Day 25:  🧣 Holiday Alone Time + a few others

for @mael-bloggy, a sweet coda for our 3 Roses boys

Daniel took a sip of his coffee, enjoying the warmth from the usually bitter liquid. It was perfect as usual, Lewis knew how he loved it. He rested the cup on the mantle and continued looking out into the garden that was already covered in a thick sheet of white, with more snow fluttering gently but steadily onto the ground. 

It was peaceful. Beautiful.

A pair of arms circled his shoulders and he smiled when Lewis’ chin hooked over his traps. Daniel leaned into his touch and Lewis kissed his neck. 

They were in Colorado, opting at the last minute to spend Christmas together in the mountains rather than in LA with both of their families.

Considering the last four months, no one objected to the change of plans. Grace had told them to relax and enjoy the time together before kicking them out of the Christmas planning group chat. 

Daniel had spent the first day or so on the couch with his legs in Lewis' lap purging his social media of posts he didn't feel represented his life anymore. They'd been attached at the hip since Lewis came back from his farewell tour. Daniel had made a valiant attempt to not feel salty that he hadn't been allowed the same. 

After that, they'd gone grocery shopping. There was nothing in the house except a few random canned bits from the last time Lewis had guests. The lady in the produce section said they'd come at the right time, a lull in the steady stream of shoppers preparing for their holiday family feasts.

They'd taken it as a good sign and made quick work of the list they'd barely remembered to make. Daniel appreciated the domesticity of it all. They'd been more or less long distance since October, something neither of them were prepared for, and being able to do something mundane like grocery shopping felt like a gift and a blessing.

They'd spent the post Singapore break together in Perth as had been the original– pre-shitshow– plan, taking turns being livid and raging at how it all went down. Then Lewis had to leave to go back to England. Daniel had gone with him, and veered to New York where he'd spent his time when he wasn't in LA.

Long distance had been… rough. But they figured it out and made it through. Daniel resented not being able to be there with Lewis for all of his Mercedes lasts. Not being able to comfort his boyfriend when realizations of one more thing he wouldn't experience again hit him in the dead of night. Sure, he was a phone call, text or FaceTime away, but technology couldn't provide physical comfort how they'd needed it.

“It's beautiful.” Lewis murmured, lips brushing Daniel's skin.

“Yeah.” Daniel whispered back. He took one last long look at the snow before turning in Lewis' arms and settled himself in his boyfriend's hold. He rested his head on Lewis' shoulder, pressing his face into his neck. He always joked that he could feel the fluttering of the wings of his tattoo.

“Thanks for suggesting this.” Daniel loved him, he really did. Lewis had been the one to suggest changing their plans, and then further suggested they take the time to do the silly and corny traditions. Their pj's matched with Roscoe while they'd made hot cocoa and sipped it while cuddled under a blanket fort. And they'd already watched at least three holiday movies already. Later today, in the afternoon maybe, they would be calling their mom's to wish their families a merry Christmas and to learn what chaos all the kids got up to. 

Daniel's heart was full.

“Merry Christmas my love.” Daniel could hear the smile on Lewis’ lips.

“You know… I thought you were gonna propose.” Daniel said with a small laugh. He wouldn't say he noticed anything out of the ordinary, any suspicious behaviours. But he also knew his boyfriend was incredibly sappy and sweet– and Daniel was oblivious sometimes.

“There's still time.” Lewis said offhandedly, kissing Daniel's cheek and taking up his empty coffee cup to bring to the kitchen. Daniel stood there frozen, watching him.

“Wait–what? Lew??” Daniel stumbled after him, befuddled. Lewis giggled but said nothing. “You can't just– Lew!” Daniel complained with a pout.

They truly can't hold themselves back from each other.

God I love them so much. I know Lewis is flopped on top of Daniel right now while they ignore their phones. Maybe they're in onesies again, Daniel chose the bear this time and Lewis the unicorn.

Lewis is keeping him distracted and busy so they don't pay attention online after the scheduled posts
