Perfect Sense (2011)
dir. David Macekzie
Star rating: 4/5
spoilers under the cut
OH MEIN GOTT this was so good. this really passed my expectations!!! not the biggest fan of romance stories, but i think movies like this are making me change that opinion.
the movie's concept is something i have never ever even THOUGHT of -- a sickness that removes any and all senses, one by one. and yet the movie perfectly replicates something we have all experienced: the covid pandemic. i'm surprised i havent heard of this movie before with how similar (scarily similar) the situations are. i really don't have any complaints about how they handled the virus in this, unlike a LOT of other films that cover the same subject matter.
i think the romance between Susan and Michael is very cute and pretty realistic to couples that went through covid together (not speaking from experience so i might be wrong lol) the scene where they're bathing together and they eat SOAP is TOO CUTE for the fact they just ate soap. i too would eat soap if i couldn't taste anything
i very much like the way they handled slowly losing senses. the ringing before total utter silence. the last 20 or so minutes are almost completely silent - only broken up by ambience and the narrator. it's haunting, in a way. especially as someone that fears one day losing his hearing.
the writing can be a bit cheesy or over dramatic, but theres one line that really sticks with me. it was when the virus made people those their sense of smell -- “The greater loss are all the memories that are no longer triggered.” -- such a genuinely great line.
the cinematography isn't all that special, but some shots are very pretty!! this one in particular is STUNNING:
it is so, so good. i can't stop looking at it.
the ending was very good, although i wish they touched (pun intended) more on the loss of sight. if this had a little more run time, i'm sure they would have got to it. they also never talked about touch? which is a sense? i think the scenes where people are touching everything they can, just to FEEL something, is supposed to be like "all the virus allows them to have is touch." just wish they made it a bit more obvious, maybe a narration? idk
although i have some complaints, they're pretty minor. this was a really really good watch !!!

Once upon a broken hearth
DISCLAIMER:
♡ I do not give a shit if you do not agree with my opinion on various books.
♡ I have the right to block anyone who annoys me.
♡ If you do somehow think that I deserve to be blocked because of my opinion do it straight away don’t comment about it I don’t care.
♡ My reviews contain spoilers so read at your own risk.
I have finished this book a while ago but I forgot about the existence of tumblr so here it is, get ready because tomorrow you'll be getting the review of the second book aswell we're back on the daily post streak.
I'm too sleepy to explain what the book is about so if you wanna know, read the synopsis or something like that because I'll be getting right into the review.
My rating of this book is a 3.5/5 perhaps 4/5 if I'm being generous, I hated the character development, but the world building makes up for it. The way Stephanie described the Magnificent North was amazing, although I must admit I wanted to see more of the Meridian Empire.
Many people who recommended this book to me described Evangeline as a "girlboss", girl where? She's as dependent of other people as we depend on air. The fact that she was the key was so predictable and the fact that Apollo wasn't actually dead could be seen from miles away.
We're not even gonna talk about Jacks, his character was shitty, he didn't even have development until the third part of the book. I've said I like short chapters but not this short.

were in his position i personally would have minded my business and let the noir-style femme fatale lesbians who murdered the crooked wall street man get away with their “crime” but the wealthy, british male psychiatrist in bed with corporate pill pushers who utilized literal torture tactics and decided to drug a woman into a malleable zombie rather than send her to prison received the happily ever after so maybe i’m just built different than the film’s writer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#4/5 stars#it was still a damned good movie just a flawed ending and poor choice of protagonist#horror#horror films#noir films#lesbian#wlw#idk

Ruthless Vows
Rebecca Ross never fails me, but I do have to admit that I enjoyed her Elements of Cadence duology more, nothing bad with Letters of Enchantment, but it is a romance in every sense of the word, I knew that, but maybe I wasn’t into it at the time so I didn’t enjoy it quite as much, I guess I missed the folkloric vibes and I would’ve enjoyed it much more if the gods aspect of the story took more of the central roles, but I understand why it didn’t.
That being said, it’s a good book, starts slow after the cliffhanger of the first one, but when it picks up, it has you entranced and you won’t be able to put it down, Ross is very good at writing tension and she knows how to keep that beat flowing to keep you in the moment, and the release of tension is usually very satisfying, that’s something I really enjoy of her writing. If you’re think about reading it, do give it a try, it is worth the read.

Talk to Me (2023)
dir. Danny & Michael Philippou
Star rating: 4/5
changed to 4.5/5
(spoilers free)
THIS is what i want from horror. holy fucking shit.
this was a BLAST, from beginning to end. i genuinely think this is the best horror to come out of 2023. the cinematography was great, the special effects were fantastic. i cannot give this movie enough credit. go into this completely blind, i beg of you.
(spoilers under the cut)
as i said up there ^^ this was the best horror this year thus far. it is gonna be VERY hard to beat. however, i do have some nitpicks, so lets get those outta the way first.
near the middle it definitely drags a little, but nothing really that took me outta the movie. some of the acting can be a little ehhh but again, nothing that took me out, i still had a blast.
it was SCARY?! and i dont get scared during horror most of the time. i was very shocked at how much tension it brought. and most of the time they didnt even have to rely on the loudest possible noise ever to get me to clutch the plush i brought.
the characters were incredible, i genuinely felt like i was peaking into the lives of this group of friends. and theres a trans person!!!! PLAYED BY A TRANS PERSON!!!!!!! i am so so happy, that made me almost cry when they were first introduced. speaking of crying, i actually did end up crying !!! theres a scene where Mia is looking at snapchat memories of her dead mom, and man. that really hits me very deeply as someone who loves my mother very, very much.
even despite the tension, the emotion, it was still funny (when it wanted to be.) theres a scene where Mia gets possessed and SUCKS on her ex boyfriend's TOES and he wakes up and is like "Mia you were suckin' on my foot?!" (said Australian-ly) and that got a giggle outta the theater.
the attention to detail is insane. Mista GG (who i love) touched on this in his review, but all of the hand symbolism is very nice to see. i love details like that. i picked up on a little bit of it, but he definitely opened my eyes to new symbolism like Mia's mom getting wood under her fingernails from scratching at the bathroom door after attempting to take her own life, or Mia constantly picking at her fingernails only to repaint them again. the little shit like that makes my heart happy.
the ENDING, god the ending. so hopeless. it fills you with emptiness. i LOVE IT!!! i love when horror is helpless and scary and dreadful!!!
the amount of love and care put into this movie makes me so, so happy. and it was made by YOUTUBERS !! thats crazy!!! i havent heard of these guys before but you can tell they LOVE their craft, they LOVE what they do, and i am so excited to see more from them. i want to consume everything they create and then some.
i honestly think i'm going to go see this one again if i don't have anything to watch this friday. i am so excited to see what these directors have in store for a potential sequel, the Street Fighter movie that they're directing, and the movie they've been wanting to make that they talked about in the Anthony Padilla interview. i am obsessed!!!

Game Rec: Farm RPG
Check out my newest blog post, a game rec!
When I started writing about video games, I debated if I was going to put time into talking about the myriad of mobile games that I tend to download. As someone with ADHD, finding games that have enough to do to keep me playing but aren’t restricted by waiting for energy to fill, full of obnoxious ads, or increasingly pay-to-win can be challenging. My brain decides pretty much the first thirty…
