My biggest character flaw is I get these huge ambitious ideas for projects with no commitment levels to match. So I maybe start them but then if it's not something I can finish in a week I almost certainly just never do

Be brief.
Ideal length for a generic work of fiction for a novice author is less than 100K.
Closer to 75K.
Ok, I'm going to go on a small rant. Fanfiction is frequently WAY LONG *in comparison to published works*. I enjoy reading long fics. And yes, I know I'm writing the longest and most epic series ever. But before I began the project I set a cap of 200K per installment. And past the first six installments (which each encompass a full year at Hogwarts), my word limit per POV installment dropped to less than 100K.
If you are writing very long fanfiction, that is awesome. I am too. Some people don't want to read that many words and we, as creators, must accept that.
BUT if you are going to write a self generated novel which you intend to offer to agents to be published, you need to practice brevity.
And if this is a skill you want to hone, you can work on it in the fanfic realm! You will probably attract more readers if you have a finished work sitting between 60-70K. And good night, this should be a relief to us authors. It is to me!

Added 2,300 words in the re-write of the opening of my (Dreamling) Hob amnesia fic - ie "Thessaly gets pissed off when Hob breaks up her and Dream and starts dating Dream himself so she curses him to lose 100 years of memory each night until they find a cure, so Dream gets a walk down memory lane with all the versions of Hob we've seen over the years."
Hopefully I can get this opening re-written I can even start thinking about posting this fic a bit sooner. I'm otherwise still writing 1489 and the years are in reverse since we're going backwards in time, so after that is just 1389 and the fic conclusion.
Knowing me the new opening re-write is also going to be pretty long but OH WELL. Right now the fic is at 40,000 words and will probably be 60-70k when done?? Then again, this is me we're talking about so who knows, it could be twice that soijodiajdoajd a

I know it’ll be a while but I am Literally rattling the bars waiting to read your book im chewing at the walls
man I'm chewing at the walls with you, I've got such tunnel vision about getting this book out right now!
so far I've:
sent 60 queries to literary agents
received 20 rejections (40 are still unknown)
entered a contest to work with an editor (unknown results)
paid two agents to review my query letter and synopsis so that I can improve my querying package
added 2,500 words to the book in the form of chapter titles so that I can meet a 70k word count and better my chances
and still ahead of me I have:
a list of 150 literary agents and indie publishers who seem promising that I have yet to query
many, many, many agencies that I have yet to look through, meaning my to-query list is going to grow
I think I may have more luck with indie publishers because the book is such a weird gay clusterfuck, but I'm trying the agents first.
indie publishers are small presses that usually choose 1-10 titles to publish a year, so they're very competitive, but they also care less about how commercial and marketable your book is, and more about whether it's interesting and artsy. and I dunno if mine is artsy, but it's certainly interesting

Fanfic asks 1, 9, 12 and 17
Thank you for asking me about these!
1 - fav fic I wrote
Another one I don't know how to answer 😭 I have too many. Luckily, a few people asked for this so I'm going to say I Will Bury You In Diamonds, but since I have your attention, I also adore:
The Wizard and his Tower - smut fic! My favorite from this is the least popular one, Thiamarz's Routine Tower Maintenance. The most popular is Ramazith's Arcanodic Connection Massage. A crack ship turned legitimate. This also kind of assured me that the stuff I want to write (gentle dom, enthusiastic consent, begging, etc) does have an audience.
9 - longest WIP
The Moth and the Wasp (title will be changed), a fic where Mol and Arabella team up to resurrect the tieflings who died in the shadow curse by stealing their trapped souls.
This fic suffers from "I love it too much"itis and keeps getting rewritten or re-edited. Also, like, I know there isn't a huge audience for it so I don't feel any pressure to finish it up.
It sits at 16,545 words in my "written" doc and an additional 7,259 words in my "ideas" doc (mostly scenes I hope to include but that aren't done yet) and several thousand more words of cut content that I decided ultimately weren't good for the story. There's also an other version that was about 30k that I completely scrapped. I've probably written about 60-70k on this fic, which just shows how little I've kept. I'm aiming for it to be about 30k words.
12 - fav character
I answered this on another so I'll copy/paste!
Arg don't make me choose. Currently it's probably Lakrissa or Salazon. They're both kind of "fail" characters, Lakrissa because she's all talk no action and happy riding Alfira's coattails, Salazon because he's the most underfunded, unlucky criminal wizard to exist. While Lakrissa is actively trying to slack off, though, Sal is trying to get some respect.
Earlier this year, definitely Pandirna, Ikaron and Guex. I loved how the three played off each other (Pandirna as a hurt but healing character, Guex as a cheerfully proactive character, and Ikaron as a stoic and overwhelmed character.) All three were principled and I loved exploring that.
And I really liked my OC, Thiamarz, who was a challenge to write but with who I got to explore some really fun smut.
17 - fic you'll continue
Where There's Smoke, a monster fucking Veilguard fic. Already got the idea for a second chapter, just need to find the time and make sure it fits in with the lore
Lifeline, my Minthara/Araj toxic yuri fic. I've written the second chapter and outlined the rest (I never outline, so this is amazing).

