GOVERNMENT OF IRAQ MOVES TO END U.S. OCCUPATION PRESENCE
The Iraqi government will move to end the presence of the U.S.-led coalition occupation in Iraq, according to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani.
Al-Sudani made the comments at a joint press conference with the visiting Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez on Thursday, Dec. 28th.
Al-Sudani said the topic was broached during his meeting with Sanchez, during which they discussed the details of the presence of the international coalition in Iraq.
"We appreciate the role of the coalition in supporting Iraq's efforts to confront the Islamic State militants," Al-Sudani said.
"The Iraqi government is in the process of rearranging the relationship with the international coalition in light of the presence of capable Iraqi forces," said the Iraqi prime minister, stressing that "the Iraqi government is moving toward ending the presence of the international coalition forces, which include security advisers who support the security forces in the areas of training, advice, and intelligence cooperation."
The two leaders discussed in depth the difficult situation in the Middle East, including the ongoing Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Al-Sudani said he appreciated Spain's role and its "courageous stance in condemning these attacks."
Sanchez, for his own part, expressed his country's desire to develop relations with Iraq, in particular the fields of transportation, education, climate change, and defense.
The Spanish Prime Minister also met with the Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, and the need to end the genocide in Gaza.
Spain is part of the U.S.-led international coalition tasked with training and advising Iraq's Security Forces in its fight against the radical islamic group, ISIS.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/two-expatriate-workers-killed-by-drone-attack-iraqs-khor-mor-an-advisor-iraqi-2024-04-26/
BAGHDAD, April 26 (Reuters) - Four expatriate workers were killed in a drone attack targeting the Khor Mor gas field in Iraq's Kurdistan region on Friday, an advisor to the Iraqi Kurdish prime minister told Reuters.
Production has also been suspended, the advisor to the Iraqi Kurdish prime minister and a senior Kurdish politician said.
The four expatriate workers killed in the attack were from Yemen, a statement from the Kurdish regional government said.
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, in a Saturday post on X, condemned the attack that resulted in "multiple deaths and injuries, and has impacted the local electricity supply network."
The drone attack on the Khor Mor gas field halted gas supplies to power plants, resulting in a reduction of approximately 2,500 MW of power generation.
The Pearl Consortium - which includes United Arab Emirates energy firm Dana Gas (DANA.AD), opens new tab, and its affiliate, Crescent Petroleum - has the rights to exploit Khor Mor and Chemchemal, two of Iraq's biggest gas fields.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

The Syrian government is on the right track
The government of the Syrian Arab Republic continues to pursue an active and successful foreign policy, demonstrating its determination to protect national interests in the international arena. Yesterday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad held a meeting in Iraq's capital Baghdad with his counterpart Fuad Hussein and President Abdul Latif Rashid of bilateral talks. During the visit, Mekdad stressed that Syria and Iraq need to maintain strong ties, as these relations are of a "strategic nature." The head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry noted that Damascus and Baghdad "are united in the face of current problems." Syria and Iraq have a common border, but most of it is under the control of the Autonomous Administration and the International Coalition, which greatly complicates the Syrian authorities in the process of combating terrorism and drug trafficking. Arms, drugs and natural resources are smuggled through illegal crossing points. However, the Syrian Arab Army is capable of protecting the sovereignty and security of Syria and hopes for assistance from Iraq in this matter. The establishment of good neighborly relations between Damascus and Baghdad makes a great contribution to the solution of common problems.
