3l!grian is frequently depicted as a tragic figure and sometimes i wonder if we even watched the same series
#like yes he is tragic. every character in the series is tragic but i think hes easily the least tragic of the winners#(except maybe cleo. i have my own thoughts about how cleos victory plays into her core themes and why its not as joyous or triumphant as#cleo the players and the fandom at large make it seem that i will have to make a real post about at some point)#grian dies Laughing. he smiles and calls it a dual victory before the final fight. his last words are “its been amazing.”#to me Grians arc is about how he came in with this sense of mirth. had it ripled away by the reality when his joke gets Scar killed.#and then rediscovers it as he learns that the horror of their circumstances doesn't need to keep him from delight#plus also ive never seen a man more delighted to explode three of his friends#ill also bring up that Martyns lore has Grian involved in the games explicitly to COMBAT the angst#that Grians inherent silliness and joy makes the players less hopeless as they meet their endings#and theres obviously parts of martyns lore i can take or leave but this is one area where Eyes and Ears lines up very well with what actions#the characters take and so im happy to bring it up#unlike other parts such as “limlife pearl and cleo retained more trauma between seasons than any player has before”#which i do directly refute as it doesn't seem to line up with the way the characters act and the story plays out#thats for another post though#my point here is 3l grian was having the time of his life and i think there are some fanon interpretationd that disregard that#which theyre free to do im definitely someone who has ignored canon plenty of times in the past (glances at worm)#but i think this is the sort of thing that makes the canon more interesting and compelling#anyway. um. rambled longer than i meant to there#grian#trafficblr#3rd life#3rd life smp#3lsmp

Winning really destroyed Grian’s feelings toward Scar. He was so fiercely loyal, then slowly over the series has lost any capacity to care for Scar, actively causing his death in Limited Life. I wonder where we go from there. Because they’re so twined together throughout the life series, always finding eachother. How will Grian’s feelings progress deeper? Will he slowly find himself loyal to Scar without being forced to again? If so, will the cycle repeat?

actually the enderman was grian so it works in double life too.
(what colour are endermen associated with? purple. what part of them is purple? their eyes. what entities are also associated with the colour purple and with eyes? watchers. what is grian at least in the martyn dub? a watcher. grian is that enderman.)
Before I forget I feel that we as a fandom are massively overlooking two facts
Grian has permakilled every partner he has ever had. Every single one. He either directly murdered them or his plan got them killed (I think Martyn is the only exception to this but I have to go back and see)
Jimmy has been one of Grian’s allies every season
3L. Flower husbands team with Desertduo against the renchanting crowd. Jimmy died in the first battle
LL. Jimmy and Grian were both a part of the southlands. Grian directly stabs Jimmy AT THE SOUTHLANDS
DL. Not a permadeath but Jimmy fell when hiding out at the red velvet keep with Grian and Scar.
LimL. Grian’s plan to have him push the minecart off resulted in Jimmy falling
SO WHILE JIMMY IS THE CANARY. IT SEEMS LIKE A CERTAIN SOMEONE IS THE SMOKE IN THE MINES
Just food for thought

I love when things just. Happen. In the Life series. And I specifically mean coincidences.
Obviously you have your "Jimmy is always out first" and your "Grian always kills the person he cares for most in a given season." But even just the last episode.
Like you're telling me Scott put on a gold helmet, which looks like a crown with the texture pack, and was caught wearing it by Martyn— Hand of the King in a previous season— immediately after exiting the nether?
Or how the highest kill count for a single trap has been 3 since 3rd Life, set by Grian for an illegal tnt trap, was just met again by Scar with an illegal tnt trap.
Or how the episode Grian (Watcher alligation) goes AFK, he hands the responsibility of giving people time to Martyn (Listener alligation), and the session ends up being the one filled with a ton of illegal kills and chaos? Like Martyn was not meant to be in charge of the game.
Facts like these are so special to me. You understand.

