(I vicoli).

Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American author and poet, often credited as the father of the short story, a pioneer of science fiction, the inventor of the detective story, and the master of the horror genre. He is best known for his poems The Raven, Annabel Lee, and Helen, the short stories The Fall of the House of Usher, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Masque of Red Death; and the detective story The Purloined Letter.
Poe was one of the most influential writers in his own time as well as generations later. Robert Mead in his Literature of the American Nation wrote that Poe's stories, poems and essays, "convey the conviction of intensity felt experience, the authority of extraordinary intelligence. That was Poe's genius" (71). One of his best themes is the difficulty of establishing a discrete limit between the living and the dead, the exploration of the border between things that one may wish to remain separate: life from death, the human from the animal, and the real from the imaginary.
Although Poe was a brilliant writer, his life was one of poverty and misery, and his short stories and poems reflect the deep sense of loss Poe experienced throughout his life. Charlotte Montagne in her book on Poe called him a giant of American literature "but his life was a disaster, a tale of unremitting misery, constant poverty and repented frustration and disappointment" (Intro). He was the first American writer to try to support his family through his writing. Unfortunately, he failed. While he may have lived in poverty, he changed American literature forever. Despite his tragic death at the age of 40, he left behind over 70 macabre stories, poems, and one novel "filled with suspense and brilliantly twisted plots." (Montagne, Intro)
Early Life
Edgar Allan Poe was born on 19 January 1809 in a boarding house near the Boston Commons in Boston, Massachusetts. Mead wrote that, from the beginning, his life seemed destined for destruction. Both of his parents were actors, not a respectable occupation at the time. His father, David Poe, Jr. (1784-1811) was a member of the Boston Thespian Group. He proved to be a major disappointment to his parents, who wanted him to become a lawyer. He and Elizabeth (Eliza) Arnold Hopkins, an expatriate English actress, met in Norfolk, Virginia, and were soon married. She was a widow. Her husband Charles Hopkins had died six months earlier. Poe's brother William Henry was born nine months later in 1807; he would die in 1831 of tuberculosis.
David and Eliza traveled the theater circuit up and down the East Coast leaving young Poe and his sister Rosalie (1810-1874) with David's parents David Sr. and Elizabeth in Baltimore. By 1811, David had abandoned his family. Never getting any respect for his acting ability, his stage career had stalled owing to his heavy drinking. He died in December of 1811 in Norfolk. Considered a talented actress by most reviewers, Eliza became ill with tuberculosis and died at the age of 24 on 8 December 1811. The young couple died within three days of each other.
Although he was only two years old, with little memory of his father, many believe Poe inherited his father's character and bad habits. Since his grandparents were financially unable to care for Poe and his little sister, Rosalie was adopted by the Richmond merchant William Mackenzie. Although never formally adopted, Poe was taken in by John Allan, a tobacco merchant and his wife Frances. Poe was given Allan as his middle name. John was said to be impulsive and quick-tempered, but Poe wanted for nothing. He was encouraged and given opportunities to indulge in his literary pursuits. He had the unique ability at a young age to memorize and recite long passages of poetry.

The isolated ski resort, La Montagne Solitaire, caters to an elite clientele. Known for its pristine slopes, luxurious spa, and breathtaking views, the resort is nestled high in the Swiss Alps. Guests arrived just before the seasons first major snowfall, excited for days of skiing and nights of decadence. But after an avalanche hits the night of the murder, communication with the outside world is cut off—there's no signal, and the rescue team is delayed for three days. Panic slowly sets in as the guests realise they are trapped with a murderer among them. The resort's staff, led by the mysterious concierge, have locked down the hotel in hopes of protecting the guests. But with tensions rising and secrets starting to surface, it’s only a matter of time before someone else gets hurt.
This is a group murder mystery verse created for independent OCs and canon muses. Tumblr + discord based. More info under the cut.
Meet our murder victim, Étienne Lacroix. A fifty-four Art Dealer and Antiquities Collector.
