i was inspired by many creators talking about this but here are some of my formal criticisms of l&ds because no matter how much i love this game and find it near-perfect, there are still flaws!

zayne's english voice lines. while it didn't bother me on the level that it did most in the past, i do think infold could do a great service of rerecording the interaction lines. they finally found the right footing for his tone and how to capture his character with the later affinity content and the recent events / main story chapter. please! i beg! (i'm already aware the localization isn't top tier but i feel this is a somewhat doable fix, though tedious.)

the timing of banners. in this economy? insane. also i'm gonna be real, i'm unemployed right now (it was an unfortunate circumstance) and my means of finding a proper job is honestly difficult with my full load of classes. it's hard being a f2p player especially when the rewards for grinding isn't as hefty as i'd like it to be. i think it's decent for what it is right now, but it could be better. also... they need to space this shit out. LMAO. i've played my fair share of gacha and otome games, yes, but with how fast-paced the updates for this game is, infold could at least offer some more in-game benefits or rewards. (ex. giving out free 10 pulls... if you're going to do a quad banner, i wouldn't mind 40 free pulls as i could just grind the rest during the duration of that event.)

increasing rewards for daily tasks/challenges/etc. because what am i gonna do with 30-50 gens per card upgrade, and so on and so forth. i also would like a new update to the abyssal chaos deductions. maybe upgrade the rewards cap since so many of us (i assume) have already maxed it out. unfortunately as a girlie who fucking loves hack and slash games, abyssal chaos is my favorite game mode and it doesn't stress me out. (a bitch is STRUGGLING with her protocore levels right now.)

infold's stance on lgbtq+ fan content. i already wrote a post here somewhat related to this. while i'm talking fans specifically, infold's stance is what i feel significantly influences the homophobic behavior. yes, we know it's an otome game. yes, we know what otome means. but i just call it what it is and i think the love interests are not confined to strict heterosexuality and the norms of it.

the characterization and treatment of the LIs. i'll be honest one of the huge turn offs for me for rafayel is the way the mc's responses are programmed towards him. while i don't mind banter in the way that it's done for zayne/sylus, i don't like how snarky it is on the player's end for rafayel. also, i know i'm a pervert on the main but i do think infold could chill a bit on the hypersexualization in certain instances (sylus). because there's no way you're gonna give me 50% and then not fulfill the rest. this is the worst kind of foreplay.

i've seen a few instances of people from cn explaining that there's setbacks due to cultural norms, etc. that would prevent something like a card with fully explicit sex being made. that's why there's only sexually implicit content. (if anyone could provide context on this or confirm, do add!) ((yes, i've seen the car sex card from mqlc... need that with zayne actually.))

every day i'm thankful for the misty invasions event, but i still have hope for more. i guess what i'm trying to say is that infold is already on a good run with making this game as to appeal to a more mature audience, yet... THERE COULD BE MORE. idk.

twst 30 day challenge: day 30

what's your hottest twst take?

final one! so i've got two hot takes, and the first one is this: i'm completely fine with twst not having any romance or not being more "otome-like" (...than it may already be on some level lmao well yuu is genderless, but still). i'm perfectly content with yuu being everyone's therapist friend, or just enjoy characters' dynamics with each other as they are or as they could be.

and second hot take is...

i guess when it comes to the "frying pan sizzling" hot take, talking about my take on kalim and jamil dynamic. but first of all, to be completely frank, i don't think it's fair to just coin them as "master and servant" and be done with it. i mean, yes, they are that, but that statement also needs an asterisk, especially looking through events of books 5, 6 and events (like beanfest).

to put it simply, their relationship is an absolute mess and ten, maybe twenty, can of worms with an ocean of emotional baggage and a sea of trauma.

kalim and jamil are very much like master and servant within the realm of book 4; this is explicitly stated in the japanese version. and if you told me book 4 was the end of the main story period, their relationship probably wouldn't have been as messy. but at the same time even within book 4, we see kalim clumsily trying to make jamil happy as a friend, finding ways to reduce his workload. he clearly very deeply cares for jamil.

that, and... he's also kind of overly dependent on jamil. like, to a concerning degree, almost. but this may partly be because of jamil and his efforts to protect kalim, effectively making it so kalim can't do a lot of things on his own. so, like, jamil's motivations, while they are valid, had shaped a lot of kalim's character to the way he is. and this can be said conversely, too. kalim had dragged jamil along to many of his whims, but i believe it's been shown that jamil had gained an interest in dancing and parrots from none other than kalim. who knows if he would have gained an interest otherwise; he probably wouldn't have found much free time to delve into it himself.

and also, another thing is that jamil held himself back so kalim could appear to be above him. then we see in book 5 that he has never experienced the frustration before. like, whether he deserved it or not, he has always been given the top place because jamil placed himself lower than kalim. so overall, i think it's important kalim has a chance to feel that frustration, which is also proof that jamil no longer holds himself back. that is a big and needed step up from book 4.

and to top it off, bro even uses kalim shamelessly to his advantage in the beanfest event, and in book 6, we see that he (1) says something along the lines of "i never thought i'd be relieved to see your face" and (2) has kalim help him with stuff, which was like unheard of before. like, i know this seems small, and jamil just gave him one task, but that's still a huge step!

