The first episode of the Bogus Skill Fruitmaster anime was quite enjoyable, highly recommend.

At first glance, this story might seem like an isekai, but it’s not. In this world, when people reach a certain age, they begin their ‘second life’ by eating a 'skill’ fruit, which grants them a special ability. However, it’s a gamble—they have no idea whether their skill will be useful or not, and there are no second chances. Once they eat the fruit, they’re stuck with whatever they get. Trying to eat a second skill fruit? Instant death—apparently, it’s highly poisonous.

I didn’t enjoy watching this. The sheer lack of intelligence from every character was frustrating. First, the main character, Light, is poorly developed. In fact, none of the characters are well-written, and the story itself is just as poorly executed.

For example, an adventurer bumps into Light, gets upset, and immediately pulls out a sword inside the Adventurer’s Guild, right in front of everyone. How stupid do you have to be to do that? And that’s not the only time characters act without any awareness of their surroundings.

Lena publicly denies knowing Light in front of everyone at the Adventurer’s Guild. Yet in the very next scene, she shows up at the restaurant where he’s eating, wearing a hood to keep a low profile and shushing her friend to avoid saying her name out loud. Then, despite all that effort, she casually removes her cloak in full view of the other customers, completely undermining her attempt at secrecy.

And don’t even get me started on Light and his friends loudly discussing his two ‘skills’ in public—something that shouldn’t be possible. Do they want to attract trouble? Sure, some people might dismiss them, but what about the ones who don’t? That’s a fast track to getting kidnapped, experimented on, or worse.

Stupid stuff like this keeps happening, making it harder for me to ignore. Another example: when Light challenges Grouse to a duel in front of everyone, you’d think it would be a huge deal—a famous leader of the Sacred party getting humiliated by a newbie adventurer wielding a damn broom after his sword breaks. How embarrassing. That kind of information should’ve spread everywhere.

Of course, it’s complete nonsense that Grouse would have the nerve to file a complaint about Light after that. He agreed to the duel and lost in a humiliating fashion, which is why I don’t buy it. It’s just a lie from the Saint to squash Light's party. If it were legitimate, a fair guild organization wouldn’t immediately side with the complainer—it would conduct a proper investigation. If the Saint had done that, she would have known the truth, as there were witnesses. They’re really making it clear that she’s shady as hell.

And why did Light even have to be the one to fight Grouse in the first place? Just because he got the Sword God skill doesn’t mean he’s instantly good at fighting. He hasn’t been using it nearly as long as Lena has with her skill. I was disappointed that she didn’t even stand up for herself and say, No, I’ll fight him myself.

That would have been so much more satisfying than what we actually got. The guy threatened her and then slapped her—you’d think she’d get even by kicking his ass. Especially since, later on, her fight at Count Montes' Castle—particularly with the dragon—proves she’s more than capable. So why couldn’t she fight him herself? Instead, she had to be ‘saved’ by her childhood friend.

And honestly, this whole situation could have been avoided. Why did she even bother telling Grouse privately when she knew what kind of person he was? She could have just announced in public that she was leaving the party, asked the Adventurer’s Guild receptionist to remove her, and walked away. Simple.

Ugh. Then I remember—she does something just as stupid: trying a slash attack on a slash-immune dragon. And, of course, she breaks her sword. YOU KNOW IT WON’T WORK, SO WHY DID YOU DO IT?? Now she’s completely weaponless. And I’m thinking, Really? You were right there—did you not just watch Light break his sword doing a slash attack like an idiot because he thought his Sword God skill would be enough?

Speaking of which, I hate his stupid triangle sword. I was thrilled when it first broke, thinking he’d finally replace it with something better. But no—he just gets another one. No wonder it’s garbage; it’s apparently a loaner from the Adventurer’s Guild. Of course, they’re not handing out high-quality weapons.

For someone who dreams of becoming a legendary adventurer, you’d think he’d do his homework. The first thing he should have done was get a proper sword—or at least complete enough missions to buy one that won’t break.

I’ve had enough—this show is pushing too many buttons for me to enjoy. There are far better shows out there, and this definitely isn’t one of them. At least I can say I gave it a fair shot after watching five episodes.

