By the Numbers: halfway through the signup window edition!
That's right, signups for FTH 2025 have been open for a week, and what a week it has been! In 7 days we've had MORE signups than we did when we closed signups in 2024 … but not quite as many as we had after we re-opened for 4 hours to see whether or not we could crack that 1000 signup barrier.
We expected a big year, and you're definitely delivering!
So, what are the actual numbers?
756 creators have signed up to offer 1020 auctions in 117 listed fandoms and 214 write-in fandoms. And there's a WEEK to go!
A couple of quick breakdowns on the offers we have so far:
Types of written fanwork:
660 fan fiction (new) 170 fan fiction (remix of an existing fic) 36 meta/analysis 32 fan poetry 23 other written fanwork
Types of fan art:
33 banner 53 book cover 29 comic 125 drawing/painting/etc 5 gifset 26 icon(s) 8 moodboard 8 photo manip
And over in our supported orgs, creators *overwhelmingly* are leaving the decision to their bidders. That said, the umbrella category heads up the list when creators weighed in on which orgs to support. The rest of the list shakes out like this:
Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights Middle East Children’s Alliance Freedom to Read Foundation Disability Law United Crips for eSims for Gaza News Literacy Project Global Project Against Hate And Extremism Hope for Ukraine Environmental Integrity Project Never Again Action In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda National Network to End Domestic Violence Fight for the Future Education Fund Bellingcat Congo Leadership Initiative
So that's where we are at 7 days in to our 2-week-long signup window. Where will we be on Feb 2? We suspect it will be over our 2024 total and into new record territory. It's a terribly exciting journey — and there's still plenty of time to join us!
Signups are OPEN!

idk if anyone's ever asked this, but what are your favorite batcat kisses?
I think it’s safe to say atp that Batman and Catwoman have THE MOST iconic comic kisses of all time, so there are sooo man great ones to choose from!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman (2018) Annual #2
THIS ONE is #1 to meeee I love it so much
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman: Streets of Gotham (2009) #17
The reunion kiss after Bruce comes back from the dead is soooo good. The way she knocks Harley out to keep kissing him 😭 ❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman: Dark Age (2024) #6
I love love love Dark age so much, and this is such a good kiss. This and absolute Batman is the best their bond has been written in a long time.
Tumblr media
Batman (1940) #610
OF COURSE the Hush kiss is and always will be iconic.
Its impact CANNOT be understated! The amount of money dc made off this one panel is actually crazy, from the statues, posters, t-shirts, deluxe hardcover Hush republished version with Bat and Cat on the cover AND an animated movie? I can’t stress enough, this comic hit the streets like crack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only is it the most iconic comic kiss, It also exposed the gp to how down bad Batman truly is for Catwoman <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And dc hasn’t stopped pumping out batcat merch since! Now if only they’d give them the writing they deserve since they have no problem promoting them when they need 💰
Tumblr media
Batman (1940) #317
This Bronze Age kiss >>
Tumblr media
Catwoman (1989) #4
This ones underrated!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for movies, Rob and Zoe 1000% !!! The chemistry is EVERYTHING
Tumblr media
Probably my second favorite live action kiss is this one from Gotham s5e09 ❤️
Lots of great ones to choose from in animation as well, unfortunately tho, I think they completely dropped the ball when adapting Hush, the animation is soooo bland :/ (not as stiff as caped crusader, but much less colorful, it looked muddy, and considering the art was such a big part of hush, that was a biiig let down.)
BUT i love the kiss from Batman the long Halloween <3 And as for video game media, I like the Arkham Knight kiss, but TellTale Batman definitely wins bc they utilize her wayyyy better in that game 😊

The appeal of One Piece
Tumblr media
I know everyone's a bit sour on One Piece after the clown stunt tumblr pulled, but with the live-action series out and the anime popping off on social media, there's more eyes on this goofy pirate story than ever, and I've been dying to talk about it, so now's the time.
