Fandom Problem #6142:

Unpopular opinion maybe but I think it’s totally fine to hate a ship solely because you ship one half of the pair with someone else as long as you’re not a jerk to people who do like that ship. And like, be honest with your reasons for not liking it. You don’t have to force yourself to write a dissertation on why you think that ship is problematic or abusive or whatever. Just be like “I prefer A/B over A/C because I think B is cooler” and hopefully find other people who like A/B too (or if you’re really lucky, also happen to hate A/C lol)

And while I’m here, it actually really annoys me when people are like “They have two hands!!! Polyamory!!!” and act superior to others who just prefer one of the ships. Not everyone is into polyam and that’s fine. I really just want to be able to enjoy A/B content (a rarepair compared to “it’s canon and if you say otherwise you’re ignoring subtext and homophobic!” A/C (despite A/B also being a gay ship)).

Sending this in because recently a kinda popular A/C shipper made that exact post and I’m just so annoyed, like. Dude, you don’t know what it’s like to be literally the only active person creating content for your ship! And the second A/B is finally gaining some traction you’re like, “why not both? They have two hands!” It’s so annoying.

Free Will, but Not so Free

Rolling the bitter flavours around your tongue, you sighed as the bitterness battled your growing fatigue - although the quality of tea wasn't up to par with your norm, you'd have to talk to your manager. Your complexion tightened at the thought - it would do for now - it's not like any of the customers would notice.

You took meagre sips as the conversation unrolled in front of you, much too eager for a Monday afternoon if you had any say, Isabel's eyes glinting with her typical mischievousness as she swung her pigtails around, slapping Levi's indifferent face. To which he threw his body away from her - accompanied by a grimace - prompting you to hawk out a minuscule amount of scalding liquid like a sort of gargoyle as you hurled. If his face wasn't already scrunched, it most definitely was now, dark lines encapsulating his features as he sneered at you.

Furlan's and Isabel's hollers resounded in your ears, which made you feel slightly better, knowing this was amusing, if not slightly embarrassing.

"That's absolutely disgusting." Levi looked from you to the dark liquid sprawled across the table, inching away from its surface as he ridiculed you, "Clean that up."

Someone once told me, "everyone hates a ton of gay ships, they just haven't discovered them yet". I think about that a lot.

Someone might be performative and have deep-seated anxieties about being morally pure, thus freak out when someone doesn't like their fave gay ship, calling them homophobes. But at some point, they will (no doubt about it, it's just a matter of time) stumble upon a ship they just LOATHE, which happens to be gay, and be forced to confront their nonsense, lest they're forced to label themselves as a homophobe too.

There are so many ships out there. You're going to hate a lot of them. The fact that Little Timmy over in the Hazbin Hotel fandom - Little Timmy whose media diet is severely limited to HH and maybe one or two other shows - doesn't hate any of the gay ships in it won't hold any water for their fake moral purity as soon as they start expanding their horizons.

(If they ever do; people can become damn cozy with complacency and prevent themselves from ever making changes, but that's a whole other topic.)
