right so you're obviously mando royalty. the highest tier. the bestest ever. but, like, can you go on a deep dive as to why? what captivates you about this fic? why is it so important to you?
hmm that's an interesting one. i think some of it is just how much they love each other, how much lando looks after max and max looks after lando, how completely ride-or-die they are about each other in ways they're not at all selfconscious about. there's a depth of caring between them, as well as very profound understanding, that makes their connection very secure, very safe. despite their relative positions they are each other's most important people, in max's childhood bedroom or lando's monaco apartment.
their whole deal is very uncomplicated. they simply are max and lando. max can get in his head a little and the things it's over aren't irrational; he's clearly in a very different place in his life to lando and still working that out. but the geometry of that makes sense the second they're together or lando's arrived in chat to be a goblin, refusing to let max think he's left behind. it's the look lando gives max to make sure he laughed at his joke in videos, that maxy was there for it because he's who lando's performing for. it's the easy way they find each other, their ways back there not changed by the other stuff around them.
i have a very codependent relationship to my own best friend and there's probably a little projection. but the way max and lando are to each other is very specific, even within their friends groups. they are maxandlando, landoandmax and surely it's that they were a little bit interchangeable for awhile, physically speaking and they're the ones who got furthest in motorsport.
max has a very sweet, innocent personality and he wears his emotions very obviously. lando is pixieish and a little malicious but he also shows how he feels very clearly. together they can trust each other with that. their physical interactions are just as easy, whether it's random violence or the gentle little touches max uses to ground lando when they're filming with quadrant. the way max instinctively covered lando in that rally video. the way lando always has to be the closest to max like when pets compete to be the most up in your space.
they're both interesting guys, too. a dose of angst in both of them, from things that have happened (anthoine's death, lando's long stint alone in lockdown, max's career falling apart) and just the fact neither of them exist very comfortably in their own brains a lot of the time. max might be totally incapable of saying the word depression and i'm not sure lando would manage it either but sometimes getting out of bed isn't easy for them and having a friend who will deal with you when you can't deal with yourself is such a vital lifeline then.
mostly they are just strange little men. they're so closeted away from the world by racing - never had breakups until luisa, never been to concerts, never done half the normal things but they're also very grown up from being in the racing world. they're a little pragmatic, while both romantic and ridiculous because their lives are positioned variously in or adjacent to race cars but also, sure, they'll buy a ÂŁ35 paddling pool and eat maccies and leave notes about laundry.

Who is involved in screwing up the planet? You? Me? I don't think so. I would say the United States, DARPA and HAARP are most certainly involved. They just blame us. đ
Was the true purpose of building the pyramids to prevent the cyclical cataclysmic event described in the ancient texts? From Antarctica and the South Pole to Alaska close to the North Pole⊠(speculation time)
It is a well-established fact in geophysics that the strength of Earth's magnetic field, now over 35% weaker than it was 300 years ago, is declining at an increasingly rapid pace. Electromagnetic energy is a fundamental component of the Earth's magnetic field.
The movement of charged particles, such as electrons, in the Earth's magnetic field creates electric currents, which in turn generate magnetic fields. This process is known as electromagnetism.
The Earth's magnetic field interacts with electromagnetic energy in various ways. For example, the magnetic field plays a crucial role in shielding the Earth from the solar wind, which consists of charged particles emitted by the Sun. These particles would be harmful to life on Earth and could potentially disrupt electrical systems if they reached the surface without the protection of the magnetic field.
Some are predicting that the next catastrophic event will involve the disruption of electricity power, primarily attributing it to a potential hacker attack. But this might happen due to the weaker magnetic field and the solar flares. The hacker attack might be the cover up.
According to the censored book by the CIA âThe Adam And Eve Story The History Of Cataclysmsâ this leads to reducing the Earth's inner MHD (Magnetohydrodynamics) energy to such a low level that the shallow molten layer, which begins at a depth of 60 miles and extends to 120 miles, is able to function as a free liquid lubricating layer between the Earth's crust and solid interior.
Eventually, this process leads to a sudden 90-degree flip(Polar flip), resulting in widespread chaos and all hell breaks loose leading to the massive floods.
Now how is this connected to the pyramids?
In 2018 scientists published a paper about âElectromagnetic properties of the Great Pyramid: First multipole resonances and energy concentrationâ in the peer-reviewed scientific journal âJournal of Applied Physicsâ.
Researchers have proposed that the Great Pyramid possess electromagnetic resonance properties. This idea suggests that the pyramid's shape and composition interact with electromagnetic waves, potentially focusing or amplifying them. The geometry and structure of the Great Pyramid's influence how it interacts with electromagnetic waves. The pyramid's shape could cause scattering or diffraction of these waves, altering their behavior.
So, could it be that our advanced ancient ancestors built this technology to strengthen our magnetic field during periods of natural weakening, thus attempting to maintain a balance?
But technology can be used for both good and bad purposes, as we can see from its utilization in our militaries. Every new technology is initially employed for military purposes.
The biggest gatekeepers of the UAP/UFO phenomenon the US Navy, the US Air Force and DARPA have made a similar project in 1993 called HAARP. It is designed to investigate the properties and behavior of the ionosphere, which is a region of the Earth's upper atmosphere.
The radio waves used in HAARP are a form of electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves are a combination of electric and magnetic fields that propagate through space. They include a broad spectrum of waves, ranging from radio waves with low frequencies and long wavelengths to gamma rays with high frequencies and short wavelengths. HAARP operates in the high-frequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum.
HAARP utilizes a high-power, high-frequency transmitter array to emit radio waves into the ionosphere. These radio waves interact with the ionized particles in the ionosphere, creating artificial auroras and modifying the ionospheric properties.
So, how did these three crucial agencies involved in the UAP phenomenon decided to recreate a project that potentially resembles the function of the pyramids?
But now it gets interesting because this same technology can influence the behavior of the population, it can make them aggressive and less aggressive.