Étienne Lacroix is known for his impeccable taste and shady business dealings. A well-established art dealer, he has amassed a fortune brokering high-stakes deals between powerful clients in Europe and beyond. He moves in elite circles, yet his reputation is tainted by whispers of illegal trades and stolen artefacts. Despite the luxury of his life, Étienne is a man with many enemies, and the world of art is more cutthroat than most realize.
Étienne presents himself as cultured and refined, the perfect dinner guest who can speak at length about art, history, and travel. But beneath the surface, he is ruthless in business and personal affairs alike. He has a long history of broken promises and ruined reputations, and few truly mourn his death—many at the resort even consider it overdue. He’s made plenty of enemies, from jealous competitors to clients he's double-crossed.
Unbeknownst to most of the guests, Étienne had a past that was darker than mere art fraud. His dealings in stolen antiquities had connected him to dangerous circles, including criminals who would stop at nothing to recover their stolen treasures. Recently, he’d been involved in a deal that went sour, where a priceless artefact vanished—leading some to speculate whether he was hiding it or, worse, had already sold it to another bidder.
Your Character
Please submit your character sheet.
Name:
Age:
Occupation:
Faceclaim:
Short Description: Provide a brief overview of your character’s personality, and any quirks that make them stand out. Think of this as their first impression on the other guests. Are they charming, eccentric, or perhaps a little too quiet?
Secret: Every character in this story has a secret. What are they hiding from the other guests? It could be something from their past, a shady business deal, or a personal vendetta. Be creative—this will add layers to their interactions and might tie into the larger mystery.
Motive for the Murder: Why might your character have a reason to want Étienne Lacroix dead? It could be personal, professional, or even incidental, but give your character a clear reason why they might be a suspect. This is where the fun starts!
Connections to Other Guests/People: Does your character know any of the other guests at the resort? Are they friends, rivals, or complete strangers? These relationships can create interesting dynamics and give your character more to play off of. If they don’t know anyone yet, that’s fine too—they’ll make connections as the mystery unfolds.
Once accepted you will be added to the discord server. The server will act primarily as a place for updates but there will be a chance to chat ooc and there will be ic chat rooms for one-liners/dialogue.
Role Assignment and Killer Selection Once 6-8 roles have been filled, each member (myself included) will be assigned a number. I will use a random number generator to determine The Killer, who will be notified privately by me. IMPORTANT: The Killer’s identity must remain a closely guarded secret. Under no circumstances should this role be revealed, either in or out of character. Doing so will spoil the entire game (and result in removal from the group—so let’s keep things fun, yeah?).
This roleplay is meant to unfold gradually and organically. You can join as long as you're committed to contributing regularly to the story. It’s open to all fandoms, canon characters, and OCs, but inactive players will be replaced to ensure the narrative keeps moving.
Group Etiquette
OOC drama will not be tolerated and will result in immediate removal from the group—no exceptions.
Duplicate face claims won’t be allowed to avoid confusion.
The group will be relaxed but do stay engaged. This is a collaborative mystery, and silence disrupts the fun for everyone.
Plot Progression Throughout the roleplay, I will introduce plot points to guide the narrative and provide opportunities for character interactions. These events will unravel over several days of in-story time, encouraging your characters to collaborate, investigate, or accuse one another. These will include key moments like:
The Discovery of the Murder
An Avalanche that Traps the Guests
Plot point 1
Plot point 2
The Final Showdown
Expect the unexpected, and use these plot points to deepen your character’s story while piecing together clues.
Keep an eye on the group’s tag: *s(no)w escape murder mystery for updates and threads.
Let’s unravel this mystery together!
#*s(no)w escape murder mystery#( i. ooc )#haha who do i think i am#NO BUUUT BUT IT WILL BE FUN#this could be very au for your character or like a main-ish thing so#totally up to you.#also pls ask if i have forgotten anything!!

13. Opportunità: apriti a nuove possibilità e avventure.

What We Know About Mont
(last updated 8/3/24!)
