended him in the ruins because he gave the poor creature food and water, and how one night, it was finally brave enough to sleep inside his helmet. After that, it stuck to his side like he was the creature's new mom. He had to take special care that it didn't get hurt when he was getting some heat.

"It reminded me of you," he says softly.

"How so…?"

"It was tiny and cute and demanded a lot of attention."

You shove him lightly, even poke him in the chest. König just laughs, grabs your hand, and gives it a kiss.

You know why that cat chose him out of all the soldiers – it’s because he knows how to take care of poor little things. You tell it to him, and his eyes light up with joy.

"You don’t have to sleep in my helmet, little one. You have a special place right here," he says, squeezing you against his heart.

6. If you want to successfully build anything with the wood from the tree you chopped down, you’ll most likely need to use the Pythagorean theorem. If you want to know the length of wood you need for a crossbeam of a frame it’s useful to know the hypotenuse of the triangle defined by the side lengths of said frame.

And this isn’t me speaking as a math grad student- this is me speaking as someone who worked as a theater set builder for a large part of high school and undergrad. (In fact, I think I used the Pythagorean theorem many times more for designing sets than I ever used it - or expect to use it- for my math research 😅)

21 Days Theory (Thailand, YouTube) - the only thing I didn't like about this pulp was the fact that they don't kiss, so... yeah, this is my first pick for you. Very YA first love angsty, fantastic queer rep and side characters. RECOMMENDED

My Esports Genius Brother (China, Gaga?) - it's hella odd censored bromance but enjoyable. No real angst tho.

HIStory My Hero (Taiwan, Viki) - basically a BL with no sex or kissing, but also body-swap so is it BL? I can't remember the end but I think it's happy?

Silhouette of Your Voice AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru (Japan, ????) - this 2017 yaoi adaptation is a full on BL just no kissing at all. The source manga (I Hear the Sunspot) is a favorite of mine and the casting was decent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for you (but not in general). Grey only.

Love of Siam (Thailand, ????) ALL THE ANGST, I'm pretty sure the most they do is hug, I could be v wrong though because too sad for me to ever rewatch. Very formative to the Thai BL industry.

The Lover (BL cut) (Korea ????) sometimes you can find the BL cut on YT, it has slapstick comedic sexualized moments that are maybe a little homophobic (or something), no actual sex or kissing, but no angst at all. (Korea's working some shizz out with this early offering.)

Kabe Koji AKA Kabesaa Doujin Sakka no Neko Yashiki-kun wa Shounin Yokkyuu wo Kojirasete iru (Japan, Viki) - I watched this and I was excited about it before it aired, but I seem to have expunged it from my memory and kept no screen caps in annoyance, so that's all I got.

Love in Spring AKA Spring of Crush (Korea, ????) - a crossdressing historical that flew utterly under the radar. I decided it just wasn't really BL, but it has BL aspects and it's kinda a little queer... or something. Grey only.

Evening Cafe (Thai pulp, YouTube) - No heat and no kisses, but a decent lead pair, about a boy who works in a cafe and the new employee who has a crush on him. That’s it, that's the whole story.

A Shoulder to Cry On (Korea, Viki) - Has no kissing and many people found it really good as @isisanna-blog reminded me, thank you). It certainly has ALL THE ANGST. (I did not like it at all, but I'm a terrible judge of this kind of BL.)

What Did You Eat Yesterday? (Japan ???) - this is such a lovely show, very warm and comforting and slice of life. There is very little angst, they too old for that shit, but little to no sexual content either. It's very warm and loving. A safe extremely yet queer show - and oh boy do we not get many of those. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Cherry Magic AKA 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard AKA 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii AKA Cheri Maho (Japan ????) - there's sort of some bed tussling and implied sex but you could imagine them just being snuggles for the mains, the sides have dead fish kiss. In general there's some angst but not much. It's fluffy and great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Bonus: overt ace representation for one of the side characters.

Meow Ears Up (Thailand Viki) - sides may kiss? I enjoyed this pulp especially at the start, the premise is fun. I think my biggest complaint was lack of kissing.

My Love Mix Up AKA Kieta Hatsukoi (Japan Viki), a case could be made for a demi seme in this BL. So much frenetic angst around bisexual identity crisis. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

My Ride (Thailand Gaga) - my favorite Thai BL pulp the sides have a good kiss and the mains do kiss but it's v dead fish, not at all sexual, and it comes at the very end. Otherwise extremely chaste, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this BL, queer and complex and engaging.

