HELLO, EVERYONE! I SAW THE BTTF MUSICAL YESTERDAY, AND AM READY TO POST SOME (SEMI) COHERENT THOUGHTS!
[Fair warning that some things here may spoil parts of the show.]
• First things first: It was so good. It was so, so, very good. Incredible show. I'd been hearing great things about the show since it first came out in London, and I've been listening to the music since it dropped, so I pretty much went in knowing I'd like it but it still managed to be even better than I thought.
• Just the setup of the theater itself and the ambiance prior to it starting was so cool. The way everything is lit blue and there's all the electrical zapping and humming. THE CONSTANT TICKING OF CLOCKS THAT FILLED THE THEATER. Nothing had even happened yet, and I was like, "This is such a good show."
• My one big cause for hesitation was Casey playing Marty. I know absolutely nothing about the guy, but Marty is just so dear to my heart, and MJF's energy and physicality isn't something easily captured. I had my doubts about seeing someone try to bring Marty to Broadway, but Casey walked onto the stage, called out, "Doc?" and I went, "Yeah, okay. There's Marty."
• For real, though, Casey was phenomenal as Marty. He had the vocal inflection down. The right amount of crackliness. Very good balance of cool kid and disoriented mess.
• Um. HUGH COLES?!? Talk about brilliant casting. I mean it when I say that he somehow seemed more George than George from the movie. The audience reacted with a sense of awe when he started speaking and moving around the stage. It was like Crispin Glover had been plucked straight from the film and injected with More Georgeness. When he did the laugh, the audience went nuts. His physical acting and the way he captured George's gestures perfectly was amazing to watch.
• As I'd expected, Musical Doc is ten times more chaotic and unhinged than Movie Doc. Roger Bart's comedic timing is impeccable. He earned himself frequent howling laughter from the audience from the moment he appeared on stage.
• His "Good thing I kept this radiation suit from my Manhattan Project days" line was a nice touch.
• "Despite my fear of heights, I was standing on my toilet," was such a gem of a line.
• THE DELOREAN. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE DELOREAN. I had no idea how they were going to depict a car speeding to 88mph on a small stage, but THEY DID IT. Astounding. Honestly might be the coolest effects I've ever seen done on a stage. Also, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the addition of it being voice-activated and talking, but it worked nicely!
• The musical obviously had to trim some parts of the movie—and even omit parts entirely—but it was done so well that you either didn't even notice or miss they were gone. The change from George being hit by a car to simply falling out of the tree was one of these changes. (Marty's under the tree trying to catch him, btw, which is how he ends up getting knocked out)
• I couldn't tell if this was an ad-lib from Casey, but when he was trying to get his pants back on in the Baines house scene, he started struggling a bit with the tangled suspenders that were wrapped around one of the legs of the jeans and muttered in frustration, "Why do I wear suspenders??" Very funny little moment.
• Great chemistry between Bart and Casey. The connection between Doc and Marty was THERE. The musical GOT IT RIGHT. So many hilarious moments between them in the form of completely unintelligible banter, where they're just talking over each other and having like...verbal tennis matches of nonsense. It's hard to describe in writing, but trust me, it was so good. It went something like this:
Doc: "Marty!"
Marty: "Doc!"
Both Simultaneously: *literal gibberish*
• There's a beautiful little addition to the scene when Marty shows up at Doc's house in 1955 and tries to convince him he's from the future. After Doc asks him to take him to this supposed "time machine" Marty goes, "Sure, hang on, I just gotta grab some flashlights." Then he goes straight to a cabinet and quickly retrieves two flashlights without a second thought, to which Doc is like, "How did you know they were in there??" Marty knows!! He knows exactly where the flashlights are because of course he does!!
• Perhaps one of the funniest moments of the show was right at the end of the "Future Boy" number, where the music stops and there's that breaking of the fourth wall moment. Doc and Marty look around in confusion at all the backup singers and dancers awkwardly standing around his house (one of the singers continues dancing/singing long after the others has stopped lol) and Doc wordlessly opens the door so they can all scurry out.
• Doc's dream of visiting the year 2020 where everything is perfect and there's "no disease" got some very loud laughter from the audience.
• Oh. Oh, the scene at Doc's house at night after the demonstration with the toy car. The way everything gets solemn for a moment, and Doc is doubting himself and worried about failing. Marty's lovely little speech about how everything will be okay because he believes in him. He trusts Doc. He knows it'll work and they'll get him home. The way Marty is the one looking after and taking care of Doc in that moment. When he asks, "Do you need anything, Doc? Can I make you a sandwich?" And then when he says softly, "Goodnight, Doc. Pleasant dreams."
THE MUSICAL GETS IT RIGHT. THE WARMTH. THE LOVE. THIS WAS SUCH A NICE ADDITION.
• "PUT YOUR MIND TO IT" !!!! I loved this sequence so, so much. Marty gets to strut his stuff while George flails around trying to imitate him. It was funny, the choreography was great, and we get such a nice Marty and George hug at the end! Why didn't they hug in the movie??