at the end of the day, when they all graduate, their dynamic may revert back to the way it was before as if their time at school never existed. since they are on school grounds, a lot of things can escape the eyes of both families, and so jamil and kalim are able to treat each other more as equals. fundamentally speaking, it would not be wrong to say they are master and servant. however, i think even though he probably wants to hate kalim and still holds some annoyance that he has to cover so many bases, jamil still holds some level of affection?? toward him. it's just... a lot more subtle. jamil likely understands that it's not really kalim's fault that jamil is in the situation he is in and that kalim wants to help jamil. but he also knows the problem is so deep-rooted that kalim wouldn't be able to solve it himself in any short amount of time, unfortunately. ☁️

AU-gust in September #14: Princes & Princesses (Romance The Backrooms)

So, here’s the deal.  I couldn’t participate in my beloved AU-gust event last month, because I was busy.  So I thought, fuck it, I’ll just participate this month instead, because we as humans can do whatever we want, and screw the rules lmao!  And that’s what I’m doing.

The event is “supposed” to be for fanfiction, but I want to write AUs for my game Romance The Backrooms, a liminal space otome with 5 main love interests, so I’m gonna do that instead.  Like I said, screw the rules! X)

Since September has only 30 days, I’ll treat Day 31’s prompt as a Joker (aka a prompt I can switch out if I don’t like the day’s chosen prompt).

Adiel groaned, feeling groggy.  His head hurt, and he felt sick. . . There was  something over his eyes, too. . . And his limbs were tied to a chair!  What the heck?!

“Oh good, you’re finally awake, Prince Adiel.”

Upon hearing that voice, Adiel felt a chill run down his spine.  It was the prince of the enemy country, Glarence.  Adiel thought that the two of them were getting close, but the last time they had spoken, they had not left on good terms. . .

“What’s going on here, Glarence?” Adiel asked, trying to remain calm.  “This isn’t funny, you know!”

“Oh, trust me, I’m not laughing,” Glarence snapped.  “I’ve been waiting a long time for this.”

The blindfold was removed, and Adiel blinked a few times, adjusting as he left the darkness.  He was in some sort of large warehouse, clearly abandoned, and the only  other person here was his fellow prince.

“Why did you bring me here, huh?” Adiel asked, fighting against the ropes tying down his arms & legs.

Glarence chuckled.  “Because someone needs to put the enemy in their place.  And that someone is going to be me.”

And then, Glarence began to change.  Before Adiel’s eyes, the enemy prince transformed into a large, furry beast—a werewolf, towering over Adiel and baring its fangs.

You changed my life, not for the better,” Glarence growled.  “Now I get to return the favor!"

“I know you don’t want to kill me!” Adiel shouted.  “Just because we’re supposed to be enemies doesn’t mean we have to be!”

“Shut up!” Glarence shouted.  “I won’t let you confuse me!  It’s time for you to die!”

“I won’t let you kill me!” Adiel screamed, tears running down his face.

Glarence smirked.  “Is that a challenge?  Hmm?”

Adiel shook his head.  “I can’t die now,” he sobbed, turning away.  “Not before I say it. . .”

“Say what?”  Glarence chuckled, clearly amused.  He reached over and tilted Adiel’s chin upwards, so that the two were looking into each other’s eyes.  “Go on, Prince Adiel.  I’ll let you have some last words.”

Adiel stared at the werewolf, and bit his lip.  Fuck, he never thought he’d say it like this. . .

“Well?!” Glarence growled.  “Spit it out!”

“Ok!” Adiel replied.  He took a deep breath, looked into Glarence’s eyes, and blurted out, “I don’t want to die before you know that I’ve fallen in love with you!”

Glarence clearly hadn’t been expecting that, and his eyes went wide with surprise.  Then, he shook his head.  “No, you’re lying,” he snapped.  “You’re just saying that so I don’t kill you!”

“Look into my eyes, Glarence!” Adiel begged.  “You’ll see that I’m telling the truth.

Glarence let out a grumble, but did as Adiel instructed.  The two stared at each other, and Glarence’s gaze softened.

“So, the enemy is in love with me,” Glarence murmured with a chuckle.  “How romantic is that?”

His beastly form shrunk, and a few moments later, Glarence was back in his human form.

“To tell you the truth, Adiel,” Glarence admitted, turning away, “I’ve also . . . caught some feelings for you.”

Adiel’s eyes widened.  “Really?!”

Glarence nodded.  “I didn’t want to admit it, because we’re enemies.  It wouldn’t work.  But . . . I don’t want to lie to you.”  He folded his arms.  “And now you’ve made me say it. . .”

“We don’t have to be enemies, Glarence,” Adiel urged his fellow prince.  “The two of us, we could bring our nations together as allies!”

Glarence shook his head.  “That’s just your optimism talking,” he snapped.  “Practically, it wouldn’t work.”

“But it would, though!” Adiel insisted.  “The two of us, we could change things!  I know we can, Glarence!”