I Want to See Only You AKA Kimi no Koto Dake Mite Itai (Japan ????) - This is a beautiful piece of cinema well acted, about two boys who are opposite personalities and grew up together. The only kiss is the one pictured above, v dead fish. Full review here.

Nobleman Ryu's Wedding (Korea WeTV) - 12th Night goes BL in this cross dressing historical that ended up feeling like a Cinderfella fairy tale, lightly dramatic and utterly charming. Full review. There is one dead fishy kiss at the end but it's otherwise aggressively pure.

If you like this last style of KBL (with a kiss at the end being okay, I have quite a few more to recommend). Until 2022, most KBLs only had one dead fish kiss in them, so you are pretty safe with pre 2022 KBLs. They tend to be quite chaste and de-sexualized. Other good examples: Wish You, Light on Me.

At this point I've basically long since run dry on Bleach funfacts, certainly out of any that have any real weight in the broader readings of the series. But I do have one not-so-fun fact still left up my sleeve --a real dead end nothing contribution... So buckle up, I guess? I apologize in advance if this ends up, like, I dunno, spoiling the aesthetic(?) for anyone. Feel free to just ignore this and move on if you're touchy about keeping your obsessive fandom experiences squeaky clean.

So, I noted back when I was combing thru Quincy terms, that it felt a little less than comfy that in addition to the general n*zi aesthetics Juugram's official title was in fact "Sternritter Grand Master" which felt, at the time, like an unfortunate coincidence that it would fall in line with the naming scheme of the K*K's nonsense titles like Grand Wizard/Grand Dragon, Grand Cyclops, Grand Magi and various other ridiculous sounding occultist LARPer horseshit they've cycled thru over the past century+. But I just kinda left it at that and didn't think to dig any deeper,

But then I was reminded that in the early days of the K*K one of their stated goals was to establish a white supremacist "country" inside the united states, and as they dabbled in this insurgency fantasy, they dubbed this goal of a secret, second, white nation within the confines of the USA, their "Invisible Empire"...

And although the word we hear throughout the TYBW arc is the German Wändenreich[ヴァンデンライヒ] from Wänden:“Walls” and Reich:“Empire/Realm,” the Japanese meaning underlying that term is [見えざる帝国]: “Unseen/Invisible Empire.”

In fact the white robed and hoods tradition stemmed from what were initially petty pranks(although they escalated very quickly in seriousness and danger) in which they would menace black communities and abolitionists by pretending to be the ghosts of dead confederates. In this capacity the imagery and language around them also evoked an "Army of Ghosts."

And although it was never properly addressed, there was always this vague issue of the Quincy's ages... Those with clear backgrounds like Juugram and Bazz-B seem impossibly old. And we see that As Nodt is recruited on what appears to be his deathbed --in a hospital, on life support and in fear of dying, with a bible on his bedside as if ready to be read his last rites-- and of course the Quincy genocide of 200 years prior.

And tangential to this, we see the brief, if mostly pointless, return of the three dead Fullbringers --Ginjo, Tsukishima, and Giriko-- who all seem to have retained their memories and powers across the borders of life and death. (We won't ask about how or why their fullbring items are still usable) Is it safe to speculate then that the Quincy are in fact a literal Army of Ghosts? It explains how they're able to go toe to toe with the shinigami in ways Uryuu's initial explanations of their skills would've suggested wasn't possible. (i.e. that they were describes as being regular flesh and bone humans and only their weapons are actually supernatural, and thus they are not capable of particularly extraordinary physical feats, or blessed with any superhuman durability.) And it also sort of makes more sense that rather than being a bunch of flesh and blood humans who survived losing the war, somehow spiritized themselves to get into the afterlife, and then hid for 999 years, that they could have just been humans who died first and were recruited as ghosts, having been spirited away into the shadow realm. Or Quincy that died with the full intent of reuniting as ghosts, having some kind of assurance that they would retain their memories and powers.

I like the former over the latter though, as it means the Ishida family really were the last living Quincy. But I do like the morbid idea of Yhwach commanding his army, Jamestown style, to kill themselves as the first step to them going to heaven. Only in this case the kingdom of god as they imagine it has to be fought for because the shinigami are already have a whole society there and need to be driven out first.

There is also a lot of "Knight" and "White Knight" imagery and titles evoked in the K*K's long history, and while that's absolutely vague enough to be handwaved on its own, it's definitely not not adjacent to all this....

(This has nothing to do with anything I just had already slapped the uniforms pic together and wanted to use it somewhere)

So to sort of loosely review everything going on with the Quincy....