• The audience was super engaged and reactive through the whole show, but it noticeably ramped up in the latter part—starting with the night of the dance. There was such an excitement as people anticipated George swooping in to take down Biff and protect Lorraine. When Biff went down, the audience whooped and clapped and cheered so much.
• EARTH ANGEL! THE MOMENT GEORGE AND LORRAINE KISS. It was just like the movie. The music suddenly swelled, Marvin belted out, "The vision of your happiness", George and Lorraine kissed, and the audience. Lost. Their. Minds. It was as if people were experiencing the story for the first time—that's how strong the reaction was. So cool.
• Audience also went wild at the start of Johnny B. Goode. That was a neat sequence as well. Huge laughs at the "But your kids are gonna love it" line.
• The clocktower scene! Marty handing Doc the letter and saying, "I wrote you a thank-you note; don't read it until you get home!!" LOL. So many amazing effects going on in this one. For those of you who have seen the show, you probably remember Doc running up the clocktower stairs, right? Did the audience nearly die of laughter like they did at my showing? That was truly one of the top 5 funniest moments of the show, in my opinion. It had me giggling hours later once I was home. For those of you who have not seen the show, I don't think I can adequately put into words what was happening during this scene, but it was incredibly funny. It's good there wasn't any dialogue during it, because no one would have heard it with the way everyone was laughing.
• The fire trails on stage got quite the awed reaction. Super cool.
• The hug! We get our Doc and Marty hug at the end! I'm so glad they realized that moment was missing from the movie.
• I liked the shift from Marty waking up at home to him waking up on the bench in town instead. The "George McFly Day" part was a fun addition, and it flowed nicely into Marty's "Power of Love" performance.
• THE CAR FLEW. IT FLEW UP IN THE AIR AND THE WHEELS TURNED IN AND IT WENT OUT OVER THE AUDIENCE. HOW DID THEY DO THAT. IT DID A COMPLETE ROTATION UPSIDE DOWN WHILE CASEY AND BART WAVED TO PEOPLE. If anyone knows of any videos or articles explaining how they did things with the car, please let me know because I can't find anything and I would love to know how they did it! You couldn't see anything holding the car, and i'm so confused! The effects were so good.
• Love how, when the show ended, the giant screen on the stage just said, "Make like a tree and get outta here."
...I think those are all my thoughts. I was planning to write up a post with just a couple of bullet points of highlights and instead. Well. This is what you get from me, and if you've followed my blog for any length of time, you know that. But really, the show was so well done. I had a blast. I bought a pin that says, "Whoa, this is heavy" and I'm going to put it on my denim jacket :)
For those who are planning to see the musical, I hope this helps hype you up for it. And for those who can't see it, I hope this gives you a good look at what it's like!

The GT-R is a very cool car, by the way.
The Nissan Skyline GT-R has historically represented the pinnacle of Japanese sportscars, both in technological advancements and overall automotive capabilities. Hell, it earned the nickname "Godzilla" for how hard it dominated on track. We're talking "ending multiple racing series" domination (seriously, go have a read at its "Motorsport" section on Wikipedia, it is hilarious; it looks like a Chuck Norris meme).
Nowadays, the "R34" generation, the last Skyline GT-R, is probably the most famous and desirable Japan-only car ever (thanks in no small part to its lead role in 2 Fast 2 Furious, which in a true "DeLorean v. fridge¹" moment was going to be played by the Dodge Neon SRT4, which was a cool car, but you know...)
¹In case you didn't know, Back To The Future's time machine was going to be a fridge, but, since old fridges couldn't be opened from the inside, kids could've gotten trapped in emulation, so they instead used a DeLorean, significantly harder for kids to access due to poor sales, themselves due to the thing being pretty slow - so slow they had to import European gauge clusters for the 88mph thing because the US tach maxed out at 85 (which makes one wonder why they didn't just change the script to- wait how did the conversation derail like this? I swear this never happens. We were saying? Ah, right. The R34. Final Skyline GT-R. Ceased production in 2002 and that was that.
But then, a solid decade after the R34 left us, the Nissan GT-R dropped. Now a model unto itself, it no longer had to contend with the limitations that came with starting from a 'regular' car. And boy, did they have some fun and a half.
Like, this was some serious shit. Like "tires filled with nitrogen for more consistent pressures" serious. Its tech and engineering weren't just incredible in their own right, they added up to a car that indelibly cemented the GT-R name's reputation for slaying supercars. To properly communicate the level of not fucking around we're dealing with here: the video projected at its unveil was its lap at the Nürburgring [essentially, circuit racing's final boss, a grueling 23km/14mi hell where every sportscar is tested] that beat the production car record. With a damp track. I remember at the time, how spectacular it was to see Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche laptimes all get decimated by a car the fraction of the price with backseats and an actual trunk by the same brand that was making...