Tom DeLonge, Linda Moulton Howe, and other UAP researchers have discussed an alleged giant underground pyramid in Alaska that is purportedly still 'activated' and is believed to impact human consciousness. But if there is a pyramid in Alaska close to the North Pole, there is a pyramid in Antarctica on the South Pole further more adding to this crazy theoryâŠ
So, how can this technology influence our consciousness? If we read the ancient texts the last days before the catastrophic event are described as being filled with corruption, love for money, arrogance, disobedience, lack of self-control, wickedness, theft, and murder, which ultimately lead to God's judgment.
Two scientists at Hahnemann Medical College conducted an experiment with two groups of mice. One group was placed in aluminum cylinders under a magnetic field similar to our Earth's, while the other group experienced a magnetic field similar to being halfway between Earth and the Moon.
Both groups had the same physical environment, including food, lighting, play area, and water supply. After three months, the mice in the low-density cylinders experienced the same effects: their protein structure broke down, and more than 35% of them developed visible cancers throughout their bodies. Internal cancers were not analyzed. Also, the mice turned criminal (cannibalism, aggressiveness and rape) in their low-density magnetic field environment.
This was the conclusion of Chan Thomas (the author of âAdam and Eve Story) for the behavior: Lowered magnetic field environment could give its occupants a sense of impending doom. Certainly, there would be a feeling that something out of control was destroying them, so why not get what they want irrespective of consequences? In the case of humans, those without empathy turn criminal first in the case of animals, it is probably proper to assume that there is little or no empathy there to start with.
So, apparently this technology can be used to manipulate human behavior, but it also has the potential to save the planet from mass extinction. So, what happened? Why did the event occur again? Did the technology fail, or did the ancient 'elite'âthe ones flying the UFOs todayâuse it for a different purpose?
Remember the saying; "It's Not Nice to Fool With Mother Nature(Earth)" These people are playing God and they are horrible at it. Think about it. đ€

WORK! / October 9th
guys don't pay attention to the fact I said I was gonna post everyday and then didn't post yesterday, yesterday was TERRIBLEEE and should not be spoken about. so anyway today because of yesterday my day started like really bad. I was like CRYING IN GEOMETRY which is crazy. anyway then I didn't go to Spanish and instead I went to guidance and just sat. that's it I just sat and then after like 35 minutes my counselor came out of her room and saw me sitting and then got me to talk about my problem and then I felt a little better (ily Bushnell) and then I went too earth and space sciences and I did a lab it was ssuuuuper easy and I finished early and I got to go to the coffee shop for the first time!!!! I got a coldbrew (which I've never had before) and then I didn't know what to put into it so I grabbed 2 creamers and left and there was no sugar. and then I tried to take a sip with nothing in it and it was GROOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSUGHHHH and so I complained about it and I tried to put the creamers in and it helped a little but not a lot so then I went too health (now it gets juicy) I asked our teacher for some sugar and she HAD SOMEE and she was so nice and told me too take what i needed so I did but THEN she FINALLY had too move around our health class because they are SOOSOSOOSOS BAD!!!!! LIKE SOOOO BAD LIKE THEY NEVER SHUT THEIR MOUTHS!!! THEY ARE SO RUDE TOO HER AND I FEEL SOO BAD BECAUSE SHE IS SO NICE AND I LOVE HER SOO MUCH AND IT MAKES ME REALLY SAD! and then while she was moving kids around this girl got into a argument with her about the fact she split a table of buys apart but she moves them too the table next too the table they used to be so they where basically still right next to each other so it wasn't fair and they got into a fight basically and she called administration down and they came down and TOOK HER AWAY! there wasn't a physically altercation but it was still kinda entertaining but it wasn't funny actually It was really sad but anyway after that happened she gave the whole class a lecture (again) about literally basic respect and its actually been pissing me off so bad because like... its so not hard! like.. just respect your teacher?? just shut up? just do the incredibly easy work and listen? be ???????? NICE????? TO??? HER?!!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I'm like considering bringing her a donut or something because it actually insane what she has so deal with :( anyway after that I went to english and had to present which was SCARYYYYYYY but I did it and that's okay it was very good of me and I did well. and then I went too lunch and I had Mac and cheese and broccoli and "Texas toast" (garlic bread) and it was pretty yummy! I liked it! I also had a orange and chocolate milk. chocolate milk was as it always is, pretty good. but the orange.. I was so mad. the rind was like reallllyyyyy thick and it was really hard to open and it got all over my hands and then it WASNT EVEN GOOD. it was tangy. I was so mad I stomped my way over too the trash and THREW IT OUT! anyway and then I did my "tap dancing" and I walked around the class and we talked about trans stuff like we normally do, everytime I have lunch in there its like trans social hour./srs and then I had global and it was very good I love global I love my teacher sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much shes so great (I spend my lunch period, global and sometimes my study hall with her) and then after global I had her write me a pass too her planning/ study hall thing where only a couple of kids come and hang out and I just kinda sat there I did a little bit of work but not a lot and then I got on the bus and I talked too holly on the bus and then I got home and then i got the kids of the bus and then I LOCKED INNNn đ„I did soo much work! I don't even wanna get into it I like blacked out I was totally in the ZONE!!!!!1 and then I decided I needed to stop so I could sleep and now I'm in bed and typing this and now I'm gonna go to bed bye!

