best friend!xiao who possesses a harsh tone, yet underneath his unfriendly guise, he’s softer than fluffy white clouds painted upon azure skies. it’s not often that he praises you, but on the occasion that he commends you, his words are sure to be genuine — rare gems amongst false crystals of flattery.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

kuai liang isn’t the most affectionate in public. he prefers to show his live through actions rather than words. while in public, he’d have a protective presence over you. if he feels like you’re in any danger, he’ll place his hand on your lower back or do whatever he can to watch over you.

however, in private he’s much more affectionate. he’ll gently place his hands on your waist if he has to pass by you. he loves placing soft kisses on any part of your body. whether it’s your shoulder or your cheek, he always wants you to feel appreciated.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

as a best friend, kuai liang is very loyal. you won’t ever have to fear that he’d betray you. if you need him, he’ll be there in an instant. he shows his appreciation by doing tasks for you, even the minor ones. he wants to show you that you can trust him.

you two always had a mutual respect for one another. after you were recruited by liu kang, he had kuai liang train you personally. the two of you grew to have a mutual respect with another. with that respect grew a romantic relationship.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

boy oh boy kuai liang absolutely enjoys cuddling, especially after a long and strenuous day. his cuddles are strong yet tender, making you feel safe in his arms.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

eventually kuai liang would like to settle down. there’s nothing more he would like than to start a family with the person he truly cares about. you guys have had conversations and it’s something that’s rather debated. you’d like to start a family, but with this war starting between his clan and bi-han’s, starting a family would now would not be the best time to do so.

kuai liang isn’t a neat freak per say, but he does tend to keep everything nice and tidy. he’s not at gordon ramsey’s level but he can cook well. he’s always willing to try something new and if he sees that you’re tired, he’ll take over while you rest.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

if kuai liang had to break things off with his partner he’d do it with utmost respect and honesty. he’d never want to hurt anyone intentionally, not if you were someone he deeply cared about. it would definitely be face to face, that way he’d be able to express himself better.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

kuai liang deeply values commitment and would not rush into marriage without being absolutely sure. after being betrayed by his bi-han, it’s hard to know when you can trust someone. you never really know who’s working on the other side.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

kuai liang is very gentle, both physically and emotionally. he understands the strength of his abilities and is always careful not to hurt you. he’d never forgive himself if he ended up harming you in any way.

emotionally, he is patient and understanding, ready to listen to you if ever need to vent or ramble about anything that’s bothering you.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

kuai liang loves giving you hugs, as well as receiving them. though he mostly reserves them for special moments. his hugs are firm and comforting.

he would wait until he is one hundred percent sure before saying "i love you." he believes in the weight of those words and wants to ensure they are said sincerely and at the right moment.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

kuai liang doesn’t get jealous that easily, but when he does he tends to do little subtle things. for instance, he’s much more affectionate in public. he’d wrap his arm around you, pulling you as close to him as possible. this usually tends to happen whenever johnny tries to shoot his shot.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

kuai liang’s kisses are tender and deliberate, full of meaning. he likes to kiss you on your forehead, lips, and your shoulders. he enjoys being kissed on the neck, finding it comforting. though he also just likes feeling your lips against his.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

kuai liang is gentle and patient with children. He treats them with respect and enjoys teaching them new things. when he’s training children, he’s stern but patient. unlike bi-han, he treats his trainees like one of his own. training with the shirai ryu is no easy task. he wants his trainees to be the best they could be. children often feel safe and valued in his presence.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

morning with kuai liang are calm and structured. he likes having a good routine and often starts the day with some light exercise or meditation. on the days he isn’t training, he enjoys quiet mornings with you, sharing a cup of tea and conversation. if you’re still asleep, he will make sure that he leaves you some breakfast.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

nights with kuai liang are relaxed and peaceful. to unwind, he likes to lay beside you and listen to you ramble for hours until he drifts off to sleep.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

kuai liang reveals things about himself slowly, preferring to build trust over time. he believes in sharing when the moment feels right. with bi-han betraying him and tomas, it's a bit hard to trust people. the fear of people ultimately betraying him in the end hits hard for him.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

kuai liang is incredibly patient. it takes a lot for you anger him. however, his patience starts to run thin if he feels as if you're drawing at straws just to argue with him. even then, he'd never yell at you.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

kuai liang is not one to forget anything about you. he wants you to know how much he appreciates you. from remembering your birthday to how you like your coffee in the morning. you are his person, he'd do anything to make you happy.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

his favorite moment with you would most likely be a quiet, intimate time spent together. one of this favorite moments with you would have to be when he took you to watch the sunset. it was your all time wish and he just had to grant it for you.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

kuai liang is very protective, always looking out for his partner’s safety. with this war going on between his clan and bi-han's new one, he has to ensure that you're safe. whether it's by having you in his sight or by having tomas accompany you, he wants to ensure that you're okay. however, in the off chance that something does happen to you, he will most definitely go after the person to hurt you. for kuai liang, he appreciates being protected emotionally, knowing his partner has his back. loyalty is definitely a big one for him.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

kuai liang puts a lot of effort into everything he does, especially when it comes to his partner. dates, anniversaries, and gifts are planned thoughtfully. he pays a bunch of attention to what his partner likes and values.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

though he does try his best to spend his time with you, he does get involved with his work too heavily. with the war against his brother, he has to train his clan to be ready for anything. another one of his "ugly" traits would be his tendency to internalize his stress and emotions, sometimes making it hard for him to open up when he’s struggling. he might also be overly critical of himself.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

kuai liang is moderately concerned with his appearance. he believes in presenting himself well but he doesn’t obsess over it too much. his main focus is on being disciplined and maintaining his physical condition.

ABSOLUTELY!! you are his entire world. you bring a different kind of balance in his life. without you, he doesn't have that structure or balance.

kuai liang is a light sleeper and often wakes up early. in case of an attack, he has to be up and ready to fight. he prefers to sleep on his back or side.

A = AFFECTION (how affectionate are they and how do they show affection?) He needs a little bit of time to get completely comfortable with being openly affectionate to you, but once he does, there is affection galore! In many little ways - running to hug you after being apart, making you tea, reading to you, questioning you about your interests. And he likes to feel you close at all times, whether it’s just pinky fingers interlocked in a public setting, or an evening cuddle session.

B = BEST FRIEND (what would they be like as a best friend and how would the friendship start?) He would be a really nice best friend, you would be able to confide in him about anything, you’d lean onto each other during tough times, but it would also be balanced out with a good amount of jokes, little adventures, and of course trading books!

C = CUDDLES (do they like to cuddle & how?) He is a cuddly person through and through, he will initiate it relatively often, but if you want to make him extra happy, you be the one who suggests a cuddle session. He likes to read with you while you cuddle, so a common position would be your head leaning on his shoulder and one of his arms around you, while he holds a book in the other.

