you and luke had a friday morning tradition of getting up earlier and stopping for coffee on your way into work. you were best friends, and had recently confessed your romantic feelings for each other but were still in an in-between, flirty phase and unofficially together. you had been on top of the world the past few weeks in the lavender haze of the honeymoon phase with him. he made your heart flutter in all the best ways.

you had a bit of a rushed morning, waking up later than you intended after staying up late working on some paperwork. you’d texted luke to let him know you’d have to skip coffee this morning, much to your disappointment.

‘no worries! see you at work :)’ he texted back almost immediately and you smiled softly at his text, his contact showing up with the heart you’d put next to it.

you got to work, setting your bag down at your desk and sitting down, slightly out of breath as you’d been rushing into the office from the parking lot. you glanced over and saw luke’s desk was still empty.

just then, you felt a warm hand against your shoulder, his hand gently moving a piece of hair from your face. you knew it was luke right away and glanced around anxiously, worried that someone might notice. nobody else on the team really knew about your unofficial-official relationship and you were a little shy about PDA regardless.

he laughed softly, “good morning, cariño,”

“morning,” you said, smiling up at him from your chair.

he set an iced coffee down on your desk, a small sticky note folded up on top of it. he made sure nobody was paying attention and leaned down, placing a gentle, feather-light kiss on your temple before heading over to his own desk, dropping his bag on the floor.

you watched him walk away, the soft kiss he left you had your stomach filled with butterflies and your skin warm and tingly. you turned on your computer and logged in, then opened the sticky note. in his slightly messy chicken scratch writing it said: ‘you look pretty today, i like you in blue’ then on the back with a tiny scribbled heart ‘enjoy your coffee, cariño’

you felt your cheeks turn a little bit pink as you tried to bite back a smile. you glanced up at him and made eye contact with him. you mouthed a silent ‘thank you’ and he smiled back at you, nodding and going back to his paperwork like it was the most normal thing in the world for him to do something like that for you.

you still weren’t used to his gentle love and sweet thoughtfulness. whether it was bringing you coffee at work or showing up at your apartment with a bouquet of flowers, your heart melted every time. you couldn’t believe how fortunate you were to have someone care about you so selflessly and though you weren’t officially together yet, you had no doubt that you were going to spend a lifetime with him.
