I'm sorry, but I just have to point out that following the heart-breaking scene of Joyce comforting eleven in the sensory deprivation tank, I find it both extremely sad (because oh my god, im so sorry eleven. You're so traumatized) and just a little funny that everyone but Mike is comforting eleven. El is leaning on him as Lucas rubs her shoulder and acts extremely kind, patient, and caring (we love you, lucas. You deserve the world and I'm sorry you're so underrated). Dustin pats her knee as well, all while Mike sits between them, doing nothing but pondering on hearing his best friend Will telling them to hurry because he's dying and in danger. He doesn't have the patience or the time to worry about anyone but Will, unlike Dustin and Lucas, who are more than willing to comfort her.

Like, his hands stay in his lap so awkwardly the ENTIRE time as he just looks at the floor. The only thing he's thinking about is Will Byers suffering in the upside down, and the possible last word he'll ever hear him say being "hurry"

I genuinely believe that most of season 1 establishes how Mike prioritizes will. It doesn't look like it to most casual watchers because of his seemingly growing interest in eleven.

Its clear hes anxious here. He has to trust that Joyce and Hopper can save Will in a dire situation, but he's confident that eleven is the only one who can do that safely, and shes next to him instead of finding Will. You can see some of that residual annoyance in the following episode, but I haven't fully rewatched that yet.

+ I would also like to point out the junk yard scene when Eleven throws Lucas. I really get the feeling that the only reason he refuses to believe that she "betrayed" them or became a "traitor" is because saving will is ABSOLUTELY hingeing on her and her powers (at least, in his mind). Mike is not dumb, he recognizes her abilities at this point. He knows what she can do. He knows that Lucas' wrist rocket isn't enough to defeat whatever is keeping Will in the upside down. He knows they need her. Her using her power on Lucas was a betrayal in itself. Every time she goes against the mission of saving will or betrays the picture of the iconic "superhero" in his mind, he remembers that she isn't the perfect person (because no one is, but she has to be if Mike wants to convince himself that he has feelings for her. If hes going to like a girl, she has to be perfect, because his facade can only go so far. As proven later in season 4 at rinkomania when he has the exact same reaction. "What did you do?" Thats not because its his best friend she threw or because of angela getting hurt specifically, but because it shows that Eleven isnt perfect.)

Im also saying that I don't doubt that he has some sort of love or affection reserved for eleven. I just don't think it's romantic. He admires her, he admires what she can do.

I think that with all these scenes leading up to their first kiss, it's apparent that Mike's friends and even his sister assume that he has a crush on Eleven right off the bat. Showing kindess to a girl automatically means you like them, so he must like her, right? But anyways, even with Nancy only knowing El for less than a night, maybe even just an hour, she asks her brother if he has a crush on her. Again, I think he just assumes that that's what he's supposed to feel, especially since people keep telling him it is. He feels something for her and her powers, but it's unusual, so it must be love, right?

All in all, I just know that these little details are purposeful, intentional. They go out of their way way put these things here, because every detail is important. He holds Will at a higher priority than his friends do, and obviously you could say that it's because he's Mike's best friend, but so are Dustin and Lucas. Their friendship is, at the very least, "special", as said by Noah lol. I'm just saying, we had more than a few crumbs even in season 1.

All of this is highly speculative of me, I know lol. But, I never see anyone talk about this. Maybe I just missed it and someone else already has, but I just wanted to point it out either way.

I did poke around and spoil myself a teeny just bc I have heard of a couple instances of ppl accidentally coming back to the Grove and it's already locked down. and I thiiiiink I should be OK? started the goblin camp, killed priestess gut, got fucking ritualistically smacked (which. astarion loved. scream.), and just rescued halsin. took a long rest in the gob camp bc I had been adventuring for a bit before and was low on spell slots. but more importantly.

i'm 20+ hrs into act one, still haven't finished dealing with the Grove situation, and apparently there's MORE big things in act 1??? I almost started the creche quest but reloaded bc laezel ran off and it seemed like a Big Thing (and again, not entirely sure if doing that before I dealt w the Grove would doom the tiefs). But goddaaaamn. Big game. I KNOW there's stuff I haven't touched yet, bc I happened upon the cave w the gnolls outside and. That felt like a pretty dangerous encounter lmao so I just. Walked back out. And there's other shit before act 2 apparently.

But other than that ive: fought harpies, rescued the windmill gnome, killed the hag, killed the spider matriarch (hellish. terrifying), almost died in an inn fire, killed the folks hunting karlach. sooo much and I still have the goblins to deal with!!! so much!!!!