Glarence looked into his eyes, and there was a long pause.  Then, Glarence sighed, and walked over, untying Adiel’s restraints.  “Maybe you’re right,” he said.  “Then again, you could be completely wrong. . . But I want to believe that you and I, we could be together.  And our nations could be at peace.”

Once Adiel was free, he stood up.  Then, he threw his arms around Glarence.  “Thank you,” he said.

Glarence was stiff for a moment, and then, he awkwardly hugged Adiel back.  “You’re welcome,” he replied.

The two of them let go of each other.  Glarence walked away, and gestured for Adiel to follow.  “Come on,” he said.  “I’ll take you home.”

“On the way, let’s strategize,” Adiel suggested, going to Glarence’s side.  “Once we get there, we can talk to my father, pitch him our plan to bring our nations together.”

“Good idea,” Glarence agreed.  “Let’s do it.”

“Oh, and one more thing,” Adiel said.  He stopped walking.

“What?” Glarence asked, stopping to and turning towards him.

Adiel simply smiled, leaned forward, and planted a gentle kiss on Glarence’s lips.  When he leaned away, he saw that Glarence was blushing profusely.  “I’ve been wanting to do that for ages,” Adiel said with a smile.

Glarence nodded, turning away.  “I’m glad you did,” he admitted.

Adiel took the other prince’s hand.  “Come on.  Let’s do this thing.”

And so, the two exited the warehouse.

30 Days Wild!

As usual, I’ve been neglecting Tumblr (and basically everything in my life that is not related to Otome/Josei Jam right now x3) soooo, it’s double post time!

This is just a quick one to say that I’m doing #30DaysWild again this year to try and raise some money for my local Wildlife Trust charities, so if anyone is interested in finding out more or wants to donate, you can read more about it over on ko-fi :3

Sadly, I don’t have time to make any new thank-you stuff for fundraiser supporters this year cos I’m so busy with the jam, but the old wallpaper and music tracks will be available again to anyone who chips in!

I also keep forgetting to actually take photos of the nature-related stuff I’ve been doing/seeing each day as part of the 30DaysWild challenge, haha. I’ve mostly just been looking after my dad’s garden and all the lil plants I put in there at the start of spring to help the pollinators, but we did manage to go on a walk at a local nature reserve at the weekend :3 Saw some really cool creatures & pretty plants, so there’s that :D

30 Day Otome Challenge ~Day 15~

15. What are your top three favorite otome games? Why?

That's such a tough question! But I guess I'll go with:

Mystic Messenger. This game has broken my heart. Eleven days with each character, you can call them, chat with them, feel like you're part of their group. It starts like smth good and funny and then the game crashes your soul with angst. I love it

Dandelion. Maybe bc it was my 1st game with stats. I remember how I forgot about all the human needs and was just playing hard till I finish. I was in tears, but I still like it

Lost Alice. Firstly, Iris is my fav MC, she's just perfect. Secondly, the bachelors treat her well and just respect her and help her and genuinely love her.

15.What are your top three favorite otome games? Why?

In no particular order:

One has to be Amnesia, since playing it was a turning point in my life regarding otomes and husbandos. I don't remember buying it, just that one day I checked my Steam library and it was there, and I think I had started Kent's route. It was summer, so I didn't have class, and I binge played it until I completed all the routes and got all the endings. I was so obsessed that the day after finishing it I went to Buyee looking for plushies and got my Ukyo and Cafe Shin plushies! And I don't think I have to explain how much I love Ukyo...

Hakuoki must be on the list too, since thanks to it I've made wonderful friends and it got me into myus again (and I can watch these myus with my friends and be happy). It's been like a year and a month since fate made me buy it on sale just before going to Ferasha's panel about the Shinsengumi (which featured Hakuoki), and though it took me a long time (5 or 6 months) to finish Kyoto Winds, it triggered another hyperfixation that had me looking at Hakuoki memes on Tumblr for hours. And in case someone doesn't know, back in the day I had a friend who was as obsessed with Kuroshitsuji and Kuromyu as much as I was, so we spent hours and hours (of class) writing a fic (Shinigami DEATH), countless breaks singing Kuromyu and such... Life and things happened and we haven't been friends for years, so while I still love Kuromyu I don't have someone to share it with. Discovering Hakumyu made me insanely happy because, apart from the fact that it's full of great songs and has an amazing cast, it reminded me of my love for Kuromyu and those times with my friend. The cherry on top was joining Haku Hell, where I've met the sweetest people who share my love for both the game and the myus.

And for the third one I'm debating myself between Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 1 and Mystic Messenger, but I think MysMe is going to take the spot. I distinctly remember the day I learnt about its existence and the day I started playing, and it really helped me get through uni. Also, I cosplayed Mary Vanderwood the 3rd (the maid) and have good memories of that cosplay, I felt comfortable and confident wearing it (I should get it shipped to my new apartment so I can wear it to Aniventure next year...)

Day 1: What is the first otome game you ever played? Who is the first character you went for and how did you react?

A: The first one I ever played was 'Monsters First Love'

I went for the werewolf dude, although I don't really remember his name lol. I chose him purely because he had fluffy looking ears.

I was kinda surprised by how much I actually liked it, and boom, addicted lol