Kotone Montagne, codename Mont, is a previously famous figure skater who suffered a major injury. Her Arcana is listed in the files as Glory, which seems to come from angel decks. She joins the team as a "Phantom Idol", or cognitive teammate.
Her files are named with the codenames "Frost" or rarely "Snow" instead of her canon codename Mont. The exact significance of this, if any, is unknown.
Her Japanese voice actress is Shino Shimoji.
Kotone has not appeared in the main story, but she does feature prominently in Tomoko Noge's Confidant, as they bond over being athletes who suffered injuries that prevented them from participating in their sport. She and Tomoko spend a lot of time bonding, though there's a bit of distance between them for a while, as Tomoko hesitates to ask her about the progress of her physical rehabilitation. However, Kotone eventually reveals that she already completed rehabilitation and was able to return to the rink, but she's felt too overwhelmed by outside pressure to actually ice skate again.
An official post has indicated Kotone will be a Confidant in the future, and a romance option for Wonder.
While Kotone has only appeared in Tomoko's Confidant so far, aspects of her personality are apparent. She maintains a somewhat closed-off, though superficially friendly, demeanor, and comes across as a mature person who can be social but keeps interactions to a minimum. However, she's touched by Tomoko's actions towards her, continuously going out of her way to help Kotone. This eventually leads to a friendship, although Kotone keeps a bit of a wall up as she can't admit to Tomoko the real reason why she hasn't gone back to figure skating.
While she can seem friendly but just a bit distant, she's revealed to have many typical interests that Tomoko can bond with her over, and enjoys sillier things like trying a special signature pasta dish at a restaurant with Tomoko and Wonder. She also lightly panics after having a fight with her manager, leading to her seeking out a flower shop that can give her a bouquet with a ridiculously large amount of her manager's favorite flowers within a single day. Kotone seems mature and somewhat aloof, and she is those things, but she also cares more than tends to be obvious, and has the self-awareness to realize quickly if she was the one in the wrong after an argument.
Kotone gives the impression of someone who bottles their emotions up until they overflow. She breaks down into tears outside Shibuya station when she finally admits to Tomoko that she finished physical rehab a while ago, but has a mental block preventing her from skating like she used to, even crouching down to hug her knees to her chest (possibly so she wouldn't have to face Tomoko and Wonder when she admitted it). She cites the reason for this mental block as hateful comments online about her, which she was previously able to ignore, but hit harder now; her injury seems to have made her feel more vulnerable, or perhaps more fearful of messing up again.
An official description of her also mentioned she's French-Japanese, has been figure skating since she was a child, and is a perfectionist.
Mont's Persona Terpsichore (based on the Greek muse of dance and chorus) is categorized as an Ice type, and resists Ice while being weak to Psychokinesis.
Terpsichore is a Resist Persona, meaning she’s good at targeting single enemies, and her trait gives her "ice crystals" whenever a teammate attacks, which let her inflict a followup attack at the end of her own turn. She has three ice attack skills: the first hits all enemies with a chance to cause freeze, the second hits one enemy and gives her four ice crystals, and the third hits one enemy, doing more damage the lower their health is, and doing extra damage if Mont has ten ice crystals. Her passive skills increase her chance of inflicting freeze, and give her three ice crystals when an enemy is defeated.
In combat, her melee weapon is a sabre, while her ranged weapon is a bolt action rifle. Her Highlight is shown from 2:40 - 2:53 in this video, and it hits one enemy with an ice attack that does more damage the lower the enemy's health is.
Her recommended card sets are 1) 4 of Cups (Luxury) + Knight of Swords (Focus), 2) 4 of Coins (Power) + Page of Coins (Growth).
The game recommends teaming her up with 1) Closer and Cattle, 2) Leon.

Can I ask you about your mage slayer turned sorceress oc? She’s pretty and I love magic as queer allegory tropes.