Origins Logan -

Oh man he would be the cutest father. He loves coming home from work and seeing you and his kid waiting for him. You're outside reading while your kid plays in the yard and logan rolls up and he just smiles when his son runs up to him and starts blabbing about his day. Okay I am a girl dad Logan truth BUT for some reason I think origins Logan would have a son. Idk why. His kid would be a mini me, dressing like Logan and wanting to be just like his dad. It's soo freaking cute. Oo I can imagine that Logan brings your kid to work one day and Logan is a caring father and carries him around but he's still Logan so he's like yeah I'll give my kid an axe what could go wrong. Its just a lot of cuteness overload tbh.

Trilogy Logan -

He swears up and down he's not good with kids but he's really a natural. There's a reason he's one of the kids favorite professors. Now this Logan has a baby girl. He's still the big bad wolverine but now he's got his little red who has him wrapped around her little fingers. Like he's a tough "i don't fucking care" grader and lets the students do stupid shit in the danger room and then he sees his little girl and scoops her up in his arms and lets her watch. He'll point at like an injured student and ask her if she knows what an open wound is. Like Logan she's 5 chill out. She's like his little shadow. Its really cute but sometimes he does wanna smoke and he can't do that around her so he just picks her up and hands her to Aunt Ro for a second. He can have a temper but tries not to ever get mad at her. But she has seen him angry at someone else and one time she scowled and copied Logan while he was being snarky with Scott and oh my god her face scrunched up just like his and Logan forgot what he was even mad about in the first place as he coos at his baby girl.

DOFP Logan -

He's the best dad omg. He's teaching a history lesson when his little girl walks into the room, she's peaking her head into the door because she wants to watch her dad work. You're standing behind her and whispering for her to be quiet. Of course he notices, he heard you before you could even walk down the hall. He stops his lesson to bring his baby girl into the classroom and spends the rest his class with her on his hip teaching his class. The students loveeee her. She's basically their niece. Logan is hesitant to let them babysit or watch over her but he will let her sit in Jubilee's lap during class. He is the kind of dad to toss her up into the air super high to make her laugh and makes you incredibly nervous. He's the best damn dad and you'll see him grading papers with her asleep on his shoulder. It's just so fucking cute.

Old Man Logan -

He's pretty out of his depth here but he tries. I think he's not super affectionate at times because he's just so nervous. He's also a girl dad I don't make the rules. Like he loves her and will always take care of her but when she's crying he gets so worried that he lets you handle that. He's there but he's just so afraid. I think the breakthrough comes when you're out with Laura for a girls trip (you know making sure she knows you don't love her any less) and he's watching his girl when she just starts crying, like sobbing crying. She fell and hit her chin really hard and without thinking logan picks her up and hugs her tight, his big rough hands gently checking out her chin and making sure she's not seriously hurt. She just melts right into his embrace and seeks his comfort. She's not afraid of him. You come home to her curled up on his chest watching some disney movie. He cracks a smile and you feel your heart overflow with happiness. Laura sits next to him and you sit on the other side. Old Man Logan is kind of a hardass but he shows his love in other ways. Like your daughter will say she doesn't want to eat her veggies and logan just says tough shit but lets her leave after just eating one and he if she asks for a new stuffed animal Logan says no but comes home with a cute bear.

Worst Logan -

He's a natural and he doesn't even realize it. He has the same worries and doubts as Old man logan but he's more affectionate. Also a girl dad idc. He's constantly holding her low key or around her. He refuses to ever let Wade babysit. Fuck no. He covers her ears when Wade says something vulgar or swears and he threatens to turn him into a kabob. He is afraid of scaring her with his nightmares or just lashing out because and saying something horrible to her but his natural paternal instincts come out in full force. Oh loves putting her on his shoulders and pretending to drop her. She clings onto him like a koala. He's not great with the more emotional moments so he tends to leave those to you. But if he does know in the back of his mind that he has three claws ready for whatever poor soul decides to try and date his daughter. Part of his new life becoming a dad and he does everything he can do be good at it. He may falter in some places, arguments or being too protective but its all from a place of love and they always make up by the end of the day.

What are your thoughts on transformers prime and transformers one?

TL:DR I liked both! TFP was my first Transformers show that I watched all the way through and TF1 was a lot of fun! Opinions on Starscream under the break pfpfpfpfpfpf

Prime was literally my first Transformers experience (Okay that's not true, I did see the first Bay movie when it came out but lets not talk about that). It's really good! My favorite character was Ratchet, I loved that he's just a tired, grumpy, racist old man and he's a doctor. Knock Out was the best thing to come out of TFP and he really should be in more stuff. Really would have loved a fourth season but it wouldn't have been the same without the children around. I liked what we got!