Why should every child experience learning in an Atal Tinkering Lab ?Â
In todayâs rapidly evolving world, the skills of tomorrow demand a foundation in creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. An Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) offers just that a space where students can dream, design, and discover. These labs, established under the Atal Innovation Mission by NITI Aayog, provide young minds with hands-on opportunities to explore and experiment with cutting-edge tools and technologies. Hereâs why every child deserves to learn in an ATL.Â
1. Cultivates Innovation from an Early AgeÂ
Children are naturally curious and imaginative. An ATL nurtures this curiosity by giving students the freedom to tinker and create. Whether itâs designing a robot or building a solar-powered car, these labs encourage kids to think outside the box and bring their ideas to life.Â
Fact:Â According to AIM, schools with ATLs report a 70% increase in student participation in STEM-related activities.Â
2. Promotes Hands-On LearningÂ
Unlike traditional classrooms that rely heavily on theoretical knowledge, ATLs emphasize practical, hands-on learning. This method makes learning enjoyable while enabling students to grasp complex concepts by applying them to real-world scenarios. For example:Â
Using a 3D printer to visualize geometry.Â
Creating a drone to understand physics and aerodynamics.Â
3. Develops Critical and Analytical ThinkingÂ
Working on projects in an ATL requires students to analyze problems and develop innovative solutions. This process strengthens critical thinking and analytical skills, which are essential for both academic and professional success.Â
Did You Know? A study by MIT found that hands-on STEM activities improve problem-solving skills by 35%.Â
4. Builds Teamwork and CollaborationÂ
ATLs are collaborative spaces where students work together on projects. This setting encourages collaboration, effective communication, and leadership development. Working in groups helps children value different perspectives and learn from one another.Â
5. Prepares Students for Future CareersÂ
As technology continues to reshape industries, skills in coding, robotics, and AI are becoming indispensable. An ATL equips students with these skills early on, preparing them for high-demand careers in fields like engineering, technology, and design.Â
Fact:Â The World Economic Forum has forecasted that by 2025, 85 million jobs will demand expertise in STEM fields.Â
6. Inspires a Love for Lifelong LearningÂ
ATL experiences ignite a passion for learning by making education engaging and relevant. Students who experiment, fail, and try again develop resilience and a growth mindsetâqualities that will serve them well throughout life.Â
7. Encourages Social ResponsibilityÂ
Through ATLs, students often work on projects that address real-world problems like pollution, energy efficiency, and accessibility. This instills a sense of social responsibility and motivates children to use their skills for the betterment of society.Â
Success Stories from ATLsÂ
Many students across India have created remarkable innovations through ATLs:Â
Aryan Mishra, a Class 9 student, developed a water-purification system using low-cost materials.Â
Nidhi Sharma and her team designed a robotic arm to assist people with disabilities.Â
These stories highlight how ATLs empower students to make a difference.Â
Take the first step toward building future innovators!Â
Every child deserves the chance to innovate, create, and explore their potential. By introducing Atal Tinkering Labs in schools, we pave the way for a brighter, more innovative future. If your school doesnât have an ATL yet, itâs time to take action. Visit the Atal Innovation Mission website to learn how to bring this transformative initiative to your school. Letâs inspire the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change-makers!Â

The "Standardization" Policy of combat aircraft used in the United States Armed Forces
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/27/2022 - 8:00 PM in History, Military
The standardization in relation to the model of combat aircraft to be acquired, together, by the three branches that simultaneously employ this type of equipment (the American Air Force - USAF; the Navy - US Navy; and the Marine Corps - USMC) has historically always been a (difficult) goal to be pursued.
Although there is no completely multipurpose aircraft (as it has been proven with the relative disaster regarding the attempt to produce, in Europe, a "Multirole Combat Aircraft - MRCA" that gave rise to the Tornado), at least a necessary standardization (for equivalent missions) is sought between the different operators of the aircraft.
PANAVIA Tornado, which was born from the European MRCA project.
This time, using the same military aircraft concomitantly in the three forces means an indisputable economy of scale (reducing the final unit cost of each aircraft and maintenance), also representing a greater efficiency in the stock of spare parts, training of pilots and ground teams, among other numerous advantages.
The difficulty, however, lies in the fact that it is very difficult to make the same aircraft (and, therefore, a single aeronautical project) able (albeit with some adaptations) to meet (fully) the operational requirements of each force, fulfilling, with maximum efficiency, the different parameters (and the very expectations of combative performance) required by the air force, marine on board (
One of the greatest icons of hunting aviation, the venerable McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, was one of the "standard" aircraft (although in different versions) used by the three main branches of the American armed forces (photos above).
The same can be said, - despite all the numerous criticisms -, in relation to the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II project, which, employed in specific versions (F-35A in USAF; F-35B, with V/STOL capacity, in the USMC; and F-35C, with reinforced landing gear and other specificities, in the Navy), has been promoting a different (and customized) versions.
The Joint Strike Fighter project and its three variants of the F-35.
However, in the late 1960s, with the failure of General Dynamics F-111 (simply refused by the embed Navy, in its naval version F-111B, despite the production and delivery of more than five hundred units, in different versions, to the USAF), the Pentagon issued orders for the achievement of two ambitious projects: a fighter of air superiority (to serve
F-111B in tests with the US Navy.
F-111F of the US Air Force.
The original idea would be for a single aircraft (winning a cost and performance competition) of each class to be selected for all branches of the US armed forces.
In the first category, although the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle made its first flight only in 1972 (practically two years after the Grumman F-14 Tomcat), there was, without much effort, its primacy over the opponent, since it would gain superior performance (maximum speed of Mach 2.5 and thrust-weight ratio of 1:1 compared to the Tomcat, with maximum speed of Mach
An F-14 and an F-15 escort a Russian Tu-95.
The advanced (and innovative) wing technology (designed on the structure of a prehistoric bird) also gave the F-15 a much more advanced design on Grumman's (less innovative) solution, which adopted in the F-14 wings of variable geometry (already experienced in its previous design, the F-111), with its complex corresponding system, implying a much more expensive maintenance and also Still, a political decision (avoiding the possible bankruptcy of Grumman, which was, in the certainty of producing, - employing the previous experience of the F-111 of General Dynamics, an unparalleled fighter -, invested own money, far beyond the resources made available for the development of the aircraft) was conveniently transformed into technical arguments:
âThe U.S. Navy's effort to replace the F-4 Phantom II was tortuous. The F-111B, with its weight that kept increasing and excessive complexity, failed, and, in the early 1970s, its possible successor, the nascent F-14, was also facing problems. (...)
Conceptual art of the F-15N "Seagull".
McDonnell Douglas entered the scene offering the F-15N, based on its F-15A, which, at the time, had not even flown yet. It had a lot in his favor, being a simpler design than the F-14, with better engines (...), in addition to better performance and price. However, technical issues were conveniently raised, such as adding a heavy naval landing gear, folding wings to occupy less space on the deck (...)â (McDonnell Douglas F-15: The Others)
Navy authorities themselves also saw in the Eagle a higher pilotage and did not wish to have a less capable fighter than the one that would enter service in the Air Force.
