The reason David Tennant is the universal Tumblr experience is that he’s just unavoidable. You like sci-fi? He’s the Doctor (x2). You prefer other science fiction? Star Wars? He’s there. He’s Crowley Good Omens. You like Marvel? He’s Kilgrave. You like your standard Disney animated fare? He’s Scrooge McDuck. You like Shakespeare? He’s Hamlet. He’s Macbeth. He’s Benedick. He’s Richard II.
And if he’s not there, his family is. You prefer Classic Doctor Who? You’re watching his father-in-law. You’d rather watch fantasy, like something set in the Game of Thrones universe? Well, buddy, you’re not gonna believe this—

in the lonely hearts club job leverage asks the question "does romantic love exist?" and answers it by having eliot buy parker a venus fly trap on hardison's behalf, expecting no recognition and revealing eliot remembers a throwaway comment parker made on their second job together.
we all know this.
but was anybody going to tell me hardison already had a browser window open looking for restaurants to buy eliot in portland in response at the start of the episode immediately after that? or was i supposed to figure it out on a rewatch all by myself?!

Broadchurch ramble 4
Have been rewatching S3, and this scene really warms my heart in some ways.
This scene, Alec awkwardly tried to explain why he had t leave early, but actually very cute I think. Maybe Ellie and their coworkers thought so too. These people are police, and they have known Hardy for years. It wouldn’t be so hard to guess what their boss would do, especially when he was awkward like this.
And look at the smile they shared! It wasn't mocking, instead, this smile felt kind and genuine and they were really happy for him, like 'Awww, our grumpy boss finally has some personal life except work! He's definitely going to see someone!'
Coworkers know what kind of person Alec Hardy really is now after all those things. His gruff exterior is a suit of armor that shields the heart of one of the most gentle, decent men. His temper is still awful during a horrible case, and he is still insociable and grouchy as always, but they do respect him now, and tbh, like him. He might not realise but his coworkers care about him. They might still call Alec Hardy 'shitface' sometimes, but I don't think this name now is as bad as it was in S1, or say, those time Alec just started working with them. More like something only they can say, and they will NOT allow anyone else to use this or anything to insult their boss.
Alec Hardy isn't an outsider anymore, he's one of them, part of this town now. (well, guess how long it will take him to notice this? Someone really should remind him, guess that person will be Daisy or Ellie)

okay but think about this
broadchurch shot the office style and then PC Bob comes up for his commentary "what do I think of DI Hardy?" and it cuts to a montage of Alec yelling MILLAHR and then Ellie at her desk massaging her temples "jesus christ"
and then cuts back to Bob "I think he's adapting well."

This is me, talking about how the version of “Maurice” by E.M. Forster that D.H. Lawrence read (and from which he borrowed several major plot points for his novel “Lady Chatterley’s Lover”) is not the final version of “Maurice” that we have today (and even that is not the final version, because Forster wrote an additional chapter that he later excluded where Maurice and Alec run off and become lumberjacks together, proving that even stuffy academics in the Edwardian era had lumberjack fantasies).

280 - State and Main
Tumblr media
Forgotten cinema, you ask? This week, we're coming to you with 2000's State and Main, a Hollywood satire and ensemble comedy from lauded playwright David Mamet. A farce about a film production wreaking havoc on small town America, the film featured a very Mametian cast of Alec Baldwin and William H. Macy along with of-the-moment stars on the rise like Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Julia Stiles. An ensemble win from the National Board of Review helped coast the film through the season, but it managed little other award mentions despite strong reviews.
This episode, we talk about David Mamet's high (but waning) regard in the American theatre in contrast to his more under-the-radar film reputation. We also talk about PSH's late-90s breakthrough years, SJP's reign over the Globes for Sex and the City, and WHM's surprising lack of an Oscar nomination since Fargo.
Topics also include "so that happened" as a punchline, Fine Line Features, and NBR giving Best Picture to Quills.

I sometimes feel it's just me against the weekly onslaught of people who continue to announce they love a character whilst misspelling said character's name that has been in place since 2008.

Silverova's very own list of 00 agents
Tumblr media
No idea if anybody will be interested to be fair, but well, I made this on a whim 🙃
Some notes:
This is Craig!Bond verse, set in 2014 shoo, shoo, Spectre
13 00s, because I don't think there has been any number above 0013 in the extended universe (that being said I'm not using any characters from said extended universe, because I just don't know them well enough). Also it puts Bond right at the middle 👀
001 is a weird case because he's both an OC and not an OC. He's technically the main character of the video game GoldenEye Rogue Agent, but since he's one of those silent protagonists everything but his name and appearance is completely made up by me
If @themuller13 is hanging around here, hope you're not mad that I couldn't find a better name than "Martisha" for Nomi
004 chose his name specifically to confuse people over the pronunciation (spoiler: it's Ka-zhee-myesh)... and also because I couldn't help making a Metal Gear Solid reference (Kaz, hmmm?)
"Panj" happens to mean "five" in Punjabi (thanks for the intel @00qsillyfanturtle)
James bloody Bond, a Catholic? 😱 Yessir (or ma'am, or any term that applies)
009 is named Eric after Eric Bryce (009 in the Spectre script)
My faceclaims for 008 and 0010 are respectively Regé-Jean Page and Joanna Dark (from the N64 game Perfect Dark)
0011 is Silver (my 16 year old OC) in 00 form. You might have encountered her in some fics of mine already
0013 is by far the least murderous one of them (followed by 005)
Religious background is just, well, a background--doesn't mean they're practising, or even believers
Languages in italics mean that said languages are more or less understood, though not enough to hold a conversation
You can ask lore questions on any of them, if you want. I'll be certainly happy to answer!
PS: damn, it's my 100th post 😮

Letters From Watson Liveblog - May 15
The Cardboard Box, Part 3 of 3
Tumblr media
I was about to say the same thing when Holmes interjected with his little author's note comment. At least Lestrade did the physical stuff of actually arresting and detaining Browner.
Tumblr media
The blue ribbon was a symbol of the temperance movement at the time, so there's a bit of historical context for what that means.
Tumblr media
There's really not much for me to say about Browner's testimony regarding the murders that Holmes didn't already deduce in the last letter. Browner killed his wife and her lover and sent their ears to Sarah because she evidently coaxed her sister to cheat on him.
I will say that I would have liked to hear Sarah's side about all this because Browner's testimony is obviously only from his perspective. He did admit to the murders, so there's little reason to lie, and he clearly feels guilty, but considering he is a self-admitted alcoholic I feel his story makes him out to be too much of a victim, despite being the murderer and all.
Either way, it is a nice change of pace to get the killer to just admit to everything and lay out the details of what happened. It's a bit like the end (or second half) of A Study in Scarlet in that regard, and it's definitely more entertaining than just hearing he got arrested.
Tumblr media
Of all the people to hope that the universe isn't ruled by chance, I did not think Sherlock Holmes would be one of them. Considering he works in crime, often absurd crimes at that, I would have assumed he'd gladly understand the random and chaotic nature of the universe. But maybe Browner's testimony moved him in a certain way or something.
Tumblr media
I assume the other case which Watson is referring to is The Naval Treaty, unless there is some other one I'm forgetting.
I also don't remember much about The Engineer's Thumb, but I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that it involves someone receiving a package with a severed thumb in it.