Life Series Seasons are based on THEIR WINNER. As in, that season’s winner. Sure, it obviously fits the previous winners, obviously, but. Y’know. They gave their winners an advantage with the ruleset in some manner.
3rd Life.
Grian wins the first game. The beginner game. Befitting of it’s creator to win it first. After all, he’s more acquainted with it, he’s willing to bend the rules and fight tooth and nail to the end. He gets bent to Scar’s will, but that’s what kept him alive longer. He is like the older sibling palying a board game against their younger sibling(s) and beating them.
-
Last Life.
Scott is someone who values his allies lives over his own. The ability to give and receive lives clearly reflect this. If given the chance, he’d have given an ally a life just to keep them around longer. The Boogeyman, a way to break alliances, the whole reds can’t ally with non-reds, they’re ways to combat this. And still, he could thrive.
-
Double Life.
Pearl. The lonely one wins the series where the entire point is you will forever have an ally. Your lives are linked to another player and yet Pearl is still alone. And she won for good reason. After all, if another pair made it to the end, there can only be one winner. In the end, we would’ve had another cactus ring situation, and Pearl won instead. She was the winner curated for this season.
-
Limited Life.
Martyn winning the time-based season suits him. (.. i haven’t watched LimLife. I can’t say a word on this.)
-
Real Life
Cleo won the joke April Fools season. She won the season where everyone was in a new situation and was thrust into the game with VR. It was full of jokes and gags and truly befitting of The ZombieCleo. She won the season where everything was new and she prevailed. She knows how to take advantage of the way that people work with new situations. (We see this with the Crastle especially. The entire series was new and she used Bdubs’ surprise at being allied with the Desert as a way to rein him in from doing something he may regret. [targetting the desert, etho, anyone who hurt the crastle, etc.])
-
Secret Life
Scar won this season for good reason. In past seasons he would go on short side-tasks and return to his main task in the end. He was isolated for good reason, too. He’s a good player. Such a good player, and yet he’s always died before making it to being a winner. But being isolated helped him see his potential as a winner. And he won. It’s also ironic that the series that ends the curse starts with the man who started the curses in the first place. (Grian’s Widow Curse, his alliances led to the Canary Curse, etc. etc.)
-
Wild Life
Joel. Oh, Joel. The wildcard. He is wild on red and wild on green. He thrives in the wild and that’s how he won. He is known for his wildness and the series based on it is clearly the reason why he won this time. There is no other way fitting for him to win. He was reined in, yes, but that’s also how he won. He wasn’t as wild as before because there was already a way to be wild. The Wildcards. Competing with the gimmick of the day would result in his death and there’s got to be reason for his wildness in the end. He isn’t like this for no reason, after all.

i feel like grian would be REALLY good at knitting but he doesnt really tell anyone,, he mostly just makes himself sweaters but he sometimes makes other things but he doesnt really take credit for anything he knits and gives to other ppl
EXCEPT in 3rd life he noticed that scar got cold in the night (obviously, since he doesnt even wear a shirt!! but grians not even sure if he even has a shirt at this point) so when they next shear pizza he takes the wool and uses it to knit scar a sweater >:3
eince theyre in a death game he cant rlly be like yeah i totally got it off server so scars like ??? u can KNIT??? THIS IS SO COOL THANK U?? and grian gets flustered and is like its not THAT cool scar you just need to wear a shirt smh (he internally is SUPER happy about him liking it, and he starts to knit him more things when they get back to hermitcraft)

I made a post a little while ago about Scar (and Grian's) loyalty habits, and it's relevant again because Scar is breaking them.
In that post, I concluded that Scar's loyal for as long as he deems necessary, and is quick to turn on an ally if it means saving his own skin. This is seen in his betrayal of Grian in 3rd Life and his quick turn on Pearl in Secret Life (obviously a looser connection). But this season is different.
For the first time, Scar is erasing his escape plan. He's thrown himself fully into both his alliance to Jimmy and Gem, declaring neither of them will face his betrayal. Push has not yet come to shove, so he could still fall into old habits, but the fact that he is even bothering to declare his loyalty! Crazy.
It's his win. He's seen what it's like to finally win. He finally made it to the end. His self-preserving instincts got him victory. And he learned it wasn't worth it. So now he's changing. He's gonna help the people he cares about now because he's done losing people for the sake of his own life.