...this.
Yeah, this is not going to slay any supercar roster, is it.
Is it?
As you can imagine, that is no ordinary Nissan Juke. Well, however ordinary a Nissan Juke can ever be considered. No, that is the Nissan Juke-R. In short:
Yes, it's a Nissan Juke with the 600hp GT-R engine. And all the GT-R's tech. And the GT-R's All Wheel Drive system. And, well, most of the chassis of a Nissan GT-R. Which meant that you were seated far enough back to have the door pillars beside you, just as low as you did in the GT-R, and with nothing but a huge rollcage behind you, so the car was less comfortable, spacious and practical than the GT-R itself...
...and thanks to a much shorter wheelbase [distance between the wheels, for the unaware], much less stable than it too...
...and all this for worse performance due to the aerodynamic equivalent of a dog eating homework. All for five times as much money as Juke and GT-R commended combined.
Who approved this?
Yeah, checks out.
hmmm
#yes that last gimmick blog is me lmao#this whole explanation was half an excuse to reblog that chain because i find it very funny#nissan skyline GT-R#dodge neon SRT-4#delorean DMC-12#nissan GT-R#nissan juke-R

We have to go back, Martok! Back to the future!
By Ames
This week on A Star to Steer Her By, there’s no time like the past! We’re looking at time travel episodes in Star Trek, and there are so many that it’s a wonder the Department of Temporal Investigations can make time to examine them all. Unless they’re literally making time for them… hmm.
Time travel episodes prove to be some of the best conceits for their plots in Star Trek, allowing our fearless leaders to experience the past and provide commentary on it, go back and witness how small actions can have huge ramifications, or at least act as your classic fish out of water for comedic effect. It may not have felt like it as we were watching through the series in real time, but the good time travel stories largely outweigh the bad. And there are just too many of them to list them all here, so to save time (pun!), your SSHB hosts are breaking out our classic Top 5 / Bottom 5 format.
Hold on to your chronitons as we near 88mph. Check out all our many favorite time travel plots and the handful of clunkers that should have stayed in the past, and listen to our timely discussion on this week’s podcast (set your coordinates to 1:15:34 for the chatter). You’ll have the time of your life.

Top 5 Time Travel Episodes
There is just such an abundance of good time travel episodes that we didn’t end up agreeing on many. Which is great for you because it means a wider swath of episodes for us to highlight, and great for me because I get to find all these great screengrabs!
“Time Amok”: Chris Let’s start off with an episode I wouldn’t call strict time travel, but it’s just so good that it gets a pass. Instead of going forward or backward in time, the speed of time becomes variable for the different crewmembers of the Protostar and it’s just so clever and heart-wrenching you’d never think this was actually a kids’ show. Have we mentioned how much we love Prodigy?
Star Trek (2009): Caitlin Hey Trek fam, we hear you like Leonard Nimoy. Well JJ Abrams can hook you up in the first of the Kelvinverse movies. What better way to include Nimoy in a film that already has a younger, shoutier Spock in it than through employing a little time travel? Happily, this movie uses this casting fanservice better than something like Generations (see our bottoms list below…).
“Trials and Tribble-ations”: Chris When Deep Space Nine throws a party, it really throws a party. So the writers’ love note to The Original Series for its 30th anniversary comprises all the best things about Trek: a fun and funny time travel story that’s still smart and interesting and just campy enough to evoke the original “The Trouble with Tribbles.” What a fitting way to celebrate!
“Tapestry”: Jake With a little help from Q, Jean-Luc Picard gets to explore the road not taken and ends up not liking what he sees. “Tapestry” is one of those time travel stories that uses its medium to perfect effect: bringing the viewer along for the ride of a lifetime while always remaining accessible, thought-provoking, and notoriously human. Live life with no regrets!
“Visionary”: Ames We have a special (if not sadistic) appreciation for the “O’Brien must suffer” episodes. Here we get to watch O’Brien die not once, not twice, but thrice! And that’s not even the best part of this genuinely fascinating time travel motif. Think about it too hard and it loses you, but the pacing and intrigue of watching Miles trying to fix the timeline and failing keeps you swept up.
“Yesterday’s Enterprise”: Chris “Yesterday’s Enterprise” was cool even before alternate timelines got big. It’s not only a good way to see how different actions would create entirely different realities (better than the mirror universe, but that may just be me), but it’s also a great redo on the death of Tasha Yar. This is the meaningful departure her character deserved. Sorry about the whole Sela thing…
“Before and After”: Ames A couple more nerdy examples just from me. Having the temporally displaced Kes experience this story in reverse is so clever that I needed to include it on this list. You don’t get to see a lot of unusual storytelling devices pulled off this well in Star Trek, and this episode was smart enough to naturally let it unfold over time. But backwards. Unfold under time? Unfold before time?
