cant tell you how bad it feels to constantly tell other artists to come to tumblr, because its the last good website that isn't fucked up by spoonfeeding algorithms and AI bullshit and isn't based around meaningless likes
just to watch that all fall apart in the last year or so and especially the last two weeks
there's nowhere good to go anymore for artists.
edit - a lot of people are saying the tags are important so actually, you'll look at my tags.
#please dont delete your accounts because of the AI crap. your art deserves more than being lost like that #if you have a good PC please glaze or nightshade it. if you dont or it doesnt work with your style (like mine) please start watermarking #use a plain-ish font. make it your username. if people can't google what your watermark says and find ur account its not a good watermark #it needs to be central in the image - NOT on the canvas edges - and put it in multiple places if you are compelled #please dont stop posting your art because of this shit. we just have to hope regulations will come slamming down on these shitheads#in the next year or two and you want to have accounts to come back to. the world Needs real art #if we all leave that just makes more room for these scam artists to fill in with their soulless recycled garbage #improvise adapt overcome. it sucks but it is what it is for the moment. safeguard yourself as best you can without making #years of art from thousands of artists lost media. the digital world and art is too temporary to hastily click a Delete button out of spite

We all know the semi-canonical ‘all the Robins know to hide/duck inside of Batman’s cape, even as adults’ thing.
We also know that Danny ‘is LITERALLY a ghost’ Fenton sucks at remembering his own intangibility while ALSO forgetting to look ahead of him.
All I’m saying is, Danny Fenton (or Phantom, if you’d really like) would absolutely SLAM into Batman on accident while running on roof tops and Bruce ‘Brooding Instinct’ Wayne doesn’t even think twice about letting the kid hide and scanning around for danger before there’s a record scratch of ‘wait who tf is this?’ kicks in.

A clean sheet.
Tumblr media
Before you pass on this, let me assure you this isn’t going to be about laundry, or why your bed needs attention.  Instead, my story begins with soccer, or better put everywhere but here, about football.  Why do we call it soccer?  Because in the U.S., football means something entirely different; just turn on the television any Sunday afternoon.  You’ll see.
This won’t take long.
I’m not much of a fan.  The women’s game I follow, given how awesome they are.  The men’s?  Not so much.  Even so, I was drawn to view the FX documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham, with me just finishing the 15th episode of the second season.  Out of respect for those still watching, I will forego spoilers.
I do, however, want to call your attention to a scene from episode nine of the second season.
Three football journalists/commentators are speaking about the game when the subject of the goaltender’s role comes up.  One of the journalists says,
“Goalkeeper is the hardest position on the field [don’t they call it a “pitch” instead of a field?].  You can … You can make ten saves.  You make one mistake, you’re the villain here.”
He’s right of course.  Who else becomes the villain in similar situations?  Account people, except the “pitch” is the office and the competition isn’t an opponent; it’s with work that demands flawless execution, completed on time, on budget, on strategy.  You think being a goalkeeper is hard, try being an Account person.
An Account person could do 99 things right every day, but if there’s a mistake – a missed schedule, a budget screw-up, a failure to follow-up, you name it – that Account person is the one likely to take the blame, from colleagues, and most especially, from clients.
The difference between a goalkeeper and an Account person is the keeper might miss one shot, maybe two or even three, but the team still can win the game.  An Account person, in contrast, lives in an environment where a single mistake, large or small, trivial or not, quickly can become a force multiplier, putting victory, however you choose to define it, in doubt.
What’s worse is many mistakes are not even made by Account people; someone else -- Planners, Creatives, Media and Production folks, finance people, just about everyone in an agency -- might have a hand in them, or even own them.
You might be thinking, “That doesn’t seem right, and it sure isn’t fair.”  I, however, with respect, think otherwise.
An Account person’s responsibility isn’t necessarily to prevent mistakes – ideal if you can, but pragmatically speaking, not likely with every account every day – but to mitigate them when they occur, as they surely will.  How?  By being quick to respond, thoughtful in suggesting possible solutions, fast to rectify what’s wrong, and certain in the assurance that a mistake made once won’t be a mistake made twice.
Goalkeepers are a team’s last line of defense; they succeed when they achieve what’s called a “clean sheet” --- “Ahh, now I get the title” --meaning a shutout, with no goals allowed.  They do their job well and it can save their team a victory.
Like goalkeepers, Account people are an agency’s last line of defense; they succeed when they achieve a clean sheet on an account, or close to it – incredibly hard, but not impossible -- so when the time comes, their job saves  colleagues from certain defeat.

imagine getting twenty four hours of a fraction of a taste of what marginalized bloggers on this fucking site have been told "doesn't break TOS" for the past 15 years and deciding to openly threaten to just nuke the entire website lmfao

when you're part of a group with structural power over another goup, you really do gotta just learn to say "i am not exempt from 'fuck 'em' when relevant" whenever someone expresses frustration with you or people like you.

Neil Gaiman thoughts? Are you still a fan?
So like I wasn't going to answer this ask because it feels like bait but I have to say something. 2 years ago a friend delivered to me some reputably sourced gossip about something neil gaiman did while working on doctor who, which was not immoral by any metric, but it was so deeply, horribly cringe in like a michael scott way that it permanently altered my view of him. The only reason I've never mentioned this before is because i was afraid of tumblr user neil gaiman seeing it, and the fact that I still don't think I can share it is the albatross around my neck.

Arw you really the author John Green? The same person who wrote The Fault in Our Stars and Looking for Alaska?
Yes, but I published one of those books 19 (?!?!?!) years ago and the other 12 (!?!?!?!?) years ago. What have I been up to since then?
My brother Hank and I started Good.store, which delivers high-quality socks, coffee, and soap to your home and donates 100% of its profit to charity. Through good store, we've raised over $7,500,000 to support efforts to radically reduce maternal mortality in Sierra Leone, where as recently as 2019, one in seventeen women could expect to die in pregnancy or childbirth.
(In fact, technically I am here on tumblr as an unpaid intern for the awesome coffee club, which you should really sign up for if you like ethically sourced coffee that tastes delicious and doesn't enrich billionaires.)
I wrote the novel Turtles All the Way Down and then had a little existential crisis and wrote a nonfiction book called The Anthropocene Reviewed, the latter of which is my first book for adults and my first attempt to write as myself.
I helped produce made a movie adaptation (streaming now on Max!) of Turtles all the Way Down.
I helped raise my kids and supported my spouse as she wrote her book You Are An Artist and created a PBS show about art called The Art Assignment.
I ran the educational media company Complexly and the merch company dftba.com while my brother had cancer.
I bought around 2% of a fourth-tier English football team called AFC Wimbledon. Wimbledon are different from most football clubs because they are owned by their fans, each of whom gets one vote in the club's leadership regardless of how much money they put into the club.
I became obsessed with tuberculosis, the world's deadliest infectious disease (it will kill over a million people this year despite being curable), and how TB both exemplifies and reinforces human-built structures of injustice, which is the subject of a book I'm writing that will come out next year.

"don't make it political!" .... what proportion of death and suffering must occur before politics are involved. if this isn't political, what is even the point of any politics, ever. of democracy. the words are "by the people for the people." if i am going to be left alone by my elected representatives to "figure it out" - to undergo damage, hardship, fear. what the fuck did i elect them for. what was their job. the entire point is that they handle this shit. this is why we were supposed to be electing leaders.
poverty is political. misogyny is political. gun control is political. climate change is political. how much aid a community gets is political. what the fuck are you talking about. it's been political this whole fucking time.