A lot of the conversation around One Piece is steeped in hyperbole, and it's hard not to be hyperbolic when you're talking about a work of almost unprecedented length and popularity. With that in mind, I wanna try to explain what makes One Piece so good in a way that is concise, spoiler-free, and that will give you an idea if this might actually be a story you'll enjoy.
And I do actually think a lot of people who would enjoy One Piece are currently writing it off, and I think a lot of the blame lies on assumptions people have about shonen as a genre. One Piece is no doubt a shonen, with young and teen boys as the primary demographic, but it is also first and foremost an adventure story about a group of quirky outcasts setting out to follow their dreams, despite (or often in spite of) the crushing weight of reality.
But you can't have an adventure story without a world to set that adventure in, and what a world Eiichiro Oda has crafted. One Piece manages to feel like it has fully realized an entire planet, with every island we travel to having a very distinct sense of culture and visual identity. A lot of care has gone into building the history and politics of these places, and the mechanics by which their more out-there elements, like the sky-high ocean geyser or the mountain with an upside-down waterfall, function. As such, it is a setting that afford its story a lot of variety, while also being able to tackle a lot of very heady topics like authoritarianism, racism, and abuse in intelligent, nuanced ways.
But just as important as all of islands we visit are the wonderful characters we meet. A lot of people aren't into One Piece's exaggerated cartoon aesthetic, and I respect that, but it does lend itself to a lot of very unique faces and body types that make its cast of 1000+ characters a joy to behold. This is admittedly less true of the more conventionally attractive women, many of whom look very similar, but this is does not extend to their writing. Oda is very good at imbuing his characters with life, pulling on their histories to give them personalities and quirks that are often as funny as they are sad. Everyone I know that reads One Piece has a side character that they stan hardcore for, be it the lovable klutz Donquixote Rocinante or the petulant ghost girl Perona.
And all of this is especially true for our protagonists, the Straw Hat Pirates, each one of which is a deep, multifaceted character whose drive and dreams can be traced back to their often heartbreaking origins. I know I mentioned it at the top already, but at its core, One Piece is ultimately a story about a group of hurt, lonely individuals who find in each other not just friends, but a family that will support and protect them as together they chase their dreams in the face of a world whose systems have been built to squash them underfoot.
All of this is brought together by Oda's exceptional artistic skill. While as mentioned earlier, One Piece's cartoony artstyle isn't for everyone, it's by no means an accident. One Piece is a story set in a cartoon world, and Oda is able to give even his most ridiculous characters and places a tangible sense of physicality, making everything feel real within the confines of the page. While Oda has a team of assistants to help him, he still does the brunt of the art himself, and his dedication to his craft means the comic is full of panels that are breathtaking in their complexity and visual density.
Tumblr media
But it's not just his technical skill that makes the art of One Piece so good, it's that Oda is also very good at letting his art speak for him. Compared to a lot of other big shonen manga, One Piece doesn't lean as heavily on the dialogue to give the readers all the necessary information, but can convey a lot of what is happening and how characters are thinking and feeling through its artwork. There's some sections where this doesn't hold as true (and they are frequently less well-liked as a result) but it makes One Piece a far lighter read than its soon to be 1100 chapter-count would make you believe.
But the thing I think makes One Piece the most exceptional of all, and what makes me recommend it despite its length, is that as a story, One Piece has a remarkable clarity of vision. One Piece has a stance and a worldview that it does not waver on, and it is present from the very beginning. It's is romantic story, about the power of faith and dreams, about people's right to be free and be who they want to be, and about how the beauty and wonder of the world makes its worth its danger and uncertainty.