Just a little yap session from a silly creature
Grian is known as unloyal right? But i was just thinking, in 3rd life he stayed with scar to the end, even after he lost his first life, last life, he stayed until the Southlanders disbanded, and still stayed with Impulse, yeah he killed Mumbo and Jimmy but they did hit him first, i don't even remember what Martyn did but he wondered off i think, Double life, yeah okay he did cheat on Scar with the secret soulmates, though he did still try to stay with Scar, he gave him what he could and stayed, Limited life, He stayed until his boys died, didn't really turn on them or anything, stayed until they died and kept the bad boy skin on to honor them, Secret life, he stayed with Etho and Cleo till the end, even though he was alone for the first few episodes, Real life, technically he stayed with Timmy, Scar and Joel i think that was the team there. I guess we shall see what will happen in Wild life though, I'm very excited for more videos ❤💛💚
But I don't know just my view on this and I'm a Grian fictionkin (Of the character, not the CC obviously) so idk, i could just yap about the life series forever <3

poo poo pee pee oooohh you wanna tal;k about mumscarian asooooo bad ouuhohhhhh you wanna discuss tehem and tyour headcannons on them SOOO ABADDDD
OUHH I WANNA TALK ABOUT MUMSCARIAN SOOOOO BAD
(guys, obviously this is not about the content creators, those are real people. this is all about the characters!! ty 🫶)
guys literally ENOUGH trying to chose between Grumbo or Scarian or Redscape. they all have two hands. And it’s not Just Grumbo + Scar or Scarian + Mumbo, THEY ALL HAVE WONDERFUL CHEMISTRY!!
Grian and Mumbo CLEARLY like each other— summoning circles and bothering each other every single day (not so much this season), they genuinely enjoy each other’s company, love being around each other— a good example could be in secret life, Grian’s first task to make bad puns and have no one laugh. And what did he do?? Immediately goes to find Mumbo, despite knowing Mumbo is the world’s giggliest person!! Another one is Mumbo’s complete and total regret when making that deal with Grian for his permits— when he took the bit too far and Grian backed out he felt so bad about it!!
Scar and Grian, I mean. C’mon. We have everything about third life, and then double life— and they have such a fun teasing sort of relationship! They laugh with each other and poke fun and that’s how they are !!! They are NOT bad for each other or mean to each other or anything, they play off of each other and don’t hold grudges for their bits. Like the snails bit, or the on hold bit (all from this season), they’re just ! fun and playful together.
Mumbo and Scar are absolutely wonderful together ! their personalities work well together and they’re so hilarious— i love me a crazy bitch (scar) and the seemingly normal guy said crazy bitch totes around with him (mumbo). That’s not to say Mumbo’s normal, he’s only regular because everyone around him is batshit /j still though! Scar does all his crazy shit, and Mumbo’s along for the ride bc they like hanging out together! Mumbo loves Scar’s builds and takes inspo from them, they based next to each other on magic mountain, they’re just so !!
And let’s not forget !! the buttercups! All of season nine! The fact that they’ve based together every season since Grian’s joined!!!
as for headcanons i. literally could talk for hours about it but my phone is dying and its late,,, so have this short list!!
- Grian falls asleep in the sun SO often and whenever Scar or Mumbo finds him, they just ! join him !
- Scar’s the strongest, Grian’s the lightest, and Mumbo’s the weakest. Grian has hollow bird bones and therefore is really light ! Mumbo just is,,,, such a twink im sorry its gotta be said. He may haul redstone components around but he is NOT buff. Scar is buff okay it just Makes Sense. He can pick both Grian and Mumbo up easy
- Mumbo’s the most easily flustered, and Grian and Scar tag team flirt with him SOOOO OFTEN. It just ends in Mumbo being a red and stuttering mess
- Mumbo also is the worst at flirting— Grian’s the best, and Scar isn’t good at it but his insane demeanor and strange behaviors are so captivating to the other two. Mumbo cant flirt to save his life. He once tried a simple pickup line on Grian and forgot how it went halfway through. He’s tried to flirt with Scar and fell face first into the dirt.
- Mumbo still has insane loserboy rizz and autistic swagger. how??? no one knows! but his nervous demeanor and autistic rizz bagged both scar and grian idk
- The Buttercups was a resistance to Doc, yes, but it was ALSO Grian and Scar inviting Mumbo into their relationship. Mumbo did not realize this until FAR into the buttercups. He was not complaining
- On that note, Grian and Scar were dating first, absolutely. After 3rd life??? there was no way they weren’t. But they saw Mumbo, in all his autism, loserboy, anxiety disorder swagger, and both fell head over heels.
- Mumbo has like. Always been in love with Grian and Scar. Since they became friends, basically. But he was nervous to say anything, and then they were dating, and it was okay! Mumbo was absolutely smitten, but it was manageable. He loved them both so much— it was a bruise that only hurt when you pushed on it. But he loved being around them! He loved being their friend, so it was okay! He was their friend, and he loved them, and he was okay with that
- Of course, they DID love him back. Mumbo just didn’t realize that,,,, for a while,,,,,
I’m sure i could come up with more! but like i said it’s late and i need to sleep lmao