“Relativity”: Ames I gushed about this episode probably too much on this week’s podcast episode, but I think it’s just so clever in how the story is told. Like in “Before and After,” the plot reveals itself at the proper pace without either coddling the viewer or confusing them in the moment. And credit to Seven for carrying this episode. Someone get that woman a permanent Starfleet uniform!
“Children of Time”: Caitlin, Jake Good time travel ideas will naturally force the characters to make hard, controversial decisions. In this case we see another alternate timeline that makes the DS9 crew decide which timeline they will follow: one in which their descendants populate a remote planet or one in which they make it home again. Alternate Odo saves everyone that decision… but mostly saves Kira.
“The City on the Edge of Forever”: Caitlin, Jake Another classic episode that makes the characters decide who should live and who must die is one of the very best from The Original Series. Though her intentions are the most pure and also Kirk has put his mouth on her mouth, Edith Keeler’s death is the lynchpin that allows for the progressive future that we see in Star Trek, as heartbreaking as that revelation may be.
“The Visitor”: Chris, Jake Another episode that is among the best of its franchise, if not all of Trek in general! One of our clear favorites from DS9 is also another time travel episode, using the medium to tear-inducing perfection. You try keeping from choking up watching old man Jake Sisko change time itself to bring his father back from the white void of subspace. I dare you!
First Contact: Ames, Caitlin Most (though not all, as you’ll see in a second) of the Star Trek feature films that employ time travel end up topping our favorites list, and First Contact has all the ingredients! The time travel in the movie is to an era in our own future but the world is still recognizable and the effects are historically impactful. The whole movie really takes us on a magic carpet ride!
The Voyage Home: Ames, Caitlin, Chris, Jake But the example that we all agree on is the one with the whales, which got pretty much everything right and used time travel to superb effect. Setting the movie in roughly contemporary times lends to the inherent comedy of the plot, which is balanced expertly with the adventure, action, and drama of this incredibly accessible movie. No dumbasses here, double or otherwise!

Bottom 5 Time Travel Episodes
When time travel episodes are at their worst, however, they are mostly confusing or heavily convenient. And when Star Trek fails to stick a landing, it can be a running gag (especially on this podcast) at best and permanently scarring at worst.
“Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night”: Ames I’ve got to throw some shade on this Deep Space Nine episode in which Kira goes back in time just because Dukat was making some “yo mama” jokes. It’s a really really convoluted reason to whip out the orb of time that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. And I’ll say it: shame on Sisko for foolishly letting her do this. Someone needs his emissary status revoked.
“Time’s Orphan”: Jake Speaking of convoluted episodes. The messaging is all wrong in how one should treat a person who has gone through as much trauma as Molly O’Brien in “Time’s Orphan.” While it’s heartbreaking to watch Keiko and Miles deal with their feral daughter, it’s also excruciating to see how she’s treated and how she’s ultimately to be released into the wild like an animal.
The Temporal Cold War arc: Chris We haven’t gotten to Enterprise on the podcast yet, but even I know about the fandom’s general hatred of the whole Temporal Cold War arc. The whole thing just seems like a waste of time, pun very much intended! It also gives us the future ship, the Enterprise-J, which we’ve shit on before in our starship design blog series, so that’s more points off.
Generations: Caitlin, Chris An even bigger waste of time is getting Captain Kirk into the TNG movies. In a plot so forced they had to ruin a perfectly good Excelsior-class ship design, Kirk is jammed like a square peg into the round hole of the future and then, to add insult to idiocy, barely used and then killed off! Come on people, if you’re going to introduce the Nexus, use it for more than ten minutes!
All of Picard season 2: Ames, Jake We felt very personally let down by the whole of the second season of Picard because it had so much potential. Time travel, as we saw above in our tops list, opens up so many possibilities, but the show simply squandered them. Or worse: started plot threads and didn’t bother to pay them off. Sanctuary districts, anyone? ELNOR, ANYONE?!
The Red Angel arc: Ames, Caitlin I must admit: I had trouble following most of season two of Discovery because there was just too much going on and it failed in its pacing and explanation. This mind-boggling Red Angel storyline wraps up in a sensory overload of a finale that leaves the viewer not experiencing what should be the climax of the season, but feeling lost, stupid, and exhausted.
“Time Squared”: Caitlin, Chris, Jake Not as lost, stupid, and exhausted as the second Captain Picard in “Time Squared” however! This episode is a different kind of confusion: a confusion in what the writers thought they were trying to accomplish in the first place. Why does killing Picard2 break the cycle? Why does flying into a vortex work? Why did the writers make such an interesting timeloop concept so boring?
“Time’s Arrow”: Ames, Caitlin, Chris, Jake Even Chris, who you’ll remember loved “Time’s Arrow, Part I,” can agree that “Time’s Arrow, Part II” is tedious, repetitive, and increasingly obnoxious. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it many more times: Mark Twain is the most annoying character in all of Star Trek. Without him, this might have been a better time travel episode, but alas.