One Piece knows what it wants to be from the very beginning, and because of that you don't have to wait for it to get good. A problem that a lot of longform media struggles with is that the opening hours are a slog to get through, because it doesn't show you its hand early enough for you to know if it's something you'll like, and that is not a problem One Piece has. It is exactly what it is going to be from the beginning, only in a simpler, cruder form that it is going to expand upon to become the sprawling pirate fantasy epic it has grown to be. This clarity of vision also makes One Piece very rewarding for attentive readers, as it frequently hints at future places and characters, and plants story seeds that it pays off hundreds of chapters later. It does a lot to make the world feel big and interconnected, and makes One Piece very fun to re-read as you pick up on things you missed the first time around.
It is frequently recommended that new readers start with the initial 100 chapters, the East Blue saga (which is what the live action series adapts, for the record), to see if One Piece is right for them, and that's the note I am going to end this post on, as well. East Blue uses its 100 chapters to tell a fairly self-contained story that introduces the first half of the core cast, setting the stakes and building its world while giving you plenty of interesting places, bizarre creatures, and wacky action all the while. It is One Piece showing you its hand, with the promise that if you like what you see, it'll have so, so much more in store for you

if you had to make a dating sim of your ocs who would be in it!!
oh my god anon you don’t even know......... I am the dating sim / otome guy of like 11 years this is my REALM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tbqh I have a little side project on the backburner of making a mini gimmick-y dating sim so initially the answer is like. All of them (though I do plan to make an entire new round of ocs for it so nothing weird happens) but lets see if I can whip up a cast real fast
Tumblr media
Basic loverboy route would be Vlad! He's the classic quirky sweet guy with no crazy skeletons in his closet. His route could have a little angst / hurt-comfort in it though on his end bc he does have an aversion to seeing people bleed if anyones into that (hes a vampire so....the math)
Tumblr media
Slightly meaner would be Sachiko! She's not purposefully mean but definitely pretty aloof and blunt, sort of like the '🙄 gosh ur so hopeless' type of vibe but she loves u. It's very slowburn with her and a big thing is getting close enough for her to share HER love as opposed to just taking (She's a Demon god, specifically Greed!).
Tumblr media
GENUINELY mean route for the tsun-likers out there is Mateo! He's like NOT nice but he's very comically mean and entitiled in a way where it's funny / almost pathetic. She's more actions speak louder than words though so while she's spewing venom she'll still stick around through thick and thin! There's also so much repressed mess with her so the layers need to be peeled back
Tumblr media
sorry that it's a sketch and 5 whole pixels I’m revamping her rn but Biancas the more mysterious and dangerous route (only for the girlies)! She's like a top notch assassin so I can imagine setups where either the MC is her mark or MC witnesses something they Shouldn't. The way to her heart is to get under her skin bc she's very guarded with a nonchalant front which makes talking to her a minefield
Tumblr media
Final 'True' route would be Dizzy I feel! They're shrouded in 1000 layers of nuance, symbolism, and mystery and they're sort of a freakazoid at first glance (and just sort of unpleasant / mean-girl-esque... they're also very fast to throw the first punch a lot) but in the end they're a lover through and through and it becomes clear at some point that they would do Very Heinous Acts for love.
anyway... ty for asking I have a problem ❤️ There are def more ocs I could have included bc I have a bajillion of them and also some ocs that cannot be near a relationship with a 10 ft pole but I still want them (Miah.....Agape.......... Basile.... Harlem...)

Jon Kent (pretty much) Complete Reading Order
Tumblr media
Compiled first for my personal use and tidied up for @jonkentweek ! Goes up to June 2024 and includes every appearance of this character that I could find. I used ComicVine's archive to track these down, which is both fallible and constantly being updated, so there might be some mistakes. Also, I did my best to highlight the occasions where Jon was a significant character in a story and to skip the ones that were just a non-speaking, one-panel cameo, but those were personal judgements and your mileage might vary.