Prime has an excellent Starscream, Steve Blume does an amazing performance with both his deep conniving gravel and his high pitched terrified sputtering. So much character in his animation too, especially in later seasons, and an incredibly compelling character arc. Prime Starscream is not a good person, but I would burn the world for him, and I like the small moments in the show that hint at something in his character that could be turned to good, but circumstance always works against him in that regard. He's just so pathetic, but also competent and dangerous, all the best qualities of a Starscream and a very unique design!

Transformers One was quite good, I was worried because of the trailers but I was surprised by how well executed it all was. None of the characters were annoying, and making Optimus Prime originally one of the oppressed class alongside Megatron was a good move. The scene where Orion gives Dee the sticker is so cute, I simply cannot. The ending felt a bit rushed but what can you do, it wasnt so bad that it's a problem for me.

I would have loved just a little more Starscream in the movie! Like, I knew he wasn't really gonna be in the movie much so i was prepared for it to be little more than a glorified cameo, but I loved a lot of what we did get and I feel like it was missing just a little bit more! Like, the whole High Guard turned rogue backstory he has is great, implies some honor to his character since he didnt keep serving Sentinal when the guy turned Cybertron over to the Quintissance. I think it's hilarious that Starscream is so much older than Megatron. Like, they gave us a lot of food to make headcanons out of, but then the rushed ending kind of left me with no real reason given for him and the rest of the High Guard to go with Megatron without a fight. Like, I think the reason given was that, because Megatron beat him up that one time, and then killed Sentinal, and since the High Guard became a might makes right society and hates Sentinal, I guess thats why they are loyal to him now. And I guess the one line where Starscream is like "all hail megatron" is supposed to indicate he's 100% behind Megatron now and not just a spur of the moment thing. And I guess them following his command to destroy the city is why theyre being banished. But like...idk, every other plot point was well established and properly played out, and the whole decepticons thing just didnt really feel like enough, and i kind of feel like it should have been more clearly communicated considering its an entire one side of a two sided war? I feel like we werent shown the high guard doing anything egregiously bad besides attacking people because megatron told them to.

Like, there's nothing in the movie to suggest that Starscream and the High Guard arent still loyal to the Primes. So when Orion comes back as a prime, like a proper prime, with the matrix and everything, which everyone knows will make the energon flow again, I'm surprised Starscream didnt at least try to make excuses or worm his way into avoiding banishment? My headcanon is he wanted to kill Sentinal as bad as Megatron and so when Megatron finally does what he failed to do for 50 cycles, he's like aite im ride or die for this guy. Maybe 50 cycles of living in the wilderness doing nothing but scout and pit fight all day changes a guy and they dont wanna live in a society anymore. Why dont they accept Optimus as the new prime? They helped him and Elita save their friends, and unlike Sentinal Optimus has the actual Matrix this time. Idk mang. Woulda liked a bit more.

Transformers One, not my favorite design for Starscream. The head vents going wide at the bottom look weird to me, and his legs are so long and flat.

seriously this panel is so,,, god,,, like not only the parallel makes me insane but wow the shapes and colors here too. i am easily amazed clearly LMFAO but gosh idk i just really like this,,, the swirl of summer flames lashing around and javier's wings also being curled as part of the swirl, centering to a single point around the eye of summer,,, which is also similar to the older panels of suho reaching to the light bc they usually ended up also pinpointed on a single point in at least one of the panels . oh my god it just keeps going im so . AAAAHHH!!!!!

i think it's interesting too that one of the differences is that both of them are reaching, but in this panel his fingers are wider outstretched. like, suho's hand reaches, but lloyd's hand is about to grab, does that make sense? that's what it looks like to me,,, of course i'm not sure how intentional that is (it likely isn't and is just that way bc it's been so long since the original panel was drawn) but it's a nice difference to point out either way,,, he's finally reaching it

• his hair is actually curly, it's not just messy. but he's not too sure on how to take care of it, so he just tries to keep it relatively tangle-free and not too frizzy. he ends up getting help from ann and haru later down the line.

• soggiest, saddest puppy eyes ever. he looks at someone sadly and it's like a punch to the gut. maybe it's the fact he doesn't realize he does this, that makes it so effective.