D = DOMESTIC (do they want to settle down; how are they at cooking/cleaning?) Probably yes, he loves his home and he is comfortable there, but what would make it even better is if you stayed forever! Frodo is pretty neat and clean, maybe not the best cook, but at least he is tidy. If you like to cook, he will enthusiastically learn from you, or just hang around while you do it.

E = ENCHANTED (what was their first opinion/feeling about you when you just met?) He was eavesdropping on you a little bit as you talked to a friend of yours about something you were passionate about, and he found it so charming that he immediately decided he needed to build up the courage to go and talk to you, because you sounded so interesting. And he loves an interesting conversation!

F = FIANCE(E) (how do they feel about commitment; how quickly would they want to get married?) Commitment - yes, for sure! However he takes a bit of time to make up his mind about taking such an important step, and he wants to know as certainly as possible how you feel about it. He’d never want you to feel forced into anything or to regret such a big decision, maybe he even overthinks it a little bit.

G = GENTLE (how gentle are they, physically and emotionally?) Come on he is The Baby!!! He is so soft and loving towards you in all the possible love languages and he is absolutely the kindest little soul!!!

H = HUGS (do they like hugs, how often, what are they like?) Big fan of hugging, he will hug you at any given opportunity, he’ll literally run to you and hug you when he sees you after a few hours of being apart! His heart flutters when you do the same, especially if it’s in public, since his reputation isn’t exactly the most amazing - it means a lot to him when you show him off a bit.

I = I LOVE YOU (how fast they say the L-word) I think he falls in love pretty quickly but he would push the feeling aside, or try to, because at first he thought he doesn’t have much of a chance with you… wrong! Even after you begin to return some of his affections, he would put the “L-word” on hold, but eventually when he confessed it was super romantic - maybe a poem or a letter with rose petals inside of it while he waited anxiously somewhere behind a corner to see your reaction.

J = JEALOUSY (how jealous do they get and how they act then) Frodo is not jealous at all, he is literally too pure for that and he trusts you endlessly. In case someone is bothering you a bit too much, you can just give him a “save me” look and he will be there in an instant, more worried for you than jealous. Sometimes he will deem someone more suitable for you than himself, so he might grow a little quiet while pondering his insecurities, but if you kiss him on the lips in front of everyone, the negative feelings will dissipate rather quickly.

K = KISSES (what are their kisses like, where do they like to kiss you/be kissed?) He’s a little bit shy when it comes to kissing you and a little hesitant, so he appreciates it if you take charge when it comes to that, at first. Later on he will kiss you without a second thought, and he relishes in kissing you on the cheeks, you’re just so cute and precious (oops)!!! Maybe he won’t go for it in public, but if you kiss him on the lips in front of others he will blush FURIOUSLY but he will be unable to wipe the smile off of his face. Also he’s very respectful and will kiss you on the back of your hand a lot.

L = LOVE LANGUAGE (what is their love language and how they show you love) Acts of service and words of affirmation! I don’t think I need to explain the ‘acts of service’, but as for words of affirmation, he’s a nerd who reads a lot and has a wide vocabulary in more than one language - you’ll often find him lavishing you with compliments and sweet declarations of love. Maybe quality time as well.

M = MORNINGS (how are mornings spent with them) I think he could be a morning person! As much as he wants to cuddle with you a bit longer while you’re still asleep, he will most likely get up, open the windows, put some tea to brew so that you wake up to fresh tea. If he wakes up early enough, he will even go outside to pick you a few flowers to give you as soon as you open your eyes so that your day starts in the best possible ways. 

N = NICKNAMES (do they like to use cute nicknames for you/you for them?) Actually not so much, he likes to stick to the classics like ‘dear’ or ‘love’, and he likes it when you call him that as well.

O = OPEN (when would they start revealing things about themselves; everything at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?) Somewhere in between. You two build a solid friendship, and then a relationship, through a lot of talking about all things, and a lot of pretty good communication, and some things just pop up with time. He grows to trust you more than anyone and knows he can confide in you with basically anything, however big or small.

P = PATIENCE (how easily angered are they?) Literally never ever, especially not at you! He gets more annoyed than angry with things, and he will absolutely vent to you about anything. At some point he will stop himself and be like “sorry, did I burden you too much” but you think it’s kinda cute when he’s ranting about something.

Q = QUIZZES (how much would they remember about you – every little detail you mention in passing or do they kind of forget most things?) He remembers quite a lot and he likes to learn things about you, about things you like, things from your past, things you love. He will ask you to elaborate on anything and everything and then listen to you with a smile on his face.

R = REMEMBER (favorite moment in your relationship) When he first introduced you to his besties!!! He was and is SO proud to be with you, and he had a feeling they would love you but he was still a little bit anxious because that’s just how he is. But of course you hit it off immediately, and before you knew it you could turn to Sam for advice, or have inside jokes with Merry and Pippin, and all that makes Frodo so happy - he is close to them, and you’re his special person, so his heart triples in size when he sees you getting along.

S = SECURITY (how protective are they; how they'd like to be protected and how they protect you) A moderate amount - he has a lot of respect for you and your independence, but at the same time he can be a little anxious. If needed be, he will stand up for you, or get you out of a situation as soon as you give him The Look, but he won’t necessarily step in if you seem to have everything under control. Sometimes you can be a bit too defensive of him, which is especially understandable after the quest, so if you shut down any rude comments he will be relieved, but sometimes reassure you that you don’t need to expose yourself for his sake that much. 

T = TRY (how much effort do they put into dates, gifts, anniversaries, everyday stuff) Frodo is a very romantic soul, and he will try to create special moments with you as often as possible, but still manage to keep you on your toes. On some extra special days, like birthdays and anniversaries, you can expect really well-thought out gifts (gifts, plural), which show that he really knows you and really listens to what you say and what you want. On other regular days, he will get you flowers in the morning, get you your favorite book for no special reason, or ask Sam to help him prepare food for a romantic picnic on a hill at sunset.

U = UGLY (some bad habits of theirs) He can be in his head a lot and he can zone out relatively easily, especially when he’s bored (he hates being bored so he often turns to his imagination). It’s not necessarily that bad of a habit

V = VANITY (how concerned are they with their looks?) As long as he’s clean and has clean clothes on, he is good to go. He will most definitely ask you for your opinions, and if he notices that you particularly like when he wears this or that shirt, he will make sure to wear it more often. Maybe he even likes to match with you in subtle ways!

W = WISH (something that they really want to do/experience with you?) He would love love love to visit Rivendell with you once more, but this time without any burdens or threats. It’s such a magical and comforting place, and he would love nothing more but to enjoy it with you in peace, listen to elvish music, take long walks and appreciate all the stunning nature. 

