Companion rambles: could they operate a vehicle + other random assortment of headcannons
Curie:
Knows every single part of a car. Knows every driving safety rule. Do not let her near a vehicle. Her driving style is mad-max levels of fear. She will giggle and comment about how much fun sheâs having, and how she wishes she did this sooner. Danger level: 9/10. You wonât die but youâll never look at a corvega the same.
Cait:
In trying to hotwire it, will either blow it up or will turn it on for just enough time that the alarm goes off. If she did find a functioning one, it would probably end up in a ditch. Danger level: 7/10
Deacon:
He can drive, but in the same way that a elderly person would: you donât know if he should be behind the wheel, but goddamn it if heâs not going to Tokyo drift into the last parking spot in front of the super-duper mart. Danger level: 5/10
Danse:
Why concern himself with pre-war ruins that arenât even technologically interesting? He *technically* can fly vertibirds, but alsoâŠheights get to him sometimes. If he did have a car, he would dive super safe and basically act like a midwestern dad. Do NOT try and merge without signaling in front of him. Danger level: 2/10
Mac:
Really good at taking cars apart. Only knows about driving from comics. TBH I think he would be the type to only learn how to ride a bike at 10+ years old. He canât even start the car. Danger level: 0/10
Hancock:
Would try to drive but would get either lost or just confused after about a half hour. Would probably try to add a bunch of stuff on top, like a missile launcher or a turret. It would be so decked out that it wouldnât even be functional anymore. Would take joy in doing demolition derbies with Mac. Danger level: 3/10
Piper:
She knows how a car works, but like, only from reading 4 pages of a really old manual when she was board. She claims to defunct know how they work, but has no idea what to do when she lifts the hood. Either causes an explosion or ends up breaking at least one part. Never gets it moving. 6/10
Gage:
He can probably figure it out after about a day or two of trying to compare it to a coaster. When he does start it, I think he would actually hate driving. Heâs the sole one in control, with his foot on the gas the whole time, and there is no way in hell he is ready for that. Would probably make up some excuse about how raiders donât need to use cars to make their points. 2/10
Preston:
The safest driver in the world at first, but then he starts going after bigger things. Trucks would help with transporting supplies to settlements, he argues. If we had a garrison of tanks, imagine how many people we could protect, etc. Heâs not wrong, and not bad at driving, but he really needs to stop adopting every bubble-top he comes across. 3/10
Nick:
Can drive. Will drive. Then will have to confront the reality of his muscle memory being from a person he never really was. Heâll still take a spin now and then, especially if going long distances, but he prefers to walk. Itâs moreâŠ.him. 1/10
Longfellow:
Cars, no. Boats? Hell yeah. Heâs taught just about every sailor far harbor has. But try to get him to drive on land and he will straight out refuse. Itâs not who he is. 0/10
Strong:
No. Car for throwing. Inside small, only for weak human. No need metal shell to go fast. 0/10
Dogmeat:
Sticks his head out the window. Can honk the horn. 0/10
Codsworth:
Listen, somewhere in his programming is knowing how to drive a car. Also how to assemble one from 4 cans and a high powered magnet. Can drive it either completely normal and safe or in a way that would make vin diesel scared. 7/10
X6:
Danger level: 10/10. He would succeed in the way Hancock could not. He turns it into a weapon. Stuff of nightmares. Avoid at all costs.

