SO, back in December of 2023 I think I was in a call with @monokumafightclub and @siromany browsing etsy for DR stuff and one of the things that came up was this cursed Komaeda painting. Now I am not calling it cursed JUST because it is cursed but also it was titled such. I was enamored by this painting. It reminded me of the Fluttershy painting that was gifted to me by a friend of mine which was found in an Amvets. The description of the piece said,

"Acrylic and oil-based painting. Nagito Komaeda from Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Proudly painted on a Sunday afternoon"

Simple yet intriguing. I knew I HAD to get this painting but I waited till after the holidays to buy it. A day after my birthday I purchased the painting by CursedCactiCreations and I waited. SO this is where things got kind of weird. So it was supposed to be shipped by March 20th and well it didn't go that way. Concerned I messaged the seller, three days passed and nothing. I emailed the seller, still nothing. I then got etsy to help me with this. I was starting to worry that something happened to the seller. We are still in a pandemic after all but also a part of me began to think the painting was maybe JUST MAYBE was actually cursed. Eventually the seller got back to me apologizing for the long delay but also that they painted the Komaeda piece four years ago back when they were high school. That they created the piece when their school shut down due to Covid. They put for sale and just went on with their life. Funnily, the piece was painted on a Sunday. Anyway it eventually got shipped out and I FINALLY got my hands on it. I wasn't upset by how long it took because I got something from all of this, the Komaeda experience. I went through the despair of waiting for the painting for a long while but then I achieved the hope of gaining said piece. I am glad I made this person happy I bought their art piece of a very cursed Komaeda.

Can you Thrift "Real" Lolita Items?

The simple answer is yes. I have heard many stories of coming across an Angelic Pretty or Baby the Stars Shine Bright item before. You're more likely to find something from Taobao as those prices are cheaper and harder to get a ping on with a Google search.

Today I just scored these:

Cotton Candy Feet batwing shoes. Paid $44 including tax. They were tagged $75 but since I'm an employee I got a discount.

I also helped the shoe pricer put a fair price on them because resellers are an issue and we thrift store employees are, quite frankly, getting tired of the same faces every day scouring for deals to resell online. We want everyone to have a shot at getting some good goods.

There is a matching purse and due to Rules™ I cannot buy until monday. I hope it's still there after the weekend. If not, no huge loss. I really don't NEED another bag but I needed lolita shoes.

They are a fraction too big but that's what shoe inserts are for.

HOW do you score lolithrift?

Well, it's luck mostly. A coworker happened to bring the bag and shoes over when they came in. I was privy to insider info BUT they were still available for the public for 48 hours. When I go back to look for the bag I'm also going to look for clothes and other accessories, because where there are shoes and bags there may be other coord items. Another tip is to just know where to go. Some chain stores get more oddball items than others, like my local Amvets tends to get more unusual items sent to them as collected by their warehouses and distributed for sale. Try and shop away from colleges, as well. Many lolitas are in their 20s and they are also the ones more likely to snap up cute things for Instagram likes even if they aren't into the fashion.

Is it matchy-matchy? No. I didn't realize the glitter pieces were Halloween limited edition. Unlike the shoes this has a little wear but it's fine. I'm still happy at $45 including tax. I didn't find anything else interesting except for a lavender cross enamel pin but I don't really do crosses so I left it.

What no one ever seems to mention is that this is a considerably higher survival rate than was the case in most occupied countries, and that this was accomplished with the help of thousands of non-Jews who took tremendous risks in order to protect their Jewish fellow citizens.)

