This is a reply I wanted to make my own detailed reply about but I've also been at dog training and car camping for the past 36 hours so:

Coming from having worked a tech job, having known a lot about phones since the first Galaxy line came out, and having a literal programming degree, I agree that there's both a bunch of really silly things people like to dunk on tech-wise and also plenty of things to rightly critique.

I just passed a lengthy post right before posting this that was dunking on larger-sized phones and I get it. If you have small hands or limited hand/finger dexterity, a larger phone is a hinderance more than anything else.

But also like. My larger phone works really well for my needs, in fact I'm honestly kinda sad that Samsung retired the Note line and that when this phone eventually dies (it's been close to 4 years lbr my phone will not last forever) I'll have to start over on the search for a phone that I actually like using that also fits my own hand mobility needs.

And like. Clearly this was also a phone line that was pretty popular (until they started setting themselves in fire, tho that was a battery issue Samsung knew about and ignored because money, as happens with companies) considering they made about 15 of them before going a different direction. Like everyone makes fun of iphones too but clearly they're popular considering Apple comes out with 5 new ones every year.

Companies want money. If people buy the product, companies will make more, because they want more money. If people don't buy the product, companies will stop selling. In this economy, people don't buy what they don't want. No one is spending a thousand dollars on a new phone unless they're convinced they actually want said phone. Yes, even if they have buyer's regret after they bought it.

But I also think that a lot of people have a problem accepting their own complacency in market decisions. Samsung ignored the battery problem it's known about in its entire Galaxy line until the Notes started setting themselves on fire because people were both buying them anyway and also demanding longer battery times with shorter charging times. I was returning phones for burning customer faces as early as the Galaxy 3. And these customers were still buying the next Galaxy device when it came out- myself included, because they had other features I liked and I knew how to avoid the hot phone problem.

Despite what a lot of people think, most tech companies aren't made up of evil villians stroking their beards and twirling their moustaches as they think about The Horrors they can unleash on an unsuspecting consumer population. Most of these stupidass tech decisions are market-driven. Someone somewhere is asking for this, or some semblence of this, and even if it has a bad result it's usually a lot less "Samsung wants to set people's faces on fire" and a lot more "Samsung made stupid decisions regarding their lithium batteries while chasing the goal of longer-lasting charges with faster and faster charge times while *also* doing this in the most cost-cutting way possible to maximize profit, causing batteries to overheat dramatically until they caught the lithium on fire and/or burned the shit out of the person holding the phone" and "it was more cost effective to refund when a returned phone overheated due to the known battery issue and make a small NDA payment a couple times per year to keep people quiet than to figure out why the phones were overheating and how to fix it"

When it comes to phablets, honestly I feel it's a lot more "more and more people are asking for a larger phone due to media consumption and aging phone-using population which causes vision and mobility concerns that could be solved by a larger surface area" and "there is a maximum on storage and processing power one hits in a small form factor before the size of the casing needs to expand" and a lot less "tech companies don't understand how big the average person's hands are".

Personally I think tablets are stupid and trendy. I also think "small/midsized computer for low powered work and play that's less expensive than a laptop but not as awkward to use as a phone" has been a goal many tech companies have been chasing for a while. Back when I was in high school and college, it was netbooks. Before that, people were making little handheld bluetooth keyboards for phones and making handheld PCs that honestly looked a lot like what the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck are now. Both of which still exist and are pretty popular in niche markets. Tablets are wildly popular even though the market is saturated with junk, and nowadays most tablets that are worth bothering with are the same price as a laptop and if you add a keyboard close to the same size as a laptop anyway.

But it did create an interest in lines of touchscreen laptops that can be seperated from their keyboards, one of which I also bought because it solved some disability problems for me that a regular laptop couldn't. And, same thing, clearly that's popular considering that company is on its 10th iteration of the concept with no signs of slowing down.

