I know the decision to have Julian's parents have him augmented was made on the fly but imo its pretty obvious from early on that Julian has Family Issues because he avoids talking about his family like the plague and I think they should've incorporated this into the Julian and Sisko dynamic right from early on because I think it would've made for some really compelling stories and moments and could've set up a REALLY interesting Julian and Jake dynamic which they kinda started to do but never fully went for

#star trek: ds9 #julian bashir #benjamin sisko #jake sisko #s1 Julian being so young and eager to prove himself and latching onto Sisko as this mentor figure to look up to #seeing Sisko with Jake and low-key seeking that fatherly figure connection which he won't even let himself think about #Sisko seeing this young brilliant doctor who's got all the makings to be something great and he's just GOTTA help him along #I think he would also catch on pretty quick that Julian's got Parental Issues #he tries to ask one day all casual like 'tell me about yourself :)' and Julian talks about nothing but Starfleet and med school #any attempts to ask about his family are met with awkward brief answers and redirections #and then theres the way Julian's eyes light up the first time Sisko invites him to watch a baseball game #like he Knows. he's a dad he Knows somethings up #but he doesnt pry #I also think it makes their dynamic more tragic towards the end of the series #where we have Sisko asking Julian to compromise his morals again and again #Julian's trust and respect for him gradually deteriorating #and then at the end of course Sisko is gone and they have no idea when he'll be back #which I think Julian would have a lot of complicated feelings about #but of course theres also Jake #I imagine they'd get closer #very brotherly dynamic #you know that scene in TNG where Wesley goes to Riker for girl advice and Riker and Guinan start flirting?#absolutely happens but with Jake asking Julian for girl advice and Julian wooing a girl at Quark's and Jake absolutely loses the plot #makes the events of ...Nor the Battle to the Strong more intense as well I think #also I like to think there'd be an episode where the B plot is Jake gets mad at Sisko and impulsively decides to move out #ends up at Julian's because he did not think this through #Julian is now very much caught in the middle of this family drama and he Fucking Hates It #also him and Jake are NOT compatible roommates but he's trying so so hard to be nice #eventually they have a talk and Julian cryptically hints at his own home life and tells Jake he's lucky he has a dad who cares so much #them being closer would work into what Alone Together sets up for them

#ann plays awakening #EDITING TO SAY I STARTED TAG VENTING HIT READMORE AT YOUR OWN RISK #anyways #LAST LINE IS A KILLERRRR WOW #‘ann werent you just pairing olivia with thar—‘ OLIVIA IS A BUSY WOMAN OKAY #but also i just had this old save file from when i wanted to see pink inigo and decided to get some more supports #im obsessed actually like #ok tag venting time maybe this should be its own post but u guys know who i am #not only does this support in my very educated opinion do a good job at emulating inigo’s way of speaking #but i think theres also a very underrated characteristic he has that not a lot of people talk about and its that hes honestly quite morbid #him spending hours talking to and dancing with his mother’s grave is very beautiful and moving but it is also not a normal way to grieve #which makes sense because duh nothing about his life is normal but its j like. you know #if robin is his father (and maybe j the normal convo i dont remember) in the hot springs scramble he’ll insist upon bringing—#severed risen limbs home as a way to remember the peacefulness (lol) of the springs #and he thinks absolutely nothing of it!!#i think he gets attached to things just a little too intensely and because his life is surrounded by death how he expresses that can be #very interesting. and he talks about death all time more than the other kids #bc while a lot of their coping mechanisms are based in fear and the need to instill confidence in themselves (think cyn or gerome or owain #or sev or yarne or noire)#and how their SCARED of death and of loss and adapt different behaviors to act like theyre not (to varying degrees of success)#i think inigo is much more accepting of the fact that death follows him and has made it a normal presence in his life #which is not a good thing it means that he hasnt let himself grieve. he lets death hang over him and follow him instead of pushing back #also guess which one of the awakening trio in fates has the canonical story death. just by the way lmao #anyways bc im writing this in the tags on my phone i cant actually see what the hell ive been saying im j stream of consciousnessing this #but my point is that inigo has a weird fixation on death and dying that stems from his inability to make peace with death and grieve #and i think him idolizing death in this support (this BRILLIANT fan support that made me ill) is so in character and so lovely #i miss him so bad (hes literally in the photos im posting) grghhhrgah #i wuv him :(

The Sae and Isagi parallels are stronger than ever. It's actually insane how strong they have been for the entire arc of Rin's goal in this match. Maybe some day I'll actually talk about them in depth.