Catholic inverted priest frocks, crosses, silver and exorcisms, holy eucharist angel wings&halo final forms, blood eucharist schrift, conversion based recruitment policies, the whole "one kingdom under god" shtick, miracle baby son of god christ figure, explicit mention of monotheism

but then also 5 pointed crosses/stars and pentagrams,

victims of a genocide with a dr.mengele nemesis, YHWACH-v-YHWH

inverted Hugo Boss uniforms, german themed attacks, skills and tools, crosses again, explicitly evoking the Schutzstaffel with Yhwach's royal guard, and nonsense blood purity eugenics b.s.... weirdly not touched upon "black sun" or swastika imagery tied to Ichigo

For some reason a few loose threads of what appear to be Loius XIV and his sun god apollo fixation, purifying light and sun and stars motifs

YHWACH having big Backbeard energy, the literal evocation of Backbeard, being a western ghost army

and now these mismatched crumbs of what appear to be deliberate K*K references: ghost army, invisible empire, grandmaster, etc...

Like... I don't think this makes them worse, or paints Kubo as some kind of crackpot racist --in case my stance on his use of n*zi imagery didn't make that clear-- but like... I don't know what to make of it honestly... It's as inconsequential to the actual message or plot as anything else, including the n*zi stuff, but it just feels weird knowing it's there? Just sorta loitering around in the background?? Also the Quincy are just such a bizarre clusterfuck of unfocused nonsense ""themes"" with like zero actual content just in general. Given everything that's in that slurry I think that might be for the better? Because any coherent message drawn from all of these influences probably couldn't have been any good...

Alucard would just get tired of it, blankly staring at you and plainly asking you, “are you stupid or something?” 

“What?” You ask, taken aback by the rudeness.

“Are you stupid or something,” Alucard asks again in a serious tone that still has a sprinkle of annoyance mixed in since he had to repeat himself.

You shake your head, “no, I heard what you said. I’m just wondering what the actual fuck makes you think you can talk to me like that.”

“Well, clearly you are too dumb to realize I’ve made multiple advances in attempts to court you.” Alucard says plainly. This old geezer still thinks ‘courting’ is a thing.

“Did you offer the plumpest goat in the whole village to my father as well?” You ask sarcastically, “the Hell are you talking about ‘making advances��?”

“I have been doing like what they do in those movies-” Alucard has been watching cheesy rom coms in attempts to learn how to flirt, “-trying to woo you, but you just haven’t caught on.”

You couldn’t keep yourself from laughing, “that’s why you’ve been acting weird?!”

Alucard stays silent.

When you finally stop laughing and catch your breath you rhetorically ask, “Alucard, you do understand that life doesn’t work like that, right? All of those people are actors and the whole thing is scripted.”

Alucard grumbles, “Seras should’ve just let me give you the letter.”

“Letter?” Your curiosity immediately peaks, “you wrote me a letter?”

“Yes,” Alucard pulls the letter out from his jacket and hands it to you. Though he does not show it, he’s nervous as he watches you delicately unfold the paper and your eyes skin across it.

“Huh,” you keep your look unwavering as you look back up at him. Knowing that your unimpressed demeanor has him sweating bullets, then you fold up the paper and with a smirk say, “I could get used to these types of letters.”

“So that means you’ll let me court you?” Alucard asks.

You chuckle, “it’s called dating now, but yes, I’ll let you ‘court’ me.”

Alucard gets the biggest smile, “I told Seras the letter would work.”

“Yeah, you shouldn’t take dating advice from her anymore,” you laugh.

“Well I shouldn’t need to, now  that we’re together,” Alucard says happily.

Pip shakes his head, “no, not that way. Well, not all ze time, but zat’s not what I’m talkin’ about now.”

“What are you talking about then?” You ask Pip.

“Not to kiss you, I think about it all ze time,” Pip’s attitude is no longer playful. He constantly thinks about what it’d be like to hold you tight as he gives your soft lips tender kisses. You make him so happy and you’re all he thinks about. 

You go back to not taking him seriously and thinking this is a joke. So you decide to test him like you’ve done before and playfully say, “do it then.”

Pip is tired of all the joking, he leans in and kisses you so passionately, the world fades away. At this moment the rest of the world fades, it’s only you and him as it should be, always and forever.

When you two break apart, you're both breathing heavily, the kiss stole all the air out of both of your lungs and after a long pause Pip finally breaks the silence, “zat what I meant.”

