Rewriting old fics are scary!

I finally got the ball rolling on rewriting my first fic. After much theory crafting, development plotting, planning, character building, and just overall story rework from the original... I did it! :D It only took me... 2...3? years -psychotic laughing intensifies- Ahem. Anyways the fic is pretty chaotic. It follows overcoming trauma from the oc in this new world. I figured there was also a lot of missing potential between the og ff7 game and remake, so why not do a little world building that differentiates this place from being a game? And considering I love angst and to make my characters suffer? I had to spice it up with drama and humor sprinkled in (though there will be more in later chapters since current ones are setting the stage). Long fic do be long.

Hi! Good day to you sir! I would like a little human with a side of "how do I transform into my magical girl self and use magic in the physical" and a bo' of wa'er mate!

You wait in the shop for a few moments before a little human with a very large witch hat covered in seaweed stumbles out of the backdoor clearly made for larger beings.

“Sorry about that!” They cringe apologetically at you. “I accidentally summoned a whole school of fish in the back and one,” they held up a finger, “had to cast a spell for the entire school to be able to survive in the air, and two,” they held up a second finger, “had to cast another spell to get rid of the first when they all started flying around back there once I figured out how to send them back to the ocean.”

They pause, catching their breath before noting the seaweed that hung off their hat and sheepishly grabbed at it, tossing it hard and fast behind the shop’s counter. “Heh. Whoops…”

The witch glances back and smiles hesitantly at you, “Anywaaayyysss you’re here for a reading right? I’m Marie. I work here- obviously…since I was in the back and um…am taking care of the shop tonight. How can I help you?”

They listen intently, nodding and walking backward while giving you two thumbs up. “Yeah! Totally! A bo’le o’ wa’er fo’ you!” Marie winks and pulls a bottle of water out of thin air, tossing it to you before motioning to follow.

You walk through the backdoor into an open hallway, passing a room covered in ocean debris and two crabs fighting it out before Marie leads you to a cozy, dry room with a table and two chairs.

“Sit sit.” Marie motions, a tarot deck appearing in her hands and she begins to shuffle.

“Now let’s see, how do you transform into your magical girl self and use magic in the physical…”

They set down the second card. “Where the Nine of Coins shows you where you want to be, the Page of Coins shows us the start. It represents new beginnings and a bright future. Even if you paused in your pursuits of magic before, every day is a fresh start. Set those goals for yourself! Take the time to lay out what YOU want and manifest it for yourself.” They point to the second card, then the first. “If you lay a strong foundation for yourself, you will be the magical girl that you want to see in the mirror.”

“Finally, the Queen of Wands. It represents a fiery force, a drive to pursue what you want. Take your own power! Be confident and passionate in the goals you’ve set! You’ve chosen a beautiful path for yourself, take pride in that and use your excitement and love for the craft to fuel you to your success.”

Marie leans back and smiles, “Set goals, harness your passion towards those goals…and you’ll be able to harvest the fruits of your labor. Magic is all about the heart after all. So if you use the strength in your heart to guide and fuel you…you’ll find yourself exactly where you want to be.”
