Ravenous about the fact that Super Paper Mario actually ties off the loose ends of Mario and Luigi's character dynamic in Paper Mario 64. Mario goes from leaving his brother behind out of worry to leaving his brother behind... reluctant every step of the way... because he trusts him and cares enough about Luigi to show that he trusts him. It's like poetry, it rhymes, listen-

I think it was this conversation#The ''Super Dimentio'' trauma led him to be willingly absent from the next few adventures#but this moment of understanding between him and Mario is why Luigi's so happy and casual after he emerges from the gloom#He doesn't need to fight to show he's a worthy companion or go off on some crazy adventure on his own#he doesn't need to prove himself anymore#he knows now that his brother trusts him. He knows his brother sees him as capable#and that's all he's ever wanted really

I think what particularly annoys me with the "zelda was always gameplay before story" is that... it's not true? At least I don't think it's true in the way people mean it.
Zelda games were always kind of integrating story based on the standards of the time. When game stories were in game pamphlets, Zelda's stories was in the pamphlets. ALTTP tried to tell a pretty complicated stories with the limitations of the time. OoT was actively trying to tell an epic, cinematic tale packed with ambiance and expand what 3D could offer that 2D games struggled with. Majora's Mask is deeply character-driven in many, many ways. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are both pretty concerned about their stories, down to the point that some people were bored by TP's cutscenes in particular. Skyward Sword, from what little I have played it, is very very invested in its characters and their journey (and 2D Zeldas have Link's Awakening, Minish Cap... None of them are visual novels, but they are concerned with emotional journeys, character arcs, mysteries about their own world...)
What is true is that the narrative wraps around the mechanics, and not the other way around. The mechanics drive themes, aesthetics, emotional beats and character journeys; and that's great. The world is a puzzle, and the world is delightfully absurd when it needs to be, full of heart when it calls for it, dark and oppressive when it suits the player experience.
That does not mean the games aren't invested in their stories. Even BotW has a pretty complicated story to tell about an entire world rather than one specific tale or legend --all of it at the service of the gameplay, which is exploration and mastery of your environment.
So. Yes, none of the Zelda games are million-words long visual novels that care deeply about consistency and nuance; but stories don't need consistency or deep lore to be meaningful and serve an emotional journey. Again: gameplay is story. The two cannot be so easily parsed from each other.
And Zelda as a franchise obviously care deeply about story, characters and setting (and still does right now --otherwise there wouldn't be a movie), even if it doesn't try to imitate prestige narrative-driven games, which is great and part of why I love this series so much. Doesn't mean it couldn't have done better in the past, it obviously could have, but I feel like pretending that nobody ever cared about story or character is just... false? It's a huge disservice to the devs too. Some of them obviously cared immensely.
The "gameplay above story", at least in the extent to which it is paraded today to defend TotK, mostly, is a really recent development. And I think it's one that deserves to receive some pushback.

Genuine question, does Victor actually ever compare himself to God?
Like, almost every single Victor hate post is like "this dumb idiot with a god complex is just a college dropout haha, if I made the Creature I would love and nurture it, not like loser McGodComplex over there."
But I looked it up, and the word "god" is in the book 26 times, and most of them are just exclamations.
The only time that Victor is likened to god (that is relevant, Walton does describe him as "God-like in his ruin" or something else really gay) is when the Creature claims he "should have been thy Adam, but is instead a fallen angel" or whatever he said.
So the one that sees Victor as a god is the Creature, and not Victor himself, which I think is very interesting. It's a kinda like how kids think their parents always have the answers or can fix anything.
I also wonder if the Creature thinks that Victor made him for some "divine purpose" or something. (Sorry if he already said something of the like in the book)

I'm unfortunately still easily affected by Ruki so it's better staying away. However I'm grateful to people who show their love openly to all the members cause it appears to be very much needed.
#there are some people i just will never grow balls to send anything to and i am in peace with that at this point#i am a fan of 64 dudes and I've only been able to speak out my support to probably 10 of them max#and i'm still shit when it comes to gazette's case so i can't be supportive when i myself cannot support myself#like tell them what that i care that things will be ok?#frankly i don't think my care matters nor do i believe things will get better#just the fact all the members are trying so hard to lift their spirits back up is insane to me#cause i for sure don't even want to try that yet#so when my energy is lower than what they are currently looking for i won't be sending half assed positive energy#maybe when i feel better i can genuinely send sth nice but rn anything i'd dare try would feel pretentious

Alright. I don't think that was meant to be a good thing in and out of universe. Monarch betrayed Bug Noire. The ending felt overall unsatisfying. Something happened to Lila right at the end. The London Special including someone managing to do a wish. Marinette's grown a strong sense of justice. She'd tell Adrien who Monarch was if she could. And possibly even more. If Chloe is meant to be so irredeemable, then what was the point of her showing self-loathing issues back in Maledictator? And why was Felix allowed to get away with far worse? If Marinette is supposed to be so flawed and make a mistake every episode to learn from, then why is this show enabling her stalking so much? And why doesn't that show follow that exactly? If this is meant to be such a baby's show, why is it so in-depth and serialized like a show for far older kids? I don't think we can trust a word Thomas Astruc says. TV show creators can lie and misdirect us. It's happened before with Gravity Falls. Something's up. Something's not right. And hopefully Season 6 will explain and resolve it.

I need to try and draw them again, but here's a picture of the Dark Matter trio I did about a couple years ago.
Just like with other Dark Matter, they're basically dolls that 02 brought to life. They're still a little "under cooked" though, hence the incomplete limbs and blood vessels in their eyes.
Left one is Rimuru, the one in the middle is Rimura, and the right one is Rimuro.

the last time I did that it ended up becoming my top fic and lead to me deciding that you know... actually I hate that ship just out of spite so i'm not sure how good of an idea it is
maybe if i try like femslash or something super super rare with side characters or something
#using tumblr as a diary again#like is it healthy to feel that way?#no it's probably not but knowing that hasn't made the feeling go away in the months sense i posted it lol#like multiple people have asked for more for it but I'm ngl I'm likely never touching that ship again much less the fic itself#like if i even did decide to it would probably just be Percy and Viktor meeting#the whole reason it even became the ship it did was because I couldn't figure out how to write Viktor#But i don't think that's what people mean when they say they want more of it but maybe id be less annoyed if I did add a Percy/Viktor chapt#I feel like this is what those people mean when they talk about posting art you put your all into vs a doodle#because while i spent a hell of a long time procrastinating writing it i was never like actually happy with it#I just kinda wrote and posted it because I was running out of time and wanted to be done with it#which I think is part of why I find it annoying that it has like double the kudo's of everything else but it makes sense that it does#like it's a garbage fic yeah but its the main character and a fan favorite so ofc its going to get more attention#especially in comparison to the niche nonsense I make that I like more#will I ever delete it No I'm fire believer in not deleting things I've made because ive learned in my life i always regret it so#I just have to get better at writing so I can knock it off its horse >:)#or just keep adding extra chapters to Raspberry Muffin until it surpasses it lol#they only have a difference of 64 at the moment so its not impossible#I know im going to see this again in a few years and be so confused on why it bothered me so much i just know it lol