Color key (and apologies for the eye strain): Red are issues in which Jon is a central character, not just a cameo, Blue are crossover events, Orange are stories that take place in alternate universes/are non canonical
Optional stuff you can read for historical context:
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? (1997) a classic possible future story, which is, to my knowledge, the 1st time a character named Jon who is Superman’s kid appears
Son of Superman (1999) a self-contained, now AU, story about a teen Jon Kent, very classic 90s young adult comic with all the tropes that come with that, but enjoyable as the proto-iteration of Jon as an idea
Canon appearances start here
The Final Days of Superman crossover event: Superman (2011) 51-52, Batman/Superman (2013) 31-32, Action Comics (2011) 51-52, Superman/Wonder Woman (2013) 28-29 (This is the origin story of the Clark, Lois and Jon that the comics follow in Rebirth. Largely ignored by writers, as it was written to patch up New52 weirdness, but there are occasional references that might be confusing if you skip it completely.)
Convergence (2015) 5, 8
Superman: Lois and Clark (2015) 1-8 (Establishes Jon and his family in the DCU)
Superman (2016) 1-11, 13, 17-28, 30, 32-36, 38, 40-45, Special 1
Action Comics (2016) 957-972, 974-978, 980-983, 985, 987, 989-1000, 1002, 1005, 1016, 1022-1035, 1042, 1045-1048, 1050-1057, 1059-1060, Special 1, Annual 2023
Justice League (2016) 3-6, 15, 18-19, 22, 28
Trinity (2016) 1-6, 16
Super Sons (2017) 1-16
Dark Nights: Metal (2017) 3, 6
The Man of Steel (2018) 1-6 (central from issue 4 onwards)
Superman (2018) 1, 4-12, 14-16, 20, 29-32
Adventures of the Super Sons (2018) 1-12
Justice League (2018) 9, 23-25, 34, 52, 75, Annual 2022

Lois Lane (2019) 3-4, 6
Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium 2
Legion of Super-Heroes (2019) 1-12
Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child
Green Lantern: Blackstars 2-3
The Terrifics (2018) 25
Teen Titans (2016) 15, 43, 45-46
DCeased: Hope at World’s End (2020) 1, 4-5, 9-15
Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular (in the short Super Sons story)
DCeased: Dead Planet (2020) 1-7
Super Sons: Escape to Landis
Batman/Superman (2019) Annual 1
Challenge of the Super Sons (2020) 1-14
Dark Knights: Death Metal The Last Stories of the DC Universe (2020) (in the Superman short story)
Dark Knights: Death Metal The Secret Origin (2021)
Dark Knights: Death Metal The Last 52 War of the Multiverses (2021) (in the Superman parts of the story)
DC Nation Presents Future State (2020) (intro, information and behind-the-scenes for Future State)
Future State: Superman of Metropolis (2021) 1-2 (Future State is another possible future, meaning that it’s not necessarily canon, but it takes place in the future of the main canon, not in a complete AU, like say, Dark Knights of Steel. Technically not necessary to understand main universe stories, but a few popular characters and characterizations were brought over to the main universe.)
Future State: Justice League (2021) 1-2
Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman (2021) 1-2
Future State: Kara Zor-el, Superwoman (2021) 1
Future State: Legion of Super-Heroes (2021) 2
Infinite Frontier (2021) 0 (establishes the main universe status quo from this point on, feat. a synopsis of Jon’s life up to here)
Challenge of the Super Sons (2021) 1-7
Superman: Son of Kal-el (2021) 1-18, Annual 1
Shazam! (2021) 1
Superman Red and Blue (2021) 6 (in the short story The Special, but this mini series in general is cute and I recommend it)
Justice League vs. The Legion of Super-Heroes (2022) 1-6
Superman & Robin Special (2022) 1
DC’s Round Robin (2021) 2 (in the short story Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow)
Nightwing (2016) 89, 91-92, 101-104, 110, 112-113

Do you have like a Damian Wayne reading guide? I've been meaning to read more to better understand his character
Most of Damian's strongest writing has been pre 2016*. I consider the "Essentials" Batman and Robin 2009, Batman and Robin 2011, and Robin: Son of Batman, but there are plenty of other comics to read as well.