I know a lot of people like to hate on phablets but having a larger phone like the Note series has actually been phenominal for me and my hand tremor because there's more margin for error when I use it

Kaoru Anesagi: In any case, it's something that originates from before the CEO of Toi Toi Toi was making the kind of profit he is today.

Kaoru Anesagi: He tried to turn his parents' business into a toy shop, but he just couldn't make it succeed.

Kaoru Anesagi: Then the kid would start dancing while singing "ooh, ooh", and that was the blueprint for Rabitty-kun.

Ryunosuke Tsunashi: Wow..! I think it's really nice that Rabitty-kun was technically born out of a child's idea.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH PSYCH HUNTER 心宅猎人

I AM BACK!!! WITH ANOTHER WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH!!!

You guys know how much I lurveeee Republican era crime thrillers whatever, so I bring y’all Psych Hunter! Set in the Republican era, this is a crime thriller thing that reminds me of 1. MRIAD A BIT with a quarter dose of 2. TLTR, and yes the best part of these three shows is the half bromance although it definitely isn’t AS pronounced here, but it certainly sweetens the deal of watching this.

Summary: Jiang Shuo is a feng shui master and real estate broker who can enter people’s psych (a bit like Sherlock’s mind palace, or maybe Inception-esque worlds in people’s consciousness), who gets arrested for real estate fraud across three people who died after buying the houses. He meets psychology expert and doctor Qin Yiheng, who is currently consulting with the police station on cases. There he also meets Yuan Muqing, a police officer who is great at martial arts. With his skill of ‘reading minds’ or actually ENTERING someone’s dream/mind scape, he can see what they’re trying to hide etc.

A year ago, Jiang Shuo woke up without any memories of who he was before, and he and his two new friends solve cases set in front of them by mastermind Liu Zhi (six fingers), as he also tries to get his memories back. 

*The official summary also mentions that he was one of 7 people who entered a haunted house of sorts and was the only one to come out alive before he was found with all his memories lost.

Based on a novel called 凶宅笔记.

Total Eps: 36 | Playing on iQiyi offiically, but available on other usual sites I think

Why I like this:

If you like Republican era shows, this is definitely another one for you!! Plus case-solving, albeit a little different than usual

This is canonically het, i.e. Jiang Shuo is supposed to end up with Yuan Muqing, but the harmless and fun bromance between Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng is quite hilarious and nice to see - They hold hands A LOT (out of necessity) hahaha and when Jiang Shuo jokingly told Qin Yiheng that he looks better without glasses, the man really dumps his glasses HAHAHA

Did I also mention that Jiang Shuo looks cute af, and Qin Yiheng for all his sternness and bravado is a baby - Anyway they’re pretty nice to look at, way handsomer than they look in the poster 

It has the same-ish setting as MRIAD, but the creepiness factor of TLTR every other episode, ERMMM a bit of The Nun vibes cuz there really is a nun in there for one of the cases, and zombies and weird shit (it’s a dreamscape so hahaha)

Cinematography/framing/shots aren’t half bad which I mean is actually pretty good, although they should work a tad bit on makeup and like props (a mirror was formed with aluminium foil YOU CAN LITERALLY SEE IT)

It’s not the most brilliant in terms of script or the cases, and some of the deductions made by QYH or the rest of the police force are, admittedly, pretty lame. But the focus I suppose is on the supernatural/inception part of it, which is pretty interesting. 

I also regretted watching this at night hmmm

Characters:

1. Jiang Shuo

Smartass feng shui expert and real estate broker. Carries a string of coins and bells everywhere he goes. Amnesiac bb who is a little hot-headed but very intelligent, obviously dislikes Qin Yiheng on first sight (even though they meet while QYH is trying to save him), but sort of affectionately calls him Qin Er (as in the second Qin son). Has already fainted twice in the first two episodes, and gotten hurt in the third, I LIKE HOW THIS IS GOING. There’s quite a bit of whump for him hahaha.