X = XTRA (a random headcanon for them) Not the best of singers, but he’s very talented with words and writes quite decent poetry. At first he doesn’t want you to see it, maybe only for your birthday or anniversary he might write you a little something. Obviously, you love it, and that boosts his confidence and encourages him to show you more of his works.

Y = YUCK (what are some things they dislike generally or in a partner?) He despises violence, obviously even more after the quest!!! Boy just wants to live in peace!!!

Z = ZZZ (a sleep habit of theirs) He quietly mumbles nonsense in his sleep on the nights when he’s extremely tired, and sometimes it can be super funny! Also it’s a habit that he pulls you closer in his sleep if he doesn’t feel you nearby anymore… adorable!

Not only acknowledged. Embraced and encouraged.

They saw it that way themselves so their perspective was always one of acknowledging the love between Xena and Gabrielle as a romantic and/or sexual love.

Because once they saw it themselves - that was it. They never saw it any other way from that point on.

And a lot of people that were apart of the creation of the show have had that same experience where once they saw the love there being more than just friends while simultaneously developing on the friendship… they’ve become shippers just as much as the fans.

It’s very difficult to not ship Xena and Gabrielle to be honest. Their written dynamic is just too perfect for it. And then there’s the chemistry between Lucy and Renee that just takes it to whole other levels of quality and viewing and interpreting the show as an epic romance/love story makes the show far more significant and compelling than it is without doing that because sure the storytelling is good as it is and is tight and well-written without the romantic aspect to it… but it’s 100x more valuable to watch with it. The writing is far more profound, the themes are more important… it just HITS better. I can promise you that.

It’s the one TV show that was never meant to be a romance initially that feels right as a romance because the storytelling just absolutely thrives on it and with it. And I know many would disagree with me on this but I honestly think if you don’t, the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle can actually seem quite abusive because their love and devotion to each other can only really work as healthy if it’s perceived as a romance. If you perceive it as purely platonic - there are issues. And I won’t go into here but let’s just say that those issues can’t easily be waved away if it’s just friendship.

And you see the thing with me is I don’t separate the friendship from the romance or the romance from the friendship. I don’t see these aspects as two completely separate and different aspects. They’re intrinsically combined and it all helps to illustrate a stronger storytelling. The writing flourishes this way.

I’ve never understood the notion of separating friendship and romance. I would think you would need to be a friend to somebody you’re in love with. I don’t really see how it could be a real romance without that. But it just goes to show you how bad the writing of WLW representation is today in TV art/entertainment storytelling that the need to do this is so prevalent. It’s like yeah. They’re friends. They’re best friends. But that doesn’t negate that they’re lovers. If anything - I would say it validates the romance aspect even more.

And I think Lucy and Renee ultimately picked up on this and realized the story is just better all around when viewing and interpreting them as a romance because some storytelling in TV shows can actually suffer when involving romance - no matter whether it’s straight or queer. But Xena is not one of those shows. It thrives. It thrives so well that the censorship makes no damn difference to it. Sometimes it even helps it.

And these are whole ass multidimensional people. Realistic characters to relate to and resonate with. Their individual arcs aren’t sacrificed in any way and that’s what evolves their relationship into a romance. So it’s the complete opposite to what you normally get with WLW representation. There’s no compromise with Xena. You get great storytelling and you get a great romance/love story. And they aid each other. They enhance each other. It makes the most sense. I view it as a love story because it works best that way. There are shows I watch where I just wish the romance was not apart of it at all because it compromises the storytelling for the characters and their developments. But I’ll say it again - ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ is not one. The romance aspect in this show is incredibly natural. Now if you’re talking about all the OTHER love interests and love relationships in the show for Xena and Gabrielle - that’s a different story. That almost always feels unnatural. Especially when it’s straight. And that’s because the creators expect you to see it like that. They expect you to feel funny watching that shit because what they’re doing with it is straight-baiting because at that point they’re team X&G all the way. There’s really only one other romantic/sexual relationship that doesn’t feel funny or odd or wrong when you watch it and that’s Xena and Ares but that’s because Ares is there to serve as Xena’s darker side and even Ares himself eventually acknowledges it’s not him that’s meant to be with Xena. It’s Gabrielle. And creators that aren’t on the WLW/queer love train just don’t do that. Don’t write scenes where straight characters that have feelings for a queer character realize that they’re not the right person for them and their own evolution is affected by that very realization.

You just gotta watch it and you’ll pick all of this up too.

Well, I don't actually write Smut at all (closest I'll come is Lime, and usually I'll only write Orange. I've never actually written even a Lemon, let alone anything more hard core than that), and the closest I get to Crack is 'here is a silly thing that canonically could happen' rather than true crack.

Sooooo....

Drama (angst, fluff, serious, comedy, and bunch of other stuff rather than a heavy focus in just one type.) FAR and away my favorite.

Angst & Whump (as old fanwoman is old and I go by the definition that ANGST is mental/emotional 'harm' that may have a physical element or trigger, but is all about the emotions and mind. Meanwhile Whump is physical 'harm' that may have an emotional/mental element or trigger, but is all about the physical). I generally prefer it to be an ELEMENT of a story, and I strongly prefer hurt/comfort, but I do have some instances fics / ficbits that are (mostly) solid angst and I'm more likely to have Angst scenes / elements in my works than Fluff

Fluff: tends to be only sparingly and mixed in admist other things, and even my 'pure' fluff pieces like A Cure for Boredom were cahracter and fan-lore explorations alongside the fluff. Mostly because pure fluff BORES ME ^^;;

Ellipses, probably XD I actually try to alter my writing style to a degree depending on who the viewpoint character is, but I am ANYTHING but brief (even though I know brief / less is more is the 'in' thing now). So I tend to have lots of details and asides and descriptions and trend much more towards being VERY wordy

Oh yeah, many things XD There's always at least ONE 'fix it' in every fic I write. Sometimes small, sometimes BIG... I try to give my reasoning for any / all changes, I do my best to respect that other people may have totally different takes than me. But yeah, there's always fix-its in my fics for things that bug me or that I flat out hate

Heck, in an example that I'm currently writing (well, re-writing as back in the Naughts this darn thing was COMPLETE and now I'm re-writing it from memory XD ). In As the Wyrm Turns and my fanfic Universe in general....

I moved Marineville. I've always HATED that it's canon location for a REALLY LONG LIST OF REASONS THAT ARE VERY VALID DARN IT, so I moved it to Maine (Isle Au Haut specifically). On top of solving most of my list o' issues, it also meant that I could have the Aquaphibians living in or near 'Atlantis' ^^

It is normal that all the references to Rose exist in the DW series after season 4.

