Quick thoughts on Thunderbolts*

I wasn't waiting for much after the last MCU movies, yet, I left the theater with so many emotions boiling inside me.

First : SPOILER FOR THE THUNDERBOLTS* MOVIE

Ok, ok, ok. If you're still here, you have seen the movie or you don't really care about being spoiled (you should go see it anyways :)

I love myself a sweet found family, and this movie gave me everything I wanted. Starting with Yelena telling us her state of emotional numbness gave out the theme and tone of the movie. AND THE STUN GOD, genuinely impressive as hell. But immediately, she gives out her sarcastic remarks. The way she copes seems natural to her personality, and gives her relatability.

I think in general, show don't tell is really well used here. I understood so much through the visuals and the characters. Because, yes, the acting is so good ! Every actor brought life into their character, bringing them nuances and grounding them into reality.

Bob is an unexpected character, but he brought so much to the storyline and the cast. The way they depicted traumas, addictions and mental illnesses was incredible. It's handled with much care, so much that I'm kinda worried for the person who wrote the script. They know too much to not have lived through such events themselves. I'm personally stirred by this depiction. How being mentally ill is like having two voices inside of you, one of them whispering at you that you're alone and not worthy. But this whisper grows to shouts, and you cannot resist anymore. So you break. You want to prove to everyone you're worth something, but at the first slight failure, you lose any remaining hope. And when you lose hope, that's when hell break loose.

This team is just a bunch of broken beings, trying to somehow find their place in this world. Ultimately, they still don't belong in society, but they found balance between each other. Seeing Bucky be the father figure made my heart quiver. Argh, he's so cute.

I only have a few pet peeves, one being the second part being a bit rushed compared to the first. I feel that New York disappearing in the void and reappearing like nothing happens really quickly. We didn't see time pass, so it was as if only a few minutes passed through, maybe hours. Personally, I feel it's a bit ridiculous to have every single living being fading in thin air and coming back like nothing happened just after.

AND THE POST CREDITS SCENES ARGHHHH :3 So much teasing and what do you mean Bucky and Sam divorced ????!!!

Problematic found family

YES the Thunderbolts have a fantastic team as family dynamic, yes they are living in Avengers tower, yes history is repeating itself and 2012 tower fics are so back. BUT!

instead of "Alexei eating poptarts" or "Yelena in the vents", we must come up with new headcanons and make history

Bob always does normal domestic chores, often getting in the way of important missions and spy business. "All I'm saying is Bucky is our best sniper" "It would be a much quieter assassination if I just slipped into the condo and cut his—" "Hey sorry guys, anyone have laundry? I'm doing a load"

Yelena and her guinea pig always eat meals together at the dining table. Everyone has their Chinese food or barbeque, meanwhile the rodent is loudly munching on a salad right beside them

Bucky is the mom and always keeps them on track. "Ava you have a dentist appointment in the morning, and bring Bob so they can add him to the insurance. Lena how was therapy? Alexei, I said no vodka until dinner"

Alexei is always coming up with new promotional ideas for the team. Cartoon tv show, cereal, toothpaste flavour...every day he thinks he's come up with the next big thing. Whenever they actually get put into production (Wheaties) he collects and saves it, and won't let anyone use a different product. (He threw out Yelena's frosted flakes and it took both Bucky and John to get her to stop attacking him)

Ava likes to phase and sneak attack her teammates at random. She claims it's for training but really she just thinks it's funny hearing them scream

John gets blamed for everything, even if it isn't his fault. Especially if it isn't his fault: "who ate the last bagel?" "John." "Where's my hair straightener?" "John had it." "Whose turn is it to unload the dishwasher?" "Johnnnn"