september 6: heat 1,974 words @rosekiller-microfic
Barty and Evan finally go on a (not) date to the fair. They're so cute I hate them.
It isn't that Barty is nervous. No, very much the opposite. He's perfectly calm and composed about this whole ordeal.
He definitely hasn't spent the last 2 hours digging through his closet, panicking over what to wear on his date with Evan.
No.
Not a date.
Very much not a date, as he's struggling to remind himself. Just Evan, his friend Evan, who asked him to go to the local fair yesterday because, "It'll be fun!" he'd told Barty. "We can go on rides and eat fried food until we throw up next to someone's screaming kid."
And who was Barty to deny him that? Not when Evan's eyes had shone so brightly at the prospect, a lovely grin plastered on his freckled face.
The thing is, Barty knows this doesn't mean to Evan what it means to him. He knows this is just another way for them to fuck around and have fun for a night, which would be fineâamazing, evenâif it weren't for the fact that Barty's practically been in love with him for the past 3 years.
Ever since they were 16 Barty's heart had raced a little faster and his cheeks flushed a little more whenever Evan got too close. It was inevitable that he fell for himâset in stone. Further and further, faster and faster each and every day.
But that's not important right now.
What is important is the harsh realization that Evan will be standing on Barty's doorstep in 5 minutes and he's just managed to get his shit together and pull on an outfit he deems acceptable.
He tries telling himself it doesn't matter what he's wearing. It's not like he'd be idiotic enough to try and impress Evan...maybe.
Maybe not.
Barty shoves on his best pair of shoes and grabs his wallet as fast as possible before wrenching open his front door to find Evan, his hand raised as if he were about to knock.
Barty's breath catches in his throat at the sight of him. Evan is wearing the forest green jumper Barty bought him for his last birthday and the dark hue brings out every strand of gold in his blonde hair. He looks fucking gorgeous.
Barty clears his throat. There's no time for this. "Beat you," he grins down at him.
"You were staring, B." Evan grins back, but his eyes hold a similar intensity that makes Barty's stomach squirm.
"Was not."
"It's okay, I know I'm pretty," he jokes.
"There was a bug in your hair."
Evan sighs. "Come on," he rolls his eyes and tugs Barty out of his flat by his shirt.
Barty doesn't miss the way Evan checks his hair in the car.
â
The fair is loud, is the first thing Barty notices when they finish paying for their tickets. There are children screaming and laughing, tired parents at their wits end, and a scatter of couples trying hard to win prizes at game booths. The lights are bright and colorful against the setting sunâit's all a lot to take in.
Barty looks over at Evan to find him grinning wildly, life and excitement clear in his wandering eyes, and decides then and there that he would do just about anything to keep that look on his face.
He nudges Evan with his shoulder. "What's first Ev?"
Evan shoots him a wicked smirk, his features sharp in the blinking lights yet soft in the glow of the sunset. He doesn't give Barty a response, just laces their fingers together and drags them towards the row of games.
Barty isn't sure what to doâisn't sure what he can do now that Evan's hand is clasped tightly around his own. Warm and steady, grounding him to the earth.
He doesn't want him to let go.
To Barty's delighted surprise, he doesn't.
Evan's hand soon becomes a comforting presence in his own, neither of them unlacing their fingers even as they try to pop balloons and play ring toss, Evan failing miserably as he attempts to utilize his non-dominant hand. They spin lucky wheels and manage to break the claw machine which earns them a dirty glare from a teenage employee who they quickly run away from, laughing loudly into the night.
At some point well after the sun has set and they'd gone on at least three ridiculously fast rides, Barty buys them a bag of cotton candy to share and Evan steers them to the ferris wheel.
"Didn't strike you for a ferris wheel kinda guy Ev," Barty muses, squeezing his hand lightly. Both their hands are getting a bit sweaty but Barty can't find it in himself to mind, he's enjoying this far too much.
Besides, if Evan wanted to let go he would've. Right?
"I dunno," Evan shrugs. "I thought it might be fun." He looks worried, Barty thinks as Evan's brows knit together, his bottom lip tugged between his teeth.
Barty nudges him with his elbow. "Hey." Evan looks up at him. "I never said it wouldn't be. Besides, I think I might actually fucking retch if we go on anything fast right now."
Evan laughs, his eyes crinkling in the corners. "I'd pay money to see that."
"Of course you would, asshole." Barty shoves a piece of cotton candy in his mouth before he can get another word out.
They board the ferris wheel in comfortable silence, their hands never parting, and it's only when they begin moving that Evan finally breaks the silence.
"I've been thinking..."
Barty turns his head to look at him, waiting for the end of his sentence that never seems to come. Evan's brows are creased again and Barty has the sudden urge to smooth out the wrinkle on his forehead.
Which, no.
He cannot do that.
"Hmm?" Barty urges, not wanting to push whatever is clearly plaguing him.
Evan huffs a soft laugh but it sounds strained, his smile tight. "Nothing, nothing. Forget it, B."
"You can't tell me to forget it, I wanna know now," Barty whines. He shifts in the small seat so his torso is facing Evan's, their knees knocking together. The ferris wheel continues to move slowly, stopping every now and then to allow the exchange of passengers.
"It's not a big deal or anything. I've justâwell I'veâbeen thinking about...us?" The last word comes out as a question but Barty has to run his sentence through his head a few times, not quite sure what to make of it.
Did he hear that correctly?
"Us?" he asks, his voice embarrassingly small in the quiet that comes from being up so high.
"I don't know, B," Evan runs a hand over his face. "Fuck how do people do this?"
Barty laughs, a little uneasily as his stomach twists itself inside out. "Do what?"
"Do..." but Evan doesn't finish his sentence. His eyes meet Barty's and he swears neither of them are breathing. They're stopped at the very top now, the stars blinking above them where they can barely be seen over man-made light. Evan's eyes are blown wide and his face is all soft shadows dancing over smooth skin, a blush creeping up the side of his neck as their entwined hands sit heavy in the silence between them.
Barty doesn't know how it happens. Really, he doesn't.
One second Barty's staring at him like a love-sick idiot and the next Evan's eyes are flicking to his mouth, so brief that Barty barely manages to register it when Evan's other hand cups his neck and smashes their lips together.
Barty's sure he releases a sound so loud and unmanly that it could be mistaken for someone's little sister. But his brain, it seems, is working infinitely slower than his body because he kisses back without hesitation, pulling Evan impossibly closer, needing him everywhere.
The heat of his mouth is tantalizing, intoxicatingâhe already can't get enough of him. All Barty can think is, why the fuck didn't I do this sooner.
It's the first time their hands have unlocked the entire evening as Evan's thread their way into Barty's hair, grappling for purchase in soft locks and tugging, earning a soft groan from Barty's throat.
Barty's roam freely over the expanse of Evan's back, pulling at the green fabric without mercy. He bites Evan's lower lip and takes the moment when he gasps to slip his tongue inside. His mouth is warm and he tastes like artificial sugar and Evan.
Evan, Evan, Evan, his brain seems to chant as their kiss grows hungrier.
Barty starts to mouth along his jaw, nipping at Evan's skin with his mind blissfully hazy. Evan has his head tilted towards the sky with his eyes closedâboth of them hold no grasp on reality. It isn't until Evan gives a particularly violent tug on Barty's hair, the latter releasing a sound not fit for PG television, that the ferris wheel starts back up and they break apart.
They're both panting heavily, cheeks flushed and lips successfully kiss swollen. They look properly debauched.
"Fuck," is all that Barty manages.
"Good fuck or bad fuck?" Evan asks, his chest heaving. They're still clinging to each other tightly, their noses mere inches away.
Barty stares at him incredulously. "A good fuck, obviously," he responds, clearly not thinking about how that sounds.
It only takes less than five seconds of them staring at each other before they're both howling with laughter, falling into each other's arms in a familiar sort of comfort. Their bodies shake with their raucous behavior, nearly causing the seat to swing with them.
Their laughter dies out soon enough and Barty's left staring into Evan's eyes much like before. Except this time his head is a whirling mess of holy shit, I just kissed Evan. Evan kissed me. We kissed. We just fucking kissed. What does thisâ
Evan leans forward to press their lips together again. It's softer this time, gentle and tentative and everything the two of them aren't. The warmth that floods through Barty's chest causes his eyelids to flutter and breath to hitch. The kiss doesn't last very long, both of them pulling back simultaneously. Barty thinks he could've let it go on forever and he wouldn't have noticed.
"I've been wanting to do that forever," Evan says softly.
"What?" Barty asks lamely.
"Shut up."
"No, really, what? Cause I've wanted to do that forever, andâfucking hell Evan why didn't you tell me?" They're at the bottom of the ferris wheel now, getting ready to make their second round. Some people shoot them weird looks at their position but Barty really couldn't give less of a fuck.
Evan rolls his eyes, "I practically just told you."
"Fair enough." Barty shrugs, one hand reaching up to brush a piece of Evan's hair from his forehead. The gesture causes the prettiest blush to heat his cheeks. He traces his hand down the side of Evan's face to rest on his cheekbone, thumbing over the smattering of freckles. Barty can't help it when the words slip out. "You're beautiful Ev."
"Didn't know you were such a sap, Crouch." Evan's voice is low, husky yet smooth as silk.
Barty scoffs. "Now it's your turn to shut up," he teases, brushing over Evan's bottom lip. Every soft touch shoots off signals of electricity straight through Barty's veins, each one more heart-stopping than before. If Barty from three hours ago thought Evan Rosier would be the death of him, Barty of the present doesn't know what to expect.
They spend the rest of the ride making small comments here and there, Evan tucked carefully into Barty's side with heat seeping through their clothes to warm the other. Eventually Barty reaches out to weave their hands together again, fingers gripping tightly in the cooling night air.
This time, he doesn't think he'll ever let go.