Without her, the Doctor would probably not be what he is today. And she is also the greatest love he had. He can't forget her. He will always love her unconditionally.

But past Ten, it's (for me and much of the fandom) platonic.

Yes, we see that the Doctor retains his feelings even beyond regenerations. Ne 9 to 10 for Rose. From 11 to 12 for Clara. From 10 to 14 for Donna.

But what many forget once again for Ten's love for Rose is that these were not feelings acquired purely normally like with Nine or Ten with the friendships he made. Ten's romantic love for Rose wasn't just a feeling, it was the core of his identity. What made him who he was.

The regeneration of Ten into Eleven is summed up like this : All that I am dies, a new man arrives.

If everything Ten is dies, knowing that the core of who he is is his romantic love for Rose, well it makes sense that that romantic love dies with him and he becomes a new man through Eleven.

Does Eleven remember Rose ? Yes. Is it still as important ? Yes. Does he still love her ? Yes. Is he still in love with her ? No.

This is not possible with the way the regeneration of 10 was handled.

Some of you refuse to understand that regeneration can be completely influenced by the Time Lord unconsciously or consciously. If Ten saw regeneration as death, she did the work to be the equivalent.

And if everything that made Ten who he was died with his romantic love for Rose being the core of his identity, well it died with him.

And there's nothing in the rest of the series to prove that the Doctor is still in love with Rose whether you like it or not (even if you are free to believe it, but do not impose this vision on others).

The Moment taking the form of Rose each time he speaks to the Doctor, Eleven's subtle reaction upon hearing the title Bad Wolf, the reference from Jack to Rose when he speaks to 13's companions, with her nearby, Rose Noble calling herself Rose, 15 saying she loved Rose in the past tense. All this does not prove that the Doctor is still in love with Rose currently (Besides, the dialogue with 15 is rather clear on this...).

It just drives home the obvious that Rose was the most impactful companion for the Doctor / in his life. Which is the truth.

Moreover, the other fundamental aspect of the 10th Doctor's identity is to love humanity to the point of wanting to become human. Knowing that this renewed love for humanity comes from Rose, therefore linking his desire to be human also to Rose... Have you seen the Doctor after his tenth incarnation wanting to be human again ? The answer is obviously no.

And no, I will never consider Moffat's words as the absolute truth. Even if he says that Eleven is still in love with Rose, it doesn't matter to me. For what ? Because there's a rule in film / TV called show don't tell. Moffat says, but doesn't show. Worse, he says it in an interview, not even in the series. And not everyone reads interviews. I heard that once he even said that the Doctor would find River on the moon once he died. Something else that was never even hinted at in the series. Who really believes this shit will ever happen ? It's ridiculous. It's the same guy who wrote the episode about madame de pompadour dammit... As if I was going to take his opinion into consideration.

do you think mike had any realizations about his feelings in s2? like during the shed scene or the snowball? you mentioned in a post his "oh" moment at the end of s3 so i was curious if you think he realized anything before then!

i don't think so, no. he clearly loved will more than words could say, and in a way that separated him from will's other friends, but i don't think he had any idea of what was to come. he was just a boy loving as freely and fiercely as he possibly could before the world told him he shouldn't, and trying his very best to stop the past from repeating itself.

he didn't want to lose his best friend, and with no super hero around to help them this time, he felt he had to take matters into his own hands. will was kidnapped on his way home from his house, and he heard just how scared will was when he was all alone in the upside down, trying his best to stay alive while being hunted by a monster. there's no way he was going to let will go through that alone again—just absolutely no way at all. he couldn't help the first time, but he could help the second time. that's why he was by his side from start to finish. that's why he didn't stop until will was really and truly safe.

i think that the love mike and will share is one that just... is beyond words. there is no beginning or end—it simply is. they've known each other for what is practically their entire lives; they have a mutual understanding that doesn't need to be verbalized to be received; they fit in such a complementary way that to be without each other knocks their world askew.

like. they have just always been different. they've always been mike and will. will has always looked to mike and confided in him, and mike has always treated will way differently than everyone else, including el. the love has always been there, whether they knew what it was or they didn't. that's why will still thinks it'll be them together forever even though mike is dating el and has totally tossed him to the side in favor of her, and why mike even brings that up in the first place. some friendships are so intense that they exist in this indeterminate state that encompasses many dynamics all at once—theirs is certainly one of them.

i feel that that's further supported with how their behavior towards each other is so consistent. that's why it's so hard to pick a specific moment where things changed, because really... not much has. not when you look at the core dynamic and how their souls fit. it's just always been this way.

and that familiarity is exactly what can make it so easy to miss. the tagline for st3 was "one summer can change everything," and it did! we know from hopper's letter that things most certainly did change! and that scared him! it woke him up! he wanted to turn back the clock and go back to how things were! but he can't. and then.... well, things go to shit, which makes it seem like he didn't realize anything at all, but i think he did.

so, no. i don't think mike knew at that point, but, unlike many, i don't think that takes anything away from their relationship at all. mike's love was true when he said that asking will to be his friend was the best thing he's ever done, when he promised will they wouldn't let the shadow monster spy back, and when he promised they'd go crazy together. mike is a wonderful friend with a beautiful heart. it's tempting to color those scenes as purely romantic, but i don't think mike meant them that way. he just loved and cared for his friend very much and wasn't yet afraid to let him know that or just how much.

That’s absolutely fine, no worries!! My rules should’ve been in the post I’ve pinned to the top of my feed though, did it not appear? :)

Again, a disclaimer that however these characters appear in the content I make is purely how I perceive them, and not how Kubo wrote them. There’s not enough information canonically to fully flesh them out, but hopefully this is good enough!

Also I omitted Kumoi and Zenjou because I honestly got completely stumped when it came to those two, so apologies for that. If you want theirs to be written out, feel free to send in another request!

ORIGINAL GOTEI 13 HAVING A CRUSH ON THEIR CHILDHOOD FRIEND

Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni

Yamamoto is a man of strong and unwavering intentions -- if he has a crush on his childhood friend, it’s likely that such feelings came from a deep place within his heart, and that these feelings are solidified after a long period of contemplation. Whether he acts upon them is another matter, but when he admits those feelings even to himself, know that they come from a place of long and detailed contemplation.

It depends which period of his life he’s currently living. If Yamamoto was living in a (relatively) peaceful time, before the war where he was teaching in the academy he set up, certainly he would be encouraged to act upon those feelings. However, if it was during wartime or immediately post-war, Yamamoto would push them aside. It’s not that he wants to wait for the right timing or feels that you don’t deserve such an important announcement in the wake of such destruction, but rather his mind is occupied by other matters. When it comes to killing the Quincy and manifesting a romantic relationship, the choice is simple. 

