A year ago today, I wrote my first story ever in my life and decided to SHARE it because I'm crazy lol.

I could say so many things I've said a million times before, but the only thing that matters is how amazing all of you are.

Also no I have not read this in about a year because I'm terrified LOL just be grateful for how much I've learned in a year :,)

Mended Fragments

Summary: After a night filled with nightmares about his past, Bucky is drowning in pain and shame. His friend Steve Rogers finds him sitting on the floor in a comatose state, and texts you to ask for you to come over and help Bucky fight the demons that are haunting him.

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader

A/N: This is my first piece of fic ever so please be kind. I have truly enjoyed reading the content of various fic writers and wanted to share some of my own. Feel free to provide constructive criticism, I just ask that you don’t totally tear this apart. And I hope you enjoy. :)

You get the text around midnight, right as you’re heading home from your shift at work.

He’s not doing well. Any chance you could stop by?

You still haven’t gotten used to the name “Steve Rogers” (aka, Captain America) popping up on your phone like this, but I guess that’s what comes with dating a member of the Avengers. You respond quickly saying you’ll be there in 15, and pick up your gate as you head to the subway.

Steve is there to meet you at the door when you arrive at Avengers HQ. He smiles when you approach, but behind that smile you see the worry on his face. This must be bad. He walks by your side as you head toward the elevator and fills you in.

“What happened?” you ask.

“I’m not sure what set him off,” Steve says, pressing the elevator button for the 18th floor. “He’s been like this all day. I checked in on him when he missed breakfast and found him where he is now. I tried to give him time but he won’t speak, he won’t move, and I’m getting really worried. You’re the only person I feel can get some sort of response from him.”

I know I've said it a lot, but it is genuinely so important to me that Essek could've been a textbook tragedy—only acting in his own nature, too stuck in his personal failings to change, a victim of the narrative sunk cost fallacy. It's important that due to the actions he's taken before the narrative and the society he lives in, he is doomed to failure and headed for a tragic, painful death or downfall.

Except that he does what is unfathomable to a tragic character—he changes! He looks at the path he's laid for himself and the fate looming over him, and he adapts. He changes his nature in key ways; he allows others outside of his own story to influence him.

In fact, this is only a course of action he can take because he is not the center of the story—that the central characters choose to offer him the perspective necessary to see it. (Hamlet cannot be swayed no matter anyone's pleading, because his perspective trumps all others.) And this actually lets Caleb avoid this cycle as well, as opposed to falling back into it in the eleventh hour—he offers the choice to Essek long before he properly takes it for himself, and when Essek parrots it back to him later, he can accept it because it originally came from him.

And it's also important that it is hard for Essek, in the end—his life is a constant process of illusion and fear and hiding—of becoming someone else. Not because he has to do some kind of penance, but because it is genuinely very difficult to change, to start over, and it is never a process that simply happens. You have to think about it everyday to maintain it, and it's gonna suck a lot of the time—but it's worth it, and you'll be better for it.

And it's also just so delightful that the character following this path is one who mechanically specializes in manipulating fate.

oh wait...one could combine both...where thomas is completely convinced by wicked's ways and follows through, but he grows more and more attached to all of his 'fake' friends and gets more and more uncertain until everything comes crashing down and newt dies and he swears he will make wicked pay for manipulating him into killing one of the most important people in his life

the nature of man is that occasionally they look at a character who is canonically the LEAST likely to turn evil and go "but....what if..."

Chaos greeted Ladybug as she stepped through Chat Noir's portal into the penthouse of Le Grand Paris. Webs of wires and cords ran from every power outlet in the apartment to monitors and computer equipment stacked on every table and chair. Monarch was in the middle of powering up a strange beeping device that had a disconcerting amount of red dots on the screen while Bluebird was watching Rena Rouge pace back and forth on the balcony, hand in her hair and talking a million miles an hour to someone Ladybug couldn't hear yet.