2. Qin Yiheng

He also went to Cambridge (against his dad’s wishes) and has an older brother. Is a doctor by degree and also psychologist by profession. Helping out with the police station now where he’s friends with the chief. He’s roped into this whole mess with Jiang Shuo for some reason by mastermind Liu Zhi as well, who has kidnapped his father. So in order to find out who Liu Zhi is and rescue his dad, he has to work together with Jiang Shuo. 

If you watch this for like his deduction skills, you’re totally out of luck tho, that’s not the point of this show (and frankly the deduction is a bit sad), but he’s rich, dresses well, has an air about him, and has chemistry with Jiang Shuo hahaha.

His side-eye and almost eye-roll whenever he deals with JS:

And yes Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng forever bickering, but Qin Yiheng has already rescued Jiang Shuo twice, and also sat by his bedside while waiting for Jiang Shuo to wake up - Also a lot of hand holding while they’re in the dreamscapes

3. Yuan Muqing

Aside from whoever chose to dub her and make her sound like a kid, her role in this one is pretty cute! Cool martial arts policewoman who crushes hard on Qin Yiheng first and then decides she actually likes Jiang Shuo more. Hot-headed too, but very likeable.

Anyway it’s a pretty light but thrilling show to watch so far!! Definitely not the most interesting in terms of cases, but the chemistry between the three characters above are pretty much on point! Plus the whole creepy factor and large conspiracy behind is definitely driving me to finish this. Banter between QYH and JS is great too hehe.

Days 36-39 (612 - 702)

Just made it to Kennedy meadows - officially done w the desert baby!! I’ve felt like a kid before Christmas these past few days.. desert has been awesome but getting here has been a huge goal//thing ive looked forward to since day 1. It feels incredible to be here and the drinks and burgers are already coming in hot haha.

And hiking in here has been super solid. We did two marathon days, a a chill day to hitch into ridgecrest and swoop some more food, and then another biggish day pulling up here. Feels good to push the legs a little. Yesterday was super goofy - we caught a ride into town and ended up hanging out w the guy who drove us for like 3 hrs while he fixed his brakes at his house. He’s an ex Hollywood actor and apparently was in Iron man and pretty little liars which was fun to hear about.. mainly just ate food and loitered in the big 5 messing around haha. I forgot my trekking poles in there so had to hitch back and ended up night hiking to catch up to the buddies. Was a great sunset and cool views leaving the mojave for the Sierra foothills tho and ended some super most memorable miles.

Today was basically a mad dash to get here. I was so stoked I woke up at 4:30 and got out of camp early to get moving ASAP. Halfwayish into the day I was thinking something along the lines of ok now it really feels like we’re out of the desert and then Mother Nature slapped me in the face haha.. I was walking on this slope and a fat rattle snake (like 5 ft long) started rattling out of nowhere right at the tip of my trekking pole. For context, usually they rattle 30ish ft away. I looked over and it was coiled up w it’s mouth open - I could actually see it’s fangs 👀 - and I tweaked out and jumped away. Unfortunately away was off the other side of the trail which was a 45 degree slope haha. I tumbled down like 20 ft but have no idea how I landed since my adrenaline was so high.. there’s a pic after this caption of the slope I fell down. One last desert moment out here I guess.

Pretty excited to chill out here for the night and all of tmr before going up imto the mountains! We’ve got our core squad but I’m also expecting to see buddies that are behind us pull up tmr and catch up. Big celebratory vibes - we earned it.

Her favourite thing to do was try on cute outfits, take selfies in them, and then not buy anything at all. It wasn’t like she could afford to buy any of the things she tried, anyway—she was a broke university student, barely scraping by weekly on nutritious meals of cup ramen.

His eyes had almost fallen out of his sockets. Had he just seen correctly? Or was his mind playing tricks on him? He wasn’t even entirely sure.

Reluctantly, he opened the message back up.

