I know several people who like LOVE seasons 5-7 (11th doctors run) and think the storylines and moffats writing are brilliant and I don't get it!!! what am I missing??? why does literally every single episode have the exact same stakes: Rory/Amy/the doctor is dead. forever. so dead. but wait!!! what if they aren't!!! why do so many of the explanations for why they're not actually dead feel so rushed like they were added at the last minute!! why does every single queer character act kind of weird and awkward about being queer!! why does the doctor casually say that women are inferior when no one's around!!! what the fuck!! hello!!!

Was ruminating on this in the wake of my parents�� 50th anniversary and all of the attendant nonsense, but my extended family is NOT close.

Mom’s family lives all over, but everyone is retired and my parents still haven’t seen anyone in years. Even pre-covid, visits were sporadic.

But my dad’s family....is basically all close by? It’s only a few hours away in two directions, and even when we Saw Them Lots, it was only once a year.

When I was a child until probably age 14 or so, I assumed this was normal. My friends at school were rich people and their families lived all over, so I thought my experiences were typical.

From ages 14 until probably 28, I assumed this was my parents DELIBERATELY withholding my extended family from me as an abuse tactic and isolating us.

After age 28 (and more every year!) I realized....they do not interact with their families much for a REASON. They are warm and cordial and call lots, but an hour phone call is not a vacation visit (or even a weekend visit! Or a day trip!) and they are, frankly, all bugnuts cuckoo bananas.

THAT is the final stage of adulthood, I guess.

Claude and Marie moved in with his grandparents, Walter and Harriet, soon after their marriage. Their house was awfully big for just the two of them, and children back in the house would be a welcome addition. Claude and Marie soon filled the old nursery with Stanley, born 1937, and Steven, born 1940.