Nonetheless, I think he would definitely sit you down and tell you about them over a cup of tea. Yamamoto doesn’t pressure you to giving him an answer, nor into a relationship - but he definitely wants to maintain your friendship. Rather, he would walk into that confession having faith in your friendship, because he ultimately values the strength of your bond and the connection you share over any potential romantic love between you two.

Shihouin Chika

With this man, you’ll need to wrestle an answer out of him before he tells you upfront what exactly he wants to tell you. Spending so much time in proximity with Chika means that you can tell any irregularities in his behaviour, even if he acts like nothing is wrong, so you’ll need to wheedle him because he doesn’t and won’t tell you first. 

But when confronted with it, Chika won’t dance around the topic. He’ll just tell you upfront about his feelings, just like that. Though he acts like he doesn’t care, Chika definitely does. He cares a lot about your response, about your feelings, and your friendship. Childhood friendships are precious to him, especially if you’re someone he actually gets along well with because in nobility circles, true friends are hard to come across. 

A romantic relationship with Chika would hardly deviate from your friendship with him, largely because I don’t think an intimate relationship would change much regardless, except there would be more romantic physical intimacy. In the period of time after you gave him your response, you would probably be very confused because Chika doesn’t seem to be much affected by your acceptance/rejection. It’ll come clearer afterwards - if you accepted his feelings, he would start becoming more physically affectionate (e.g. brushing your cheek with a kiss, which is something he doesn’t do as friends). If you rejected him, you’d realise him withdrawing for a while before resuming the sense of closeness from before. Chika’s not very good with putting his feelings in words (he rehearsed before confessing to you, but even then it was very blunt), so he shows his emotions through actions and behaviour. 

Izuhara Kinroku

I don’t think this man would particularly be interested in keeping up relationships with his childhood friends, so if you managed to arouse interest in him, then you should be proud of yourself, because that’s no small feat. I imagine you would’ve been lingering in the back of his mind for a while, perhaps a memory from the distant past that floats up occasionally. Maybe he catches sight of something and is reminded of you, and a sense of fondness spreads within his chest. 

At any rate, when you’re united -- highly likely after the war, I’d imagine -- he doesn’t say anything. Not that Kinroku was ever a man of much words, but unspoken understanding has always been your chosen language. He treats you with a sense of tenderness - not afraid that you’re easily broken, exactly, but as children, relationships are tinged with a sense of gentleness that is now a stranger to him, whose life was forged on sentiments of harshness and the principle of ‘life or death’ -- and it’s clear that the reunion is rather awkward. 

Is it a crush or is it merely affection for you in a world where he feels apathy for everyone else? Hard to say. Kinroku certainly spends more time with you, talking to you more than he ever has (or at least, any of the other Captains had ever seen), taking walks, all the mundane moments he can steal away from his Division. Even if he realises he has romantic feelings for you, I don’t think he’d admit or make them into a reality. Largely because he doesn’t view them as a necessity to his life, nor does he want to infuse major lifechanging change into his routine. Also probably because he has never experienced romantic feelings for anyone before, or at least to the extent that it’s strong enough for him to act upon them. So he shows his affection by spending more time with you - that, I think, speaks more than enough.

Shijima Chigiri

Chigiri is an enigma both inside and outside. He acts indifferent most of the time, and it's hard to really tell what he's thinking. That said, if you spend enough time with him, you can notice the little hints he let slip. A hint of a smile on his lips when he’s looking at you, handing over a tissue when you’re sniffling, buying the tea leaves you’ve been eyeing for a long time. Small gestures build up to his intentions.

He won’t tell you how he feels. That’s not how Chigiri works, and it’s unlikely you’ll ever realise unless you pay attention. But as his childhood friend, you’ve seen the side of him that was more…open, before he decided to subdue his emotions. There are telltale signs of his feelings, and you also have ways of drawing them out if you want to — he acts more relaxed around you, and the trust from the past starts to resurface. For a few moments, he lets his guard down and actually shows how much he likes you.

For some reason, I imagine him as a nature guy?? As in he’s the type to pick flowers and gift them to you? Insane, I know. Chigiri buried that part of him when he becomes an assassin, and he doesn’t really see it as necessary after he becomes part of the Gotei 13, but with you, that vulnerable side comes out again. Any Squad member or fellow Captain of the Gotei 13 would raise an eyebrow at the 4th Captain carrying flowers of all things, so he has someone leave it at your desk or doorstep. He won’t admit to sending it, but the calligraphy is clearly his, and the message on the piece of paper is enough to give you a small smile.

Obana Danjirou 

Ah, we finally have an honest and straightforward guy. Danjirou doesn’t see the point of dancing around the point of anything — he prefers to be upfront about his feelings about everything, and that’s no exception…except when it comes to romantic feelings.

He doesn’t splutter or lose his composure, exactly. Danjirou just feels a little…embarrassed, I guess? It’s definitely not his first venture with love, but somehow confessing to his childhood crush feels a little strange. You’re one of the few people who knew him before he started killing people for a living, and all his embarrassing stories when he’s a kid and all that, so he knows he can’t put up a front when it comes to you, because you can just see right through it.

He invites you out to a dinner — a nice Japanese restaurant with the food prepared with fine ingredients. Not too expensive, because he doesn’t want it to be too formal (and that’s not how he does things, anyways), and he tells you what has been hanging on the tip of his tongue for the past few weeks. Again, not overtly serious, but genuine enough that you know that he’s not joking around. Danjirou walks you back home afterwards and everything - he doesn’t wait around for an answer and doesn’t demand one, but secretly he hopes you’d say yes. 

Saitou Furoufushi 

Furoufushi’s first priority in life is not romance, and it’ll never be. I don’t think she’d recognise the feelings as romance anyways -- if she has an affection scale, the highest is probably best friend. I don’t think she’s aromantic necessarily -- I believe she’s capable of falling in love if and when that happens, but for now having a close intimate friend is enough for her.

There won’t be much difference in how you’ll be treated physically and even verbally. Maybe you’ll get called your nickname, but that’s how you were referred to all the time anyways, since you were childhood friends. To the external onlooker, you two tumble around like puppies, playfighting and wrestling, all the schtick.

Honestly, I don’t think Furoufushi’s attitude towards you would change much. Again, since she’s not the character who’s too overtly into romantic love, I imagine it’ll just be the same. I don’t think even you would notice. Maybe she wants to spend more time with you, but that’s about the most obvious change you’ll notice. 

Shigyou Nobutsuna 

Nobutsuna...is a hard man to read. His live revolves around few things -- eating, sleeping, killing, etc. Inter-personal relationships with others aren’t on the top of his priority list either, but he does make time for those he cherishes. 