You couldn’t help but chuckle, “I’ve already figured that out by now.” “Just makin’ sure-” Pip smiles, “-because it took you zis long.”

WIP: Sun Wukong's Powers and Skills

I'm currently working on a comprehensive list of Sun Wukong's magic powers. Here is just a taste from chapters two to four.

Ch. 2

Early education #1: human skills - “[H]e began to learn from his [senior immortal] schoolmates the arts of language and etiquette” (與眾師兄學言語禮貌) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 116). - Note: We all know that Monkey failed his etiquette classes.

Early education #2: religious skills - “He discussed with them the scriptures and the doctrines; he practiced calligraphy and burned incense” (講經論道、習字焚香; i.e. ritual procedure) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 116).

Wukong’s knowledge of scripture and philosophy pops up a few times in the novel. For example, he subsequently becomes enraptured by Subodhi's lecture on the Dao and Chan (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 116).

Early education #3: gardening skills - “In more leisurely moments he would be … hoeing the garden, planting flowers or pruning trees” (閑時即...鋤園、養花修樹) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 116).

Immorality (1st category) [1] - This is achieved via oral formulas (口訣) and breathing exercises (自己調息) at prescribed times (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, pp. 120-121). - The stipulated Chinese hours are before zi (12:00-14:00) and after wu (12:00-02:00) (i.e. noon to midnight) (子前午後). However, historical real world practice is reversed: after zi and before wu (i.e. midnight to noon).

Adeptness (i.e. quick learning) - “But this Monkey King was someone who, knowing one thing, could understand a hundred!” (這猴王也是他一竅通時百竅通) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 122).

First learns the “Multitude of Terrestrial Killers” (地煞數; a.k.a. ���72 changes,” 七十二般變化) - This requires oral formulas (口訣, a.k.a. “oral spells,” 咒語) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 122). - This sometimes requires a magic hand sign and a shake of the body (see below).

First attempt at “Cloud-Soaring” (騰雲) - Subodhi mockingly calls this “Cloud-Climbing” (爬雲) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 122).

First learns the “cloud somersault” (觔斗雲) - This requires a magic sign, an oral spell, a fist clinch, and a body shake (捻著訣，念動真言，攢緊了拳，將身一抖). It takes him 108,000 li (里) in a single leap (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 123). - 108,000 li = 33,554 mi or 54,000 km [2]

Multitude of Terrestrial Killers (i.e. 72 changes) - This requires a magic sign (捻著訣) and an oral spell (咒語). He transforms into a pine tree (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 124).

Cloud somersault - He flies from the Western Continent to Flower-Fruit Mountain (i.e. from one side of the world to the other) “in less than an hour” (消一個時辰) (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 125).

First use of the “body beyond body” (身外身法; a.k.a. “magic of body division,” 分身法) (i.e. hair clones) - This requires chewing and a “change!” (變) command. Small clone monkeys are used to overwhelm and beat up a monster who is three zhang (三丈) (31.29 ft / 9.53 m) tall (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 128). [3] A passage explains: - “For you see, when someone acquires the body of an immortal, he can project his spirit, change his form, and perform all kinds of wonders [出神變化無方]. Since the Monkey King had become accomplished in the Way, every one of the eighty-four thousand hairs on his body could change into whatever shape or substance he desired” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 128). - 原來人得仙體，出神變化無方。不知這猴王自從了道之後，身上有八萬四千毛羽，根根能變，應物隨心。

Cloud somersault - He flies 30 or 50 monkeys and property (pots, bowls, utensils, etc.) home from captivity to Flower-Fruit Mountain (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 129).

Ch. 3

Martial arts (武藝) - He “teach[es his monkeys] how to sharpen bamboos for making spears, file wood for making swords, arrange flags and banners, go on patrol, advance or retreat, and pitch camp” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, pp. 131-132). - 教小猴砍竹為標，削木為刀，治旗幡，打哨子，一進一��，安營下寨  …

Cloud Somersault - He flies east from Flower-Fruit Mountain over “200 li of water in no time” (霎時間過了二百里水面) to the Eastern Continent (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 131).

