When Midoriya reached out to Bakugou in that creek it was a sign of his future greatness, a glimmer of his incredible capacity to save—it was the same as when Bakugou won a fight with two older kids, revealing his own capacity to win. Midoriya didn’t flub his save in the creek—it was such a profound act that it unnerved Bakugou for the next decade.

And yet, Bakugou didn’t take his hand.

Saving isn’t the same as winning. Winning is something you can just do if you’re strong enough. Saving is about convincing, it requires a response from the other person. Even if it’s done perfectly, it can be rejected.

Like a lot of people, I assumed that the League of Villains would be saved. But when Shigaraki turned down Midoriya’s offer in the dreamscape, all I could think of was how incredibly in character that move was for him. And the more I thought about it, the more I liked this turn of the story. The destruction of the League of Villains doesn’t mean that some people aren’t worth saving. It means that even people who will refuse salvation should receive the offer of it—that it’s worth it to reach out even when you know you’ll be rejected.

After all, if Midoriya had tried to kill Shigaraki, he would have lost the fight. Shigaraki would have stolen his quirk and killed him, and then as soon as Shigaraki had One for All, All for One would have deleted his consciousness. But because Midoriya tried to save Shigaraki—even though Shigaraki didn’t listen—Midoriya was able to save himself.

So, the ninja weren't time-displaced, what we saw them doing when they first appear in Dragons Rising is what they've been doing for years. Did Lloyd just never leave the monastery at all? Is there a farm in the back or..?