And that includes you, of course. As his childhood friend, you’re already closer to him than most people are, largely because outside of his Gotei 13 duties and everything else he has to do, Nobutsuna doesn’t really have the patience nor energy to ‘get to know’ other people or be close to them. You’re already ahead in the intimacy game, and you know it.

I imagine the only significant change that occurs is again, spending more time together. And maybe physical intimacy. He doesn’t seem like the type who is too eager on that front (not that many people would dare to approach him either, with his appearance), so if he initiates that, you know you’re special. But not anything too much, or obvious. Maybe catching your wrist when you stumble, or leaning against you when he’s tired. He’ll even come to you for small favours. Like bandaging his wounds or something. 

Katori Batsu’unsai 

One would assume that Batsu’unsai is the type to wear her heart on her sleeve. And maybe we’re right - who knows? I certainly imagine her to be that way - a small smile for everyone, a little flustered at times but completely ruthless on the battlefield. 

She doesn’t start out that way, though. Kindness has to be learnt in the chaotic mess of a world that Soul Society was, and you’ve seen the side of her that she tries to keep buried. When you start showing up, she lets her guard down, just a little, around you. 

Batsu’unsai would be the type of woman to be upfront about her feelings, contrary to how her appearance would suggest. She doesn’t shy away from having romantic feelings for a special someone, and she doesn’t dance around the topic. Doesn’t mean she’d be blunt about it, but that she’ll just be more straightforward about it. You can tell the shift in her mood when it happens - and unlike many others, she won’t be excessively afraid of turning a long friendship into a romantic relationship, because she has enough trust in the bond you two share. 

Outokawa Furuoki

Furuoki has a constant stream of admirers from everywhere, and he knows this. Hence why he’s less enthusiastic about starting a relationship, less so with someone he hardly knows. Luckily for you, you two have been friends since a young age. 

In my previous headcanons, I imagine him as a ronin of sorts -- fallen nobility who had to fight to defend himself from outsiders. If you two are childhood friends, it’s likely you two came from the same background, which makes it better because you have a better understanding of the turmoil he’d been through. There’s hardly anyone in his life left that he really whole-heartedly trusts, but if there’s one person, it’d be you.

You two spend a lot of time alone regardless of whether he was actually harbouring romantic feelings for you - having tea together, taking hikes in nature if you’re an outdoor person, or just taking casual walks together in Seireitei if you’re not. The level of intimacy you share is so obvious and so taken for granted (i.e. it’s natural for you to be together) anyways that when the relationship turns romantic, it doesn’t come as a surprise for either of you two. 

Unohana Yachiru

Another one that I imagine you two to be reunited after the war instead of having spent time together from childhood to adulthood. This can be for various reasons - maybe you were scared and distanced yourself from your friend-turned-murderess. Maybe she ran away from where you grew up to take up the art of the sword. Whatever the reason, when you two finally found each other after the war, there’s an obvious sense of familiarity but awkwardness at the same time - it feels like coming to a home that you no longer recognise.

It takes time to reforge and rekindle your relationship. Contrary to your expectations and the rumours, Yachiru doesn’t act as bloodthirsty as you’d thought (or at least, in front of you). And to her, you’re no longer the naive individual from that many years ago.

And it takes even longer for her to admit she has a crush on you. She’ll probably never tell you, due to whatever reasons she tells herself. You’ll have to figure it out yourself, but even then, you’ll never get an answer. Perhaps you two automatically gravitate towards one another, and end up sharing an intimate relationship that way. Who knows? 

Sakahone Shizou

I imagine y’all would’ve been married already. Like come on, this man looks like he’s on the verge of death. If y’all are still going on with the slow-burn game, you don’t have much time. If he hasn’t gotten a grip and confessed, you’re probably already married to someone else.

THE AMOUNT OF SHIT I HAVE FOR THE MAFIA HELP-

ANYWAY All the mafia are pretty closeknit w/ each other, though I like to think there’s a split between the “older” members (Godfather, Consigliere, Hypnotist, Blackmailer) and the “younger” members (Consort, Janitor, Forger, Disguiser and Framer). The Mafioso is kinda split between the middle, getting along with both sides. Ambusher came much later to the mafia and as such is also kinda caught in these disagreements between the two sides. Also I say younger and older very vaguely.

Blackmailer is very rarely seen, even by the mafia. Everyone in the mafia completely trusts them though, especially since they have dirt on everyone. They’re treated like some entity that you ABSOLUTELY do not want to piss off and the Blackmailer takes pride in that they are probably the most terrifying thing. Purely because they know your internet history. Do not question how they got that information.

Mafioso/Ambusher is a funny dynamic. I like to think they constantly try to one up each other, trying to impress the Godfather.

The Ambusher used to be the Survivor, but ended up befriending the Mafioso. They both bond over the whole “yeah I really don’t know where my place is in all of… this.” And because of their friendship, the Survivor learns to calm themselves and not get so panicky, whilst the Mafioso opens up a bit more and tries to not be. As much of a mindless drone. Survivor ends up getting too comfortable and joins the mafia.

The Mafioso is sick of the Framer’s shit. Framer is a little shit. They don’t know what they’re doing wrong, but it annoys the Mafioso regardless.

Godfather and Mayor are brothers. Or, at least related to some degree.

Please know I die for the Consigliere/Godfather dynamic just. Boss and assistant who place so much fucking trust into each other and would probably die for each other. Whether you interpret them as being lovers or friends is up to you, though I can take it. Either way - it really depends on the characters.

HOW THE FUCK DID I FORGET CONSORT/CONSIGLIERE AS BESTIES DANG IT ME- WELL OKAY. They’re either at each other’s throats, or they’re besties. It’s a gamble ngl. I personally headcanon that the mafia has two Consiglieres (Card game and In game) and the Consort would throttle the Card Game bc he’s “so self absorbed” but adores the In game consigliere and would spoil her.

Furthermore, In game consigliere declares herself as the Mafioso’s right hand gal. He plays along, but would never actually trust her as his right hand gal her due to her being incredibly bias and emotionally driven. He would gladly trust the card game though (his boss already does), even if they have numerous disagreements with how to handle the whole dynamic.

Consort/Forger is the mean bisexual, even meaner lesbian dynamic. You can guess whose who. They are both girlbosses and will chat shit about you.

Disguiser is the Hypnotists son. They have a pretty strained relationship thanks to Hypnotism bullshit. Why else do you think Disguiser always wears a mask?

(Also stupider headcanon - but Disguiser is actually the Mafioso from the card game. I have no reason to believe this really I just like card game mafioso’s design and wanted a reason to acknowledge his existence.)