Word Count update on Golden Doe in a Valley of Shadow (Ao3 Azriel x Elain Fanfic)
Honestly, just a little tease. Because if you've read my work so far, you know I love a good tease 🤭
Tumblr media
And there is soooo much more to come! Just want you guys to know I am hard at work on this piece and I am estimating we'll clock in around 60-70k.
I genuinely feel incredibly emotional at the welcome I have received in this fanfic space. The SJM fandom is rough sometimes, yes, and I was honestly terrified to start posting fic. At best I thought no one would read it (I'm about to hit 1k hits which I know is small for some of the work in this fandom but beyond my wildest expectations for a week on the platform) and at worst I thought I would get harassed off the internet for my ship and have my craft of writing, which I am deeply dedicated to, attacked because of which characters I love.
You guys have been so kind with your comments and kudos, your subscriptions and bookmarks. I genuinely do not take for granted that you are reading this work, and how kind my precious Elriels have been to welcome me into this space of unbelievable writers, artists, and creatives who feel moved to express our love for these characters and share in our safe space.
You are good eggs, Elriels. ALL OF YOU.
I adore you. Truly. I will continue to serve you plot and smut, on my honor.

Monthly Update (December 2024)
Hello everyone, happy December!
Tumblr media
What did I do this month?
It was a very productive (writing) month! I wrote 24k words and finished off the demos for two projects (one that I'll refer to as "Project M" from now on, and one that I'll refer to as "Project R"!) Both will be around 24k words! Originally I planned for the full games to be around 50k words (approximately 4 hours of playtime), but given they're not even halfway done, I think that they'll end up closer to 60-70k (so around 5-6 hours!) I sent both scripts off to beta readers and received almost all the feedback I need.
My other major project for the month was VA! I received all of Nelli and Raku's lines for the last Karamu installment, and I finished reviewing them and asking for retakes! At almost 500 lines, it was my biggest VA project yet!
Near the end of the month, I started working on the visuals for Project M! I already had the character design done, so I started working on the sketch/lines for the sprites. I also did some preliminary background sketches and did some tests for the general aesthetics/color palette.
What will I do next month?
Next month, I'll be working full speed ahead on Project M! I'll be working on backgrounds, sprites, and CGs, and I'll also be revisiting my codebase. In addition, I received Takako's lines for the last Karamu part, so I'll be going through those and cleaning them. I'll also continue writing for both Project M and Project R (I'd like to get the scripts for those done in the first couple months of 2025!)
I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday season, and I'll see you again after the new year!

Oh none of them, I'm Czech and my 13 yo ass was far from being fluent in English
And even then honestly they suffered from me making things up on the spot and not planning ahead well enough, also they are written in a very cringe way and if I wrote them now they'd be way better like keep in mind I was 13-14 and didn't know how to use most of the potential in my books
It's kind of embarrassing sometimes to learn the terms for things you didn't know had names, like you see a word you don't know so you look up the meaning and suddenly you find out you had cuckold in your my little pony fanfiction 6 years ago