This chapter also affirms that I was correct and the break up was really just a cop out until Isagi pulled himself together enough to challenge Rin again-- but I'm really curious to see how Isagi did what he did, and why? This chapter was entirely from Rin's POV so we don't really have much Isagi context. Interesting.

Involving Shidou feels a liiiittle bit redundant considering he did absolutely nothing relevant in this chapter except serve to make Rin's shot harder. The technicalities of the shot itself-- very very cool, even if it's not the most technically challenging goal of this match. Perfectly plausible as well.

Apparently there's every chance Rin stays in the match despite bleeding right now, and also every chance that neither Rin nor Isagi get carded or fouled for this particular collision.

Anyways. Happy Belated Birthday Rin! Nomura gave you a 5 star feast with that artistic goal.

Ugh I'm absolutely in love with this (and the album art book!!). I originally wanted to try and get a blue viynl, but I got impatient with HMV literally never restocking and Amazon selling out before I even know they're back on sale.

Did I maybe pay a little bit too much and indulge myself? Yes. But is it now among one of my favourite vinyl?? Definitely! Vessel's voice works so well on vinyl as well.

Hear me out (or don't... it's fine I'm just venting and mean) yeah um I don't believe Chakotay was saved in Prod*gy s2.

#the 'time travel' makes no sense when you think on it. What happened to Prime Chakotay? He got killed they showed that.#At the end s1 Janeway finds an 'alternate chakotay in an alternate timeline' and that's the one they go and get #we saw the original get merc'd in the message. That ACTUALLY happened. Lmao.....#They didn't prevent THAT death because they didn't go to THAT Solum with the Infinity and stop it from happening #instead it was 'ALTERNATE #' implying other.#OG Chakotay wasn't taken over by the alternative one either nothing suggests that was the direction for him in s2 #they didn't do anything like 'well you see chakotay because at the end of s2 when we converged timestreams you have merged with your other'#if they did want to recover the original from s1 then keep that clear instead of being convoluted dont use an alternate timeline wtf #instead the plot was focused on gywns stupid fucking paradox plot and her being fixed #chakotay was the one in a paradox too did that not matter nah dw about it he had to die for this outcome or someshit lmao why #In the extended message given to admiral janeway it shows him clearly getting left behind and surrounded. Sadly no one intervened.#I dont understand why they couldnt have just made s2 about his rescue alone IF they took their time it wouldnt be so difficult #to follow #above that the one they rescued was ruined by the 10 year gap so he wasn't 'saved' at all. God i hate s2 when you break it apart #I dunno the more i look at s2 Janeway and Chakotay the more upsetting it is. Janeway had fuck all this season #let alone settle for not fixing her own timeline and her own friends deadly circumstance dw just grab another one from the shelf i guess #the emotional fallout was absolutely missed because they didnt elaborate on anything. Plenty of show but no substance from the characters

Keeffe's script is sharp and funny but it's also #unashamedly complex; the plot is labyrinthine‚ underneath the simple conceit‚ and never feels the need to spoonfeed what's happening and #why. topped off with a great moody synth score that's sparingly but effectively used. happy to say this one lives up to the hype #and Derek Thompson‚ as he so often was‚ is brilliant. between this and his tv work from the era (Harry's Game and The Price especially) he #really had the makings of a true star (but if he was happy in Casualty all those years‚ so be it)

I want a whole series with Fourteen & Donna. Like that episode was just so great.

We have the Doctor showing how caring this version of them is by saying it out loud, by holding her hand, reassuring her thar everything will be alright, calming Donna down with acts of physical contact (the stark difference not only between ten, but also thirteen oh boy)

Then the breakdown – gave me waters of mars vibes, David's acting is just so amazing in that entire scene – showing us how the events with the Flux has left them, and how he wishes Donna could understand him without having to explain it. To share the pain of learning the beginning of his life, how they came to be, is a complete lie.

"A million years."

To unpack everything from the events of the timelord victorious, to the Ponds, learning gallefrey did not fall, events as Twelve, and then finally, you get to the newests of torments having learned of the timeless child.

For fucks sake I need them both to sit down and talk about it.

We also got to see how Donna is traumatized of being left behind again by the Doctor. That he somehow couldn't tell the difference between her and the no thing. Plays into the whole self-worth bit. And can I say, Catherine Tate, that acting was *chef kiss* because for a second I was convinced the damn thing had copied Donna 100% and I would've brokedown crying with her being left behind omfg

Also loved that whole parallel thing with their conversations when the no things are first shown, it was a quite nice way to prelude the horrors.