The entire Coven and Mafia get into petty fights. I say petty its more “jfc we helped the witch and now you wanna kill us?” “You guys are literally criminals and also why are you in salem?” “TIME TRAVEL FUCKERY THAT YOU DID” “THEN TIME TRAVEL BACK DIPSHIT-“ “THATS YOUR ISSUE” “OH IS IT NOW?”

The town and neutrals probably just. Watch these two go at it in awe. It gets more and more unhinged.

For some reason Disguiser is close with the coven though. Why else do you think the Coven got the Disguiser during the traitors era?

Speaking of the Coven. They are lesbians. I do not know what impact this has on the lore, but I feel that is important to mention. Are they dating? Just friends? You decide!

Legit they all. Appreciate each other very much. You mess with one of them you mess with all of them.

Survivor/Amensiac/Medium are all besties who are basically the bystanders in the Town’s BS. Medium is kinda obligated to stay with the town, but would genuinely consider leaving.

Plaguebearer adopts the Jester. Plaguebearer also gets possessed by Pestilence when everyone gets infected. I like to think Pestilence hops out every now and again, and Jester doesn’t know how to react.

The Spy, Tracker and Trapper are all related to each other. They are rarely seen apart and probably all work together on Town Surveillance. Spy and Tracker mainly, Trapper is just making sure the right people are protected.

I’m a firm believer of “The Consigliere and Investigator used to be friends but then mafia and now they are. Conflicted!”

Speaking of “Conflicted!” the Sheriff and Investigator have a similar issue, but that’s not the mafia’s fault, that’s the “they are both stubborn little shits and refuse to let the other investigate how they want” ‘s fault.

The Consort constantly teases the Vigilante. The Vigilante does not know what to do with this information.

Skarso is too iconic. I feel like they would probably kill each other, but because the community wants them to kiss I’m just like “gdi”. Would anything of substance come from them? I personally don’t think so but at this point they’re so iconic I have to respect it.

hi!!! i love your writing, it’s so beyond beautiful! i just had kind of a weird question - so in Lost and Found sebastian keeps saying he can live without the reader and he wouldn’t be lost without her and whatnot but that he WANTS to be with her - what if the reader was like “well i’m lost without you which means i’ll always love you more than you love me - and i want more than that.” bc i’m kind of the same way, i like the all-consuming type of love (i don’t think it’s a bad thing i’m just intense when it comes to romantic love but i feel bad when others don’t feel the same about me - like they can have a future without me but want one whereas i’m like no i NEED you) so what do you think sebastian would say/feel if the reader wouldn’t want to get back together because she feels like they would be on an uneven playing field because he’s making it clear he doesn’t NEED her but she feels like she needs him and wants to be with someone who feels the same way about her - and that’s not sebastian :((( sorry if this is weird or unhinged i just wanted to know your thoughts!!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH !! This is such a compelling question, I had to sit on it for a bit to sift through my thoughts. This got long so I’m sticking it under the cut to preserve the timeline.

The sucker in me wants to believe in that kind of scenario, Sebastian would accept the reader’s rejection (much to his internal dismay) and give her the space they both need immediately after. But at the same time, after everything they’ve been through, it seems counterintuitive to seriously end things.

I find it important to remember Sebastian’s history no matter what I write about; he lost his parents, killed his uncle, and effectively drove Anne away because he took things too far. He had to come back from that over the course of two years (in the timeline for Lost and Found, at least) and in that time he’s come to accept that life goes on. The world won’t stop spinning just because he’s grieving or upset, and it’s because of that he knows he doesn’t “need the reader to live”

That being said, his life post fifth-year has always included her, so he’ll do his best to show her exactly how much she means to him despite the break-up. Her absence is palpable. If it’s a question of whether or not he’ll ‘fight’ for her, he’ll absolutely do it. He would do his best to explain his mentality and way of thinking so that she knew what he’d said when he came back to her never had to do with him loving her less than she loved him. It was him acknowledging what while he could live without yet another person he loved, he didn’t want to.

I have to believe no matter what the outcome of their romantic relationship would be, Sebastian wouldn’t want to cut the reader out of his life permanently, because they mean too much to him for something like that.

TLDR; I think Sebastian might initially accept the reader not wanting to get back together at first, purely because he knows he said fucked up things before walking out and he knows he can’t take those words back. But in the long run, I think Sebastian would pour his heart out to her to try to convince her that even though she thinks he loves her less than she loves him, that isn’t the case in the slightest.

She’s been the one constant in his life since everything went to shit, and without her, he feels lost. Even though biologically he can exist without her beside him, it fucking hurts and it isn’t easy, nor is it something he actually wants to do. So I think he would fight for her at the end of the day. The romance fiend in me believes he wouldn’t accept the break up for long, and maybe with enough effort and pleading, Sebastian could win the reader back. If she still didn’t want to be together after all was said and done, he would begrudgingly accept her word and take time to work his way back into a friendship stance with her. Some kind of relationship with her would be better than nothing in his eyes.

I probably rambled a shit ton here but I never gave the MC rejecting his pleas to get back together much thought. It’s painful to consider actually making him end up alone in his last year of school, but I hope this maybe offered some insight ! If anyone else had any thoughts, feel free to add them :))

Salem Brooklyn Crow, one of the main protagonists for Welcome To Wolfshire is a very complex character built upon violence, hate and sorrow from past troubles and refusal to bring his problems into the light. He is the prime definition of a ‘pure young soul cradled by hate’, otherwise known as ‘the king of a glass castle of his own making’ …

Salem doesn’t focus on himself. He worries about others over himself but to extreme degrees where his body pays the price whether it be wounded in fights, to taking the fall by authorities to exhaustion. He’s selfless but at a price of his own health

Salem’s nature at first glances is intimidating and distant— he doesn’t get close with people off the bat nor does he indeed on being seen as ‘friendly’ at first glances. He’s extremely rough around the edges, both physically and mentally, and is often seen as a brute. That’s he’s known as and all he knows how to act with others. A typically loner who only keeps those he’s bonded with close as everything else goes to hell under his own making. One example, Reggie Belmont

Immediately in the chapter of Proposal, Salem’s relationship is introduced as a rivals with benefits deal that is the only time the two talk civilly without being at each others’ throats— high school friends who fell out of a friendship to become a complicated rivalry duo that uses sex as a coping mechanism to dodge their problems, not only as clique leaders but as young adults

Salem and Reggie and both consent to this relationship built upon violence and sex, they both can opt out of their rival with benefits relationship at any given moment (confirmed they do after Chapter One). Salem can leave if he likes but somehow he keeps returning to it as routine he can have control over— all of it started as some ego rising pseudo obsession-esque thing to a form of escapism the two fall into as a way to escape reality for a moment and talk like adults while trying to dodge their own problems