And confirmed, it was, indeed, not a mistake of his eyes. 

She had, in fact, just sent him a picture of her in underwear. (Very nice underwear, might he add! But also, what the fuck was going on here .)

Before he could even form some degree of coherent message in response to the picture, Rin had begun spamming him in a flurry of panic.

He raised an eyebrow at the messages, amused. So it was… an accident? How does one send a sexy selfie as an accident? How does one’s phone glitch to the degree of accidentally sending someone a sexy selfie? Had she been meaning to send it to someone else?

There were so many questions. 

Well, the good thing was that Len was definitely awake now.

Rin was crouching on the floor of the dressing room, half-naked and freaking out because he still hadn’t replied. But he had read all the messages. Oh god. What happens if he, like, posted the picture to some Facebook group to shame her? What if he used it for blackmail?

Was Len that sort of person? Did he like blackmail?

But before she could jump to any more conclusions, he’d responded with:

He was at school? Had he opened the message in front of everyone? Had everyone else seen her in the cute little frilly mermaid underwear with her unshaven legs and pot-belly from eating two servings of instant yakisoba for lunch????

Rin sunk further down onto the ground, clutching her head, texting back rapid-fire.

Rin buried her face into her knees, utterly humiliated . This wasn’t what she was expecting her boring Tuesday afternoon to be like. Maybe she should’ve just stayed home and studied like a good student.

She closed her phone and stood up, taking a breath to calm herself. At that moment, the dressing room assistant knocked on her door and asked, “Do you need any help?”

“I’m fine!” she croaked, scrambling to change into her next outfit. God forbid she let anyone else look at her body today.

Len couldn’t help but be a little disappointed at the fact that she’d stop replying after that last message.

Of course, it was normal , given that this was all apparently an accident , but he was hoping she’d send another picture or two.

That sounded dirty of him. But she was cute. And that first picture was—although very much a surprise—somewhat eye candy for him. Plus he was super bored. He still had another hour left of his lecture and his soul was slowly being leached from his body.

So, like the little disgusting man he was, he sent another message.

About a minute passed, before Rin responded with, What?

He internally winced. Was he really going to make himself sound like a major creep?

It was radio static silent from Rin. She’d read his message, but no answer. He waited about five minutes, before he put down his phone with a sigh and tried to tune into his class.

She’d probably blocked his number. With good reason.

Rin had stared at her phone for an incredibly long time, not sure how to respond to her classmate.

And yet. He had the audacity to ask for more.

She didn’t know whether to be mad or impressed. Madpressed, maybe.

So she left it to stew on, finished taking selfies of all the cute underwear in her naked glory, and went home very pensive. She thought very hard about it all on the bus, and glared hard at his little, stupid face in his icon on the message app.

Len was a good-looking guy. And , from the few conversations they had in class, he had a good sense of humour. And judging by his messages, he was also a cheeky asshole.

But she could’ve done worse. A whole lot worse. She could’ve sent that picture to her grandfather, or better yet, one of her creepy great uncles. Perhaps it was a good thing she’d sent it to some random (hot) guy from university.

Yeah.

So Rin decided to send the rest of her photos to him, and die gracefully in a puddle of shame. 

He’d already seen one, so he might as well see them all.

Len almost tripped and fell flat on his face when Rin suddenly bulk-sent five more pictures of her in various, adorable lingerie.

He wasn’t even in his lecture anymore. He was walking home, feeling sorry for his little perverted self, and the fact that he accidentally slept through the remainder of his class. How on earth was he even going to pass that class.

The blood rushing to his head (and to the south pole), he managed to type out a response that read a lot more underwhelmingly compared to what was really going on in his mind.

Was it something a girl wanted to read after sending multiple pictures of herself in a vulnerable state? No, probably not. But his brain had turned to mush and was starting to seep out of his ears. 

Rin wasn’t impressed.