“Assignment: Earth”: Ames, Caitlin, Chris, Jake But the worst time travel episode of all is also one that we all agree on and agreed was one of the worst of all of The Original Series, and that’s because it wasn’t even an episode of Star Trek. “Assignment: Earth” is a sneaky backdoor pilot that Gene sneaked past us, and even its time travel wrapper is infuriating. Why is the Enterprise even in the past? Because they simply felt like it? Talk about irresponsible!

Welcome back to the present! We hope you didn’t cause any bootstrap paradoxes or become your own grandparent along the way. Over on the podcast, our time with season 5 of Voyager is quickly running out, so make sure you’re caught up for next week’s season wrap up over on SoundCloud or wherever you listen to podcasts. What if bart and Ed had a test tube baby (like superboy, except it can age normally) Do you think their kids power would be a mix of both?
First off, I want their child to be known as Kid Dorado - that was one of the possibly ship names for them way back when and I loved it but not as a ship name, as a joint protégé/their child’s hero name. In terms of powers, I think it would be really cool if they were super fast like Bart but once they reach a certain speed they dematerialise and rematerialise wherever they choose like Ed… can you imagine the TERROR and pure chaos that would ensue when they discover the kid can teleport… like, the kids just running, trying to get faster and faster, maybe racing Bart, and suddenly just disappears like the DeLorean hitting 88mph and Bart skids to a halt like SHIT! while Ed teleports to him like WTF?! Where’s our child!?…
Cue The Adventures of KID DORADO…
I feel like that would be such a fun story to play with!!

What’s my favorite movie?
@lindszeppelin tagged me! thanks, bb! :)
If y’all noticed my previous username/current fic nom de plume, you’d be able to guess pretty easily what my fave movie of all time is:
I’ve loved Back to the Future since I was a little kid. I remember getting so hyped for BTTF II when it came out in theaters (even though I was only, like, 5) simply because I was a huge fan of the first movie. The OG film has always been close to my heart, and it’s mainly due to nostalgia at this point. Sure, I’ve seen movies that were superior both technically and storywise, but BTTF takes me right back to being a lil kid seeing the Delorean hit 88mph and zooming off on a fiery trail through the space-time continuum. Oh, and this score:
youtube
The characters are all awesome, the story is fun, Marty’s perpetual confusion is highly relatable, and the notion that the future isn’t yet written and can be changed is really empowering in a way. That’s a great lesson for a kid to learn.
And let’s be real. “You’re my density,” is the best pickup line of all time. If someone said this to me, I’d be theirs, period, point blank lmao
So, yeah. BTTF is my favorite movie. I’d like to thank Universal for not rebooting the series and beating us over the head with it. The first movie spawned a satisfying amount of content. I’m happy with that.
All righty. I’m tagging @tombwolf, @quicklikelight, @scottstiles, @sleepy-skittles, @queerlyalex, @elfysparkles88, @intthewoodsomewhere, @kimmykun, @scerek, @lozenger8, @pissoffghosts, @theboywiththepurplesocks, @poseysprostate, et al.
#back to the future#the incest subplot is cringey#but also hilarious#and 100% the reason why disney refused to make this movie lol

Oh, if I’m rereading book with infernal detectives (1991) (!rus), which fell into my hands back in 2012-13
I don't really remember the events where I got it from. I just remember that I picked it up on street, for some reason a "garbage bin" pops up in my head, but it definitely doesn't seem to be from it, right (⓿_⓿)???
Favorite color:
if roughly specified, they will be dark green, silver, ~terracotta, and purple
Its hard for me to describe in words, so I'll attach ~approximate pic for colors
i like all colors
except for bright red shades, especially when there is a lot of it or if it is an accent color..... like
that's why I usually not use bright red in the arts, even when draw Kai -- I dim red a bit
oh what is there? ah eah
Last song
well I'm hooked now on (╯▽╰ )
"Dear Wormwood" -- this is pretty related to the end arc for one of my OC now ahah
"You're the Only Thing in Your Way" -- this one for one of those AUs "that I probably donno how write"
"Lemon Demon - Modify" -- its just fun music + funny animation 🔪🔪🔪
Last movie:
Does the Lego Ninjago Movie count? when I watched it for screenshots? I just don't remember the last time I sat down and watched it just for the sake of a movie.