The solution came with the development of a long-range missile derived from the AIM-47 Falcon (originally designed for the Lockheed YF-12 interceptor) and which gave rise to the very modern AIM-54 Phoenix, which, coupled with a powerful AN/AWG-9 target acquisition radar, would become a weapon system that would allow it to match, in the end, the performance of
Still, McDonnell Douglas insisted on a version called Sea Eagle, which, using the same system, would turn the F-15A into an unparalleled naval fighter, with McDonnell Douglas engineers proposing to discard the F-14A's AN/AWG-9 radar in exchange for a modified version of the F-15A radar AN/APG-63, adjusted to work with the Phoenix missile However, the Navy was compelled to move forward with Tomcat.
Later, the fact that Russians and Chinese subsequently successfully adapted the Flanker to the structure of an aircraft carrier clearly demonstrates that the concept of the Sea Eagle was unequivocally superior to the F-14A platform.
In the LWF (Lightweight Fighter) program, two models also competed, the General Dynamics YF-16 Fighting Falcon and the Northrop YF-17 Cobra.
The fighters of the LWF, YF-16 and YF-17 program.
The General Dynamics project quickly showed its technical superiority (and economy, since it used the same engines as the F-15A Eagle: the Pratt & Whitney F100), including winning international competition for part of NATO countries, the so-called "Contract of the Century" in 1974, allowing the USAF to also adopt it immediately.
However, the Navy (and, in part, the Marine Corps), claiming the General Dynamics aircraft to be single-engine, defended the point of view that it did not meet the safety requirements for employment in aircraft carriers. The argument was not new and, in many ways, was also poor, since the Navy had already been using aircraft equipped with a single engine, such as the Vought F-8 Crusader, the Vought A-7 Corsair and the McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, among others.
Prototype of the F-18 Hornet.
Once again, in the face of the clear inferiority of performance of the YF-17 Cobra, it was opted for an expensive "third option", through the development of a new platform, based on the Cobra, which gave rise to the McDonnell Douglas F-18A Hornet (and, later, its more capable version F-18E/F Super Hornet). Such absence of standardization was calculated, in values of the time, in a loss to the Pentagon of more than US$ 1 billion only with regard to the amount of the acquisition cost of the aircraft.
The policy of standardization of equipment between the operating forces, therefore, is an orientation that imposes itself, and it is also certain that the complementation of more complex and sophisticated fighters by simpler and more economical models (both in terms of acquisition cost and maintenance and operational availability).
It is also a natural determination for all the armed forces in the world, which is why the USAF pursued, for the 21st century, two different 5th generation (Stealth) fighter fighters, the sophisticated and most capable Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor in combination with the simplest and least expensive Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, being copied, in this policy,

I want to do full review of Hellpoint but for now:
I like this game a lot and I do recommend it, especially if you enjoy Dark Souls-type of games!
The world is pretty expansive and gives the player a fair bit of choice when exploring for different areas. The areas even loop back to previous biomes you been through. The levels look pretty solid too, and the atmosphere is really nice for invoking some spookiness or awe feelings. There are loading screens between biomes unfortunately, but I cut the devs slack on that one.
Combat offers a lot of weapons and chip choices for your weapons to give you a lot of freedom. The weapons themselves can be leveled up for more perks and special skills even and the chips can be leveled up for more damage. The game DOES force you to use a melee weapon, since melee strikes are the only way to gain back energy(which basically magic) and your health charges for your healing item. In way its kinda like in Hollowknight, which I do enjoy.Â
That being said it is a much easier game than most imo. Guns do feel a bit stronger than they should and leveling up chips can give you some nasty damage for little cost. Breaches(this gameâs bonfire) heal you and do not respawn enemies. This is âkindaâ balanced out by the fact they do not refill your energy health charges. Enemies do respawn if enough time passes or if you go into new area, so you would have to inevitably complete area or refight the enemies again.
Speaking of enemies, there really is not a big enough variety imo. It is especially bad with bosses, most of the bosses you fight are bigger versions of the same enemies you face throughout the game with maybe additional attacks. I am really not a fan, I can understand why, but I wish they would at least give them altered models.
The game is also kinda buggy. Most of the time its just going to be your raggdoll spazzing out on death, getting kinda caught in geometry or an enemy spinning in place. There was a more serious one where I got locked out from doing a specific ending due to an npc just respawning back into his original space, restarting the whole quest again. Not to mention that there is a skill that just does not seemingly work at all.
Also you canât customize your characterâs face for some reason. That COULD be lore reason, but not being able to customized your character in a souls style game with multiplayer in it feels so wrong.Â
Despite all that, I do feel that most of the combat, flexibility of weapons, and overrall world design is pretty great still. Especially for the price 35 USD on Steam and GoG. I personally think its worth it, but its totally fair to wait on sale.
Thereâs also demo of it called âHellpoint: The Thespianâs Feastâ on both sites. Yes, it IS a sequel in a sense, but its more of a new character investigating saying, âWhat happened here?â while the main game shows âWhat happenedâ. I think the demo does decent job at what to expect from the game, minus the multiplayer stuff such as messages.
So, play Hellpoint!

Damian wasnât a fan of New Years. It shouldnât mean anything- he knew that. It was just another random day; the fact that people liked to put special significance on it didnât actually do anything.
But all the talk of new times got into his head, made him think. It made him think about how many things had changed- the friends he had lost, the goals he had once held dear now thrown away. It made him think about how little he had grown- the bitterness he held onto, the stagnation that had settled across him. He was in his third year of grad-school; soon he would be shoved out into the real world with no academic purpose to shelter him.
âNew Year, New Me.â Damian didnât even know who he was.
If there was one thing he hated more than New Years, it was New Years parties. He would go so far as to say the things were the bane of his existence. The music was bad, people got loud and overly exuberant, and strobe lights were used were used far more than ever reasonable. Alcohol always floated around with disturbing prevalence. He hated how fuzzy it made his head- throwing off his balance and slowing his thoughts- but at least it made the party easier to handle.
