(soa anon) I don't think you've been asked this before. What are your favorite GOT episodes? Can limit it to top ten if you don't want it too short.

Oh! I haven't been asked this before. It's so difficult because there are scenes that I really like in episodes but I wouldn't necessarily say those episodes are my favourite. Hmm...

A lot of them are the penultimate episodes because that's when there's a battle or a massacre or the Big Event but it's more layered than simply being action because it's when all of the tension from the season finally comes to a head

3x09 - The Rains of Castemere

I will never be over this.

2x09 - Blackwater

I very rarely like battle scenes. showed me I can be quite engaged in them if they're done properly.

1x09 - Baelor

I will also never get over this.

6x09 - Battle of the Bastards

Season 6 was a pretty dry season for me and so getting the Battle of the Bastards was really welcomed and invigorating.

4x09 - The Watchers on the Wall

I remember people thought I was crazy for being more emotional about this than Oberyn's death but I wasn't attached to Oberyn, I was attached to Grenn and the others.

2x06 - The Old Gods and the New

This episode, specifically the riot and more specifically the scene with Sansa, is what I think of when I watch HotD and scream internally about how boring that show is because this episode was all about the simmering tension/resentments and the dam bursting and it was straight up chaos and it was captured well.

1x07 - You Win Or You Die

Again, when watching HotD, this episode is one I think of when it comes to compelling dialogue that reveals character and drives the plot forward and keeps you engaged.

1x08 - The Pointy End

The music at the end when Sansa begs for Ned still stays with me.

6x10 (sorta) - The Winds of Winter

2x05 - The Ghost of Harrenhal

The tension in this episode was palpable.

At the time I was unimpressed with 4x02 but in hindsight of the whole series, I'll put it down

Below is a list of my favorite episodes from Season Four of "GAME OF THRONES", HBO's adaptation of the second half of George R. R. Martin's 2000 novel from his A Song of Ice and Fire series, "A Storm of Swords". The series was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss:

1. (4.02) "The Lion and the Rose" - The elite citizens of King's Landing celebrate the wedding of King Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell. Joffrey's uncle, Tyrion Lannister, tries to break up with his mistress Shae so that she would leave Westeros avoid being targeted by his powerful father, Tywin Lannister.

2. (4.08) "The Mountain and the Viper" - The battered Theon Greyjoy helps his captor Ramsay Bolton seize the last Greyjoy stronghold in the North, Moat Cailin. The wildlings attack Mole's Town. Sansa Stark and Lord Petyr Baelish arrive at the Eyrie, the home of her aunt Lysa Arryn. Jon Snow leads the Night's Watch in an attack against the mutineers at Craster's Keep.

4. (4.09) "The Watchers on the Wall" - The Night's Watch finally engage in an open battle against the attacking Freefolk aka "Wildlings".

5. (4.07) "Mockingbird" - Tyrion tries to find a champion for his upcoming trial by combat. Daenerys finally sleeps with her hired mercenary, Daario Naharis. Brienne and Podrick receive a tip on Arya Stark's whereabouts. And both Sansa and Lord Baelish come into conflict with her jealous aunt Lysa.

I just saw the Season Four episode of “GAME OF THRONES” called (4.02) “The Lion and the Rose”.  Wow!  What is it about weddings on this show?  I also noticed that the episode ended with someone singing “The Rains of Castamere”  . . . the same tune from the Season Three episode that featured the Red Wedding.  I also learned that it was sung by Jack Gleeson, the actor who portrayed Joffrey Baratheon.  Nice voice.

Christian: Scream- Stu: Honestly the way Stu shot himself and then cried like a bitch was very reminiscent of how Christian threw a fit the moment he knew his game was over.

Claire: The Walking Dead- 4x14 “Prey”: When Carol has to kill Lizzy because Lizzy had become a threat. The parallels I felt from watching Tiffany send Claire out OOF. JUST LOOK AT THE FLOWERS CLAIRE! LOOK AT THE FLOWERS!! 😭😭

Derek F: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2- Bellatrix Lestrange: it’s the fact that Bellatrix was called a bitch and then killed by a scornful woman. That’s exactly how DF’s BB deserves to end. NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!

Derek X: Marley & Me- …we knew it was coming…but it was so hard to watch 🥺

Kyland: The Lion King- Scar: His reign of terror comes to end and he gets thrown to the hyenas. Poetic really.

Apparently there are fans who... don’t think Bran is going to play a significant role in bringing down the Others/White Walkers??? I’d always been under the impression that Bran’s importance in the War for the Dawn was one of the few plot points most fans agreed on, but apparently this is now a controversial opinion in some circles... especially if it involves him warging into a dragon... or doing anything other than passing on information to other characters, tbh. (Yes, yes I did peer down the r/freefolk rabbit hole last month. Yes, I do regret it.)

Saying that Bran will be important in defeating the Night King doesn’t diminish the role that other characters will play in facing that threat? And frankly, that and ableism are the only reasons I can think of for fans to ignore all the glaring signs of his narrative importance.

I mean, yeah, the TV show has downplayed Bran’s importance to the series---partially because D&D have historically been wary about portraying the more supernatural side of the story (hence cutting things like Dany’s dragon dreams) and partially because I get the sense that D&D didn’t find Bran’s character or POV chapters very interesting---but...

Even from a show-only perspective, this opinion completely baffles me. How can you look at the guy who has been getting a crash course in greenseeing and warging---the guy who has shared Significant Looks(TM) with the Night King on the show (and that makes it sound like I ship them lol)---and go, ‘Ah yes, Jon and Dany are clearly the only characters who matter in the War for the Dawn’??

I mean, Children of the Forest sacrificed themselves to protect the Three-Eyed Raven and Bran from the Night King in 6x04. The signs of a character having a Destiny(TM) don’t get much clearer than having actual beings of ancient legend putting that character’s life above their own.

Since we’re talking show-only perspective right now, here are just a handful of GOT quotes that positively scream ‘Pay Attention, Bran Stark Is Important’:

Jojen Reed [to Bran]: "I have seen the only thing that matters... you."  —3x02: "Dark Wings, Dark Words"