Ranking Universal Studios Hollywood Rides!!
I just got back from a trip to Los Angeles, and had the chance to revisit this park as well as Six Flags Magic Mountain and Disneyland. Here are my impressions of the rides at Universal Studios Hollywood. At the end I will give my overall review for the park as a whole.
Attractions I did not ride:
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (uninterested, rode in Orlando many times before)
Fast & the Furious Roller coaster (looks cool but was still under construction)
Jurassic World - The Ride (closed for refurbishment đą )
8. Kung Fu Panda Adventure
This was ok. The DreamWorks theatre is essentially just a sit down short 4D experience that plays with interesting visual effects. The animation was fun but all over the place and it was hard to for me to focus on any one thing to look at. I also don't care that much for Kung Fu Panda, so I wasn't invested in the characters or story either. It was nice to sit down for awhile, but I wouldn't wait for this attraction ever.
7. The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash
Secret Life is a very cute ride that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The riders are seen by the characters as dogs who are going to be adopted by a family. It's not particularly entertaining, and is clearly made for small children.
6. Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge
This ride could be great. It could be really fun, but it is so overwhelming, and that left me disappointed. Being one of the new attractions here, it had the longest wait time (we picked a slow day and waited an hour). I think it would benefit from being easily re-rideable to learn how the game works. You know... like a video game! But here's what I gathered in my short ride: You shoot shells at the enemy koopa karts (Roy, Wendy, Lemmy? etc.) and don't shoot your friends on Team Mario (Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, etc.) which means you have to have pay close attention to the video screens on the way in or have the foreknowledge of who these characters are in order to know what you are doing. The instructions are also just visual, with hardly any words and even less auditory verbal instruction. It's way too complicated for oversimplified instructions, but I suppose that won't matter so much if you aren't playing to get a high score. But it's clearly a game. If I had to compare it to another ride, I'd say it's most like Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin or the Toy Story Midway Mania shoot out ride, just with more modern, dysfunctional gimmicks. On the positive side, the queue was really fun, and I got my picture taken in front of the Bowser statue in his castle entrance. Besides the Simpson's Ride, this attraction had the best theming by far!
5. Studio Tour
This was the arguably the best, most unique feature of the park. You get on a tram and it takes you on a tour of the studio lot. It's interesting to see where tv shows are currently being filmed. The elements from Fast and Furious Supercharged and King Kong 360 3D (Skull Island) were also present on their rides at the Orlando park, but at least here they aren't mid standalone attractions. Seeing the sets of previous Universal sets was very cool! I especially liked seeing the Psycho house and the weather simulations. Our tour guide was excellent and full of energy. Low point would have to be the F&F Supercharged section, because the 'plot' doesn't make any sense at all. The King Kong part was very fun though!
4. Transformers: the Ride 3D
This is an exact replica of the same ride at Universal Studios Orlando. And you know what, it's still great! I'm not the biggest fan of live action Transformers, but the effects and simulated experience are just as fun as my favorite Islands of Adventure ride; Spider-Man.
It's just a shame that so many of the best rides here are also available in Orlando, and even worse, these duplicates are the best this park has to offer.
3. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
This is exactly the same as the Orlando attraction. Even the layout of Hogsmeade is the same, which, while it makes sense, was kind of freaky. I could easily imagine the doors opening to Hagrid's Motorbike adventure on my way in. Unfortunately, we aren't in Orlando and there is nothing new to see here. Overall, this ride is great fun! It's a simulation ride on a track, but has more practical effects (animatronics) than Transformers. The stand out feature of this ride, like the Mario Kart ride, is the queue! It's always a delight to go on a small tour through Hogwarts castle, provided you don't have to listen to Dumbledore cycle through the same presentation over and over again on a particularly busy day.
2. The Simpsons Ride
I think this is my second favorite simulated ride ever (behind Spider-Man). The theming is the best I have seen for just about any ride ever. Watching the Simpsons while you wait in line is literally the best queue line a person could ask for! It's very entertaining and even pays homage to the Back to the Future ride that it replaced. There aren't really any practical effects to speak of, aside from some water spray and the baby powder smell đ
. 10/10 always a good time.
1. Revenge of the Mummy
It's not really a contest here, lol. At the moment, the only other roller coaster is Flight of the Hippogriff while the Fast and Furious ride is still under construction. The theme is fantastic and just about as exciting as the Orlando version. Yeah, another duplicate ride. Unfortunately, I like the elements of the Orlando version better. Brendan Fraser is nowhere to be seen here. The queue is simplified and there is no 'fake ending'. The roller coaster elements were still very fun. My husband described it as the diet coke version. Nevertheless, still a fantastic ride! We rode it three times. đ„°
Conclusion:
Overall, I'd say this park is probably the least worthwhile visit of any of the three parks I have been to in California. It has the fewest attractions by far, and ALL of the best attractions are available to ride in Orlando, Florida too. If you have been to Universal Studios Orlando before and you are looking for new experiences, I would not recommend this park when there are so many other wonderful places you could visit instead.
Compared to other parks I have visited, however, this is a very clean and immersive park. The bathrooms are nice, There's great dining options available on the City Walk (I personally went to both the NBC Sports Grill & Brew, as well as Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., but I'm not a foodie so I'm not going to rate that.). The sheer amount of wonderful Universal merchandise is probably the best and most dangerous part of going to this park; there are so many cute and wonderful things to shop for both in the park and on City Walk. It's a very fun shopping experience!

Villainous Benophie: Part 6
Inspired by @orangepeelshortbreadcookies; BRILLIANT Villainous Viscount AU (read on AO3 here). So all creds go to her!
And while she has done a beautiful fic about Benophie in this universe, Thieves of Dusk (10% RECOMMEND A READ. Read on AO3 here). But weâve been chatting about my own ideas for Benophie. So, with her blessing hereâs the next part of my version.
Part 5 here
As always Anthony expresses no emotion when Benedict explains the peril Sophie is in but Benedict knows him enough to see the cogs in his brain tick over. But he assures Benedict that he will protect Sophie. What Benedict doesnât see is the look Antony gives him as he leaves.
For Anthony is a criminal mastermind who has created an empireâŠbut more importantly he has been running a family since he was eighteen. He knows his siblings. He has seen the gentle change in Benedict, the softening of his blows and ruthlessness. And while Anthony is concerned there's also still that wish of an 18-year-old who wanted his siblings to have a better life.
Anthony says nothing and life trips along into a comfortable rhythm. Sophie continues to teach Hycainth and Gregory while becoming fast friends with the other Bridgerton siblings. And most afternoons she will share a tea with Violet Bridgerton. Benedict sometimes attends and tries his best to push the line on covert flirting. Sophie is sure his mother knows all too well what the looks between them are.
And Benedict and Sophie continue their moonlight discussions but more often than not at the academy rather than the balcony. Benedict draws Sophie as they talk, or as she doodles and reads. They trade kisses as they trade dreams and plans for the future, the pair of the progressing along the scale of physical intimacy as slow and pleasurable as a lazy river. They also trade dreams and futures, half-formed plans about live in the country, of a cottage with a view to inspire Benedictâs paintings and green enough to let Sophieâs heart rest easy.
Benedict finds it harder and harder to find joy in the running of the clubs, the espionage and clandestine jobs. Yet he is still strung between his family and Sophie, although there are some nights when he looks upon Sophie and knows his heart only sings for her.
It is one such evening when Benedict watches Sophie who is doing some mending while she humms lullabies, the candlelight softening her features until she seems to glow. And Benedict knows. He knows he could not live in a life without her.
And so he tells her so, tells her about his love for her, how he is willing to sacrifice his life for a quiet one with Sophie. He proves it by showing the deed to a cottage that he is in the process of purchasing, the piece of paper slipped between the pages of a sketchbook. He tells of how the nearby estate has young children who in a year or so might need a governess and he has talented hands that can always spin gold from something. But he is ready. He is in love and he will not let her go, he never wishes to and he never will. All he asks is for her to take that leap of faith with him, to take his hand.
They look at one another. Lover to lover. Heart to Heart. Sophie knows the answer and this time she uses her lips to speak one word.
âYes.â
New emotions roll over Benedict that do not cloud but sweep him away as they come together in each otherâs arms. He bows to his love and desire as does she as she trusts him with the final step of intimacy and chooses to let go. Let go of her past and buy into a brighter future, a future she never imagined but one that shines bright with her Ben by her side. Her love, her husband.
The walk home takes twice the time for the pair stumble against lampposts and walls to kiss like lovesick teenagers. And at the door Benedict promises to have all the details agreed by the next week. Once done, he will tell his brother to receive his blessing but if not then they can ride to Gretna Green in the morning.
It is when Anthony and Benedict are returning from one of their clandestine trips that Benedict broaches the subject.
Anthony is thunderous, outraged. Benedict cannot leave, Benedict is far too valuable to the business, to this family. And Anthony will not let Benedict throw it all away for a girl. He can marry whatever chit he sets his cap at, but he cannot leave. Benedict fights back with words until Anthony pushes him out of the carriage and declares he shall make Sophie pack her bags. Even Benedict wasnât prepared for the blow he gives Anthony and the following scuffle is ugly and raw. Both brothers use every dirty trick and technique in their repertoire by the time the two are outside the lodgings they both limp and are stained in blood.
What they find when they arrive is far far worse. All the Bridgertons in uproar, most armed to the teeth, their mother wailing at the absence of both Sophie and Hyacinth. The eloquent ransom note declares as such but only states a ransom for Hyacinth not Sophie.
All remaining Bridgertons look between one another, all with the same look in their eye.
No one touches their property. No one touches the family.
Every crook and dealer from Covent Garden to Mayfair knows the consequences of crossing the Bridgerton family.
It is always paid in blood.