Damian threw back a shot of cheap, bight blue tequila and winced as it hit the back of his throat. Disgusting. Just because he was trying to get drunk didnât mean he lacked class.
He set the glass down on a table behind him so he could pretend he hadnât touched the repulsive thing. He was sitting on a sofa tucked against the back corner of a living room in a house he had never been to before. Next to him, someone was already passed out. They would be starting their new year with a killer hangover.
Across the room, he could see the friends who had dragged him to the houseparty. Roman and Patton were dancing in a crowd of other students, broad grins painted across both of their faces. At least they were happy.
A young man weaved his way through the crowd and threw himself onto the sofa next to Damian with a mixture of disdain and defeat. Damian had seen him around a few times; they had a philosophy class together the last semester. What was his name? Lucas? Landon? Bradon?
âHey,â Lu-nd-on elbowed him in the side, âYou want some champagne?â
Damian raised an eyebrow as he turned to face the man, âExcuse me?â
He pulled a bottle of champagne from somewhere in his coat. The gold foil at the top was already ripped away and he popped the cork off with ease, taking a swig before offering it.
Damian tried not to stare incredulously, but it was a difficult task when his brain was short-circuiting, âDid you just drink out of a champagne bottle like it was a beer?â
âSure. Why not.â
Damian reached out hesitantly to take the bottle. He was beginning to doubt that this actually was the guy he had shared a class with. That one looked like the type who wouldnât have been caught dead at a party. The only similarity was the way they dressed- round wireframe glasses, a corduroy jacket over a black button down, and black skinny jeans. His hair- dark brown and pulled into a long ponytail- was the same too.
âDid- did we have a class together?â He took a drink. It was good- expensively good.
âHistorical philosophy. You probably donât remember me- my nameâs Logan. Youâre Damian, right?â
âYep. I hear Iâm kind of hard to forget,â Damian waved his hand at the dark red birthmark that stretched messily across the left side of his face.
âNo. Well, yes. That is, I remember you for a different reason.â
Logan stared at him like he was supposed to understand what that meant. Damian stared back, hoping to convey the fact that he, in no way, understood what was going on.
âSo, uh,â Damian searched for something to keep the conversation going, âcan I ask about the champagne?â
âYouâre asking why I have it?â
Damian nodded, âI am, yeah. Also why you pulled it out of your jacket?â
âAs for the first question: people seem to have made a tradition out of getting wasted on New Years Eve and I decided to join them this year.â
Damian had never heard someone speak so matter of factly about getting drunk. He shook his head, laughing, âSo you bought an entire bottle of champagne? There are easier methods, you know that right?â
âIf youâre referring to the blue monstrosity everyone keeps offering, please know that Iâm not a heathen.â
âOh, so you tried one of those awful things too?â
Logan rolled his eyes with a ruthful smile, âI may have made that mistake.â
Damian handed the bottle back to Logan who took another drink before locking his gaze on Damianâs eyes. He stared like there was a problem in them and he just couldnât figure out how to solve it. Damian was used to people staring, but not like this. Usually, they would take one look at him and their eyes would glaze over. Whatever the conversation might be, they would always be partially focused on the splatters some god had painted on his face long before he had a say in the matter. It wasnât that Damian disliked his birthmark. He just hated the way people always saw it instead of him.
But Logan. He was looking at him. Into him, through him. He had no idea what to do with that.
Damian laughed nervously, âWhat are you looking at?â
Logan cleared his throat and stared out into the crowd, âAnyways I had it in my jacket because these people are all animals and Iâd prefer they didnât rob me of my 35 dollar champagne.â
Logan had handed him the bottle back and Damian choked on the mouthful he had been trying to drink, âIâm sorry, what? So let me get this right: you bought a champagne bottle which is worth more than I usually spend on food for a week. And now you are sharing it with me of all people?â
âWhy not you of all people?â
Logan was staring at him again like answers to all of these riddles were obvious.
Damian blinked back, feeling more lost than he had in years. Even that stupid Advanced Geometry course he had decided to take in his freshman year hadnât screwed him over this badly. Maybe the alcohol was finally getting to him. It would explain why he couldnât hold a single coherent thought and why he was so hypnotized by the pale freckles that dusted Loganâs nose and cheekbones. They were so light they nearly melted into his skin and seemed to be phasing in and out off existence as the dim lighting played against Loganâs face. He had never noticed them before. Then again, he had never gotten this close before. It was a shame; Logan was mesmerizing. Damian wished he could get closer.
âSo what are you going to do after we get out of here?â
It took Damian a moment to realize Logan was asking about a career and not what he would be doing after the party once they left- apparently together. That would have been strange; it was weird his brain even jumped to that conclusion. Â Maybe he should stop drinking that damn champagne.
He sighed as his mind returned to the actual question. He wanted to make something up, hide behind a lie of certainty and determination. But it was too much work to weave that fabrication together. Especially on the spot. Especially with how his head was feeling. Especially in front of Logan. He hung his head, âHonestly I have no clue. Iâve always been interested in social sciences but beyond that... no plan, no clue.â
A beat of silence played out between them. Â
âSo what about you?â The forced brightness in his voice tasted fake and bitter in his mouth.
âI want to teach sciences,â Loganâs eyes glittered.
âA college professor, huh? I could definitely see it,â Logan handed him the bottle and Damian threw yet another swallow back. Didnât he say he was going to stop?
âHigh school level, actually.â
âReally? That doesnât seem-â Damian pointed at the champagne bottle in an attempt to remind Logan of what a bougie, extra bitch he was, â -sophisticated enough for you.â
Logan shrugged, âI kind of have a fascination with high schoolers-â
âOk, thatâs creepy.â
âNot like that! I mean the culture, the slang, the way itâs its own little society interacting within a larger one!â Loganâs face had split into a grin as he talked, waving his hands excitedly.
Damian didnât even resist urge to smile back. Seeing Logan like this, well, there was something contagious about it. He couldnât help but feel slightly in awe of the passion he saw in Logan, âYou really like this stuff, donât you?â
Logan nodded vigorously, âDo you know the new word high schoolers today have invented and are using?â
âHmm?â Damian prompted. Anything to keep Logan talking like this. Damian wasnât sure why he wanted to keep Logan talking. It had something to do with the way warmth was spreading out from his core in a way that was far gentler than anything drinks could do.
