no one asked but, here’re my thoughts on first listen of ‘Red Guitar’.

(i was on Spotify — free, cuz i’m cheap af)

what the fuck is this? but, like, in a bad way. like, in a we-why-no kinda way. the solo was nice, though. i didn’t pay much attention to lyrics, there was too much going on musically.

(btw: Awsten’s right about Spotify fucking up sounds idk what the fuck it does but it sounds over saturated and shitty and i hate it and i don’t remember how to fix it or even if i can on a free account. so i went for a second listen on YouTube… whole different experience.)

duuude! so good. the second listen changed my mind. i hate and love when that happens. but yeah, i pretty much went from gagging to this-is-fucking-awesome. so if you hate it now, give it a moment to breathe then try again.

anyway i like the lyrics enough, especially his conversation with his younger self. i like the stripped mini-intro a lot, it adds a little something extra. and again… the solo. finally boi. overall i think what attracks me the most about it (and weirdly enough is what made me hate it at first) is that it’s not the typical summer, bubblegum, catchy tune that we’re used to for a Waterparks single. can’t wait to find out all the hidden layers.

and i don’t know about you but, fucking hell, Awsten always keeps me on the edge of my seat and that’s what makes Waterparks so exciting to me.

(side note: props to Spotify for playing ‘Magnetic’ right after, that was on fucking point. such a good song. same vibes, by the way.)

i’m loving it, honestly. and i mean, i was expecting to love it. if As It Is are good are anything that’s reinventing themselves: the reimagined versions of The Great Depression are fucking gold, of course new versions of NHEA would be amazing!

tell me, is your favorite still your favorite or do you have a new one?

my favorite from the originals is ‘Turn Back To Me’, but ‘You, The Room, And The Devil On Your Shoulder X’ has my entire heart right now.

that one and ‘Cheap Shots… X’. it keeps bringing tears to my eyes because you can hear how much they’ve grown as musicians and i love, love, love it! i’m so fucking glad they’re back.
