Day 2: Timeloop / Xiao Qi and Jiu Ge

Feel free to reuse this idea but 24 hours are not enough for me to finish an entire comic. I could have taken the simpler prompt but nOOOOOO timeloop is too tempting. Past me why are we like this
#svsss#shen jiu#yue qingyuan#qijiu#qijiuweek2024#the basic idea for this was that both yqy and sj remember each loop#the loop started after their individual deaths in PIDW and resets them to close to disciple era#aka the time Yue Qi was in the caves and SJ presumably got away from the Qiu household or was already with Wu Yanzi#I imagine the first few loops they qi deviated so hard from the shock that they didnt even make it like 1 hour in the loop before beingrese#and then had a few loops just fucking around and finding out#eventually they realise that the other has the memories of all loops and so begins the talks and figuring how tf they can get out of this#maybe they resolve their issues with the promise or not your choice tbh#they try different plans and methods#but they keep dying (read: SJ keeps dying first and YQY either dies or sewerslides not soon after) and getting reset with no end in sight#until the last pages where the svsss timeline begins#SJ got replaced with SY and the system isn't letting YQY join him in death or smth nor letting him do anything about SY being there instead#And due to their closeness from being immensily tired from all the loops#YQY notices it immediately but can't do anything about it#the bonus for SY is that this timeline was very kind to LBH & co - 79 figured by now that keeping him in the sect and happy was their best#bet at staying alive - or well at least for longer#I'll continue this storyline in one of the future prompts of this qijiu week#btw the one with the cliff is just the whoopsie daisy timeline where SJ accidentally falls into the Abyss trying to keep LBH from falling i#79 had a bit of a good laugh about that one#cw death#cw violence#cw blood#cw angst

I woke up to this news and many of my friends pinging me (thank you friends I love you all)
let's get the elephant out of the room: WHY IS HE WHIIIIITE WHY I HATE IT
I mean I get why he's white- it's part of the pitch that this alien is the ultimate outsider possessing the ultimate insider, so it looks like they're leaning towards a buddy cop scenario instead of J'onn shapeshifting into and impersonating a dead human but. Isn't that just Halo. An Alien possessing a human? I get that there's some crossover with impersonating the dead here but this isn't technically a new concept.
I thought the appeal of the Absolute and Ultimate lines was rearranging the chess pieces of a Superhero's story and showing how even when you make drastic changes, they can still feel quintessentially Batman, Spiderman, Superman, etc. Bruce can be working class but still Batman. But right now this pitch feels like disregarding Martian Manhunter lore entirely except for the most superficial parts kept intact. Also DC seems so allergic to racebending for their Absolute line compared to Marvel. We get Polynesian Hulk and Native Two Spirit Hawkeye (from Deniz Camp also!!), but this line can't even give us Black Martian Manhunter? Part of why Black!J'onn resonates with so many people is because it grounded his character by making his marginalization as an othering alien (especially compared to Superman) relatable to humans (the whole point of stories). Trading that humanizing element of J'onn for more sci fi wackiness is only going to make J'onn struggle in the long run. It's such a bummer.
I've had a suspicion that instead of DC taking Martian lore and rearranging it into something new that could revitalize J'onn, that they just don't have the creativity to see any potential in the mess they made of him, so they'd just toss it all out. And that's disappointing. If you told me this was a Tom King pitch, I'd believe you. Because what is this.

i think a lot of the soulless clover revival fics that make them start to kill in the very first reset does not give clover (or flowey) nearly enough credit
#there's one fic I read that had a good justification for it but the rest..... hm#clover is not going to start killing people just because they can't feel emotions as strongly as they used to now#especially if this is post true pacifist clover we are talking about#it took flowey exhausting literally every other option just for him to even start to consider the thought of killing#and even then he didn't like the idea of it. the entire buildup to it he was saying I don't like this and trying to justify it to himself#for someone like clover who so strongly believes in the good of monsterkind I think it would take them at least as long as flowey to break#if not longer#and who's to say that they would even start killing in the first place#flowey started killing because everyone around him was predictable and did the exact same things every time to the point of boredom#but clover has flowey. friendly or not friendly flowey still remembers resets and wouldn't do the exact same thing every reset#flowey's very existence would prevent clover from reaching the same level of boredom that flowey did because there's always something new#at the end of the day clover and flowey are different people that will react to the same situation differently#to make it work you can't just retread flowey's experience. you have to consider how clover would react and change the situation accordingl#that's what I think anyways. cool concept but execution falls short more often than not imo.#my ramblings

I certainly have my own concerns about the treatment of moo deng but um. well i think some of you may just be racist
#this ^ isn't directed at any post in particular but instead a lot of comments ive seen. but now im gonna talk about other posts down here#and prefacing anything i put in the tags here with DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH#but the biggest post ive seen going around rn about moo deng being mistreated and the general quality of khao kheow zoo is questionable#claims that the enclosure is mostly concrete seem to be false from all the sources i can find#the concrete section looks like its specifically around the feeding area which fits zoo care guidelines which specify that the feeding area#be a surface that can be easily cleaned separate from the substrate and is a surface present in other zoos#the lack of deep water also seems to be purposeful? older videos of the same enclosure show deeper water areas#and looking back through the news every baby pygmy hippo announcement from every zoo i could find mentioned periods where the baby had to#learn to swim and was slowly introduced from shallow water to deeper water as time passed#this was also corroborated by fowlers zoo and wild animal medicine volume 8 which suggests keeping the mother dry and then slowly#introducing water as the baby grows as a potential best practice#damn im treating this like a paper now. anyway the negatives#there are absolutely things that strike me as bad eg. public access to the hippos and the way the keeper interacts with them#for the keeper stuff in particular i'd really like to see input from someone who has experience as a zookeeper with pygmy hippos#the public access is something that i def think the zoo could improve on and even older footage from years ago shows people sticking like#selfie sticks and shit off the side of the railings and right into the hippos faces#however again the zoo seems to be making efforts to curb visitor behavior which is tough when you go from having 800 visitors a day to#4000+ and you can't remodel the whole exhibit right then and there#all this to say! just do your own research and take somewhat inflammatory comments on the internet with a grain of salt#also just to make it clear im not making any sweeping statements on khao kheow or the treatment of moo deng im just summarizing what i foun#based on what's being said in the most popular post on the subject ive seen.#for the potential like three people who will read all this hi :) hope ur having a nice day