I made this list (link) for lots of 2009 era stuff and what I considered relevant to his character. If you want to read Batman and Son first, that gives some context for Damian's later actions, though as a character DC really didn't know what to do with him until Batman and Robin 2009, he kind of fluctuates all over the place. Certain character attributes he has in Batman and Son are ignored later on.
WRT Rebirth... most of it is not very good for damian's character. The only exception is Tomasi's 'Tec (Detective Comics) has a well-written and fun Damian, especially the Arkham Knight plotline. This was one story in detective comics #1000 (it has many stories), and then 'tec 1001-1005.
*that is changing some with the new B&R writer hopefully, but only like 3 issues are out so far.

What are your favorite Superman moments?
Thank You 😊
I have no select list so I’ll just bring up some that are favorites of mine
Tumblr media
Cause you can’t ever go wrong with moments with Chris and him XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there’s this classic from All Star Superman
Tumblr media
Then you got this one moment from the very first Action Comics that somehow feels more cathartic in its relevance today than I think it did even back then
Tumblr media
Yep that’s Clark straight up taking down a domestic abuser (ignoring that tiny ‘Jian’ edit in this scan)
Then one more from the Golden Age a Rather big huge double whammy
Tumblr media
Yep that’s Clark taking on and straight arresting both Hitler and Stalin at the same time…..Somewhere out there Steve Rogers shed a tear of joy and doesn’t know why XD
Now back to modern panels or at least modern in that they’re drawn by one of my favorite artists, Patrick Gleason XD
Tumblr media
From Action Comics #1000, an Amazing Tribute to the Golden Age
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And two from the first Rebirth Arc with a a blue suit they somehow works in spite of that dominant color scheme
This really is what I can come up with for my favorite moments at the moment (like I could probably list so many of the panels from Superman Smashes The Klan or heck even the Grant Morrison one in the New 52 if I have my thoughts together lol) because there’s frankly so many but this was fun
Thanks @confusedhummingbird XD

Been curiosity-reading comics lately and rather enjoyed Immortal Hulk. I noticed it was Ewing and looked up what he's done, but that's a rather long list of other things he's written-figured it'd be best to ask tumblr user ewingstan for any particular recommendations to look at from here.
Oh dang! Glad you're enjoying yourself. I'll say up front that Ewing likes to use a lot of the same characters across series, and that they tend to have larger arcs between series, so reading all his stuff in order is pretty rewarding. I also provided a few reading lists below the cut. That said, If I were to recommend some highlights:
Iron Man: Fatal Frontier— Co-written with the incredible Kieron Gillen, this is one of Ewing's first series working in Marvel. A mini-series with a great premise (Iron Man acting as basically a sheriff on a Moon colony) and a great take on Stark, emphasizing a pig-headedness that makes him very entertaining to watch. It's also Ewing's first use of Doom as a character, who'll become one of his favorites to use—and damn if he doesn't write a good Doom.
Loki: Agent of Asguard— One of my first experiences with comics, and one that set the benchmark for what you could do with an extended universe. What starts as an interesting setup for a mythical spy storyline spirals into a larger tale of deciding what kind of character you want to be. Technically a follow-up to Gillen's runs on Journey into Mystery and Young Avengers, but these aren't at all necessary—Ewing sets up the context quickly.
Contest of Champions (2015)— An especially zany one, this series lets Ewing indulge in his favorite passtime: bringing back a bunch of unconnected obscure characters and banging them against each other like never before. An excellent showcase of Ewing's abilities to quickly spin a compelling character out of very little.
Avengers: No Surrender and Avengers: No Road Home—These two series have a soft spot for me. Co-written by Ewing, Mark Waid, and Jim Zub, they're both some of the best examples of classic "there's a big weird threat, lets assemble some heroes" storylines to date. They also serve as a culmination of sorts for Ewing's various scattered Avengers series, though they can each be taken on their own. (Those scattered Avengers series are typically quite good, though they tend to be mired in event cross-overs. Usually you'll need to quickly look up the basic premises of the event an issue is tying into to avoid confusion, though larger engagement with the events are unneeded. These two series thankfully avoid that trend).