Salem buries his problems rather than deflecting them to others like Reggie but holds them down deep enough where they reaching the breaking point and he crumbles with it. Instead of dealing with them in a healthy way, he keeps dodging them or simply takes it out on himself like punching a tree till his knuckles turn bloody or driving out to the far side of the county and screaming until he can’t no more. He hides his emotions as the concept of him going for help is ‘pushing his problems onto others’ and lets them be buried under the rug. He’s too stubborn for his own good to go for help— he could go to his parents but choosing not to ‘burden them further more than he already has’ (reference to his curse) — Salem practically grew up too quickly by his own means and is refusing to listen to his inner child

Salem has been hurt so many times where he doesn’t know what ‘love’ is — all he knows is violence and mutual beneficial over genuine romantic love

If his inner child would see him now, he would stand in fear. Not because of Salem’s curse by of what happened to him after all these years. Where the loving child vanished and the bitter young adult came out as a front to shield himself from the harsh realities of the world and the hands that hurt— biting at the hand that reaches out from the darkness to save him. He’s not scary… just angry

Moving on lols, the way I read Balancing Act this morning! I wanted to scream, and I'm in no way a morning person but that one woke me up! Gojo being so self assured, I love that for him. The way you wrote the whole crew working for Gojo and Getou! Nanami saying that Getou is just like Gojo but would give himself 6 months instead KILLED ME!!!! Also just Nanami, and his whole work is shit rang through my head when you said he left then came back 😭 Just the way you wrote them all is soo good, the interaction between Gojo and Mc oooomph absolute genius! im so happy you've read balancing act because for me, it's such a fun project and a way for me to not so subtly vent out any pent up feelings i had towards my experience in working in banking in nyc BAHAHAHA. i think workplace dynamics are so fun to write as well & i really wanted to incorporate just how blurry boundaries are within the field but also how close knit they truly are because most of the time, you see your coworkers more than your family and your significant other and it's hard not to become friends or something more (it's either that, or u all hate each other's guts LOL). geto and gojo would not be besties if they weren't both absolute menaces, i stand by that. utahime + gojo are lowkey MY dramione HAHA, and so i always like to write them in some type of relationship, whether that be platonic or romantic. they def squabble like siblings in this fic + it's going to be so much fun writing them in a diff light than i normally do (what's up for debate is whether or not i hint towards nanami x utahime :O) nanami found out that working in academia is JUST AS TOXIC as industry, so he's back bc, hey, at least he gets paid hella money, but we'll explore more nanami lore in balancing act once i decide on his exact role in the fic muahahaha.

i couldn’t really explain to you why that is because im not too sure about it myself tbh, i guess maybe it’s just a dynamic that doesn’t appeal to me or that has never been depicted in a way that i like. one gripe i do kinda have with how i’ve seen it being portrayed in shows is that the trope is called friends-with-benefits, but way too often the friends part is completely missing: it’s either more like two-characters-who-can-barely-stand-each-other-with-benefits or friends-who-are-already-clearly-in-love-with-each-other-with-benefits. i mean don’t get me wrong both of these are perfectly fine!!!! i probably just have way too specific expectations for this trope, and since it’s not one of my favorite to begin with, if it’s not done exactly right i can’t really enjoy it. or maybe i simply have boring tastes ;;;;;;;;;

but all that being said, would i completely DEVOUR a friends-with-benefits to lovers jimmysea series? Y’ALL CAN BET YOUR SWEET BIPPY I WOULD. do i also think they would fucking NAIL those roles and leave me for dead on the side of the road with their performance? DAMN RIGHT I DO

i often say that maybe they don’t have the kind of chemistry where you can see the sparks fly from across the room, but when it comes to any kind of emotion they absolutely thrive, so i think they would be incredible at portraying all those different ever changing feelings that are common for the trope: the initial fun of fooling around with your best friend and laughing together about it afterwards, the sudden confusion when you find yourself drawn to a deeper kind of intimacy, the slow realization of feeling something more, the fear of ruining the friendship, the hurt that comes whether you step away or not, the pining for a romantic relationship that you think you can have, the unjustified jealousy when you see your friend flirting with someone else, the anger towards yourself for feeling like that, the misunderstanding building from all that, the pure unadulterated love and joy at knowing your feelings are returned and finally being together………

Allie — Romance, friendship and sex and three entirely different things to Allie and, while they may overlap at times, can frequently be completely independent of each other. In her mind, a romantic relationship may frequently be enhanced by friendship, but isn't a blanket necessity (and friendship prior to romance is definitely not needed). Similarly, a friendship with Allie may involve some things that are traditionally associated more with a romantic relationship, but to Allie is just an extension of her affection for you. While she can see how in some situations, sex can be an act of romanticism, in general she sees sex as an act that is neutral and disconnected from friendship or romance. Like holding hands, for example — it could be you’re holding hands purely for a practical sense, it could be a display of affection, or it could be to pin someone’s hands to the bed while you go down on them — for Allie, it's the same with sex; the act itself is neutral but the intent behind it could make it romantic or an act of affection. So Allie differentiates between fucking (no feelings involved, purely to scratch an itch) and sex (where there is feelings of some sort, and the act is a demonstration of those feelings).

Bea — Whilst friendship and romance are very different things to her, Bea's not going to be likely to fall for someone (and certainly wouldn’t express any feelings or do anything physical with anyone) unless she genuinely really trusts them with herself. So, if it’s not an established friendship first, there certainly does need to be an extended period of trust building and getting to know each other before anything romantic is happening (even if the other person has made it clear that this is the end goal).

Bridget — Bridget doesn’t feel a necessity for a romantic relationship to begin with a friendship (though she is certainly not against that, and absolutely does expect a friendship to form within a romantic relationship), however she does view sex as an inherently romantic thing (at least for her, she can see how it isn’t for others).

Patsy — At the best of times Patsy has a hard time opening up and being vulnerable, in any sense, with others. In almost all situations, she would rather not focus on her feelings, regardless of whether they're positive or not. She's had a lot of loss in her life and is incredibly scared of facing more in future and will often convince herself that she would rather not form connections in her life, as that would prevent the potential for further loss. As a result, she is rarely (if ever) going to be actively seeking a romantic relationship and is likely to only be in one if she finds that she has inadvertently developed feelings for someone. The fact that she so rarely examines her own feelings, however, means that her being aware that she has developed an attraction to someone is pretty low and so in most cases, she is only going to end up in a relationship with them if they are the ones to notice and do something about it.

Trixie — It often feels to Trixie like she is asking too much to be wooed in (the early stages of) a relationship. She does view romance and friendship as differing things, but at the same time does believe that it's important for a friendship to develop in a relationship (if there wasn't already one there). She would not be against entering into a romantic relationship with a friend, but wouldn't want that to mean that there was any less of the excitement and romancing, purely because they already both know and are comfortable with each other.