From the biographical sketch in the finding aid to the Morris N. Kertzer Papers at the American Jewish Archives:

Rabbi Morris Kertzer was born on October 18, 1910 in Cochrane, Ontario. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and his master’s degree from the University of Illinois. He then studied under Mordecai Kaplan at the Jewish Theological Seminary where he earned a doctorate in Hebrew literature and he was ordained in 1934. Rabbi Kertzer would eventually separate from the Jewish Conservative movement to join the Reform rabbinate. Kertzer served congregations in Illinois, Alabama, and Iowa before joining the army to serve as a Jewish Chaplain in World War II. During World War II Rabbi Kertzer was the only Jewish Chaplain at the Anzio beachhead, earning a bronze star for his services there. He entered Rome shortly after the liberation and spoke at the liberation ceremonies. He also served in Africa as well as Southern and Central France before returning home in 1945. Rabbi Kertzer was active in Jewish-Christian relations, earning the International University of Rome’s Pro Deo Medal for promoting understanding between Catholics and Jews. He traveled internationally lecturing in Italy, Rumania, Japan, Turkey, India, Thailand and Israel. Rabbi Kertzer authored several books including With an “H” on my Dog Tag, his memoirs as military chaplain in World War II, What is a Jew?, (which went into more than 30 printings), Today’s American Jew, Tell me Rabbi, and The Art of Being a Jew. Memorial Day on May 29 conjures images of hamburgers, hot dogs, swimming pools, and summertime for  many Americans. But the last Monday in May serves, most importantly, as  a time to honor those who died while fighting in the U.S. Armed Forces.  It’s a holiday steeped in somber American history and tradition. The  day actually began as “Decoration Day,” following the Civil War, when  mourners placed flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers.  Yes, Memorial Day has also come to signify the “unofficial” start of  summer, but let’s remember the heroes who made it all possible.

When is Memorial Day 2023?

Men and women who’ve served and sacrificed their lives in the U.S. Armed Forces are honored on Memorial Day on May 29.

History of Memorial Day

The  Civil War ended in the spring of 1865 when Robert E. Lee surrendered  the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox  Court House on April 9. Over 620,000 soldiers died in the four-year  conflict. General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic (an  organization of Union veterans) would eventually select May 30, 1868, as  a day to pay tribute to the fallen:

“The 30th of May, 1868, is  designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise  decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country  during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every  city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land…”

Logan  apparently chose May 30 because flowers would be in bloom all over the  country. By the end of the 19th century, Memorial Day ceremonies were  being held on May 30 throughout the nation. States passed proclamations,  and the Army and Navy adopted rules for proper observance at their  facilities.

The crowd attending the first Memorial Day ceremony at  Arlington National Cemetery was approximately the same size as those  that attend today’s observance — about 5,000 people. Small American  flags were placed on each grave — a tradition still followed at many national cemeteries today. In recent years, the custom has grown in many  families to decorate the graves of all departed loved ones.

By  1890, each Northern state had made Decoration Day an official holiday.  But this was not the case in the South, where states continued to honor  their dead on separate days until after the First World War.

The May 30 date held for decades. But, in 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in order to create a three-day weekend for federal employees. The change took place in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day a  federal holiday.

Traditions of the Day

Many  Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials,  holding family gatherings, and participating in parades. It’s the  three-day weekend that kicks off the summer season and the time for  hanging out at the beach and lakes, and barbecuing with friends and  family. But Memorial Day is also the most solemn American holiday — a  day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending  their nation.

Towns and  cities across the country host grand Memorial Day parades every year,  often featuring senior veterans and military personnel. Some of the biggest parades take place in New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Cemeteries and memorials are also visited by Americans, with some  citizens wearing or holding red poppies to symbolize those who have  fallen in war. This tradition has been around since World War I. Weekend  trips and parties are also arranged to balance out the somberness of  the day and welcome the summer.

Lay  flowers on the grave of a family member or friend who died while  serving. If you don't personally know any fallen soldiers, visit a local  cemetery anyway. After all, they made the ultimate sacrifice for you.

By  doing so, you'll be joining millions of Americans in national unity to  honor Memorial Day for what it truly is — a day to remember those who  laid down their lives in service of their country and its citizens.

If  you have an American flag at home, be sure to fly it at half-mast until  noon, then raise it to full mast for the rest of the day. The practice  of lowering and then raising the flag has been observed for over 100  years to symbolize America's persistence in the face of loss.