"Looks like the gang's all here," Ladybug chuckled, trying to break the tension as Chat Noir pushed their younger selves through the portal behind her.

"Not quite," Chat Noir muttered, eyes quickly sweeping the living room. "Where're Carapace and Queen Bee?"

"That's what we're trying to figure out," Bluebird said, glancing over his shoulder and doing a quick double take as he caught Ladybird's eye. "They ducked into the sewers to follow up on a lead a little while ago, but…they're taking longer than they should be."

"Any chance they got lost or something?"

"When Alya's calling I don't think either of them would take long answering," Monarch said, wincing as Ladybird's eyes widened. "Sorry…I forgot we were in mixed company; forget you heard that-"

"We know already," Cat Noir said with a dismissive wave of his hand.

" What ?!" Ladybird turned to her partner.

"Uh…I-I mean…I don't know…anything?" Chat Noir suggested

"When did you… how did you-"

"Sorry," Cat Noir said, averting his eyes. "I was going to tell you, but-"

"Why are you apologizing to her ?" Chat Noir huffed, rolling his eyes.

"I…I don't know," Chat Noir trailed off. "I just-"

" She's the one keeping secrets from you and you're sorry about it?"

"Sorry…I just needed to-"

"You just need to stop apologizing to things that aren't your fault," Chat Noir sighed. "It's annoying ."

Cat Noir's eyes narrowed dangerously as Chat Noir turned away. "We can talk later," Ladybird said with a weak smile. "Don't apologize…least of all to him ."

There are some stories that are beautiful in texture and some that are beautiful in structure.

If you dumb down some story to the most basic ‘Event A followed by Event B and then Event C’ structure, some good stories just fall into mush. They just become stories where a bunch of people talk, and then nothing happens. Or they can become meaningless geopolitics. A few opposing organizations make contradictory efforts to achieve contradictory goals, some people die, some people are fired. The Wire or Six Degrees of Separation fall apart when put in the Wikipedia Synopsis format. The merit of the work is in the intangible details, tone, voice.

Then there are some that work in the macro. Events that when juxtaposed create a sense of irony or fate that just feels nice! There have been times where I have actually read a Wikipedia article and been moved by the events depicted there in the most clinical of terms. There’s a reason there are myths passed down that people still love. You can tell a story in three sentences that can stick with people forever. Though if you don’t have the right micro scale detailing, it all falls flat. Supernatural the Fable should be a great myth. Two boys were conceived to embody the fight of good and evil, but their bond of brotherhood forces both Heaven and Hell to intervene. The one destined to be evil defeats the demon sent to seduce him, the one destined to be good seduces the angel sent to control him. The one destined to die lives while the one destined to live dies. There’s a pleasing symmetry in that. Supernatural the show though? Ugly. Horrendously bad. Cruel and embarrassing.

Part 14 Fic Recommendations!

I meant to post this yesterday, but was a bit busy reading more fic. Whoops! This one has a pretty even mix of angst and comedy. Most of these are smaller fics, but we have a viewtuber Danny AU series that is large included as well!

A GiW agent centuries in the future watches Danny's memories and learns about his life.

Post-vivisection. Danny returns to school after going missing.

What happens when a ghost hybrid begins to destabilize? Identity reveal, warnings for blood, gore, vomit, and melting.

Val and Elle go on a double date with Danny and Sam. It goes about as well as one would assume and memes are involved.

Daniel Fenton is not Danny's full name. Recommending it because I could 100% see this as being true and because it was funny.

Jazz and her college roommates play with an Ouija board.

Jack isn't as oblivious as people think.

Yessss, now this is the sort of chaotic stuff I am talking about! Danny accidentally posts one of his training videos publicly to viewtube, ends up doing parkour and dare videos, AND gets to meet some cool cryptids! One of the fics is even a slow burn reveal fic with an outsider PoV!

Danny has fangs and his parents draw some odd conclusions based off of them.
