I just finished Equal Rites!! 🥳 and the cinder block that is The Count of Monte Cristo. While I do have books queued up to finish next (Red Side Story & Don Quixote are first), I find my 2024 book list running short... What should I add to it?

I do!!!! Let me tell you about Dorian!!

He's one of my few primparas. He only shows up in one specific au of my marauders fictparacosm but honestly that au stands on it's own and might as well be my own original creation

Dorian is a vampire pirate (a vampirate as Dean Winchester might say) captain with an entirely vampire crew. They didn't feel safe in regular society, being persecuted and having to hide and having no safe access to the blood they need to survive, so they decided to take to the seas instead

One time when docked, a small newly-bitten werewolf child (Remus) who's parents abandoned him for what he has become, stows away on his ship. Dorian doesn't find him until after they've set sail again

Vampires and werewolves have a strong instinctual distrust for each other so Dorian at first is all "he'll stay in the brig and as soon as we dock again I'm throwing him off I don't care what happens to this 5 year old alone" but he gradually accidentally becomes attatched and instead of throwing him off, Dorian adopts Remus and raises him to be a pirate too

I need to develop how the magic system of that world actually works still and decide how much of the source material I'm scrapping so it's still a work in progress but I like the silly fun little daydreams I get of them when I listen to shanties