Short-Form Video Content: The Social Media Powerhouse of 2025
Short-form video has officially taken center stage in 2025.
Scroll through Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, even LinkedIn... and itâs everywhere. Quick clips. Catchy edits. Stories told in seconds. These arenât just fun distractions anymore, theyâre how brands stay in the game.If you want attention online, short-form video isnât a ânice to have.â Itâs a must.
What is a short-form video?
Those snappy little videos usually take a minute to three that grab your attention even if you are engaged in the most important tasks.
They get to the point fast. They make you feel something. And before you even realize it... Youâve watched five more.
Why is Short-Form Video So Popular?
Because weâre all short on time, and even shorter on patience. Short-form videos give us entertainment, information, and connection, without asking for much in return.

Multipass Ranking: Magic Kingdom
The last of these and probably the longest because Magic Kingdom has the most rides and attractions in general, and obviously as a result, also has the most multipasses.
1.) Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - Out of all the roller coasters I've been on, I'd probably say this is like the perfect "middle ground" in terms of intensity? Even when I factor in stuff like Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, and Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, I think Big Thunder is a good middle ground for most people? It's pretty fast, but nowhere near as fast as TRON or Cosmic Rewind, and I honestly don't think I ever notice the actual "drops" all that much? My stomach does "jump" a bit during the ride, but it's actually at the points where the track moves up, rather than when it drops down.
2.) Haunted Mansion - There really is a reason this is considered a classic Disney ride. As someone who usually hates Haunted House rides at places like carnivals, I was a little nervous the first time I went on this attraction, but it's just the right mix of "scary" and fun, and even at the beginning, where it's leaning more into the scary aspect, it's more of a fun "spooky" vibe, because it's more from ambiance and just the general setting than the usual jumpscare-based scares of most haunted house rides. I feel like the only part that really gives that feeling is during the preshow, when you have the loud sound of the thunder combined with the crash of the body above you, but that's over quick.
3.) Pirates of the Caribbean - I do really enjoy this ride, with it having just the right amount of "spooky" factor and thrill for me to feel like I can kind of go on it whenever (whereas with rollercoasters, even ones I can handle, I need to sort of mentally and physically prepare myself a little more). I will admit the drop that brings you into the main part of the ride does always get my stomach jumping a little more that I usually expect, because while it's a small drop and not very steep, the fact that it's in the dark and you can't fully brace/prepare for it makes it effect me more.
4.) The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - This one is really up so high in part because I am a major Winnie the Pooh fan, and because it's just the definition of charming. It's a simple little dark ride that takes you through the story, has some cute visuals and animatronics, and even a fun little section where the track makes your vehicle "bounce" a little, which adds a bit to it.
5.) Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - This isn't really a ride so much as it's a game, and like Toy Story Mania, how much you'll enjoy it might depend on how much you care about your score? I will say I wish they'd take some inspiration from other games/rides like it and both make it so you could just hold the trigger down instead of needing to squeeze it all the time, as well as make it easier for you to tell when you've hit the target. Also, this is actually a situation where you can actually want the ride to stop briefly depending on where you are, because that can make it easier for you to just spam a target for easy points.
6.) Mickey's Philarmagic - This might be my favorite "filler" attraction as Molly from Mammoth Club calls them. It's basically just a showcase of snippets of songs from a few Disney movies (and Coco from Pixar)with some honestly pretty decent CGI animation and a few 4D effects like scents and water spraying at you. It's a pretty short show, but I think that's what makes it a good filler - it's something that you don't have to wait a long time for (the wait time is basically never longer than 15 minutes) and doesn't take up a lot of time in the day. Combine that with it all being indoors and I'd call it the perfect thing to do between lightning lanes or to just have a bit of rest time in the park.
7.) Mad Tea Party - How much you enjoy this ride really is going to be based on if you like spinning or not. Because I feel like if you don't like spinning to the point where you're going to be at least a little disoriented, you're not really going to be having the most fun on this ride. But I really like spinning, so I really like this ride. Plus, it's usually a walk on so it's got the bonus of basically never having much of a wait at all.
8.) Peter Pan's Flight - I like this ride and it gets points for being kind of unique among the dark rides because the boats "fly"....but it's only really something I'd consider worth going on if you can get on when it's under 30 minutes, which is honestly only really likely to happen if you either do early park admission as a resort guest, or you go during one of the Halloween or Christmas party days, whether you have an event ticket or not. Any other time, it usually has a very long wait and I will be blunt, I don't think it's worth it.
9.) Jungle Cruise - It's not worth a long wait, but if you don't like coasters or water rides/drops, it's actually a pretty decent choice for your tier one lightning lane for Magic Kingdom. You do have to like puns to at least some degree to enjoy it, but the fact that the jokes do seem to be made up by the skippers does mean it has some re-ride value in the sense that you might hear some different jokes?
10.) The Barnstormer - There's really nothing amazing about this ride - it's just a really simple family/kid's coaster. It's over in a little over a minute, has no real big drops and goes decently fast for what it is, but it's obviously more for parents to take their young kids on to give them a taste of a ride that actually has elements of a real thrill ride before taking them on the slightly bigger coasters like Mine Train. But it's fun and usually doesn't have a long wait or is easy to get a lightning lane for.
11.) Dumbo the Flying Elephant - I know this is considered a classic and I definitely would say to go on it at least once each time you go to Disney World, but I also have to say I'm glad it almost never has much of a line at all. Even with the whole thing of having an indoor waiting area, this ride is not really worth a wait at all. It's only about 90 seconds long and there's no sort of...incentive to move the elephant up and down during the ride like you get in some other "spinner" rides, so in most cases, you're just going to go all the way up and stay there. And the view's not even that great.
12.) Magic Carpets of Aladdin - This and Dumbo would honestly be a tie if Dumbo didn't get a point for having two "sets" so more people can ride at once, and Aladdin didn't lose a point for having an aspect that in theory would make it more interesting, but you can't access if you ride alone. Because you can supposedly tilt the carpets, but only if you sit in the back (or can reach behind you but I've never been able to do it) and if you sit in back, you can't control the height so you basically lose the most fun part of a ride like this.
13.) It's a Small World - This one is honestly only really at the bottom because of the ride vehicles being very uncomfortable to me. The actual attraction is fine, maybe slightly irritating with the song, but it's not that long overall so it's fine. But the boats are very small and the seats are low, so if you have longer legs, you're going to be crunched up. Which isn't exactly fun for the length of the ride, or right after or before you're going to be doing a lot of walking around the park.
Now, for the N/A list
1.) Space Mountain - I honestly don't know why I haven't been on this coaster yet, since it's apparently one even my parents have enjoyed, and neither of them are big thrill ride people. I've ever watched videos of the roaster with the lights on so I'd know there weren't any huge drops, and there aren't. But similar to Slinky Dog Dash, when I was going to ride last time we went, I wasn't feeling well and considering I've head Space Mountain is a rough ride....But I am determined to go on it at least once next time we go.
2.) Tomorrow Land Speedway - I only haven't been on this one for sensory reasons. I'm kind of sensitive to smells, and I heard this ride smells strongly of gasoline, which is not a scent I particularly love and would not want to smell it for the entire length of the ride.
3.) Monsters Inc Laugh Floor - Technically I have done this, but it was during the Halloween Event which I think works differently than the attraction during regular hours? During the Event you could just go in, watch for a bit, and leave when you wanted, whereas with the actual attraction, I assume it is like a regular show, where you have to stay the whole time? And I feel like I'd be too nervous about potentially being picked to be comfortable watching it.
4.) Tiana's Bayou Adventure - I don't enjoy getting wet and I hate big drops and this ride contains both aspects so I doubt I'll ever have any desire to go on it. I am happy Princess and the Frog has a ride, but I really wish they'd done something more like just a regular dark ride or something similar. But guess they also needed/wanted to retheme Splash Mountain for a number of reasons, and this was just killing two birds with one stone.

