For a moment I saw desolation and grief on my husband’s face before he donned his composed mask once more. It was the vampire version of a disguising spell.

Jack returns to Matthew and Diana in the 21st century, a blood-rage vampire troubled and hurting. Matthew is all guilt and sorrow.

We know Philippe asked Gallowglass to watch over Diana, but they both knew it'd be a while before she was born.

Philippe also knew that Diana came from a long line of witches and that Ysabeau regularly hunted witches.

So, do you think Philippe traced Diana's family tree back as far as he could given the circumstances and had Gallowglass subtly guard her ancestors from his wife?

Food for thought!

So we know Philippe had a knack for giving tasks to his children and grandchildren that would be difficult to them (Matthew outing Catholics although he was a Catholic himself, and Gallowglass looking after Diana even though he was in love with her and could never have her). So I was just wondering, what did he make his other children and grandchildren do?

Philippe de Clermont is so fascinating because he operates like a Roman dictator whilst being a father.

With Marcus, I could see him perhaps using his grandson's revolutionary connections to betray friends when the crown was restored in France. He was fine with ordering the deaths of Marcus' children, so what's a few human friends?

Baldwin, with what little we know of him, I think probably did a lot of dirty work for Philippe. He was the centurion, the soldier. I wonder about his personal relationships and how much Philippe has perhaps controlled that. Especially considering Hugh left after mating with Fernando.

Ed Bluemel really stays playing bisexuals in love with women who are smarter than him and has issues with his father. I love that for him. I love that for me, more than anything though.

Matthew Goode vs. A Black Panther

A Goode fan on Twitter (layna_lane) attended one of the Blackbird Oracle promo tour events and reported back some of the lovely and interesting things Deborah Harkness said about Matthew Goode.

She said what drew her to casting Matthew was the way he moved - like a panther.

I agree, Matthew's way of moving and walking is very feline and in Discovery of Witches I thought it was breathtaking to see him portray an apex predator (vampire). I loved all these animalistic traits he gave his character, mesmerising to watch.

So this inspired me do make this video showcasing Matthew de Clermont/Roydon next to a beautiful black panther (I know deep doen MdC is a wolf lol).

This would not have been possible without the gorgeous footage from James Chandler on YT 🙏.

The other things Layna reported Deb said was that she was glad Matthew was cast, he has now become her MdC, and that he is kind, smart and funny (no surprise there but it's always nice to hear confirmation he is a wonderful human being).

I love Vampires that are so shit at hiding. Blood bags in the fridge next to the leftover pizza, framed photos of them from 200 years ago over the mantle. Not even trying but also bold face lying to the mortals with a straight face. Kiss on the head. You're perfect.