"Ирония судьбы, или С лёгким паром!" in new year i don't count
Sweet/spicy/savory:
I really like sweet, milk chocolate, jelly and various caramels. I also really like sweet and sour things, especially if they cause a reaction like in cartoons, but in reality. But there are few of them, so lemons and kiwis will help me (○` 3′○)
I love spicy, of course, jalapeno, chili, and other spicy peppers
not against wasabi and horseradish (although for me they mostly differ in the burn duration and resting speed)
savory doesn’t evoke special feelings, like okay, not insipid and okay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Currently working on:
A small animation like "into the game". I have the first part sketch-animatic, but it seems to me that with the second part I put too much information for timing

okay first off everybody even remotely related to michael loves jeremy. it’s in their genes. the Love Jeremy Gene. jeremy’s been an honorary member of the mell family since michael brought him home that first time in pre-school and jeremy just continued to show up regularly for the next twelve years. the injoke is that the family is just waiting for the proposal to make it official, but michael is dashing out of the room at 88mph blushing furiously whenever anybody makes that joke. his mom is a gossip so the moment she sees the crush develop when michael is fourteen, in under five minutes the entire family clan knows about it. sorry michael.
secondly, when i said in the fic that the bakunawa gene skipped a few generations, i really meant it skipped A LOT. like michael is probably the first manifested bakunawa since his great great grandmother and a very distant cousin. if i think too long about bakunawa gene science logistics im gonna explode but the point is that the family knows that they all carry the possibility for it, but it only ever manifests rarely. that being said, they stay pretty connected to the lore, just in case. the mythological creatures book is a neat hand-me-down that got passed to mrs.mell when michael started showing signs of being a manifested bakunawa as a tot.
that was a whole lot of words to basically say: the family knows about bakunawas and would definitely fucking know the implications of michael calling jeremy his moon
it’s…….incredibly romantic. michael was kinda loopy on the night he manifested but eventually he’ll remember that he said that and scream into a pillow. and if somehow his mom finds out (which will lead to everybody else finding out) theyll genuinely just ask when the wedding will be.
thankfully, most of his extended family is in the ph with only his mom and an aunt and her kids being in NJ so he doesnt get too much teasing, and extended family doesnt really meddle past teasing anyway. the only one who’d really have some Thoughts would be his mom and for her it just kinda reminds her that, well. huh. michael really really likes that kid, huh. he likes him enough that even the dragon wants to align its story with theirs. the bakunawa’s story is one of admiration and love to the point of consumption. now, with human contexts mixing in with ancient genes, it’s gained another meaning too.
the bakunawa’s story is one of longing.
so mrs.mell looks at her son and wonders if itll stay as longing or if he’ll actually do something about it
#i...erased michael's father in the bakunawa au for reasons i cant remember?? i think i just didnt wanna write dialog for him#but now i have to stay consistent hsfdfdfdf#bakunawa boy#anon#asks#sometimes i remember that the bakunawa au is just pining forever until i write the follow up fics and i scream#WHY. WHY DID I MAKE THEM PINE SO MUCH. I ROMANTICIZED LEGEND TO MAKE MICHAEL PINE EVEN M O R E

TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021: In no order OTHER than Genghis Tron 1st and The Armed 2nd
Genghis Tron - ‘Dream Weapon’ My #1 - Sounds like a painting of a beautiful landscape (on a distant planet). A truly masterful record.
The Armed - ‘Ultrapop’ My #2 - Sounds like manga does Raw Power. Oddballs masquerading as hipsters whilst recalibrating hardcore music, what's not to love?
Sugar Horse - ‘The Live Long After’ Sounds like Satan intentionally choking himself to death whilst listening to The Cure. Terrible music made by actual scum.
Hannah Lou Clarke - ‘HLC Taped2′ Sounds likes the memories of one of the most talented songwriters in the UK.
Low - ‘HEYWHAT’ Sounds like being soothed by a choir of seraphim angels serenading you at the event horizon, as inconceivable gravity rips your soul to shreds. Immaculate.
IDLES - ‘Crawler’ Sounds like the biggest curveball since Kid A. Brave, imaginative, and disgusting.
JOHN - ‘Nocturnal Manoeuvres’ Sounds like a man with a bear’s throat covering Deftones at 88mph. Triumphant and hypnotic.
Frauds - ‘Long Spoons’ Sounds like being taunted by recalcitrant street urchins in Victorian-era London. A charming and playful album with riffs as big as the moon.
Thank - ‘Thankology’ Sounds like a film depicting a panic attack inside the mind of a northern genius with Duran Duran and The Fall providing the soundtrack. ….as a box of frogs.

I've been slacking on documenting these but I figure now is as good a time as any so here goes.
I don't remember what night this was from, I think this was about a week or so ago, but I dreamed that my boyfriend and I were horseback riding through the woods, probably the imaginary forest I envisioned as the woods in Galma while writing my Narnia fanfic. I was on this horse that looked like Spirit but it was a female and she was named Appaloosa. I feel like there was perhaps some sort of tragedy or battle that ensued, something like that, because I remember extending my arm out to my horse and screaming her name as if we were being separated but that part's hazy and it's been a while so I don't totally remember.
The rest of these dreams are from this past week.
I think this one was from Tuesday or Wednesday night. It wasn't anything too special except that I was in my apartment and somehow a mouse had gotten in and was running around on the floor and I remember panicking and screaming, having no idea what the fuck to do, climbing on furniture like a scared little bitch. I was basically being incredibly pathetic and cliche about it but then again at the same time, I unfortunately can't think of anything else I'd do in such a situation.