Oh, Tokyo Disneyland. How magical you were!
Aside from me feeling crummy starting day one, I still did my best to soak up all the fun I could. While there are many different ways to enjoy Disney, we decided to do three days--1st day: Disneyland; 2nd day: Disney Sea; 3rd Day: Disneyland.
We have been to both Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida so we are no strangers to the amount of people. Crowds are inevitable. For some reason, though, I felt the crowds in Tokyo Disney were astronomically larger than the other Disney parks we visited in the States. Especially when we were outside the parks and restaurants.

To help make our experience a more efficient one, we utilized the Disneyland app to take full advantage of mobile food ordering, rides and even a chance to venture Fantasy Springs. (Full disclaimer: Trevor was the planner on this trip. Which I LOVED because I didn't have to worry about navigating the app or picking rides or getting overwhelmed by it all. I can't go on without mentioning he's the type A person that helped us have all the fun!)
Here's a list of my top 10 favorite things from Tokyo Disney:
Cinderella's Castle

The Cinderella Castle is nostalgic for a 90s kid like me. At every Disney park I've been to, I'm always struck by the beauty of the castle. They are beautiful and a depiction of childlike wonder and imagination. It's iconic.
2. The Popcorn Carts and Buckets

Popcorn carts and buckets are very unique to Tokyo Disney so we dove right into it!
We were big fans of the caramel and milk chocolate popcorn in particular, but they had some other interesting flavors we weren't brave enough to try this time. Flavors like curry, soy sauce and butter, garlic shrimp and black pepper popcorn were too adventurous for us to want to try this go round. We were able to get the strawberry napoleon, milk tea, and honey, too. They were pretty tasty as well!
It's strange, right? A popcorn bucket? Why?
I didn't get the hype either. Until your mind just says: "how can we not get a popcorn bucket?" So we got two. I got the Tokyo Disney Resort one. Teddy and Trevor picked a Monsters Inc one that was very cute! (Forgot to get a picture.)
3. The Disney Harmony in Color Parade

This parade was absolutely delightful! Stopping to watch the parade was a last minute decision for me. We were walking past people sitting on the street and when I heard the parade would start in only 30 minutes, I had to sit down and see it. I mean what an ideal spot am I right?! Look at the castle!
There were several times I found myself looking at my kids and saw them waving and smiling at the characters. It just warmed my heart.
4. Sitting Next To My Kids on Rides

I rode next to my kids on most of the rides, naturally. It was so sweet to see their faces light up when we would go really fast or on a ride that felt like you could touch the sky.
Our daughter got to experience a lot of rides for the first time, but an iconic one was the tea cups. Our son was bound to spin us until he got us sick, but luckily we put an end to that before it was too late...
5. Disney at Night

I loved seeing the park light up at night. It came to life in a way that brought me so much joy. Especially on Main Street when all the shops are lit up and you get sucked into the stores. You're not looking down, you're looking up and out.
6. Disney Sea

While Disneyland has the classics, Disney Sea had the beauty. I couldn't believe all the different architecture, colors, designs and details. I could have just walked around and taken pictures all day long to capture all the intentionally gorgeous sights.
7. The Food

We had curry from Pan Galactic Pizza Port, egg & chicken mickey buns in Toon Town, and a beef & coriander bread from Fantasy Springs. Much like Japanese food, the flavor profiles and textures take some getting used to, but there was something for everyone to enjoy.
And can we just acknowledge the Mickey shaped egg yolk? How did they even do that?
8. The Jungle Cruise Ride

The Jungle Cruise ride was an absolute blast. I've ridden it before in the other parks, but our "cruise director" was hilarious! Even if he was only speaking Japanese, his mannerisms and animation just made you want to laugh.
9. The Beauty and the Beast Ride

The Beauty and the Beast ride was one of my favorite rides there. It was an absolutely beautiful experience and we did it twice. There's even a Beauty and the Beast popcorn bucket! I aaaaaalmost got it. Maybe next time...
10. The Sky Full of Colors Show

Last, but not least, the Sky Full of Colors lights and fireworks show! We watched it on the last night we were there. It was the cherry on top of the whole trip. It consisted of showcasing classic Disney movies from our childhood mixed with more recent movies. I think it was a beautiful mash up and overall depiction of the old and new coming together. It's an experience that Trevor and I get to enjoy with the kids in a meaningful way.
And while there is so much more I could share with you, this seems like a pretty good list. We covered A LOT of ground when we were there. One thing we will do differently next time is to add on another day. Trevor goes hard at Disney which means we get to ride a ton of rides and make the most of our time. I think one more day would have been nice to have so it didn't feel like such a marathon to me. Now that we've been, I don't think it will feel like so much next time. Hopefully...
The kids did their best to keep going as long as they could which was all we could ask from them. They were excited and that made us more excited.
We are already planning our next trip to Tokyo!
Til next time wanderers,
xoxo

Ranking Universal Studios Hollywood Rides!!
Just spent a beautiful day at the park yesterday, so I thought I'd give my impressions. At the end I will give my overall review for the park as a whole.
On the positive side, the queue was really fun, and I got my picture taken in front of the Boswer statue in his castle entrance.

We rode it three times. đ„°

its strange here this time of year. because the weather never changes.it is always summer here. so it doesnt feel like the same desperate love of these three pages on the calendar. or at least not what i am used to.patrick and i wrote a song yesterday. not a hit single or maybe anything that would even turn your head.noone knows how it goes.sometimes the worst wishes are the ones that come true.yellow and white lines to the coast.you can learn to love anything if its around enough.some people learn to love their mistakes.shakes hands. Stick around long enough and everyone becomes parody of themselvesÂ
you dont hate me, you hate the part of you that is like me. i cant sit here and ride my flaws until the end because the truth is i live the charmed life because of you and them. we are a gang. maybe its time to disband. im not sure i am thinking clearly but i just want you to know that i waited on you guys calls all night- they never came. i just wanted to say i miss you or im sorry or you know something that would have meant something to you. i would have made it poetic and memorable or at least something you could laugh at while drifting off to sleep. always trying to relive the glory days.
i dont care how poorly these sentences were constructed or how in the light of day i will wish i had not written them- right now i can only curse the fucking light off of this stupid western city because it wont ever get dark enough for sleep but otherwise how could you guide your way back here?
my head always feels warm right before i pass out, i always worry that there is something wrong and i wont wake up or you know i will. promise me that you wont take anything i ever say too seriously.

i said i want to be rebuilt like a frank lloyd wright only without all of the water damage. or painted over like a monet only less blurry. she said âno, youre something differentâ. like what? âsomething betterâ. it gave me the rush of warm blood like you see in cartoon dogs right before their eyes pop out and all of the bells go off. my head is spinning like a car off of an icy guardrail. show me what you are made of. your eyes were always rolling but youd tilt your head so they were somehow always still stuck on me (have your cake and eat it too). i feel safe but not like a bet more like the way mothers feel when the lock the car doors in bad neighborhoods. i am blue waves across the red rootlike veins in the bodies drawn flat in medical books. i wonder at the way that someone can write thousands and thousands of pages about my insides. when i met you i gave you a name- not your own- but in my head so i wouldnt ever mix you up with anyone so ordinary- i cant tell you- but to me it meant salvation. you only wanted reaction. but i cant be bothered. not anymore. ill see you in the spring. first pew on the left. wear your white veil and dont forget the words. warped tour. sun drenched days. bestfriends. new roads. so long salvation. dont worry your pretty little heads. i am sleeping safe tonight.