Guardians of the Galaxy (2020): This is Ewing firing on all cylinders. It arguably requires a bit more comics background to get the full effect, but it employs some of his most interesting ideas and most compelling action. This ended too damn soon.
Now for the reading lists:
Ewing loves working on team books that are 80% made up of heroes the average person has never heard of. Some of his favorites to work with are Blue Marvel, Spectrum, Sunspot, and various iterations of White Tiger. The most direct reading order for what I consider his most classic, pulpy superhero work is going in order from Mighty Avengers (2014), Captain America and the Mighty Avengers (2014), New Avengers (2015), U.S.Avengers (2017), Avengers: No Surrender (Avengers #675-690), Avengers: No Road Home, Empyre, and Avengers Inc.
However, you can alternatively take the Mighty series to be the start of his exploration of Marvel's larger cosmic makeup. For this somewhat separate, trippier storyline, the reading order is Loki: Agent of Asguard, Mighty Avengers (2014), Captain America and the Mighty Avengers (2014), Ultimates, Ultimates ^2, Contest of Champions, Avengers: No Surrender, Avengers: No Road Home, Immortal Hulk, Marvel Comics #1000, Defenders (2021), and Defenders: Beyond. From what I understand, Venom (2021), The Immortal Thor, Venom War and All-New Venom (2024) also follow from this storyline, though I haven't gotten to these yet. Do make sure to check out the tie-in Absolute Carnage: Immortal Hulk, the one saving grace of the whole Danny Cates Venom series.
Finally, you can construct a list focusing on his take on Marvel's interplanetary politics: Royals, Rocket, Empyre, Guardians of the Galaxy, S.W.O.R.D, X-Men: Red, and The Resurrection of Magneto.
Here's a more detailed breakdown with notes on where you can continue specific storylines. Note again that many of these will have tie-ins, just look up the basic premise of whatever event they're connected to and you'll be fine.
Mighty Avengers is directly continued through Captain America and the Mighty Avengers.
After that, Ewing starts working on two different ensemble books: Ultimates (2015) and New Avengers (2015), each using some characters from the Mighty Avengers books. Each of these are followed up in later series, creating two separate storylines. The New Avengers is arguably a more direct continuation of the larger Ewing Avengers storyline.
If you liked Spectrum and The Blue Marvel, and like your sci-fi with a dash of mytho-poetics, start with Ultimates and continue with Ultimates ^2 (2016). The team also makes an appearance at the tail-end of Contest of Champions. Much of the focus on the big cosmic beings it explores gets revisited in Marvel Comics #1000, Defenders, and Defenders: Beyond.
If you liked Power-Man and White Tiger, and want something pulpy and frenetic, start with New Avengers. Optionally, read the 3-issue Ultron Forever miniseries first. Then move on to U.S.Avengers.
After finishing U.S.Avengers, continue onto No Surrender (aka Avengers 675-690.) This is the last hurrah of the team started in New Avengers, and ties back in several characters from the Mighty Avengers runs. If you want more Roberto Da Costa afterwards, check out X-Men: Red.
No Road Home follows up on No Surrender, and follows up a bit more directly with some of the plot threads from the Ultimates series. Optionally read Rocket beforehand. Afterwards, you can continue the storyline it set up in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The event series Empyre, co-written with Dan Slott, follows up on character arcs from the Mighty Avengers with She-Hulk, The Ultimates with Captain Marvel and Black Panther, and from New Avengers with Wiccan and Hulkling. It also sets up storylines in GotG.
Avengers Inc. is not especially related to other works here, though it uses several characters that he's frequently used across his Avengers titles. Optionally read Ant-Man (2022) and Wasp (2023) beforehand.