âYeet.â
In the adjoining room Damian could see two groups standing on opposite tables chanting âYeet, Yeet, Yeet, Yeetâ as they tossed a smaller student (who looked like they were having the time of their life) back and forth.
âUhh, I think college kids use that too,â Damian didnât want to burst Loganâs bubble but he felt like he was losing his mind. At any moment he was going to start cackling.
Logan paused, giving him a pointed stare, âMaybe you do.â
Damian broke. He collapsed forward, glad he had handed the bottle back as he wrapped his arms around his shaking body. He could hardly breathe but he couldnât stop laughing either. His head was light and buzzing warmly. It wasnât necessarily a bad feeling, but as tears started streaming out of his eyes, he knew he was officially drunk. Who gave a shit? That had been his goal, right?
He fell all the way down, letting his head land on Loganâs knee. He still couldnât stop laughing even though it had developed solely into wheezes at that point.
Damian felt a hesitant hand tap on his back before actually settling there, âAre you ok?â
Damian sat up and wiped away the tears that had gathered at the corners of his eyes, âBro, youâre so judgmental.â
Loganâs face shifted from concern into a scowl, âOh. Sorry.â
The heavy bass of whatever song was playing took over the space between them. Damian kept thinking about destroying that gap. All he would have to do would be lean over, rest himself against Logan, maybe fall asleep. Maybe it was the overpriced buzz in his head talking, but he felt safe around Logan.
Out of the blue, Logan stood up, adjusting the hem of his jacket as he turned to face Damian, âWell, I wonât be bothering you anymore. Maybe Iâll see you around campus sometime. You can finish that if you want.â
Damian looked down by his feet where Logan was pointing to the champagne bottle, âWait, I donât understand. Youâre leaving? Where?â
Logan glanced around, looking anywhere but Damianâs face. Damian was used to that but this felt different. Logan was different. At least under usual circumstances, he knew why people so adamantly refused to acknowledge his existence. He made them uncomfortable; he didnât like it, but he got it. Here, he was absolutely clueless.
Logan finally managed to make eye contact. He was trying for a smile but as an expert liar, Damian could see straight through to the grimace beneath, âOh, Iâm sure Iâll find someone else who will tolerate my presence for a few moments.â
âHey,â Damian acted on impulse. After all, Loganâs hand was just hanging there. It was far too empty. And at the moment, reaching forward to grab Loganâs wrist was Damianâs only way to insure that Logan wouldnât walk away. He knew Logan was a smart guy and would probably see his honeyed whines as deception, but he had to try, âYouâre really just going to get me drunk and then ditch me? Who knows what could happen?â
Loganâs eyebrows creased but he didnât say anything. He looked like he was in pain, eyes sharp and teeth clenched behind a grimace. It was enough to make Damian drop his hand.
âLogan, itâs entirely your choice but if you would like to stay with me, I would enjoy that very much,â Truth wasnât his strong suit, but he figured it was worth a try.
Logan squinted at him, confused or at least doubtful, âI thought you disliked my judgmental attitude.â
Damian groaned, âDude... I didnât mean it like that. I thought it was funny. I think youâre funny.â
âOh,â Logan looked like he was having a hard time processing Damianâs words. It made him wonder just how many of those tequila shots Logan had thrown back before walking over. He had to be drunk. It was the only way to explain why he was acting so strange.
Damian reached out again and slowly pulled Logan back. He was hesitant but didnât resist. Logan sat down next to Damian as if he didnât understand his own actions. His eyes picked Damian apart like he was looking for the fine print.
âYouâre sure you donât mind me?â Loganâs expression was completely open. He was looking for the truth and Damian didnât think heâd be able to lie if he wanted to. It was a good thing he didnât need to.
He smiled, âYeah, Iâm sure.â
âOh. Ok,â Logan settled back into the couch but his eyebrows were still weaved together. Apparently his programs finished running because he suddenly turned to Damian, grinning brightly, âIâm glad.â
Damian smiled back. He was happy to see Logan with that sparkle back, if a little confused as to how he had caused it, âYouâre glad... I donât mind you?â
Logan nodded, âSome people think Iâm a little strange.â
âYeah, I get that,â Damian winced and tried to rush out his next words, âNot, like, I think youâre strange- I think youâre really cool. I just mean people think Iâm strange too.â
Damian swore he could map constellations in the stars floating in Loganâs eyes, âYou think Iâm cool?â
He shrugged, âI mean, yeah. You always seem to have it all together and you have determination and goals and itâs so obvious that youâre going to reach them. That passion is rare to see any more. I mean, I donât have any of that. You donât know how much I looked up to you in that class.â
Logan blinked at him like a deer in headlights for a moment before he began frowning, âBut youâre incorrect.â
Damian looked up from where had been trying to see how much champagne was left in the bottle, âWhat do you mean?â
âYou obviously have passion. You always had points to bring up during discussions and it was clear you had deep interest in the topics. You donât know how in awe of you I was. You always found the least likely angle to take and still managed to make a convincing argument,â Logan took the bottle out of Damianâs frozen hands and took a drink, âIt was art.â
Damian opened his mouth but all memory of speech had escape him. He looked away, trying to find something safe to stare at while he tried to gather his thoughts. His head was full of fragments, dulled glass shards that floated through fog and bumped against the edges of his mind. It hurt to try to put them all back together into one piece.
So Logan had noticed him in that class. And had remembered him; quite clearly it seemed. Except the way he was talking... nobody had ever spoken to Damian that way before. He was tempted to ask Logan if he had mistaken him for someone else.
He found his eyes wandering down to the space between them. More accurately, he was staring at how little space there was between them. When Logan had sat down the second time, he had done so right next to Damian. Like, right next to him. Now their legs were pressed together, hips and knees bumping together every time one of them shifted. Damian marveled at the fact that he hadnât noticed before.