• very awkward about physical affection. he doesn't want to overstep boundaries, doesn't want to make anyone uncomfortable - typically this means other people have to initate physical affection with him of their own accord. he does enjoy it though! he loves hugs!

• extremely protective. he doesn't act like it much of the time, but if someone is uncomfortable or upset, he's quick to put the attention on himself, or get right in the offending person's face. he's done this to akechi. multiple times.

• self-sacrifical. he doesn't appreciate the other phantom thieves being put in danger, and will always use himself to shield them. they're grateful for him, sure, but seriously, it's worrying. they want to help too, you know...

• one of the only people he voluntarily initiates affection with is futaba. your honor, they're siblings!

• can't help the older brother instincts. it's just his protective habits but amped up, but he doesn't realize he acts like a sibling until makoto points it out to him offhandedly, after a study session.

• the group's photographer. she LOVES taking pictures of her friends - she has dedicated albums for each event (holidays, school events, celebrations), and then dedicated albums for each friend!

• meticulous skincare routine. can identify potential acne causes with just a few questions.

• SLEEPER BUILD. this girl can knock your lights out, even if she doesn't look like she can. you can thank ryuji for helping her learn how to build a body type like that!

• as she starts getting out of the house more, she ends up needing braces to help keep her joints in place and supported. she uses a mix of kinestheology tape (good for supporting joints and reducing pain!), and actual medical braces.

• has repeated stress injuries in her forearms, wrists, and hands from being at her computer all day. wears compression sleeves and braces to help with this!

• the headphones she wears are sound canceling, but she usually has music or a podcast playing at a low volume through them too. but she cranks the volume whenever she's in public to help with anxiety being around other people! she wears them around the back of her head instead of On her head, however, because it gives her headaches to do that.

♣︎ SOJIRO SAKURA .

• once he warms up to akira more, he feels really bad for how he treated him at the start of akira's stay with him.

• intentionally starts buying a little more ingredients than he really needs once akira catches onto how to make the curry really well. he doesn't want his charge to starve, after all. he's not heartless.

• he loves dancing. when nobody's around, and he can play the music he likes, sometimes he'll shuffle the footwork to old dance steps he doesn't have a partner for, but loves to perform, anyway.

• totally a geek. a fan of stuff like old voltron series, star trek, classic video games - the works!

• a creative type! knows how to woodcarve, but doesn't do it much. it's messy :( and it's a health and safety hazard to make food for the public with open wounds on your hands, so... better safe than sorry.

• would totally let futaba dye his hair if she really wanted to. but only streaks! little highlights! nothing too fancy, you got it?

● AKECHI GORO .

• breakfast is his favorite meal of the day. a moment of peace before work, time where he can sit and eat something he likes, before he gets up and at it.

so what is auspisticism? as it is defined in homestuck, it is a relationship where two trolls are for some reason unable to enter a fully fledged kismesissitude, and a third troll enters the relationship to mediate. it serves a crucial social function, though there is no reason to assume it isnt born through real romantic feelings. if we take a look at the other conciliatory quadrant, moirallegience also serves to soothe the violence highbloods are prone to, however few around these parts would deny that moirallegience is a emotionally fulfulling romantic relationship.

So, to prevent this from being an issue, they decided they were going to become the Silver Death

Many had tried to become the Silver Death since the death of the last one 17 years ago, and all of them had failed

This is because in order to become the Silver Death, you must hold a cursed object known as the Donmai that once belonged to Xavier himself

The Donmai is very dangerous, and if not handled by someone with utter devotion to something, it can cause insanity or even kill the attempted wielder. If the person trying to attain it's blessing is insincere, or not completely devoted and dedicated to whatever they are holding in their mind, they will go insane and/or die

Janus wasn't worried, they knew what was driving them forward in life, and the only thing that was giving them purpose

Zane was not so sure. He did believe that they cared for him and would defend and protect him with their life (they'd proven it several times over at that point) but he also knew that the Donmai had a super high bar to pass, and even the slightest waver in your resolve would lead to insanity

But they insisted, and if Zane figured that if couldn't trust Janus, who could he really trust at that point?

They prepared for the ceremony, and the people took to the streets to either watch the selection of a new Silver Death (hasn't happened for over 30 years) or watch another idiot die in a desperate bid for power (entertaining!)

The Donmai was brought out in it's elaborate protective case, everyone else wearing thick gloves and protective gear to let them handle it

Some people were praying to Irene or Eamonn or even Xavier for this to not go as horrifically wrong as all the previous ceremonies, the tension in the air was thick and nobody seemed to believe they could do it

Janus did feel scared at that point, they had never feared death before, but they didn't want to die like this, in a ceremony. They had always imagined their own death on the battlefield, or some form of combat

The time had almost arrived, and it was in front of them, just within arms reach. It didn't look particularly dangerous, but they knew better.

