if i can be honest here this is really one of my least favourite parts of the way the romances are written. the idea that you can only really fall in love once (and both the related ideas that, if this love is real, then every other relationship you've had must not have really been love and that, if you have been in love before, your previous love somehow cheapens the current love) is so completely juvenile. it's the kind of line of thought you'd expect to see in a young adult novel marketed exclusively to 12- to 16-year-olds for whom every emotion feels like the most intense, ultimate feeling they could ever have, and who do not yet have the life experiences to understand (or appreciate) the complexities of love. "i've only ever loved this one person this way, every other feeling i've thought was love has just been a poor imitation" is a pretty thought but is ultimately a fantasy (and one that i, personally, find incredibly disrespectful towards people who have been in love and then fall in love again).
it would be one thing if this idea was espoused by only one of the characters. if only n (just as an example) bought into the idea that only one love can be your true love, then that would say something about n's character, their romantic and life history, the way they view and interpret the world, etc. but instead all of the ros seem to follow this line of thought - they've all never been in real love before, if they and the detective broke up they'd never experience this kind of love again, they're all soulmates, etc. and in that way this idea is not a characterization choice for particular characters, but an idea perpetuated by the work as a whole. and in my (biased and personal) opinion, it's a childish and unrealistic idea.

Do not scroll.
I have a deal for you.
I receive: Your follow
You receive: Your username will go down in a small pretty notebook as my first few followers for my novel + a novel with exactly what you like, as if this fell onto your page, you're the target audience
With regards to the novel: Premise? No I refuse to say. Main character? I refuse to say. Tropes? I refuse to say. I'd like to make this a project of trust, and perhaps the suspense of the storyline will only enhance your reading experience. I'll post quotes, paragraphs, and more little clues. And the first person to guess the plot (I hope my publishers allow this) will receive a free signed copy once the novel is published (maybe merch depending on the accuracy of the plot guessed).
I may disappoint. But how do you know for sure I will?

there should be a way to tag things for fandoms but only if you have criticism so that you can avoid crushing people's joy and whimsy, so people who are excited about new Nico book keep scrolling bc everyone has the right to enjoy things!!!! I don't wish to take that from you!!! However: what on earth could these guys possibly do in a sequel. No people to fight. Nobody else is at camp right now to hang with. They don't even have any trauma to heal. Like will they just hang out or.

I'm currently slowly working my way through the Animorphs books (just finished The Andalite Chronicles today and this goddamn tragic children's book nearly made me cry) and I'm so upset I never picked these books up as a kid, I would've adored them. But I'm also incredibly amused that one series I did imprint on as a teen was Michael Grant's Gone series, specifically for its freaky sci-fi worldbuilding and the way it portrayed kids and teens going through horrific situations and comitting horrific acts without brushing over the resulting trauma and consequences or treating it as just a 'fun adventure'. And then I find out that Grant co-wrote the Animorphs books and is married to Katherine Applegate. Yeah, I can see that.

A Hanged Man | 2024 | CSP
Proof that polls are but a suggestion, and the rest is at the whim of the artist!
I had intended to finish this before the end of the calendar year, but – typical of 2023 – it was not to be. As crazy as this one drove me, I figured out so many things while doing it. Like metallic reflections, style synchronicity (between my tendency to overwork in painting and my desire to cel shade everything for brevity), and what I want my work to feel like.
Here's to finishing far more pieces this year, and making even more strange, sensual, and very, very trans artwork.
Detail post separately. For now, a celebratory cocktail viewing of Godzilla Minus One.

The Importance of Using Your Brain in "Don’t Look Behind You"
Remember the use your head and check out my review of "Don't Look Behind You."
Content Warning: Don’t Look Behind You contains mentions of violence and murder, tense situations, manipulative behavior, references to alcoholism, and selfish teenagers. Reader discretion is advised. Spoilers for Don’t Look Behind You ahead! My earliest memory of Lois Duncan is from middle school. One of my classes offered A Gift of Magic as an option for that year’s summer reading assignment.…

So like, something I’ve thought about if shrinking machines were common…sometimes theater has roles meant for children, but maybe you don’t want to use child labor. Just shrink an actor to kid size for the show and grow them back to normal afterwards.
Of course, if the machine were to malfunction one day and had to get repaired, leaving you stuck at kid size (or perhaps even smaller) until it’s fixed…..well that would be a problem, wouldn’t it…

Review - I am up to readdddddd anything involving THE INHERITANCE GAMES universe. I love the series so very much. And I was really so excited to get to read Grayson and Jameson's book. Even though I liked the mystery, the riddles and secrets, family dynamics or chemistry between Avery and Jameson I felt very disappointed by THE BROTHERS HAWTHORNE.
First offffff!!!! the magic of the series, the spark was missing, many important fun characters like Libby, Max, Alisa, Rebecca, Thea, or even Oren, Nash and Xander (who were present) were missing.
If there is fifth book or any book in the future plzzzzzzzzz let all the characters be backkkkk. (fingers crossed 😃)
Gigi and Savannah are really are fun addition to the books.
I liked it, didn't love it .