Blows a mighty wind (陣風) - This requires a magic sign (捻起訣來), an oral spell (咒語), and taking a deep breath (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, pp. 131-132). A poem states that it puts the world into chaos: - Thick clouds in vast formation moved o'er the world; Black fog and dusky vapor darkened the Earth; Waves churned in seas and rivers, afrighting fishes and crabs; Boughs broke in mountain forests, wolves and tigers taking flight. Traders and merchants were gone from stores and shops. No single man was seen at sundry marts and malls. The king retreated to his chamber from the royal court. Officials, martial and civil, returned to their homes. This wind toppled Buddha's throne of a thousand years And shook to its foundations the Five-Phoenix Tower (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 132). - 炮雲起處蕩乾坤，黑霧陰霾大地昏。 江海波翻魚蟹怕，山林樹折虎狼奔。 諸般買賣無商旅，各樣生涯不見人。 殿上君王歸內院，階前文武轉衙門。 千秋寶座都吹倒，五鳳高樓幌動根。

Body beyond body (i.e. hair clones) - This requires chewing and a “change!” (變) command. The small clone monkeys carry an armory’s worth of weapons (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 132).

Magic of displacement (攝法) - This is a spell that carries the weapon-laden monkeys on wind (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 132).

Monkey claims to have a number of supernatural powers: - “I have the ability of seventy-two transformations. The cloud somersault has unlimited power. I am familiar with the magic of body concealment (身遯身, a.k.a. 隱身法) and the magic of displacement. I can find my way to Heaven or I can enter the Earth. I can walk past the sun and the moon without casting a shadow, and I can penetrate stone and metal without hindrance. Water cannot drown me, nor fire burn me” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 133). - 我自聞道之後，有七十二般地煞變化之功，觔斗雲有莫大的神通；善能隱身遯身，起法攝法。上天有路，入地有門；步日月無影，入金石無礙；水不能溺，火不能焚。

Magic of water restriction (閉水法) - He travels to the Dragon Kingdom (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 133).

Super strength - He effortlessly toys with a 3,600 catty (斤) (4,682.61 lbs / 2,124 kg) battle fork and a 7,200 catty (9,365.23 lbs / 4,248 kg) halberd (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 134). [4] 

Super strength - He lifts the 13,500 catty (斤) (17,559.81 lbs / 7,965 kg) iron pillar in the dragon treasury (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 135).

Opens a waterway (開水道) - He uses the magic of water restriction to return to Flower-Fruit Mountain (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 137).

First use of the “Magic Method of Modeling Heaven on Earth” (法天像地的神通), a 10,000 zhang (萬丈) (104,300 ft / 31,800 m) tall giant form - This requires bending over and screaming “grow!” [長!]. This form has: - “[A] head like the Tai Mountain and a chest like a rugged peak, eyes like lightning and a mouth like a blood bowl, and teeth like swords and halberds” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 138).  - 頭如泰山，腰如峻嶺，眼如閃電，口似血盆，牙如劍戟

Immorality (2nd category) - This is achieved by inking out his name from the ledgers of hell [生死簿子] (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 141).

Ch. 4

Cloud somersault - It is much faster than those of ordinary immortals (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 145).

Travel to heaven - Refer back to ch. 3-#6A (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 145).

First use of “three-headed and six-armed” (三頭六臂) war form - This requires a “change!” (變) command (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 155).

Staff multiplication - This is done millions of times over (以一化千千化萬) to face Nezha’s own countless weapons (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 156). - The multitude of armaments are said to “clash like horned-dragons flying in the air” (cf. Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 156).

Body beyond body (i.e. hair clones) - This requires a “change!” (變) command. Monkey creates an autonomous decoy to distract Nezha while he slips behind him to land a staff blow (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, p. 156).

Immortality (3rd category) - This is achieved via heavenly imperial wine (御酒, a.k.a. “Immortal wine,” 仙酒 and “juices of jade,” 玉液瓊漿) (Wu & Yu, vol. 1, p. 159, 165, and 167). 

I'm currently on chapter 16, so it will take me a while to finish, especially since I'm simultaneously gathering info for several other articles, including mirrored essays for Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing.

Once I've gone through all 100 chapters, I will put each instance of a particular power into its own category (transformation, super strength, hair clones/tools, etc.) and then analyze everything as a whole. The Google Doc containing the list of powers will be attached to the analysis.

This project was partly inspired by a previous effort made by @the-monkey-ruler.

I'm open to feedback.

Notes:

1)  In place of using “layer” or “level,” I’m choosing to designate his various immortalities as “categories.” This is because a new layer of divine longevity or durability would surely be added for each immortal peach, elixir pill, or cup/jug of heavenly wine consumed. Hence, eating multiple peaches would be one category, eating multiple elixir pills would be one category, and so on and so forth.

2) It’s important to note that 108,000 li is a metaphor for instant enlightenment (see section III here). Therefore, power-scalers should not use any instance of this as a feat. 

