As much as Misty has learned and grown through her experience as a Gym Leader over the years, the passage of time has dug a hole in the redhead's heart that can only be filled by one thing, and the pain of that deep longing comes to a head.

So I'm still in the process of reading my fiancé @echidnapower's fic, and right here is a scene from Chapter 2 of that story! Seems like Ash isn't the only one dealing with some serious heartache, as illustrated below.

After getting a sudden reminder of Misty's importance in his life thanks to her old handkerchief getting knocked out of his hat during a practice battle with Dawn, Ash is sent spiraling as memories of his adventures with Misty cause him to miss the redheaded Gym Leader more and more.

So even though I am literally marrying @echidnapower I have never actually read his old and (VERY OMG!) long story where he rewrites the Diamond and Pearl series to include Misty in it...you may ask why that is, and the answer is simple!

...he hasn't allowed me to.

Bless his heart, he wants the story to be up to his new standards, and he keeps telling me his old chapters make him cringe. But a few days ago he told me he's finally ready to let me read it, and I liked the first chapter enough to be inspired to draw this scene from it!

Ladies and gentlemen, it's here. The time has come to bring an end to the Team Galactic arc for my Diamond and Pearl rewrite.

Over 10 years, 80 chapters and over a million words worth of writing in that span. It's been a journey, and even still it's nowhere near over.

All I Want For Christmas Is You -  It's Christmas time and the Ketchum household is hosting a party with all of Ash's friends. Pokeshipping Week 2015 - My first time participating in Pokeshipping Week ever, hard to believe it was five years ago.

Pokeshipping Week 2016 - This year of Pokeshipping saw me collab with @hollylu-ships-it​, you can see the art she put together on her Tumblr page.

Symptoms of Love -  Ash and Tracey are hit by a Vileplume's Stun Spore, and Misty has to fend for herself in order to find a cure. But once she gets Ash back to health, Ash still feels many of the same symptoms from before. Why is that?

Tell Me I’m Pretty -  It isn't easy being the youngest sister, especially when your oldest sister is getting married and you're the only one without a date for the once in a lifetime event. Misty can't help but feel like she doesn't measure up somehow, but a surprise visit from her closest friend is sure to make her feel pretty once more. - Inspired by THIS piece from @hollylu-ships-it​.

The Road Not Taken -  When Ash gets some bad news from home, he goes into a depression and starts doubting both himself and the choices he's made. Warmth -  It's New Years Eve, and the recently married Ash and Misty Ketchum are ready to host their first ever holiday party at their home together, but when a snowstorm makes it so no one can arrive safely, Misty is saddened. But will they really end up spending their New Years Eve alone? Or will surprise visitors warm their hearts?

Iron Girl -  A robot girl who hates the fact she's a robot...will she realize just how important she is or will she continue to simply wallow in self-pity?

The True Meaning -  Both Ron and Kim are well aware of the true meaning of Christmas, and that's why they're volunteering at a church's Bethlehem Revisited event to spread the word. Kim's happy to help and all, but...why is Ron calling her such a weird name? - Warning for religious themes.

Trick or Treat -  Kim is pulling a trick on Ron, will it be a great treat, or is he about to suffer the wrath of Kim Possible? He has no clue, yet.

I Can’t Lose You -  A week after Tyson's battle against the evil bit-beast Zeus and his trapped blader Brooklyn, the world is slowly making its way back to normal. Kai managed to survive and is recovering in the hospital, and Tyson is getting some much-deserved rest. But when Kenny comes to tell Tyson that Hilary has quit the team, he loses it, and goes to find out why. My first Beyblade story.

Save a Dance For Me -  With the all new BBA launching with a gala to celebrate the occasion, Tyson finds himself in the uncomfortable position of needing to ask someone to be his date. Dreams of an Absolution - Silver lays awake at night and reflects on his life in this apocalyptic world Iblis has destroyed...but most of his reflections revolve around a certain fire girl with lavender fur. He wants to be happy with her, but a warzone is a bad place to kindle love, and so every night he lays awake, and dreams of an absolution.

Relations -  Knuckles has a problem. He's in love...but...that presents a very unique problem...or does it?

Running to the Point of No Return -  Sonic is the fastest thing alive, and Amy is told that that's the biggest obstacle keeping her and Sonic away from each other. But what's she supposed to do to keep up with him, when there's NO ONE fast enough to keep up with him?