A tradition that took place just before the attempt to attain the Donmai's favor was for the High Priest to whisper an inaudible short prayer to whoever was attempting to complete the ceremony, they mutually agreed it would be a prayer to Xavier beforehand

But, when Zane leaned in to whisper the prayer, the words failed him. He couldn't think properly, so, instead, he said

“Don't let it take you from me, I still need you.”

And he pulled away, leaving their heart racing in their chest. All thoughts of fear or doubt vanished from their mind, all thoughts of anything but the man in front of them vanished. That was why they existed - they were for him, and they were going to prove it

So they took hold of the Donmai with obsessive focus, and their flesh burned at the contact with the cursed metal, but Janus hardly noticed compared to their own emotions and their heart racing

Holding the Donmai was unlike any experience they had ever had, it was like their whole body ached and burned and froze all at once, their good eye blurred with involuntary tears. The cursed object seemed to be demanding something of them, a reason it should let them live

And those words echoed in their mind - that Zane needed them. That was all the reason they needed for anything, that their life may as well be his, and they didn't get to die until he saw fit. That they were his, so, really, any pain didn't seem all that bad compared to the joy it gave them to have that privilege.

He's not used to someone caring about him this much, let alone protecting him to such an extent. He doesn't really know how to act when it happens. He does make sure you're alright afterwards (and if you end up getting physical, he'll make sure you're taken care of.)

He's understanding on why you're so protective, though.

hey so not too long ago, i saw a post from rz twitter that said that during the first loop where subaru meets otto, when subaru met the witch cultists and were chanting something to subaru before they left, that these cultists left because some outsider (who's therefore an enemy to their witch and its prophecy) was nearby. And the tweet said how that "nearby outsider" was actually otto who stayed behind because he was worried that subaru, (whom he met only as a customer in that loop and otto had already fulfilled his job) would succumb to danger. And despite frufoo's warnings, it's heavily implied that otto had in fact died in that loop waiting for subaru to come back. And the replies were saying that it's common knowledge?

First of all, is that true? I can see how one would come to the conclusion that the cultists left because otto, an outsider, was nearby. But i haven't seen proof of the implication that otto died from that loop. Secondly, with this perhaps being true, does that confirm that any loop in which otto was nearby and subaru is in danger, that otto risked his life for him? Some ppl say "but the whale incident!" But like you said way earlier, otto came back to him after pushing him off, and it's implied that he died trying to save subaru. There's no loop i can recall otto leaving him to the dust, even when he doesn't know who subaru is. And thirdly, Otto get some self-preservation skills, you barely knew the guy and already risk your life for him. What the fuck.

HAH anon your ask intrigued me so much i immediately went to the anime to try and confirm this. and bc the anime is the closest bit of info i got wjdndn i dont have arc 3 ln or access to arc 3 wn (i do not understand japanese either, sadly) but!! while the anime doesnt explicitly confirm otto died in that first loop his character debuted in, i think its definitely a possibility that he died to the witch cult there. (if anyone knows the lore on this for sure though feel free to add?? yeah)

also regarding about whether this is common knowledge or not—id argue its kind of not, at least in certain circles, bc im gonna be completely real i had to double check the anime to see how well i remembered it bc its 1. been a while since i’ve watched season 1 in full and 2. when i was looking at it on my first watch i was focused more so on what the hell was happening to subaru, rem, emilia camp rather than otto, who at the time seems like just some random guy who wont appear ever again. but also maybe im a little too used to people misinterpreting rezero over on reddit ajfbdnd bc some people STILL completely forget that otto went back after pushing subaru off the wagon. and some people still forget ottos died for subaru even though its super obvious in arc 4?? so i dont think ottos involvement with subaru across loops is really common knowledge? or at the very least its not common for Certain portions of the rezero fandom bc i see ottos whole fixation on subaru gets glossed over at times. but i do genuinely think moments like the first loop with otto are probably easy to sort of miss if youre not paying attention. but also again i might be a little bit brainwashed by rezero redditors misreading things bc the amount of people that forget otto went back for subaru in the white whale loop made me doubt my own memory of that scene to the point where i rewatched it in the anime just to be sure wkdndnd. i dont really see any english rezero people talk about this loop in particular too unless theyre referring to you know, rem arlam and emilia camp dying. but anyway moving on for now…

alright!! lets go over this scene i suppose. the anime doesnt go into like. Specifics, like how the tweets you mention do anon, but it does have some interesting stuff.