3) One zhang (丈) comprises ten chi (尺, a.k.a. "Chinese feet"), and during the Ming Dynasty, one chi was roughly 12.3 in or 31.8 cm. This makes one zhang 10.43 ft or 3.18 m (Jiang, 2005, p. xxxi).  

4) During the Ming, one catty (jin, 斤) was 590 grams (Elvin, 2004, p. 491 n. 133).

It seemed a waste of material not to build the spear head into the subject to replace the damaged parts on its body. Lager problem solved by replacing respiratory system with an aquatic respiratory system. Subject has also shown signs of rebellious actions, this has been rectified by taking away water privileges. After all water is a privilege in my land not a given right. After reviving the subject was a lot more compliant”

I never did find the flaw the rest had so I rebuilt the subject so many times at this point I do not know if there is a single remaining original component, making it imposable to diagnose what was wrong further more the elemental energies with it are now unstable.”

Unit now is afflicted with bad shaking and often complains about being very cold. Besides of this minor problem it appears I used inferior Protodermis in the reconstruction of the the worker unit and it has begun to oxidize badly and will need further repairs, I will be installing a more advanced cooling system to make sure I have fully corrected the over heating problem”

I found that it was not a plasma worker as listed but rather light, it was not easy but that was fixed”

I saw the words “failed relationships” when I was starting chapter 2 of tender threads and immediately came here to ask if Ben has a MJ-equivalent? Mostly bc I’m thinking jealous homelander would be so funny (and terrifying for anyone on the opposite end of that lol)

Oddly enough, I think of Homelander as Ben’s MJ.  

There was a ficlet where I sort of established that Ben has an ex partner or two but really never went too far in depth with it beyond using it as a way to touch on the boundary violations a lot of trans folks experience from inconsiderate partners.  When I wrote the line about failed relationships in Tender Threads, I was initially imagining it as Ben, probably ages 18~early twenties, trying really hard to put himself out there and find a partner but ultimately failing because of him bailing on them to do the right thing and help people.  And, because he clings very tightly to keeping the streams of his personal life and hero life from crossing, he was never quite honest with them and it cost him his relationships.  Dating as a trans person is difficult as is, so I imagine dating while trans and secretly a superhero is an olympic sport that Ben just couldn’t keep up with and lost.

But yeah, I definitely think of Homie as Ben’s MJ.  Here’s someone who isn’t a good person, who kills indiscriminately, who views humans as lesser, altruism as pointless, and is just all around not great that simultaneously pulled Ben out of the pain of his dual life, makes being a supe fun and not merely an amalgamation of responsibilities and obligations, grows to not just fixate but actually have love for Ben, makes Ben bold, and doesn’t particularly care if Ben is trans– which, believe me, can be quite the rarity.  From the start, Homelander sees through the barrier of the mask.  Ben isn’t just Ben, and he isn’t just Spidey when he’s with Homie.  He’s both.  There’s no need for his identities to clash, and there’s an odd peace in that, I think.  And even though Homelander tests him in a lot of ways because Ben's moral compass points very much in the opposite direction, he unveils a world of different freedoms to Ben.

On the other hand, Ben is (and I say it this way since we barely know anything about his relationship with Maeve) Homelander’s first genuine partner.  There’s no ulterior motives.  He’s not baiting Homelander with love in return for good behavior or career advancement/stability, and he’s certainly not doing it a la Stormfront who had been using him to establish a supe’d up n*zi world.  And, while I know everyone has different interpretations on Firecracker and her motives (and I’m running along with my interpretations here), Ben’s not baiting Homelander with something he’s very vulnerable with to cement his place on the team and protect himself from others.  It’s not PR, it’s not friends with benefits, and it’s not nothing.

Ben shows him that vulnerability is okay, opening his heart is okay, and that they can grow together. That Homie's boundaries can, should, and will be respected even if he doesn’t quite know where they are yet himself– they’ll find them together.  Homelander gets to know what it’s like to be treated with love, dignity, and humanity as a foundation, not a reward that can be deprived at any moment.  And yeah, Homelander is shallow, he’s impulsive, murderous, and all around kind of awful, but here’s someone who wants to dig deeper than that. Here's someone who holds him when he's covered in blood, when he wakes from nightmares. When the world is too much, Ben holds it on his own back to give him a break. And when the world takes all that Homelander has ever known (in my lil depowered series), Ben helps him build something new.

I think they fill the voids in each other, no innuendo intended, and become each other’s wings just as much as each other’s rocks.  Sorry this got long winded lol, but yeah.  I think Homelander is Ben’s MJ.