âDamian?â He looked up into Loganâs concerned face. God, they were so close, âAre you ok? Your eyes kinda glazed over.â
Damian laughed. It sounded breathy and far away, âYeah, Iâm good.â
From another room, someone started yelling, âLAST 15 MINUTES OF THE YEAR!!â
Logan squinted down at his watch before glaring in the direction of the voice, âThereâs only five minutes left.â
Damian chuckled, watching the lines of Loganâs frown as he grimaced at the sea of people around them. There was something endearing about the blunt disdain Logan had for the idiots around them. It was nice to know he didnât fit into that group, that he had- by some miracle- managed to fit into Loganâs bubble.
âSo... you usually celebrate New Years like this?â Logan had suddenly become quite fidgety, wringing his hands in his lap. Damian tried to ignore it. He was having a hard enough time working on his own thoughts; he couldnât even begin picking apart Loganâs thoughts.
Damian shook his head, âYou mean a party? Nah, I usually donât even celebrate. What about you?â
âSame. I donât generally go to parties at all.â
Ah, so Damianâs original impression had been correct, âSo what are you doing here?â
âI could ask you the same thing,â Logan deftly avoided the question with a smirk. Damn, he was good at this.
Damian rolled his eyes, âSome friends dragged me here. Now you tell me what a straight-laced nerd like you is doing in a place like this.â
Logan snorted, âDonât remember the last time anyone described me as straight- anything.â
âWhat?â
âWhat?â
Damian wanted to shake his head like a dog getting out of water. Maybe then, the pieces would fall into some sort of pattern he could recognize. So Logan wasnât straight. Why did that make him so happy?
He ran his hands through his hair and tried to gain some composure, âOk, so what is someone like you doing in a place like this?â
Logan looked out across the crowd, his mouth a tight line. On the other side of the room someone took a running start and flung themselves on a pool table that had currently been in use. The thing cracked in half. Â
âI was-,â Logan paused, hands tapping quickly against his leg, â-convinced.â
Damian raised an eyebrow, âIâve never heard someone talk so ominously about going to a party; what is that even supposed to mean?â
Logan winced. His hands were doing full cardio now, clenching into fists over and over again, âI was told someone was going to be here. I just really wanted the chance to talk to him again.â
âBut youâve only talked to me.â
âYes,â Logan gave him that stare again like Come on, dude, the puzzle pieces are right there- just put them together. He rubbed his eyes in his hands, âMaybe this was a mistake. I didnât mean to get you drunk. I thought youâd still be able to figure out-â
Click.
Damianâs mouth fell, âWait, Iâm the one you wanted to talk to?â
Logan gave him a small smile. It was the first time Damian had seen him look unsure of himself, âWell, yeah.â
âOh,â Damianâs head was swimming. He could have blamed it on the champagne or how late it was or the way the lighting had began strobing, flickering between bright neon shades. But he knew that wasnât it. He couldnât lie this time- not even to himself.
Loganâs eyes were wide, staring into Damian. Not into his eyes- him. It was unnerving in the best way possible. The shifting light played across his irises, making them every colour of the rainbow.
âIs that ok?â
Loganâs voice startled him back to the present. He had leaned forward, supposedly to be heard above the shouting that had started. Amongst all of the raised voices, Loganâs had only gotten lower. His breath played against Damianâs ear.
Damian looked up, startled slightly but smiling, âYeah, yeah, thatâs good. Thatâs great.â
Logan smiled, âYeah? Great?â
He was definitely leaning forward.
Damian huffed out a sigh but smiled even wider, âShut up. Iâm pretty sure youâre drunk.â
Logan scoffed, âAnd youâre not? Youâre a total lightweight.â
âShut up.â
âTEN!â
The entire house shook as the ridiculous number of students began screaming in unison
âYou know, itâs also tradition to kiss someone on New Years,â Logan looked infuriatingly smug.
âNINE!â
Damian usually hated this part, everyone around him creating one huge voice- everyone but him.
Damian raised an eyebrow, âAre you asking to kiss me?â
âEIGHT!â
What he always hated most was the way the entire world seemed to be celebrating- without him. The whole damn planet filled with joy for one tiny moment and he could never figure out why.
Logan smiled like the Cheshire Cat- except the Cheshire Cat had just won the lottery, âMaybe.â
âSEVEN!â
At this point, his heart rate usually would have been spiking, feeling the pressure of ânew opportunitiesâ pressing all their expectant eyes on him.
Damian laughed, âDid you come over to talk to me just so you could get a kiss tonight?â
âSIX!â
There was always a part of Damian that would scorn him for not being happy, question why he had turned out to be such a sad, useless lump while everyone else was happily looking forward to the future.
âNo,â Logan set his jaw like a stubborn toddler, âI came over here to talk to you so I could get a kiss from you tonight.â
âFIVE!â
No matter what he did, the New Year would plague him. His whole apartment complex would rattle as chanting counted down. The first hours of the year would often find Damian wandering through empty streets, desperate to escape the celebration.
Logan slid his hand onto Damianâs knee, âSo can I? Kiss you?â
âFOUR!â
The whole event was just one monstrous reminder. It was an ugly mar on the calendar that whispered Look at all the things youâve ruined. Look at how far youâve fallen. Look at how little your future holds.
Damian nodded dumbly. His heart was pounding in his ears.
âTHREE!â
New Year made him think of his parents. He always put on a bright mask for them, feeding them lies of empty aspirations and opportunities that didnât exist. How would they feel to know their son was barreling headfirst into a dead end?
Damian was learning he didnât need alcohol; Logan was intoxicating enough. The shine in his eyes, the self-satisfied tug to his lips, the way he kept getting closer and closer- it made Damianâs thoughts slow to a halt and everything around him lose focus.
âTWO!â
Every year, the day after would be exactly like the day before. Everyone else seemed to be determined to make themselves better. As much as he searched, Damian could never find the ways to change. New Years was usually taunting, reminding him that he would always be broken and would never be able to fix himself.
Loganâs hands played across his chest, smoothed over his shoulder, ran through his hair. His eyes found Damianâs soul. Damian couldnât remember how to breathe.
âONE!!â
Damian had always hated New Years.