âthe fraternal order of the handsome boyâ
ive been watching you from afar
my breath on the inside window as you walk in from the car
candy caned lies in red and white against clashing patterns bending in and out of understanding.
"youre the stranger ive been dreaming of", stranger than any ive ever known.
love through a telescopic lens. when the air is clear i can see how perfect you are for me.
late at night when the city sleeps i cast a spell on you
to make you think of me the very same way i think of you.
i only love how the words feel in my head when i write them.
fireworks over the valley. how can i tell you i gut people for a living.
that everything you say is likely to end up as evidence when i rewrite history.
over and over again.
how everything you do reminds me of something else, someone else.
how im humble and arrogant at the same time,
chased and never caught.
that i just want to stay up late and wake up early to talk to you.
that i want to show you all of my jealousy and insecurity and have you not care.
youre like a light switch and i just want to turn you on and watch them all shrink away.
the words come out of my fingertips on impulse. it is instinct. my head cant keep up.
i envy the comatose. i admire the bedridden.
i am addicted to the way i feel when i think of you.

i wish i was the exact opposite of how the world knows me.

you spend every waking moment and many sleeping ones thinking of one heart, one person. you let it slip, they let it slip. who knows where it all begins or ends. but as it falls to pieces you keep grabbing them and collecting them less like for a museum of things that used to matter and more like you are going to keep putting it back together. except there are akways a few pieces missing each time. deep breaths. slow your heart beat. the road winds. there was a time before you always felt like this. try to remember pete. you are being pulled in every direction. everything is bigger under the microscope. you want it to be simple. you make it complicated. "hey, pete- i am middle ground. how come we've never met before". sometimes i wish i could re-engineer the path from my heart to the tip of my tongue and let my head have a shot at it. i dont got bigdreams, i just want to be okay. it comes down to my word versus your word versus the worlds word and i dont think i want to anymore. im worn out. my head is full, my eyes are empty. the dog loves the salt in the corners of my eyes and on my cheeks- i am nervous about cutting it from his diet. and i could and should be, and jealous of it, from the children on the street walking hand in hand with their mothers to the homeless man content with his world of a bench. and noone knows the way i spend my nights counting the individuals grains in the tiles in the bathroom, the coolness of the floor the only comfort- or if anyone does they dont want to ehar it, i cant blame you... i dont even want to hear it anymore. in the mornings the world is blurry. it comes in and out of focus. this is when im the worst. when i awake from a dream to realize that none of it was real possibly ever.one of the things stranger than realizing you are alone in this world is realizing that you are not.pupils the size of baby worlds.every bad decision is put on file for later viewing. mapquest your way back to me, take a turn for the worse and then continue for .5 miles.i want to file a restraining order against myself.and i want to be myself again looking at my reflection in your eyes from the first time i failed you. i am nostalgic for disaster. i want it back.he sleeps sound. he has no care for what buzzes and changes in the world around him.because of this i envy him.run away from a city because of one single heartbeat. it doesnt make sense.its not that i dont trust you, actually it is. and i dont trust myself when i think of you. i sell myself out.i wish you were awake right now. i just want to let myself be happy.posted by xo @ 3:53 AM

In a world drowning in noise, making a real connection is the golden ticket. Marketingâs about more than selling stuff; itâs about building a vibe. **6. Fanning the Flames of Creativity**
Marketing ainât just business; itâs an art form. Itâs the canvas where businesses paint their vision. It pushes you to think differently, to create something that stands out in a sea of sameness. Itâs what keeps industries innovating and moving forward.
**7. Crunching the Numbers, Seeing the Results**
But yo, it ainât all vibes and creativity. Marketingâs got its pragmatic side too. Itâs about measuring what works, tracking the impact, and making sure youâre getting bang for your buck. Data and analytics? Theyâre the DJâs turntables, spinning out the beats that keep the party going.

Were it not for Nintendo's monumentally successful Mario Kart franchise, there's a good chance that F-Zero could have become the go-to racing franchise on not just Nintendo platforms, but everywhere. It really is that good, you know.
Trading bananas and shells for pure speed and boost abilities, F-Zero â which predated Mario's karting debut by 21 months â is a much more demanding racer than Mario Kart has ever claimed to be. As such, its widespread appeal has been a tad more limited, with Nintendo struggling to find a place for the series since the GBA's Japan-only F-Zero Climax in 2004.
Thankfully, F-Zero fans have been treated to a brand new (sort of) entry in 2023 with F-Zero 99, a battle-royale spin on the original SNES title that we're hoping serves as a test bed for future installments. After all, fans have been extremely vocal about their desires for a new F-Zero, so we've got our fingers crossed that this just might be the start of something beautiful.
As such, we thought it was about time we collated all mainline F-Zero games and found out which one is the very best, as voted by you. We've got our opinions, but this isn't about us!
We've chosen to omit two entries here, namely the 64DD 'Expansion Kit' for F-Zero X, since, well... it's an expansion for an existing title that requires the N64 game to function, along with F-Zero AX, an arcade variant of F-Zero GX (which is actually present and playable â if you've got an Action Replay â on the little GameCube disc).
Of course, you still have the power here to determine the rankings in real time. Simply make sure you're signed into your Nintendo Life account, click the 'star' icon next to each game, and give it a score from 1 to 10. If you've rated any of these games previously, thank you!
7. F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (GBA)

As a strictly single-player experience, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity still holds up today as a result of its smooth, skill-based gameplay. There may only be four cups in which to compete, but the varied difficulty and surprisingly steep learning curve when it comes to mastering the vehicles and tracks make this a game you want to keep coming back to. However, aside from the relatively limited practice and time attack modes, thatâs all there is. It doesnât necessarily offer as much in terms of value for money but, if youâre really keen on the series or donât care about multiplayer, this is an enjoyable dose of the franchise that also highlights what the last Game Boy could really do.
6. F-Zero Climax (GBA)
F-Zero Climax is unfortunately only officially available to GBA owners in Japan, which is a shame because it's a more-than-solid third effort for the franchise on Nintendo's humble li'l Boy. It might have felt like a mere expansion to GP Legend to some folks, but it demonstrated beautifully developer Suzak's prowess when it comes to handheld racers. Here's hoping it makes its way over to the West in some capacity; more people need to experience F-Zero Climax.
5. F-Zero (SNES)

F-Zero was an incredible template on which its sublime successors were modelled, and for that we shall forever be thankful. That's not to say the original isn't a gem in its own right; it's a racing classic that feels fast and tight to this day, but its lack of multiplayer tends to put it behind its sequels, at least in our minds (a criticism that F-Zero 99 addresses). Still, this remains a thrilling 16-bit ride, and we're more than happy to fire it up again â via Nintendo Switch Online if we don't happen to have our SNES hooked up â whenever the notion takes us.
4. F-Zero GP Legend (GBA)
If the story missions in F-Zero: GP Legend become too gruelling, there's always the option of tackling Grand Prix mode across a variety of difficulty tiers, which helps scale up the challenge as your skills improve. Before long you will be snaking your way around eye-watering turns and hazards in an unblinking state, where your muscle memory kicks in and nothing can break your concentration. That is the true F-Zero experience. That the format endures is testament to the series' gripping, yet savage design. With hours of content and challenge, GP Legend is a stellar handheld F-Zero experience.
3. F-Zero 99 (Switch eShop)

Despite its relatively unchanged look compared to the 16-bit original, F-Zero 99 is unexpectedly refreshing. Though it may not be the return for the franchise that fans hoped for, it's a triumphant and welcome look back at Captain Falcon's first game with a clever twist. F-Zero is simply suited for the -99 style structure in ways that Tetris, Mario, and Pac-Man aren't; it was already an elimination-style battle royale, just a small one. Adding more players doesn't just feel perfect for F-Zero, it feels natural.
This isn't the definitive way to play F-Zero, but it is a brilliant take that supplements what worked so well in the original with thoughtful additions that make chasing victory utterly addictive.
2. F-Zero X (N64)