in the anime, the first loop with otto happens in episode 14 to about the beginning of 15, but the focus is of course more so on subaru, rem, arlam, etc, bc rem left for the mansion and subarus trying to get there quickly so he pays otto to do that. otto takes the time to warn him before they even set off, not only for his own sake but also for subarus:

but you know, bc ottos desperate for money bc hes in debt, he takes up the job. but once otto and subaru actually get to the road leading up to arlam and the mansion, otto stops bc frufoo’s frightened and shes warning them of danger—

but subaru being subaru jumps off anyway and leaves. he says this quickly before he goes:

otto replies by trying to call out to him desperately as he runs away:

your point about ottos self preservation is super interesting anon because otto DOES have self preservation skills. he almost kind of prides himself on it, sometimes—as a merchant, especially from a merchant family, hes been raised to treasure it. to go for things that work in his favor. especially with his bad luck fucking him over too. and he can be slightly morally ambiguous at times, so he is Very aware of self preservation and staying out of trouble. but at the same time, leaving behind innocents does kind of weigh on him bc. well hes still human. that and the further into rezero you get, the more clear it is that ottos self preservation skills just get thrown out the window the moment he sees subaru. like otto takes a significant amount of time on screen to complain about danger or trouble hes found himself in, or go on and on about how the moment he sees danger, hes just gonna turn around and run—but its just COMPLETE AND TOTAL BULLSHIT SOMETIMES. he has plenty of chances Every Time to turn around and run and the moment subaru enters the picture, he doesnt take it. the only exception to this was him leaving subaru in greed if, but thats because he saw that subaru didnt give a shit about him and even then. he made that choice FOR subaru’s sake too, bc he recognizes that greed if subaru is just gonna micromanage everything and deal with it on his own. otto knows he’d just be another burden to subaru, so he leaves to lessen the load.

main route otto though? yeah youre absolutely right his self preservation is way beyond dead at this point. his self preservation is absolutely gone when it comes to subaru. this first loop is an example of it—while of course ottos you know treating subaru like a stranger bc thats what they are, he goes out of his way to warn subaru repeatedly. at first it looks like its mostly just for his own benefit bc hes Also in danger here, but then he says that he cant just accept taking subarus money and items. he talked about how hed accept subarus payment just a few minutes before this?? and we know in retrospect that he desperately NEEDS money bc hes in debt??? and subarus giving him an out right now to just leave and not look back but he still hesitates and frantically tries calling after subaru??? he has EVERYTHING to gain from just taking the money and subarus things and just leaving, but we dont actually see him leave on screen.

and then right after this, we cut to subaru running to arlam. of course, the witch cult stops him, and in the anime, all they do is circle him, then bow (to foreshadow how the witch cult + petelgeuse think that hes one of them, im assuming), and then they disappear without saying a single word.

its interesting to note though that when they leave, they run towards the direction subaru just came from. which is where otto was.

and then subaru keeps continuing on to arlam and the mansion where he finds out that the witch cult Basically wiped everyone out there. episode 15 continues this loop and then quickly ends it bc subaru is having a mental breakdown finding everyones corpses and then he promptly proceeds to die to puck (iirc?) inside the mansion. and thats all the details the anime gives about the ending of this loop. so no clear hint like the white whale loop that otto Died from this, but i think the implication is definitely there if you choose to read into it. (again, im not sure if the ln adds more details to this or not, but iirc the anime doesnt touch on this much.)

its strange that the witch cultists that find subaru just. up and leave in the direction where we Know otto likely is, bc 1. the cultists move Fast and 2. only a couple minutes passed at most, so its likely that otto is Still There, even if he did start trying to leave. even then though, i think its in character for him to still be there and try to wait for subaru. or, at the very least, otto waited there debating with himself on whether he should just leave or not. waiting there satisfies both his self preservation and the guilt he’d feel if he just abandoned subaru—he doesnt go any further to minimize the danger to himself and frufoo, but he doesnt completely leave just in case subaru comes back or if otto decides to move forward and check on subaru or something. but then we see subaru find everyone at arlam and the mansion dead, and we the audience know the surviving witch cultists left in the opposite direction (where otto is) after killing everyone at arlam, so—i think theres a connection there. as in: yeah. if otto was still there, hes probably dead.