This was Thursday night, I think. I remember walking up this dark, cement stairwell with a group of some other people, I don't exactly remember who. There was a door immediately at the top of the stairs and when we entered through it, we were in this very small and tall room the likes of which reminded me of an indoor tennis court, but only in construction. The design/decor itself was very, very different. The walls were a vivid blue with fake clouds projected onto them, and immediately upon entering we were met with a very narrow strip of fake shore made of very yellow sand (the same shade as cornmeal) backed up by an indoor tidal pool. The water of the tidal pool was roughly the same color as the walls, maybe a little lighter, and was completely opaque so that when you stepped in, you couldn't see a single thing under the surface with you. I remember wading into the water alongside the cast of what I presume was some cheap Beethoven knockoff, and as I stood there in the tidal pool staring up at the weird sky-projected walls and fake beach, there was a Golden Retriever swimming beside me. This was honestly perhaps the most comforting thing about this dream, the dog was, and I think that was the whole reason why I thought the other people were the cast of some bizarre Beethoven knockoff-- I remember hearing a man who looked like the father in the movie (and by extension, one of my uncles) utter that line from the movie "We're not really dog people." I don't know, it was really bizarre and made no sense but it didn't stop there. I was floating nearer and further to the shore at the mercy of the currents when I discovered sitting near the water in a fold-out beach chair was none other than Christopher Lloyd. He was watching us swim and such and it was during this time that I realized that as I floated, I had zero control over when and where I went and in my right hand I was holding my beloved childhood doll. I called her Baby Doll and she was a plush toy with a plastic head and painted on features-- to anyone else, she would probably be considered creepy, especially with how tattered she is after so many years of wear and tear. I still hold her very close to my heart, though, which made it all the worse when I floated back toward the shore only for Christopher Lloyd to reach out, snatch the doll from me, and twist her little head as if he planned to twist it off her body. I fought the current and scrambled my way up to him, furious, and started cursing him out I think, and said something along the lines of "Go get the Delorean so I can go back in time and stop you from doing that!" The more I think about it now, the more I realize I should've, if I didn't, say something about shoving my foot up his ass at 88mph. Not that I personally have anything against Christopher Lloyd, of course, I think he's great and I'd love to meet him someday, just the dream version of him was being a total dick and I couldn't believe he would do such a thing. Later on in the dream, there was something about Pop figures-- I was sitting in a living room, though I can't remember if it was my own or that of my house up north or that of my grandparent's old house but I was sitting on the floor going through stacks of boxes of Pop figures and I remember opening one that was the Delorean-- just the Delorean, nothing else, but it was very cartoon-y like it came out of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? or something. I already have a Pop figure Delorean that came with my Marty McFly and apparently this was just the same in the dream because I remember thinking to myself that this one I had just unboxed was absolute crap in quality compared to the other one, and then I think I said this out loud perhaps in the direction of Christopher Lloyd like maybe it was from him? I can't remember. I just know I held a lot of contempt for him in my dream and was very salty about practically everything that had happened.
It was last night's dream that had the greatest effect on me, though. It was perhaps the most vivid and unnerving out of all of them and it has had me dazed and uncomfortable for the entire day. The beginning is hazy, but I remember slowly waking up in my own bed and I think I found out through a bunch of panicked and heartbroken facebook posts that one of my cousins had died. One cousin in particular, who just recently had, like, his millionth surgery. Okay, so it wasn't nearly that much but he's had a lot of surgeries for a persistent health issue in the past few years. But anyways, I stirred awake to find a bunch of facebook posts that he had died, they were all incredibly emotional and I swear I must've had a panic attack in my dream, I could feel my heart race in my chest and my stomach churn, I couldn't believe something like that was happening. Nothing felt real and yet everything felt a little too real. I remember being on the phone with my mom, who was totally hysterical just freaking the fuck out. I think one of the worst things about this dream, though, was after I got ready in a complete haze, I remember being in a dimly lit room, very tunnel-visioned but I could tell there were medium-tone wood accents everywhere and I knew we were in a church. I was standing before an open coffin lit by candles on tall, black, spindly candleholders and in that coffin was the lifeless body of my cousin, eyes closed and hands folded on his chest like all stereotypical dead people lay. I remember feeling panicked and terrified, something was rising in my throat at the sight of it. It was the same sort of horror I felt when my grandpa died and I was there in the same room as his dead body for four hours straight, except this had a different tone of eerieness to it because unlike my grandpa who was realistically dead with eyes wide open and a mouth that refused to shut, this was polished death. This was a young man lying in a suit in a coffin looking peaceful but cold and lifeless. I hesitated before reaching in and taking his cold, dead hand and everything went dizzy. I've never touched a dead body before-- I've always been far too scared to-- so I don't know why I felt tempted to take his hand in mine for a split second but it was too much to handle. Everything was too much to handle. It was just all so bizarre and discomforting, and so insanely realistic. I remember I kept waking up to check the clock, fearing I was going to miss my alarm and oversleep, and every time I woke up, I kept reminding myself "Oh shit, right, my cousin's dead" as if reality and subconsicousness were overlapping. The minute I woke up for real, I was so freaked out about it that I scoured facebook and instagram and any other social media outlet I have family on for proof that what I dreamed was a complete lie, that my cousin wasn't really dead. I'm not even very close to him, we don't speak much but we have some similar interests and I remember playing with him at my aunt and uncle's house frequently as a little kid. Regardless of how infrequently we may speak now, though, I know that if he ever was to die, I would be heartbroken and certainly upset about it. I haven't been able to stop thinking about that nightmare all day, though. It's been haunting me, I've been in such a creeped out daze. It also didn't help that Cellar Door by Escape the Fate kept playing on my playlist today, which is already one of those songs that makes me feel very intense things when I hear it, especially the repeated line "It's so wrong." Yeah, didn't help my case here at all. I don't know, it was just all really intense and I wish it had never happened in the first place because it was quite frankly probably one of the worst dreams-- no, nightmares-- I've ever had in my entire life.