Forum wars continue to wage over whether F-Zero X or its successor on GameCube is the superior white-knuckle futuristic racer. Both are essential, of course. The 64-bit entry is metal: pure, simple, guitar-screeching, all-out metal. EAD stripped back extraneous detail to achieve the smoothest, most blistering and nail-bitingly precise racing experience. At this speed, on these dizzying tracks, even the tiniest prod on the spindly analogue stick matters, and the original N64 pad offers peak precision for micro adjustments which make the difference between gracefully sweeping through a corner with nary a pixel to spare⊠or catching said corner and ricocheting between barriers to an explosive, humiliating retirement.
How much more metal could this get? None. None more metal. Flaming skulls and chromed motorcycles would actually reduce the metal content of this game.
1. F-Zero GX (GCN)

While debate forever rages as to whether the N64 entry or its Sega-developed GameCube sequel is better, we can all agree that both games are rather special in their own right. F-Zero GX's story mode helps paint a picture of the 'F-universe' and those cutscenes featuring Captain Falcon and the gang sure add some pizzazz. The series also certainly never looked better than on GameCube. The breakneck speed and brutal difficulty might put some people off, but racing doesn't get much purer than this, and seeing as this was the last full-blown retail entry from the franchise to come to a home console, this is still arguably the hottest take on F-Zero going. Track it down.
So that's about it; the running order of the F-Zero series. Surprised by the podium? Remember, the ranking above is subject to change according to each game's User Ratings on the site, so if you're not happy with one of your favourites being in the bottom half, have your say by giving it a personal score out of 10 and watch to see if/how that influences the table.

Seek, And Ye Shall Find - Harry Potter

bravery.
âThatâs your bed?â Malfoyâ Dracoâ asks, looking around the Gryffindor dormitory.
âYeah,â he responds, and watches as Draco beelines to flop on the empty bed beside it. âThatâs your bed?â
âSeems like it.â He points up at the plaque on the upper panel in the front. âRoom 2, bed 4. They gave me the assignment, I just never showed up to find it.â
âPeople have been talking about it for months, and Iâve finally cracked the case,â Harry says. âBloody hell, Iâve been wondering all year why McGonagall hasnât just magicked it away when nobody uses it. That explains quite a bit.â
Draco chuckles. âIronic, too. It's right next to yours.â
Harry grins. âRon won't be very happy. He's in the other bed next to yours.â
âWeasley will live,â Draco says. âMe, maybe not, once he finds out.â
âOh, Iâm not worried,â Harry teases. âYouâre very stubborn about not dying.â
âAnd youâre very stubborn about dying.â
âSuppose we both have a bit of Gryffindor in us, then,â he says, and for the first time, Draco doesnât disagree.
â
Near midnight, they head out to the Quidditch pitch riding each otherâs brooms. Draco insisted on trying Harryâs Firebolt again, then added that he wants to see if Harryâs just as skilled without it, so of course he handed it over and now he mounts Dracoâs Nimbus 2001 on the field. It feels just like his old Nimbus 2000, only smoother and more responsive, and heâs surprised at how much quicker it accelerates. Not Firebolt impressive, but impressive nonetheless.
This time, they agree on basic rules for their not-really-Quidditch game. Contact is fine but no magic, bounds are the school grounds, and the winner will be determined as whoever has the Golden Snitch when the fireworks start going off at midnight. Harry asks if theyâre just playing Capture the Flag. Draco looks at him like heâs crazy. Harry mumbles something along the lines of ânever mind, itâs a Muggle thingââ and the game kicks off.
â
Exhilarated, Harry races along the side of the castle with the Snitch in hand. Riding with one hand is difficult when the other clutches a struggling Snitch but Draco is on his tail and catching up fast. Plus, the fireworks are going to go off any minute and he wants a good view.
He glances behind him, once, twice, and when Draco reaches out to grab his broom he cuts sharply up the wall at an angle so Draco misses just barely. Draco is faster but Harry is more nimble and he adjusts his flying style to reflect that. This is why Draco flew the way he did for their previous matchâ it wasnât just fancy moves for show, it was to throw him off. Draco knew the Firebolt had a speed advantage. Having an opponent who can challenge him like that regardless of what broom he rides is refreshing.
They soar above the castle now and dodge pointy towertops and Christmas lights hanging from balconies. Weaving back and forth with Draco, their chase almost becomes a dance and for a moment, Harry forgets theyâre supposed to be enemies.
The clock tower passes on his right, Draco on the opposite side, and Harry catches the time: five to midnight. The fireworks should be going off in the courtyard soon and at this rate, Dracoâs not going to get the Snitch back. Might as well give him a chance and have some fun while heâs at it.
âCatch!â he shouts and tosses the Snitch across to Draco just far enough out of reach that he has to pitch backwards. Initially surprised by the sudden motion, he recovers and smoothly flows into a loop-de-loop to level back out, but his hand misses its mark and the Snitch flits away. He looks at Harry, confused. âSecond chance! Donât waste it!â
And then he spins around and bolts past Draco, who reacts just as quickly to take off across the top of Hogwarts.
They fly over the courtyard giggling like children and they must attract eyes on the ground but in the moment, thereâs nobody but him and Draco and the Golden Snitch. The flashing of the Snitch dodging in and out of the shadows and Dracoâs pale hair mussed by the wind are all he sees and Dracoâs so intensely focused that for the first time all year, not even he pays any mind to the unwanted gazes on them.
The Snitch dips low to a flat terrace and Draco is locked in, blazing forward at it. Harry mightâve sabotaged himself by giving up the Snitch, because thereâs no way he can reach it from where he is.
He can reach Draco, though, and for the second time in two months, he dives off of his broom.
His body collides with Dracoâs and together they topple onto the terrace, rolling to a stop when their brooms fall to the ground. The Snitch scurries out of reach again and buzzes in midair, mocking.
âOh, come on! I had that!â Draco pouts, then glares at Harry. âWhat is it with you and throwing yourself off of brooms?â
Harry laughs. âMust be that Gryffindor bravery.â
âMore like recklessness,â he remarks, but his eyes are bright with his smile.
They sit there, tangled in one another, quiet as they each recover from the fall. Draco is breathless with adrenaline still fresh in his blood, chest rising and falling with his tired pants, and yet he looks so relaxed and composed as he leans back to stare at the Snitch hovering from afar. His smile has faded but there's still that glimmer of excitement on his face. Harry canât tear his eyes away. Heâs never seen Draco so contentâ so passionate and realâ but he decides right there that he never wants to stop seeing it.
The sky ignites, then, with a loud pop and a shriek and a sizzle, and he's mesmerized. So much so that Draco has to look back at him to startle him out of his daze and realize he's been staring at the way Draco lights up under the colors and not the fireworks themselves. He can't help itâ apparently the fireworks are each House emblem, and Draco looks damn good in any of the colors.
Especially red.
Harry starts. âCan Iââ
âAnd Draco finishes the thought by greedily leaning in and pulling Harry towards him until their lips meet and Harry can feel Draco's heart hammering along with his own.
Dracoâs hand is on the back of Harry's head but he's messy and distracted, too focused on what he wants to figure out how to get it, and it's not enough, not nearly enough. Harry grabs at his shoulder and cups his face and pulls him in close so they're almost hugging over their tangled legs, and he takes control. With little complaint, Draco melts under his command, surrendering all the power to Harry.
Their eyes close and the fireworks are no more than a distant memory. One body pressed against the other, arms wrapped around torsos and necks, Harry vaguely registers losing his balance and toppling over. Draco doesn't seem to realize or care. He tastes like pain and like longing, like craving and desperation, and it's the biggest pleasure in the world for Harry to be the one to fulfill it all.
To both of their utter dismay, Harry breaks the kiss, because otherwise he's going to pass out from not breathing. Draco seems to share the same sentiment though, and pants even harder than he did when he fell off of Harryâs broom.
âDidnâtââ The words catch in Dracoâs throat and he clears it, awkwardly looking away. âDidnât know you could, uh⊠do that.â
Harry grins down at him. A sudden thought pops into his head and playfully, each of his hands take Dracoâs to pin beside his head. He leans down. âYeah? I didn't know you had enough Gryffindor in you to initiate it.â
âShut up and kiss me again,â Draco snaps, and he leans up to close the distance.
â
When they finally pull apartâ for good this timeâ the fireworks are long gone. The Snitch has deactivated on its own, sitting on the ground. Draco exhales with amusement. âI guess we both lost, huh.â
âNo,â Harry says and smiles. âI think we both won.â
â
Draco has always looked at him with envy and jealousy. But for the first time, he also lets the corresponding admiration and pride show through, and it's the most satisfying feeling in the world.
Harry laughs softly to himself, unable to believe it. He bagged a Malfoy. Or maybe, a Malfoy bagged him.

