Xbox Series X - World Premiere - Trailer
Like and Subscribe Xbox head Phil Spencer said that Microsoft was prioritizing high frame rates and faster load times over higher resolutions; the Series X achieves this via the better-matched capabilities of the CPU and graphics processing unit. Compared to the Xbox One X, the CPU is about four times as powerful and the GPU twice as powerful. The Xbox Series X is powered by a custom 7 nm AMD Zen 2 CPU with eight cores running at a nominal 3.8 GHz or, when simultaneous multithreading (SMT) is used, at 3.6 GHz. One CPU core is dedicated to the underlying operating system. The integrated GPU is also a custom unit based on AMD's RDNA 2 graphics architecture. It has a total of 56 compute units (CUs) with 3,584 cores, with 52 CUs and 3,328 cores enabled, and will run at a fixed 1.825 GHz. This unit is capable of 12 teraflops of computational power. The unit ships with 16 GB of GDDR6 SDRAM(Graphics Double Data Rate 6 Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory ), with 10GB running at 560GB/s primarily to be used with the graphics system and the other 6 GB at 336 GB/s to be used for the other computing functions. After accounting for the system software, about 13.5 GB of memory will be available for games and other applications, with the system software only drawing from the slower pool. The Xbox Series X is intended to render games at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, and can support up to 120 frames per second and can render up to 8K resolution. The Xbox Series X's console form is designed to be unobtrusive and minimalistic. It has a 15.1 cm × 15.1 cm (5.9 in × 5.9 in) footprint, is 30.1 cm (11.9 in) high, and weighs 4.45 kg (9.8 lb). Designed to sit vertically, it can also be used on its side. Its front has the main power button and an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. The top of the unit is a single powerful fan. Spencer said that the console is as quiet as the Xbox One X. The Series X includes an HDMI 2.1 output, the storage expansion slot, three USB 3.2 ports, and an Ethernet port. The console does not include an infrared blaster or HDMI pass-through like the Xbox One line, supporting HDMI-CEC instead. An earlier leak had suggested a TOSLINK port for digital audio, but this was eliminated in the final design. The console has an IR receiver in its controller pairing button next to the front USB port.

This post makes me so mad because it's so utterly devoid of context, so I will attempt to provide some.
Intel 13th and 14th Gen (Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake-S) have been suffering from stability issues due to faulty microcode and VERY LIBERAL motherboard power defaults resulting in them requesting untenably high voltages, which has in many cases resulted in physical degradation of the CPUs resulting in instability.
If you're suffering from these issues, Intel has extended the warranties on all affected processors by two years. If you attempted to warranty a CPU for this reason in the past, and had your claim rejected, try again, as they'll be much more likely to accept it this time.
If you're considering building a new system, and for any of the many MANY reasons why someone might wanna avoid AMD (please AMD I'm on my knees begging you unfuck your USB implementations), Intel is going to be rolling out new microcode to all motherboard vendors in mid-August 2024. We should have BIOS updates to apply the fixes in late August to early September.
If you can't wait that long, 12th Gen Intel Core (Alder Lake) is unaffected by this issue, and Puget Systems specifically has avoided these failures entirely somehow (seeing 2% failure rates with Intel, as compared to 4% for AMD), and obviously AMD also exists and their CPUs no longer literally explode in the socket so they're probably a safe bet now.
I'm passionate about PC building. I'm also acutely aware of how hostile and confusing and unwelcoming it can feel at times. Posting a catchy headline that indicates The Bad is not helpful. Actually describing the content of official statements and telling people how to avoid or correct the issue is. I understand that we love dunking, and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY dunked on AMD when the whole exploding CPU fiasco went down, but I also helped people investigate the issue in the aftermath and avoid it themselves.
Also, before anyone accuses me of Intel fangirlism, I've run systems from Core 2, to Haswell, up through Skylake on the Intel side, and Bulldozer, Zen+, Zen 2, and Zen 3 on the AMD side. I've run the gamut from pinnacle engineering to literal e-waste, and I have little loyalty to either manufacturer. I'm just annoyed by people taking this as an opportunity to dunk and not bothering to actually help out folks who might be affected.