Len fumbled for his dorm key, hands sweaty. Look, he was inexperienced. No one had ever sent him sexy pictures—or the equivalent of them, at least, whatever these were. He didn’t know how to handle it! Besides, she wasn’t even, like, a girl he was dating. He couldn’t just go full-mcCreep and tell her that he had a boner.

Rin blinked at his message, wondering why he was asking.

But she decided it was better not to ask. Maybe he had a girlfriend, or something. (Which, if he did, she would be incredibly pissed, because wouldn’t this classify as cheating? If he did, she was going to make sure he couldn’t walk straight ever again.)

She sent him back the store name. And left it there.

Rin stared at his messages. Why did he send that winky face. What did it mean. What did it mean.

She didn’t respond, just tossed her phone aside and flopped back against her couch. She’d find out soon enough if she’d regret her actions.

Come Thursday, Rin had all but mentally prepared for her encounter with Len.

He pulled out the chair beside her in their lecture hall, and she stiffened, reluctantly dragging her eyes up to meet his gaze.

“Morning,” he said, acting way too casual given the circumstances. He plopped a familiar bag down on the desk in front of her and winked. Winked.

She felt her breakfast come up a little as it dawned on her, with absolute horror, that the bag donned the logo of the exact same store she’d been trying on underwear in the other day.

“What… is this,” she asked, gesturing at the bag like it was a severed toe.

Len looked smug, resting his chin on his hand. “I don’t know. Take a peek.”

“You don’t know,” Rin muttered to herself, unconvinced. She leaned forward, peering into the bag, catching a glimpse of something the shade of lavender. Uhhhh. She’d seen that shade of lavender somewhere. On her body. In the dressing room.

Hm.

“I know what you’re thinking,” Len said, shifting his gaze away so that he was facing forward. “No, I don’t know your size. I guessed.”

She wanted to send her face forward into the surface of the desk. 

“But if it doesn’t fit,” he added, lips turning up into a smirk, “you can always take it in to swap it for your size. The receipt is in the bag.”

God. What on earth. What the even. What?

“Is this… are you going to like… blackmail me or something, or,” Rin spluttered, eyeing him with suspicion. “What are you going to have me do in return for… this? This brand isn’t… cheap.”

Len glanced back at her, shrugged his shoulders. “Well, you technically don’t have to do anything , but…” He licked his lips. What the fuck? Ew. Gross. “I wouldn’t mind some more pictures.”

She gawked at him, heat rushing to her cheeks. “ Re ally?” She didn’t trust him. She didn’t trust this pretty-faced man-boy at all. “So, you want to be my sugar daddy?”

He choked. After recovering from his coughing fit, he sat up straight, made direct eye-contact and said smoothly, “Yeah, if that’s how you want to see it.”

So, he gave her expensive lingerie. In exchange for. Pictures of her. In said lingerie.

Wow.

Rin wasn’t sure whether she was awake anymore, or just dreaming. Maybe she had passed out or something, and was having a fever dream. This was just too weird to even be real. She pinched her thigh under the desk, but nothing happened (alas).

“I mean, you could just go on a date with me instead, and maybe you’ll get to see the real thing,” her mouth said, without any mental input. It just came out. 

It was real clown hours in this Psychology lecture, huh.

Len’s mouth popped open. Then closed. Then opened again. “That could work, too.”

It was silent. No one knew how to handle this situation, apparently. They were both staring awkwardly at the bag of lingerie on the desk between them, like it might eat them at any moment.

Eventually, Rin’s hand reached out and snatched it off the desk, stuffing it down into her shoulder bag on the ground. She cleared her throat, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Well, I’ll try it on tonight and see how it fits.”

Len tried not to look too pleased. And failed. “Cool.” He hesitated, side-glancing her. “If it does… ”

“I’ll meet you at Crypton's at seven.”

He blinked, surprised, before leaning back in his seat and grinning with satisfaction. “Sounds good.”