Scars -  Some things that happen in life leave scars behind that go with us for the rest of our lives. For Miles "Tails" Prower, such a thing happened to him in the depths of space many years ago...the loss of his first true love...though the pain weakens and the scars fade, they never go away completely, and Tails has learned to live with and embrace that fact.

The Heart of Chao - Chao are adorable little creatures, and they make great pets for anyone who's looking for something to take care of. But there's more to chao than just being cute, they're filled with more heart and love than anyone can imagine, and that can sometimes lead to bringing others closer together. Here are just a few stories of that very thing happening to our favorite characters.

The giant meets the runt - it’s @echidnapower‘s Lucario vs. @theroadyouchoose‘s Ria!

The Riolus and Lucarios are slowly working their way out of my system...

In the meantime, though, here’s another drawing of @echidnapower‘s Lucario from “AAML: Diamond and Pearl.” Not based on any specific scene; it’s just, this Lucario shares Ash’s appetite, and it seems reasonable that he’d get the gang in trouble some day.

No idea where Ash is in all this; maybe he joined in on the food-thieving and already got caught.

@theroadyouchoose and @echidnapower both gave Ash a Riolu in their fics, and both distinguished their Riolu’s by size. TRYC’s Ria is smaller than average, while the Riolu of EP’s “AAML: Diamond and Pearl” grows to be much bigger than normal. The sizes hold true even as they evolve into Lucarios.

A fair amount of approximating is going on here. Ash seems to be drawn at about four heads high in the anime, with Pikachu at roughly two heads, a normal Riolu at roughly two-and-a-half, and a normal Lucario at roughly three-and-a-half. Since Sky and EP both let Ash age, I put him at a tad over six heads high for the DP era. Ria’s size in relation to Pikachu is based on this drawing by Sky, and her Lucario form is just under a head shorter than normal. EP’s Riolu ends up growing taller than the average Lucario, and his Lucario form is only half a head shorter than Ash.

Proportions are bit wonky, but I hope I got the sizes close enough!

(For sake of ease in determining heights, I ignored a quirk of the Pokemon anime; many adults, such as Professor Oak or the TRio, are drawn at about six heads high, not the usual seven or eight heads.)

How about fanfic ?

There are more of those out there than comics, and I’m sure I’ll miss someone, but:

 - It’s not exclusively or even primarily focused on Ash and Misty’s relationship, but @theroadyouchoose‘s whole series, “The Road You Choose,” is excellent, probably the most plausible take I’ve seen on an older/darker Pokemon story still set within the world of the show, and she does a lot of great things with Ash and Misty. You can find all her fics, and some neat accompanying art, through her blog.

 - @echidnapower‘s rewrite “AAML: Diamond and Pearl” is a lot of fun, IC, and ongoing. I’ll also mention his shorter work “I Miss You,” for the good use of Cilan and Iris.

 - @lightningenergy has a lot of pokeshipping-related drabbles; he’s collected most of ‘em here, and I think you can find more that at least make reference to them on his blog. Sometimes they touch on more adult matters, so fair notice.

 - It gets a bit mature as well, but “Mermaid Out of Water” by Ru Rabbit is hilarious.

 - “Five Days of Midnight” by Some Enchanted Evening is an oldie but a goodie.

 - “The Kingdom of Illusions” by Llybian Minamino is another oldie, and a really interesting take on things for them. It also uses the unusual combo of Ash, Misty, and Dawn, which I thought worked really well.

 - @drasticbookishsoda‘s entries for Pokeshipping Week 2016, especially Day 6 (”their relationship through the eyes of others”) were really good.

 - @crywonder‘s “Kanto Calling” was very nice.

 - @warlordess has quite a few one-shots you can find through her blog, as does @cultofpokeshipping.

  - With great use of the BW cast, “The Lure Allure” by iPods-and-Tea really charmed me.

 - Kate of @pokeshipping has written a couple of things - some AUs, an intense chapter fic with Team Rocket, some one-shots - but I’m partial to her collection “Moments.”

 - “You’re a Keeper!” by nyislandersgirl is a creative use of the XY/Z cast - well, most of the cast, at least.

 - PrincessofDestiny18 made use of a fairly popular headcanon (i.e. Max having a crush on Misty) to do a fun pokeshipping story in “Max’s Crush.”

 - @allthingsmisty‘s “Declaration” is another pokeshipping fic that knew how to get good use out of Cilan.

…And, if I must be completely shameless, I’ll go ahead and plug my own work in this field :D