'Back to the Future' Trilogy (featuring Vanessa Taylor)
Great Scott! It's time for the Crooked Table Podcast to go Back to the Future! We don't need money, fame, or even a flux capacitor to travel through the space-time continuum to discuss this classic. In fact, while we have the Delorean all fired up at 88mph, we'll even look back at director Robert Zemeckis' entire trilogy.
Vanessa Taylor from The Geeky Waffle helps us tackle the original 1985 sci-fi comedy that introduced audiences to Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). We'll talk about why the movie is so damn perfect, explore whether it's problematic in today's day and age, and reflect on how Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale crafted such an influential trilogy.
So watch out for lightning storms because things are about to get heavy. This episode, it's all about the Back to the Future trilogy! Even if you aren't ready for this episode yet, your kids are going to love it.
SYNOPSIS
Back to the Future: In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents (Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson), and must make sure that they fall in love or he'll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.
Back to the Future Part II: In this zany sequel, time-traveling duo Marty McFly (Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (Lloyd) return from saving Marty's future son from disaster, only to discover their own time transformed. In this nightmarish version of Hill Valley, Marty's father has been murdered and Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson), Marty's nemesis, has profited. After uncovering the secret to Biff's success -- a sports almanac from the future -- Marty and the Doc embark on a quest to repair the space-time continuum.
Back to the Future Part III: In this final chapter, Marty McFly (Fox) obtains a 70-year-old message from the time-traveling Dr. Emmett Brown (Lloyd), in which he informs Marty that he has retired to a small town in the Old West. Marty then finds out that the Doc was murdered shortly after sending the letter. In order to save his friend, Marty will have to travel back in time, disentangle a lovestruck Doc from a local schoolmarm (Mary Steenburgen), and repair the DeLorean -- all while avoiding a posse of gunslingers.

Good Morning Cypress City Residents!! I know today is #turtletuesday but I have to share one of my other favorites today. Being an 80's 90's kid you can't love TMNT and not have loved Ghostbusters. Released in 1984 and a Cult and Commercial classic...well, I could bore you with the facts or just tell you my Top 10 Ghostbuster things I love in no particular order. 😁 #1. I had a Ghostbusters birthday party at both 8 and 38 years old. #2. Egon is my favorite GB, followed by Kylie from Extreme. Had a big crush on Kylie. #3. As a Christian, one of the reasons I love theology is because of Ray and Winston's conversation about Revelations 6:12...Judgement Day. #4. As of Today, I have every RE and almost every RI from the @idwpublishing series of comics. I have the full set of 88 MPH comics, and close to completing the Now Comics run of Ghostbusters. #5. 88mph is my favorite comic run of Ghostbusters due to the dark nature of the series. #6. My favorite episodes from The Real Ghostbusters series are when Egon faced the Boogyman, When Winston played baseball against the ghost and the introduction of Sam Hain. #7. "Magic" which is the song played when the ghost are released in the original movie still scares me to this day. 😳 #8. At least once a week, I somehow say the phrase. "When the light is green, the trap is clean". #9. "I've seen sh*t that will make you white!" Is one of the funniest lines from all the movies to me. #10. Both GB soundtracks are on my MP3 Playlist. 👻 Happy Ghostbusters Day!!👻 Q. #ghostbusters #ghostbustersafterlife #ghostbusters2 #winstonzeddemore #petervenkman #egonspengler #raystantz #iaintafraidofnoghost #extremeghostbusters #answerthecall #therealghostbusters #whoyougonnacall #zuul #vinzclortho #gozer #ecto #ecto1 #protonpack #staypuftmarshmallowman (at Cypress City Comics & Apparel) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP3VQp9BqPU/?utm_medium=tumblr