additionally, of course later in arc 3 we see that otto gets captured by the witch cult. this time he was captured bc the witch cult caught him hurrying to get to another location for its job offer, so the witch cult captured him to interrogate him on what exactly he was doing iirc?? so in that sense yeah he was caught by the witch cult for being an outsider getting into witch cult territory while they were in the middle of doing shit (and he likely wouldve been killed if ricardo and the others hadnt rescued him) o.O

but yeah thats all the animes got regarding the first loop (aka ottos official debut into the main story as well)!!!

but like. once you think about it - yeah Every Time in the main route that ottos been near subaru and theyve gotten into danger? otto actively puts himself at risk for subarus sake. and he doesnt always die or get hurt for it, but we know that he ALWAYS goes out of his way to help subaru. hes been like this since his debut in arc 3, practically, regardless of whether or not he actually died there. bc he still Lingered around and tried to warn subaru not to leave.

so what im saying is that so much of ottos screentime is spent helping subaru in some way.

tbfffff I have to say I have done dumber stuff for non-marc athletes... here's one - at a certain point last year I made desperate promises to the universe that I would *check notes* send a voice note of myself singing the american national anthem if only we could get this W. which I ended up doing at three in the morning my time, so that's still a recording that exists on my friend's phone. if we'd gotten the follow up win in the final I would've learned how to play the anthem on the piano too and sung along like it was so serious... it had never been so serious... obviously as ever it ended in tears so I was safe on that count. luckily since then I've been sufficiently traumatised that I'm over it and no longer have any genuine feelings over sports. I'm free

anyway with marc at least it's kinda? he's won so much that y'know the results aren't life or death for me, everyone already knows how good he is, especially in a year where realistically he's not reallyyyy in the title fight p4 or p6 isn't life changing for me. Not because he is a woman, of course, but because he stands risks of similar types of violence and discrimination. Maybe only when he's a child. see i think that stuff like that could be done well (wonder egg kind of did it! even though it was a very messy show so its hard to tell exactly what the point was...) but i also think that it would be veeeerrry easy to botch, especially if you dont have firsthand experience. and im not saying that its impossible to write for people w different experiences than you, im just saying it requires a lot more conscious effort. but youre being conscious by asking so thats good!

like you said, its tricky because it could imply that the misogyny trans men face via ppl seeing them as women is "binds" them to womanhood so to speak. and personally i think that my knee-jerk reaction to seeing that is skepticism about what the author thinks of trans people. THAT BEING SAID you could also work around this by just... also including a trans WOMAN in her sphere? i honestly would suggest doing that either way, if you want it to be clear that the goddess also stands for trans people.

but in regards to the child part: not every trans person thinks of their gender in the same terms, many people do think "i was a girl then, but now im not" rather than "i was always a man" (and sometimes its a combination of both, its complicated!). but i do think that if handled poorly the former could also translate to "since this character was a girl, then hes on some level still a girl even if he doesnt identify as such anymore" which is dangerous. the issue is that its a very very very common belief that trans men are actually just scared and confused girls who were manipulated or groomed in some way, and that they have to be PROTECTED from this terrible fate in which theyre mutilated and victimized. and since this is a /protection/ circle i think it needs to be made clear exactly what he is being protected from. it cant be just vague misogyny, because many could take it to be the former- that hes some sort of recovering victim of the trans mob forcing him to give up his divine femininity or whatever

it really would be a safer bet to make the trans character a woman, because transmisogyny is such a rampant issue and making it clear that trans women are welcome in women's safe spaces is important. that being said you could also do BOTH, like i said before. or even include cis men impacted by misogyny in other ways too, if you dont wanna make it a women's only club. if its moreso about the type of discrimination than the exact gender of the person experiencing it, i'm sure your oc wouldnt stand for any type of discrimination that hinges on the idea that things considered feminine are lesser. it could be as simple as an ostracized gay guy being treated like he's "unman", or a big cishet man who keeps all his emotions hidden for fear of being seen as weak, or a little boy who gets bullied for crying, or something. these are all just suggestions that i'm spitballing, you dont have to use them (its your story!) but it could help with not making the trans guy feel like hes either an "odd man out" or... like a hes woman. which is what you wanna avoid!

of course, if you wanna keep it generally women-only (and i still suggest including trans women in this) and you wanna depict him as a child pre-transition... i think that could work in a way. again i think its tricky, but it could be the sort of thing where, since he's a kid, he's afraid to leave the comfort of being a girl (all he's ever known so far!) in order to embark on the unknown transition into manhood. there's a lot there that's genuinely so scary. "what if i'm wrong? what if i'm not accepted? what if i lose everyone i love? what if ill always been seen as a woman anyway? how will i be safe?" and you can have it be the sort of thing where the goddess ENCOURAGES him to try anyway, and thats its okay if hes wrong, because the people who have loved and supported him so far wont stop. that he will still be welcomed and protected, not because hes a woman but because hes loved either way. that he wont lose his community over becoming a boy, and she will still watch over him. i think thats what you want to go for, right?