The day has finally come! Light, accompanied by his friend (and love interest?), Lena, will find out today if he’ll be able to live out his dream of being an adventurer! To do that, he’ll need to earn a battle skill, which is given when he eats a special “fruit.” Lena goes first, however, and discovers that she’s now a “Sword Saint,” earning a once-in-a-decade skill! Excited, Light bites into a fruit and learns that he…will become a fruit farmer. You see, his skill is “Fruitmaster,” which allows him to grow fruits swiftly and abundantly. As the Holy Sister tells him, this is the skill least suited to adventuring. Oh well. End of story, right? (Especially since eating a second fruit will poison you.) Not so fast—due to an innocent mistake made by Ayla, a young girl under Light’s care, he’s about to discover that “Fruitmaster” may be more suited to combat than anyone could imagine.

Omg I know solo leveling is so fucking good!!! The animation is awesome. It looks like they are toning down some of the more really brutal aspects of his character. But I understand that with how audiences can be for tv. Also I love that we are getting more bits of the other character. That was something they said they were gonna add which makes me glad to see!

Headhunted to another world is so cute! I wasn't expecting so much of a romance element to it. But I am very here for it!

The noble on the brink of ruin one got so so much more interesting on the third episode. I hope they get the heir thing handled quickly in it. Since his brother is kind of stupid or maybe have his brother just learn to be a better person that would be cool too haha. But I ain't holdin out hope.

I left my a ranked party instantly got me when they mentioned the live streaming aspect of dungeon crawling. Also like just straight up fuck his first party. Like what ?!?!?! Oh hey let's not give money to our main support and buffer. Oh let's let him quit too, surely we won't become a laughing stock and fail 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. I can't wait to see their faces in episode 2 when we get the reactions to his solo boss clear. 😤

All I got to say about bogus skill is it's super good. I wanna see his next skill. AND WHAT IS THAT NUN PLANNING why does she give off movie gangster vibes 😭. She's like definitely evil or super worried about some prophecy.

I haven't watched zenshu i did check it out it's interesting 🤔.

You should check out the first episode for the red power ranger isakai. It. Is. Going. To. Be. Fuckin. Ridiculous. And I swear if they pull some rug slip super sad episode 8 on me like with Dan Da Dan I am gonna lose it 😂.

Today’s Manga Is: Bogus Skill <<Fruitmaster>> ~About that time I became able to eat unlimited numbers of Skill Fruits (that kill you)~

Like One Piece, Fruitmaster features magic superpower-granting fruits -- and spends as much time on fruit as One Piece did (i.e. very little). Neither fruits nor the "fruitmaster" skill are actually important to Fruitmaster. They're macguffins that explain why the main character is capable of doing stuff none of the other characters believe is even possible, and could be replaced by a number of other equally superficial contrivances without really changing anything about Fruitmaster except the amount of time the reader has to waste hearing. This makes Fruitmaster essentially the same kind of bait-and-switch manga as Even Given The Worthless Appraiser Class, I'm The Strongest; which are ostensibly about finding (and maximizing) the value in a seemingly-useless, niche, or underestimated role, but are really just looking for an excuse to throw the hero a tedious, overly-long pity party before carrying on with the usual Chosen One fantasy plotline.

The female characters in this one are, like the female characters in I Left My A-Rank Party, extremely Stepford Wife-ish. They don't have any interests, hobbies or desires other than sticking to the main character like a barnacle and doing whatever makes his life happy and convenient. This isn't even milked for comedy: it's played entirely straight. There is a brief interlude where the protagonist's childhood friend is separated from him against her will, due to their fruit-assigned careers; that promises to provide some interesting angst or conflict between two characters who previously seemed 100% in sync -- but a casual skim through later chapters proves this state of affairs doesn't last very long.

The other main female character is an orphaned kid the protagonist agreed to take in while he was trying to acclimate to his new role as a farmer, and it's not clear that this character needed to exist, or why she couldn't be the main character's little sister. (Which leaves me suspecting that this character exists solely to attract fans of harems and fans of loli characters, and therefore gives me the ick.)

The main character himself is just meh. The most interesting thing about him is that he shares a name with Death Note's Light Yagami. Otherwise this is basically the same guy as the protagonist of I Left My A-Rank Party. I did not like that this protagonist's second skill turned out to be named Sword God, because it's a)way too similar to the skill his childhood friend got (Sword Saint), and b)FFS we couldn't even let the childhood friend girl character be the best at the one skill she has? We had to let the name of the protagonist's sword skill outrank hers?

Did I Read More: Only to confirm that I was right to assume it wouldn't get better... but I should have trusted myself.