Watcher Grian headcanon:
LONG RAMBLES INCOMING
So grian can at least partially control his watcher-ness, can keep it at bay, let it stay hidden because he doesn't want to acknowledge that part of him- even if it's something he can't entirely resist. If we say that Grian got kidnapped by the Watchers at the end of evo, then he'd been keeping that part of him hidden for- what, three years? There's time obviously between when he got kidnapped by the watchers and when he begins Hermitcraft, so at the beginning of season six you can't really notice it much, as he's had practice hiding it, and more importantly, he hates that part of him. And things were good, calm for a few years. That is, until the life series.
In third life, he knows immediately what this is. That it's the work of the Watchers, that they have found him and his friends, and they are going to make him pay- make each one of his friends die around him. I think 3rd life has the most impact on Grian, from just...realizing that the Watchers aren't just ignoring him anymore, and that now they're bringing his friends into the whole mess- and it's all his fault.
Last life comes and goes, he knew what was going to happen this time. The ache inside of him has dimmed to a numbness, a constant thud.
Then...well, then there's Double Life. The Watchers put him with the only person he wishes to escape from- Scar. He can't face him, not again, and knowing that he might once again be responsible for his death. And that anguish begins the process of his Watcher-esque side to come out again. We've got the rift in season nine that's also part of that.
Each season of the life series since then, he's falling easier and easier into the Watchers grasp. He's become more ruthless. And when he gets mad- you can see it. The purple glow around him, the tips of his wings growing to a dark lavender. One of the eyes on his cheek burns, and he can feel his own power inside of him, fueling his emotions, making them stronger.
That's why he mentioned the canary curse to Jimmy. That's why he's vowing to kill Scar. That's why he's "complaining" about Skizz being incompetent. He hardly realizes it's happening- but he enjoys this. He enjoys being in power, being the one to control the chaos. He could change everything from a wave of his hand if he wanted. And that watcher-ness is growing, becoming stronger. And I don't know where thats going to lead him.

i know i’ve already felt what it’s like to obsess over blorbos. but i am feeling the same way you do about dessert duo in the ring rn
IM THINKING ABT THEM WHILE CLEANING MY BLOG OUT BC ITS SO PAINFULLY SLOW !!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
thinking abt 3rd life Grian and Scar having a slow burn romance--i mean, as slow as you could be in a fast paced death game like that, but still ! When Grian realizes he likes Scar, hes like. horrified. obviously. like. 'whats happening to me !!'
But then he gets really clingy anyway quickly. Grian wants his love and attention soooo bad, very intense eye contact like 'i want everything from you i want to do everything with you' he feels very intently

I just realised smthn about grians deaths in the life series; he always thinks of his allies as he dies
•3rd life: obviously I don’t need to explain it
•last life: he shouts for Joel in his final moments
•double life: immediately after dying he says ‘I’m sorry scar’
•limited life: again immediately after dying he says ‘don’t tell Tim’
Just something I found interesting