Omg lock thank you so much for the giorno content. Everything you write for jojos is so good and I regularly come back to read scarlet ribbons when I’m feeling starved for vento aureo writing, it’s seriously that amazing. Have you watched/read anything beyond va? If so, would you ever consider writing for parts 6 or 7? Anasui is my yan king lol and it would be so fun to see your interpretation of him
Thanks again for the food!!!
writing for giorno again was really something ,, it was nostalgic 🥺🥺 he was the first character who inspired me to put substantial effort into my writing. tbh, my stories would be rather scuffed if i hadn't undergone the jjba phase.
aaaaa knowing you go back to reread scarlet ribbons stuff makes me smile 💖💖 it's the series i go back to the most as well, actually. it's very comforting. MAN i made it like 4k words or so into the 'main route' of the scarlet ribbons story, i'm not sure when i'll pick it back up again though... maybe i should make what i have so far available ?? i'm content with the quality, it's just that the finished work would easily be around 60-70k 😭
i read all of part 6 and watched it as well!! i've only gotten into the first few chapters of part 7. i've heard it's phenomenal. regarding my thoughts on anasui,, he's one of my favorites from the part 6 cast. i love him. he's both unhinged and intelligent?? the best combination. some of the best lines from the series come from him imho. he's iconic.

rereading chapter 1 is so funny to me because its so blatant hes lying, and the GLASS
'please let me keep it, atleast until i understand why it was there in the first place'
and his jaw twitching
he KNEW he couldn't let her get that memory back
he sounded so worried though like 'nothing good will come from keeping it. nothing at all' like yes atleast youre self aware
THOUGH! i am fairly confused about when ty lee said that some parties wouldnt be pleased if they found out what she was doing, like i had assumed she was talking about zuko but now im thinking not? unless im missing something, because im pretty sure he knew about the memories, unless its azula shes talking about? working with her brother? or even taking her memories by order of azula without zuko knowing? but i doubt that one idk
ur fic is literally written better than most books ive read and its incredible, the foreshadowing and the details are so impressive to read
AHAHAH there are so many hints and references in the earlier chapters about reader’s identity that don’t really make sense until you know it!! i love adding things in like that because i want my stories to have rereadability?? like i want people to make new connections and interact w the story differently reading it the second time vs the first. i think it’s especially crucial to have things like that with an arc that’s built around a mystery (the true identity of “ursa”) — if you already know who she is, then it could very easily be a boring/frustrating arc to reread without those new things you can pick up on!!
ty lee was talking abt azula!! mostly because azula would be upset to hear that her ally was working w zuko…although ty lee doesn’t know who mc is, she’s not stupid and probably picked up on the fact that zuko’s hiding smth. she then (rightfully) assumed that if they were caught by azula they’d all be in trouble. it was meant to be misleading as it seems at first it would be zuko who’d be upset to know that ty lee is blocking reader’s chi, esp because ty lee is generally aligned with azula, so when it’s revealed that zuko is the one who ordered the memory blocking, it adds another layer of complication (which will be expanded upon once zuko and reader have their not-so-happy reunion)
but OMG thank you so much!! it means sm to me that you think so <3 i never thought that this would end up being such an involved fic (i originally estimated it to end up at about 60-70k words max) but it’s been so much fun to write and i really appreciate seeing how many people love it!!

