Testing out my new 24mm lens on the Medieval Town Square set that launched to the public this weekend.

I swapped a bunch of lenses that I wasn't using anymore for this Sigma 24mm f/3.5, which I wanted for its 1:2 macro capability and compact size.

One of the lenses I traded was the Tamron 24mm f/2.8 which is half the price and a bit brighter than this one, but that 67mm filter size was too big for LEGO photography outdoors.

It got in the way a lot especially at ground level, felt bulky in my hands, and the focus was jumpy. I couldn't enjoy the shoot so I didn't use it a lot.

The Tamron wasn't a bad lens; it just wasn't a good fit for this use case, IMHO.

Gear 100% matters. If you don't like using what you have or it's a hindrance, the wrong gear can slow your growth and hurt your photography.

Change it if it's not working for you. (And buy or trade for second hand!)

I ordered some eclipse stuff for Monday.

Got an 82mm 20-stop ND filter (and a 82-67mm step down ring so I can use it on the majority of my lenses that don't have such a large filter thread size). I also got some glasses so I don't burn my eyeballs out.

Az élet olyan, mint egy kamera előtt lévő 67mm-es szűrő: mindig ott van valami áttetsző réteg, ami eltakarja a teljes képet, eltorzítja a látványt. Hiába törekszünk a tisztaságra, mindig van valami, ami épp csak elhomályosítja, amit látni szeretnénk. És ahogy egy asztalon a terítő leplezi a foltokat, úgy rejtjük el mi is az élet tökéletlenségeit – próbálunk hibátlan képet mutatni magunkról, miközben belül törékenyek és kaotikusak vagyunk. Csak egy vékony szövet választ el minket attól, hogy a valódi valónk láthatóvá váljon, de az igazság mindig átszivárog, foltokat hagyva.

Akárcsak egy vállalatirányítási rendszer, igyekszünk minden részletet kontroll alatt tartani: kereteket szabunk, rendszereket építünk, hogy az élet valamennyire kiszámítható legyen.