How to Accelerate Speed During Kiteboarding: Tips and Techniques
Kiteboarding, also known as kite surfing, is an exciting water recreation that combines kite flying, wakeboarding, and surfing. The ability to use the wind's energy to gain speed and ride the waves at high-velocity rates is a major factor in what makes it such an exciting sport. Mastering effective acceleration is necessary to take your experience to the next level. This blog discusses several proven methods for increasing your kiteboarding speed.Â

#1 Proper Setup
The key to getting faster is picking the right kiteboarding gear. When the wind is weak, the larger the kite, the more power it generates. However, smaller kites, which allow for greater control and less risk of being overpowered, are preferable for heavier winds. If you want your kite to accelerate as much as possible, you must rig it up properly for the wind and your skill level.
#2 Downwind Technique
Use the downwind approach to quickly gain speed. You may direct the kite downwind by drawing the bar in toward your body. The stronger the kite, the further you'll be propelled. Maintain a stable edge and distribute your weight evenly over the board for optimal speed. Remember that the downwind technique is difficult to master without consistent repetition and a steady hand.
#3 Edge Control
ï»ż
Kiteboarding requires excellent edge control for safety and forward momentum. Focus on cutting upwind and letting go of the edge to gather speed downhill for rapid acceleration. Keep the kite steady above you by using your lower body and the board to manage the edge. You can avoid spinning out or losing control at fast speeds with some practice in edge control.Â
#4 Accurate Steering
Accelerating smoothly requires precise kite steering. When you need a burst of speed, pull the bar in, and when you want to depower a kite, push the bar away. You may maximize your ride and keep your speed constant with quick, precise motions of the kite. Avoid making erratic movements that could cause you to lose your footing.
#5 Weight Distribution
Keeping your body in the appropriate position and balancing your weight evenly is vital for increasing your speed. Your weight should be centered over the board as you maintain a little stoop. You'll be able to respond swiftly to shifting winds and waves from this vantage point. Don't lean too far back or forward, as doing so will cause the board to lose stability and slow you down.Â
#6 Utilize WavesÂ
Incorporating waves and swells can significantly boost your acceleration during kiteboarding. Try to time your rides with the waves and use the energy of the moving water to propel yourself forward. By riding along the swell, you can harness additional speed and extend the duration of your runs.
#7 Regular PracticeÂ
Like any sport, regular practice is essential for improving your kiteboarding skills, including acceleration. The more time you spend on the water, the better you'll understand the wind patterns and how to utilize them to your advantage. Maintaining good physical fitness will also enhance your overall performance and ability to handle higher speeds.
#8 Safety First
Finally, always put your safety first. Kiteboard only in the circumstances within your skill level, so always check the forecast before venturing out. Look for other people on the water and always stay inside the marked safe zones.
Final Words
In conclusion, accelerating speed during is a skill that can be developed with practice, technique and a thorough understanding of wind dynamics. You can take your experience to new heights and revel in the adrenaline-pumping thrill of high-speed rides. So get out there, hit the waves, and enjoy the incredible journey! Also remember to buy the best kiteboards from your trusted kiteboarding shop.Â

Why do cars only have five gears?
Why do cars only have five gears? They actually donât. Some cars have 4 and some cars have 6 or 7. Modern cars have an infinite number and electric cars donât have any. Most manual cars have five gears, but that doesnât mean all cars have five. However, five is the most common number because the advantages to having more gears donât outweigh the disadvantages.
Why do cars have gears? The gears provide more power to the wheels and they allow the car to go faster. A carâs engine is connected to the gearbox by the main shaft. The gearbox connects to the drivetrain, which sends the power to the wheels. When an engine is switched on, the fuel is burned, the pistons go up and down, and the main shaft spins. Very quickly the engine reaches 600 to 1000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute). If the main shaft was connected directly to the wheels without a gearbox, the wheels would have to rotate at 1000 RPM. A car tire is about 60 cm in diameter and it does about 840 revolutions for every mile. If your car tires are spinning 1,000 times per minute, you are travelling at about 70 miles an hour. If you get the RPM of your engine up to 4000, you are going to be breaking land speed records. That is obviously not possible. The first thing the gear does is disconnect the wheels from the engine shaft and reduce the RPM reaching the wheel. The second thing the engine does is to increase the power. It takes a lot of energy to get a car moving. If your wheels spin at 1000 RPM, your car wonât have enough torque to move and the engine will stall. Low gears give the car more force and get it moving. Then higher gears transfer more RPM to the wheels. A combustion engine can only work well within a certain range of RPM. The gears keep the engine within that range of RPM.
So, what are the advantages of more gears? They give a smoother ride. When you change gear, the amount of RPM to the wheels change and the car jerks slightly. More gears mean less of an RPM change. More gears mean a car could get more torque at lower speeds and potentially climb steeper slopes. More gears also mean that a car could go faster when it is in the higher gears. A higher gear would reduce the amount of fuel you need to use to keep your car going fast. However, these changes are all minimal. There are more disadvantages. With more gears, you have more moving parts, which means more things to break. It will cost more to fix them and it will be expensive to install them. The extra speed and the extra fuel efficiency are minimal. If there were significant advantages to having more gears, then more cars would have them.
5 gears is the norm, but any car with gears is not going to be completely efficient. An automatic gearbox is more efficient than a manual car because the computer knows exactly when to change gear for peak performance, and humans are not able to do that. However, a lot of modern cars use something called a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This works by having a flexible belt over two pulleys. One of the pulleys is connected to the engine and the other is connected to the carâs wheels. These pulleys have cones in them that can move to increase or decrease the size of the pulley. By varying their size, they can very quickly go through an enormous range of gears. This means there is no lurching with the gear changes and no sound of the gears changing. The cars can increase or decrease speed very quickly and smoothly. They are also far more efficient than a regular transmission with gears because they can keep the car within the most efficient band of RPM, and they donât lose momentum when they change gears.
CVTs are more efficient than manual and automatic transmission, but electric cars donât have any gears at all. An electric car has a motor on each one of its four wheels. When the engine is switched on, and the accelerator is pressed, the electric motors start to spin. Electric motors can spin at much higher RPMs than a combustion engine and they donât have any band of RPMs that they are most efficient in. They are as efficient at low RPMs as they are at high ones. Each motor is connected to a wheel and when they spin, the wheels spin. If you want to go faster, the motor just spins faster. There is no need to go through a complicated series of cogs. It is smooth and very efficient. Also, because of this system, electric cars donât need brakes either. To brake, you only need to remove your foot off the accelerator. The motors will stop spinning and the car will slow down. And this is what I learned today.