For the fic asks:
Every….third question!
LET'S GOOOOO =D
3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year
You want me to pick ONE?? Maaaan... I think I gotta go with this scene from the Soulmate AU we're co-writing! ;)
A second later, cold fire bit into Devi’s neck. She hissed as she felt Astarion close his lips over her skin, eagerly drinking in the blood that trickled out of her veins. Her heart raced in her chest as she fought the urge to squirm. How much blood did he need from her again? How long was she supposed to let him feed off of her? She set her hands on Astarion’s cold chest, ready to push him off. She felt cold, and her limbs had started to tingle. Shit, had he already taken too much of her blood? Abruptly, she felt a pull in her chest, coupled with the sudden, sharp sense of something being wrong. Before she could move, she felt alarm that wasn’t her own, followed swiftly by protective wrath. “Ignis!”
6. least popular fic this year
Probably A Very Fine Line, which was also the only SWTOR fic I got out this year. I guess all my AO3 followers nowadays are following me for BG3 content and not SWTOR, or maybe I just didn't tag this one well! But easily the lowest hit count I've had for fics written this year.
9. longest wip of the year
The modern!AU we're working on, hands-down! We're over 70K words between the two of us and STILL early-ish in the story!
12. favorite character to write about this year
Going off canon characters only, EASILY Gale. ;) Out of all my BG3 fics (60!), he's not tagged as a main character in like... THREE of them.
The rest of the questions under the cut!
15. something you learned this year
"Found Family" is my favourite trope (which I think I knew before anyway, I just never actually said it?), and I'm a more versatile writer than I know! Some writers focus primarily on one or two genres (which makes them masters of their craft!), I tend to bounce between everything that's not horror-related. ;) Angst? Domestic fluff? Smut? I probably have a fic for that!
18. current number of wips
... A lot. >.> The Soulmate AU and the modern AU are at the top of the list, but if I pull up my Google Docs with my assorted one-shot starts...
*counts on fingers*
... 16, I think? And that's just the ones I've started writing, not the assorted prompts in my inbox that I've pasted into a doc so I remember what the prompt is, LOL.
21. most memorable comment/review
All hail @kitoanthony for almost literally making me cry with her beautiful, thoughtful comments on almost every BG3 story I post! Her first one on the second chapter/epilogue of Abduction came the day after I got dumped over Discord, and it completely MADE MY WEEK. <3
24. favorite fic you read this year
HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE.
Okay so I don't think I can find it again, but there was a Gale/Tav smutfic I found here on Tumblr that involved some professor/student roleplay (listen, I have a kink dammit) and it has lived in my head rent-free ever since I read it. I wish I could remember the author!
27. favorite fanfic author of the year
That's like asking me to pick a favourite child! D: I have loved every author I've read from this year, for all the different reasons - sometimes I want shameless smut, and sometimes I want fluff!
30. favorite fandom to read fic from this year
To nobody's surprise, BG3. ;) But a special shout-out to the DATV fic writers who are doing their damn best to get me on the Lucanis romance train! (First I need to get the damn game... which means I should probably finish DA2 and DAI first...)

Seeking Sept Beta Readers for The Spirit Well!
Hey folks! I figured I’d get the call out now and reblog this through the month for visibility.
I’m seeking September beta readers for draft 2 of The Spirit Well, the sequel to The Stray Spirit. Here are the blurb and facts:
🌿 Blurb
When a bard saved the day, he never expected an encore.
After saving their home from a magical disaster, Emry, Cal, and Aspen ascend to high society: Emry and Aspen to the musical Auric Guild, and Cal to the forefront of Council spirit research. But their new roles send them far beyond the concerts and balls they expected…and deep into a city of dying spirits.
In the allied city of Matlock, a strange blight has overtaken their spirit gardens. The trio rushes to investigate, diving headfirst into Matlock’s concert-filled social season. Between performances, Emry works to gather information from gossip, seek out a scientific friend for help…and officially propose to Cal.
But when their friend proves to be the root of their troubles and the blight begins to spread, Emry, Cal, and Aspen must race to stop his deadly research before the spirits- and their own citizens- shrivel away for good.
🌿 Book Facts
Genre: cozy fantasy romance, on the higher-stakes side of cozy
Vibes: marble floors, chandeliers, embroidered waistcoats, outdoor concerts, lush gardens behind wrought-iron fences
Comps: A River Enchanted and A Midnight Bargain
Tropes: Regency-esque courting & social season, forest spirit magic, grumpy/sunshine rivals to friends, also rivals to Kicking Rival’s Ass
TWs/CWs: pain, kissing (very low spice), casual alcohol use, caves, flooding, possession, fire, guns (no shots or injuries)
🌿 Beta Reading Facts
Beta Reading Timeline: 9/1-9/30 (1 month)
Book Length: about 60-70k words (draft IP, final count TBD)
Format: I can provide a Word doc or PDF.
What sort of feedback I’m looking for: your general thoughts and reactions as a reader. This is an early draft, so I need to make sure the plot, character arcs, and pacing work.
Do I need to have read The Stray Spirit first? Nope! Its helpful if you have, but fine if you haven’t.
🌿 If you are interested, please DM me! 🌿 If slots fill up, I’ll let you know.
Please boost if you can! Thanks so much!!
