yarn mandala
this is my current project: It is only half done, I will post the steps too.
it's based on a kloketen creationes video:
youtube
is using Himagurumi, a 50% cotton 50% acrylic yarn by Himalaya (Turkish company), and it was created with amigurumi in mind, but they are awesome for this too. I will try crocheting something from them too, and post that as well. I just got my ordered stash last week, and I am experimenting with the colors.
Did I mention they have a great selection of colors?

started working on my summer sweater (?). like to throw on when it cools down a bit or just for a bit more modesty and i kind of hate it? but im also deeply curious to see how it turns out so i hope it's a trust the process kind of thing
#it's also 50 linen/50 cotton and i still find it hard to find the right tension#my red/purple vest is still on the needles but i dont like working with acrylic in this weather#i also thought this project would be a vneck but working with the yarn now i think a round/open neckline will be appropriate#🌬️#🧶

Desert Map. Cotton fabric, acrylic paint, inks, hand and machine stitching, 12 by 12 inches.
Finally some new work, and I even managed to frame it up! I will get back to my 23 series of weavings eventually- I intend to finish 50 of them by the end of the year- but I'm also enjoying this detour.

sorry but i vaguely remember you making a post about good quality clothing stores(?) or sth along that vein that i can't find anymore. were you the one who made the post/reblogged it or sth
i think you proooobably have the wrong person bc i like. hate most purchase-able clothes and therefore don't buy clothes much? i did find this post about where to buy fabrics in my sewing tag, but that's not quite the same thing :p
my clothing store recommendations, such as they are:
muji plaid flannel shirts are nice, or at least they WERE nice when i lived near a muji, and i got a bunch on clearance for 50% off near the tail end of winter. i've also had good luck with flannel stuff from, like, carhartt and duluth trading co and other lumberjack lesbian coded workwear brands
for (men's) jeans i usually buy from levi, sometimes the gap, 100% cotton no stretch (stretch denim wears SO fucking fast), add waist darts and hem as needed
i have one (1) pair of work pants from everlane that i also quite like (and will probably buy clones of, at some point)
linen shirts you can and should just DIY. i got a good one from uniqlo some years ago and then they stopped fucking making them before i could buy five more and i'm eternally mad about this
all sweaters i've ever seen at a clothing store that does not specialize in sweaters have been complete pieces of shit: fiber content is mostly or entirely acrylic, soft in that way where it's very obvious they'll pill instantly (this is usually due to short staple length of fibers -- you can't just go by fiber content here, this is also the fatal flaw of cheap cashmere), knit too loose to support the weight of the sleeves so they'll self-destruct with not very much wear, etc. just... just learn to knit. it's easier than finding somewhere that will sell NON-SHITTY SWEATERS. (or, if you are rich, consider dale of norway.)
it is much, much easier to buy clothes if you know how to do basic modifications to make them fit better. (or, if you are rich, you can take them to an alterations place.)

Hi! Saw a post a while back on "pointless wool blends". I'm a big fan of natural fibers, and I try in general to learn as much as possible about the different characteristics of materials. Do you know why blends with like, 10 % wool is pointless? Does the acrylic like, cut it? Does the warmth not work? Legitimately curious! <3
Hi! I'm not a materials scientist, just a knitter, seamstress, and person who gets real sweaty in polyester, but basically: You're going to be feeling the properties of the other 90%, not the 10% that's wool.
Like: Wool is warm when wet. Polyester is not. The 10% warmth you'll get from the wool is offset by the 90% chill from the polyester.
Wool is naturally self-extinguishing when exposed to flame. Polyester melts. The 10% of the fiber that will self extinguish will not matter when 90% of it is melting to your skin.
My wife (who works in performance apparel) says that she thinks (don't cite her) that the minimum amount you need to start getting the benefits of a fiber is 30%. I personally can wear stuff that's 50/50 cotton/polyester without descending into The Damp, so I don't buy anything with a lower percentage than that for my personal wardrobe.
Hope this helps!

whenever I'm crocheting something like clothing or bags I just default to 50/50 cotton acrylic blend for the yarn because like I genuinely don't really know what material would be more ideal and also this is way cheaper than 100% cotton so I feel like it's a relatively safe choice for this but idk
#i also like didn't really give that much of a fuck for the material ever but i know when acrylic isn't ideal#🐛#crochet

Oh, wow, it's (almost) June! Those of you who've hung around this blog long enough know that that means a new Knit or Crochet-Along - and the Spring Leaves Market Bag is the Featured Pattern and Knit Along for June!
The pattern is 50% off for the month of June, plus, if you finish a bag by the end of June, you have the chance to win a Gift Card from Knit Picks. (US/Canada only at the moment, sorry!) or 4 patterns of your choice from my web shop!
Other cool stuff to know:
The stitch pattern is both charted and written,
The pattern has a large-print version for folks who need it (this version also works with screen-reading tech)
It comes in one size, but it's easily adjustable.
Sample is shown in a (now discontinued) Flax/Cotton blend, but any aran-weight or heavy worsted weight cotton or cotton blend would work wonderfully - an acrylic would also work well here, too!
If you're a Patron, you can download the pattern here
You can find all the details about how to enter the Knit Along on the Pattern Page, and if you've got any questions, please, drop them on this post or in the Ask Box!