Is this something you guys can do something about it look into more? Its kind of concerning. Theres been some mentions of her using flavors of Mountain Dew to upset him and "make him listen". She also keeps contradicting her statements of what "he made her do" and what was "her idea". She also keeps pushing dangerous propaganda, that sermon seems against. She keeps insulting him with petty insults, and he seems rather concerned about her, and the people Involving themselves with her. She also apparently made him do something that has left a permanent scar on his form, and he said he doesn't like it for some kind of reminder of what they did? Lilith is also drugging people. That seems very illegal. If a squips objective is to do what the host wants, maybe he's only following along with this cult thing because that's what she wants? She seems to be the one most involved with the negative aspects. He seems to disagree with it. She doesn't seem safe for a SQUiP . It's worrying!

Leverage Log: The Cross My Heart Job

Before i get into the Cross my heart job quick summary of the plot i skipped logging: There's a guy who was watching the company they heisted in the Nigerian Job, who saw the fallout of the Nigerian Job when they conned Dunevich (or however it is spelled)

He's been tracking them, and mirroring Hardisons market shorting.

This is our season antagonist (presumably), he's affable and doesnt actually seem evil? Like yeah he's a stockbroker and all but he's betting on the team and entirely right to say that, from a market-perspective. The teams acts are merely correcting false market forces. Like i get Nate hating him, but also he's an interesting reflection of our protagonists. The best kind of vulture. Also there was a carnaval and a "buried alive" episode. I liked the carnaval episode (we need more marks with somewhat sympathetic motivations) and the reunion in the Grave Danger Job was heartwarming

Now onto our actual episode: Oh, they stole a donor heart... that is a hell of a way to get yourself on Nate's Shitlist. Guess its time for a seasonal reminder that Sam existed. (that might read as sarcastic, it isnt. its a statement of fact not a statement of value)

Always love when series gets "Jessica Fletcher syndrome" (that being, even on our day off we find a case), Nate walks into the airport and instantly spots the enemy plot.

Also love when series pull an Eventide Island, seeing our established badasses forced to rely on their bare essentials. Because after a certain level of "Hardison has at multiple points claimed he owns satellites and everyone in our cast has enough money they can fly to Ecuador as a distraction" it starts to sound less like "our heroes are badass" and more "our heroes kit is badass". (im gonna be honest, im a bit worried about the future of the show on that point, what with Parker2000 having been invented, that is very much the sort of thing that preludes into a jumped shark. Nothing against the cute little frog-bot design wise, its the narrative purpose that is worrying.)

"if we're naked we steal clothes" Great line, 10/10.

Love the swift efficiency with which they buyout the seafood restaurant. And the way Nate instantly recognizes the name of our antagonist. The reminder that their shitlist is a mile long, they study these people months in advance and that this guy was under the radar because he was dying already.

Also nice to see the show point out something that isnt always obvious about its premise. The show tends to present it as "innocent victim approaches Team Leverage at Nate's Bar and tells them about the Crime", but its actually "Team leverage scouts out rich people, does their research, identifies key victims and interviews the victims as part of the research" When someone shows up at Fords Bar at the beginning of an episode, its because Ford called them there. So having Ford say "i've been scouting Dean Chesney for a while, he's just low priority cause this problem will probably solve itself..." is nice.

Ironic that the only reason Dean Chesney is this desperate is cause he's too dying to get on the donor list. Which is also the only reason Nate hasn't taken him down months ago.

"God helps those who help themselves" followed by "And I help those who cant" with a final "God help you if anything happens..." and a climactic "I didnt kill you, God killed you"... Lovely combo of lines that are both amazingly dramatic and a nice reminder that this guy almost became a priest. Whichever writer came up with that deserves a raise. 11/10. Havent seen enough of his religious background in a while.

I also apreciate the subtlety in this episodes placement within the season. They deliberately placed it after the previous episode because they knew that some members of the audience might feel that Nate should've taken the deal (even more resources to track down even more crooks in exchange for a 24 hour window).

So the writers put the "you have two hours or the boy dies of not having a donor heart" job imediatly after that offer to emphasize that, when dealing with human lives 24 hours is a lot.