I wanna hear more about her backstory, from your tags it seems very compelling
Aaaa thank you so much! I was obsessed with BBC Merlin for a little while (still am ngl) so any story that explores magic as a queer allegory makes me happy!
I've put the long-ass backstory I sent to my DM under the cut for your reading pleasure <3
Born in Montagne (our homebrew country) to two gnome parents, Kithri was raised in the Frosthaven village for the first 8 years of her life. Her parents were relatively present - loving, if a bit young and inexperienced. Also, Kithri was born Xalin Nimblefoot, but changed her name when she went on the run.
When Kithri was 8, her village was attacked by bandits who demanded a large portion of their crops and goods. In desperation, the villagers reached out to a nearby mage, who promised them they would stop the bandits. When the bandits came again, the mage scared them off, then turned around and demanded the same goods and more from the villagers, claiming that since they were their hero, they should get their reward. Some of the villagers refused, including Kithri’s parents. The mage made an example of Kithri’s father, attacking him with fire magic, then leaving the village with the goods and promising to return later for more. Kithri’s father died of his injuries a few days later.
Desperate and riddled by grief, Kithri’s mother reached out to the Magehunter Guild (of which she had heard rumors of before). When the mage returned, the guild was waiting. Won’t go into detail, but it’s fair to say that the mage’s death was brutal and very public. Invigorated by revenge, a bunch of the villagers joined the guild, including Kithri’s mother.
For the years following, Kithri and her mother were taught mage-hunting skills - Kithri’s mother was gifted with poisons and covert assassinations, while Kithri was trained in infiltration and ranged combat (lots of sniping with the crossbow from afar). Kithri’s mother rose quickly through the ranks and became a respected member. She rarely ever spoke of Kithri’s father and as the years passed, she and Kithri grew more and more distant. Instead of facing their grief or their tense relationship, they both threw themselves into their work. Anti-magic rhetoric was obviously the standard in the guild, but with Kithri’s mother, it was so intense that Kithri couldn’t even mention good magic users without being shouted down. Nevertheless, they both built a life within the guild and worked well together on missions.
When Kithri was 23, she was sent on a solo mission - hunting down a divination mage. She worked for weeks, strategizing and studying the mage. She learned the best way to defeat the mage was to attack up close. She ambushed the mage in her study and was close to killing her, when the mage cast a shield spell and made to run. However, something about Kithri intrigued the mage and with the shield still up, the mage cast a ‘Reveal Magic’ spell (not exactly that spell, but basically one that would unlock Kithri’s powers, which had been lying dormant for years). Kithri’s magic now activated, she felt herself change suddenly. She could feel the magic in her skin, just on the edge of bursting. Enraged, confused and convinced that the mage had cursed her, Kithri got past her defenses and grappled her, demanding answers. The mage told her the truth - Kithri was a sorcerer of moderate power, but her magic needed to be unlocked first. Kithri refused to accept this and in a rage, killed the mage.
Kithri returned to the guild and attempted to hide her new powers, but she hadn’t learned control yet and within a few days, she was discovered (she cast an ice spell on instinct when she was attacked). The guild immediately turned on her, throwing her into a cell and demanding to know how long she had been hiding this. Kithri had known how radical the group was, but she was shocked by how quickly they turned on her despite knowing her for years (and practically raising her). Her mother disowned her and did nothing when the guild’s leader said she needed to be executed.
The night before her proposed execution, Kithri escaped using her new-found powers and fled to the Cline. Since then, she’s been on the run, trying to keep a low profile while she discovers more about her powers. She has since accepted that this is a natural part of her and not a curse from the mage; she uses her powers without hesitation and has shed the radical views she was trained to believe. However, she still is wary of most magic-users and gives them a wide berth.

[What does the endless traveler seek?]
Moi: Mais pourquoi tu me dis ça ?
Christina: Tu m'as demandé d'enquêter sur Carrington et Calvino. Tu ne te souviens pas ? C'était il y a quelques heures à peine.
Moi: Vraiment ?
