Literally every single time I'm like. This girl isn't really my type I wonder why I'm so attracted to her.... she's Italian. I am attracted to butches, studs, tomboys, and then also just Italians.
#when Tinder made Tinder Passport free in 2020 it was actually hell for me bc I was insanely attracted to all the Italian lesbians#who lived 6000 miles away#i talk

1 year anniversary of when I went cross country with my grandpa. My favorite trip and would absolutely do it again if given the chance.
(It’s also the unfortunate anniversary of me getting Covid for the first time which resulted in us having to shorten our trip so the photos stop when we were around Moab on the drive back. Don’t worry my grandpa didn’t get sick, I made sure to be extra careful)
#There’s a bunch of museum pics because I dragged him to them lol#I payed for anything I wanted to do so he couldn’t really complain.#There’s better pics on my actual camera but I don’t have a way to transfer stuff from the sd card rn#road trip#I live in the south east and we drove to Seattle and back so a good ~6000 miles. Not counting the Alaska cruise.

The woman who won my race yesterday. I saw her once on each out-and-back (the second time was when I had just headed out on the second leg and she was a quarter mile from finishing), but didn't get a good look at her either time because she was flying by so fast. Just saw a blur whiz past me on the trail, caught a glimpse of a bib, realized she was leading the race, and then she was gone. The first time I saw her, I was like, oh shit, she is either gonna blow up spectacularly in the back half or blow this whole thing out of the water. It was the latter.
#also she was only running 8-minute miles like they said if the race was actually 50 miles#but it wasn't so she was running 7:20 miles#I can run one of those. on a track on a cool day#she ran 54 of them. on switchbacky trail with 6000 feet of climbing on a 85-degree day

I’m watching the movie Alone (2020) and I can’t stop thinking about how far the main character is supposed to drive. The phone said she’d reach her destination in 4 days which I’m pretty sure means 4 full days of driving with no stops. To drive from Portland, Oregon to Augusta, Maine without stops would take about 2 days. She’s driving twice that much so around 6000 miles. At the end of her first day of driving she estimates she’s driven 300 miles so if she drives that much everyday it should actually take around 20 days to reach her destination. She said she’s headed north and her mother confirmed that in their phone call. We know she’s moving from Portland but where is she moving to?? The North Pole??
#every continent except antarctica is less than 6000 miles from portland#i cant even focus on the movie because this makes no sense#i know it was meant to be four days with breaks because of other context clues but they just shouldnt have had her phone say that#it looked like apple maps which as far as i know takes traffic into account but not breaks

Hey guys, I know there are a lot of really severe tragedies in the world right now and I in no way desire to push those aside, nor do I really want to load another thing onto people's plates, but anyone here in the US needs to be aware that on March 11, 2024, an agricultural company known as NEW Cooperative spilled 265,000 gallons (1500 tons) of liquid nitrogen fertilizer into the East Nishnabotna River. This is the ecological equivalent of dropping a nuclear weapon into the river. Over a 60 mile stretch downstream of the spill its been a near total ecological wipeout for the river. So far, an estimate of 850,000 fish have been killed from this spill, and that's to say nothing for the insects, amphibians, reptiles and birds that relied on or lived in this river. It is literally filled with animal corpses. This river flows into the Missouri River and the impacts will likely continue to spread far past this 60 mile stretch. And this disaster has barely made local tv in Iowa, let alone national tv, despite the fact that 60 miles of river ecosystem were just wiped out in a way that may be impossible to recover from. And what's the punishment for this heinous act of destruction through negligence, you might ask? As it stands, its looking like a 6k fine from the DNR to the company. Not 600k. Not 60k. 6000 dollars. The maximum fine that the DNR can charge in Iowa is 10k unless they decide to take it further in court. That's why these spills are so frequent in Iowa: it's literally cheaper to eat the fines than it is to bother properly storing fertilizer. I don't know exactly what the proper course of action is here, or who needs to be contacted to enact change--I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in with that information--but at the very least, every one of us should know. Every one of us should make sure we don't forget this. And every one of us should blacklist NEW Cooperative fertilizer unilaterally.

getting incredibly tired of westerners responding to firsthand accounts shared by palestinians in gaza with the reflexive demand to see a "source"
because by source, they always mean a western news report
never mind, of course, that international journalists are banned from entering gaza; the word of the western journalist, writing in passive voice about a genocide 6000 miles away, is still deemed more 'reliable' than the firsthand accounts shared by the victims living through that same genocide
a palestinian shares a video of an IOF solider brutalizing civilians in gaza? not good enough; they still need a ''source.'' the video in question was posted by a palestinian journalist? okay cool, but does someone have a more reliable source? can we get a word in from the esteemed fact-checkers over at the new york crimes, or the iraq-has-wmds-post? we just don't want to spread misinformation...
#palestine#israel#gaza#also any handwringing about the misinfo caused by tiktok or any other social media is totally worthless without considering#the consequences - and the body count - of the lies peddled by western media about all of our so-called 'enemy states'

One of my favorite things is taking someone to the Great Lakes for the first time - or describing how you can fly over them and see only hundreds of miles of glittering blue water and no coasts at all; how they have their own Coast Guard (the only lakes to do so); that the Earth's rotation steers their currents; that they're studied using ocean models; that they have wrecked more than 6000 ships - and watch them realize that the word "lake" is misleading and that they had no idea of the size and majesty of them at all.