Logan leaned all the way forward and his lips were on Damianâs. It was deeper than Damian was expecting, both of their mouths slightly open. Logan kept surging forward with his whole body, destroying the few inches left between them. Damian happily followed his lead, mindlessly falling into synchronous rhythm as Logan kept moving his lips. Except it wasnât just his lips; Logan kissed with his whole body. He leaned against Damian and his hands were always roaming, leaving little touches as they danced over Damianâs body.
Sure, Damian had kissed other guys before. But he was pretty sure this was the first time anyone had kissed him.
One of Loganâs hands found its way to Damianâs face. His fingers tapped lightly across his birthmark. Damian remembered the kids who stared without shame, the eyes that would dart away as soon as they saw him, the way he could never hold a conversation without his birthmark joining as an unwanted guest star. Logan hadnât done any of that. Damian had no words to describe what that man was but he liked it.
Damian broke away, completely out of breath. He had no idea how long they had been kissing- it could have been hours for all he knew- but his lungs didnât have the same luxury of losing track.
Loganâs chest was heaving as it pressed against Damianâs side. His eyes were wide and glazed, staring a million miles away.
âHey, Logan?â
Loganâs eyes regained their sharp focus. He smiled brightly, âIâve been wanting to do that for a while now.â
âYouâre a dork. But really,â Damian sighed, âthank you.â
Logan gave him a puzzled smile, âWhat for?â
âIâm pretty sure this is the first New Year Iâve ever actually enjoyed,â Damian snuggled himself closer to Logan, smiling when he felt an arm wrap around his shoulders.
Logan spoke with measured, careful words, âIf you like, we could, you know, make our own New Years tradition out of this.â
Damian could feel his eyelids falling and rising every time he blinked like the great velvet currents of a theatre. They were heavy and he was warm and his head was a vague haze. He yawned widely and wrapped his arms around Loganâs waist, âI donât think we have to wait until New Year to do this again.â
He fell asleep listening to Logan stuttering out some happy response. Maybe New Years wasnât so bad.

stories from the tmacraft vault: the actual stranger (not the podcast one)
we have a java minecraft server, this much is clear. it had been open for a few months using a third party hosting service, until several severe issues regarding backups and the lack of them caused us to lose massive amounts of work. eventually we decided to switch to a new service, and until we could get our old server data back, we would play on an interim server. we went with a skyblock preset, and played there for a month.
after so long away from magcraft that I literally dreamed about it, our server was open again, with a new ip address - the same one as we used for skyblock. its important to note that we didnt have a whitelist at the time, and shared our in game names in a discord channel as a courtesy.
and then, on the evening of August 6, 2020, at 7:25 PM EST, zia sends the fateful message.
a person we didnt know had logged onto our minecraft server, asked who we were, and said "yall got discord?". Gary, ever polite and kind, told the stranger we were from the tmacraft discord, and the stranger asked for an invite code. upon further questioning, the stranger revealed this server "used to be [theirs]". they then disconnected, after only a few minutes.
our server has two admins, sphor and quin. unfortunately for us, sphor was expected to be busy until 9 PM EST, and quin was unable to access minecraft due to being on data at the time. however, on discord, quin encouraged players to tell the stranger to leave.
at 7:28 pm est, the stranger returned, despite us trying to make it clear the first time around that they weren't welcome. the second visit consisted of them mostly wandering around the shopping district (which is centered around spawn). we took the opportunity to ask why they were here. they explained they used to have this server, and when asked why they were there, they said they "didnt know" and that they just wanted to look at their old minecraft worlds. upon questioning they denied having a twitter or tumblr account, but reiterated that they had and used discord. in the shopping district, the stranger found our beloved slime ur mom, and the valiant hero gary bonked them away with an enchanted stick, prompting the poetic response of "bruh". then the stranger got launched into the vast thousands of blocks in the sky.
it was at this point we decided to have some fun with it, even if it was discomforting. coomo tried to recruit the stranger into the spiral. more weird stuff happened, including the stranger having connectivity issues and mentioning this to us casually as if we were all friends, and by 7:50 pm EST, the stranger had logged out.
dot happened to see where the stranger logged out - an spot in the shopping district - and genesis and sel decided to camp the location with good gear, in the event the stranger returned. after a while of waiting, they - along with the other players online, including octo, zia, coomo, gary, steph, and soozu - got bored, and a bored magcrafter is a dangerous thing.
we decided to intimidate the stranger into not returning, in the event they returned before admin intervention. gary and zia sent the ground in the area on fire; gary added eerie noteblocks underground that could be triggered with the press of a button. genesis scattered redstone dust all over the area, and blood soaked the clay earth of spawn once more. the remnants of a monstrous rib cage emerged from the earth, ivory spires. we perched there, like crows on power lines, or like vultures waiting for a wounded animal to die.
we decided to look intimidating, so we sourced a collection of salmon heads; some of which we wore, some of which we forced onto naked armor stands. we used the web's cursed book to twist them into unnatural shapes, impossible unknowable geometries, and set them to stand at each cardinal direction; guards to defend from the other.
outside of the server & during this time, I, genesis, did some research. the stranger's username had been owned by several other minecraft accounts previously, and was most active around 2014 in multiplayer competitive circles (ex. factions), and made a few forum posts here and there. the current account with the username - i.e. the stranger - had not had any past usernames, but there was no information on when the account had been created. a look at one of the other accounts with the username in its history suggested that the stranger's current account was created on or after early june 2019.
by 9:35 pm EST sphor had returned to learn what had happened and get in contact with support. notably, they added a whitelist, and that's where the story ends.
There are more mysteries than fact in this case. we dont know who they were, we dont know what they wanted. I'm inclined to believe them - I dont believe they lied, except perhaps for the strange comment they made about internet connection in "north america" (nobody from North America calls it that, in that way). to be honest, after the fact some of us were tempted to give that person our discord info, just to see what would have happened; however, I'm glad that never came to pass, because the safety of our servermates and friends is unfortunately more important than solving this mystery.
the stranger's username was redacted for their privacy; although we didnt get any contact info for them, I felt it best to be considerate. remember to like comment and subscribe and smash that bell for notifications every time I curse yall with another post
